Jade! This is a great video showing how you NEED to try the bag in store before buying.

Thank you. I carefully weighed both, the Osprey and Gregory. I also chose the grey Gregory and so far I like it. Yes, the customer service at REI is amazing, as is the support of the staff when trying them on and helping me find the best one for me. I’m with you - not being a minimalist. So let me know how that works :)! I’m doing the Camino Frances de Santiago September 2021. I love the idea of naming my backpack. I’ve decided on “Moksha” which means liberation of consciousness, freedom. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

@@revmalika first of all Malika that is an amazing name with so much meaning!! I love that you chose the same sort of bag as me - I'm sure my Greg and your Moksha would be friends lol. That sounds like a really exciting trip you are planning on and right around when I'll be taking my trip. Let's both hope that 2021 proves a great travel year!

This ended up being the most helpful video! I will be dragging hubby to get fitted properly. I too had my eye on that Osprey at one point. A Jade 28 is on the way for me.

The two bags are for different purposes... as you've observed, the Osprey Fairview opens like a suitcase and is meant for urban travel where you're pretty much carrying it from airport to public transit to your hostel or hotel, whereas the Gregory Jade is a hiking / backpacking pack, so it's designed to be comfortable for carrying long distances. So - makes sense to consider how long you'll be wearing it when you choose it!

I used a Gregory Zulu 35 (the male version of Jade) as my only pack for a one month traveling in Europe, so i definitely know how it feels like when you try the Jade. Jade and Zulu are the top professional hiking backpacks, they have all the things that you need when going on a hiking. They reduce the feeling of weights. However, they don't really have good space designs for travel stuffs. But Fairview is designed more for traveling. Especially for flights or long way trips on which you can check it easily and use it as a "suitcase" on your shoulder. So on this point they are not the same kind of backpacks.

How did the bag end up working out? Did you keep it, return it and get something different? Are you satisfied that you didn’t get the Osprey? I’ve been leaning toward the Osprey but….

I have loved my bag. I loke the multiple opening options to get to the middle and the frame makes it comfortable to carry even when I overpack it. I just used it for 3 months and it was great!
