I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the man thinking that you didn’t have money for the trip to Puli and decided to drive both of you there ,Usually, in a city, it's hard to get a hitchhike, but if you’re in an area with no public transportation, Taiwanese people are very likely to help you . Even I have hitchhiked twice when I was in the mountains , BTW , Welcome to Taiwan ! :-)
The people in Taiwan are very friendly, the food is delicious and the scenery is beautiful. I hope you can share the beauty of Taiwan with your good friends when you return home.
Omg you got the best and authentic hitchhiking, that little pickup is iconic vehicle ride- Puli to Sun Moon Lake 😊 Heart warming grandpa was the best of course ❤
Accidentally spotted your videos on UA-cam, and they’re amazing! I love your storytelling, post edits, and the way you interact with people. I'm from Taiwan, and it makes me so happy to see all these beautiful scenes. I hope you enjoy your trip in Taiwan and all your adventures around the world!
I have been watching your videos for the past few months and deeply appreciate how you tell your stories. Your editing, music, your perspectives, attitude towards things. Just such a treat to have you show up in my life every few weeks. Wishing you continued growth on your platform as you most certainly deserve it. Sending love from the West Coast of Canada.
Wow~The Sun-Moon lake looks so beautiful and peaceful through your lens. Most of Taiwanese are willing to help others but we don't have confidence about our English and will be hesitate to come to you. Once people decide to come to you , means they will try hard to help you regardless the language barrier . Finally you met friendly people and friendly dog. : ) Welcome to Taiwan ! Enjoy~❤❤❤
It's really beautiful here in Taiwan, the view is really stunning. Thanks a lot for making this video to let more people know Taiwan! My lovely home country!
Flora, thank you so much for making the video of Taiwan!!!!! And there are so many Taiwanese here at the comment section. Can't wait for your other videos. :))))
When I was still living in Taiwan, I used to go paddling on Sun Moon Lake a few times a year. It’s especially breathtaking in the morning slightly before sunrise, with the mist veiling over the lake. As the sun slowly rises from behind the mountains, warm light seeps through the mist and you just find yourself gently stroking the water with the paddle so the ethereality remains undisturbed. There are also hidden coves to be discovered if you explore the lake in a kayak.
You're right. People in Taiwan(especially city) are unfamiliar with hitchhiking because of the convenient transportation. Taichung does have the best weather in Taiwan , Tainan and Kaohsiung are too hot in summer and Taipei are too cold and rainy for me. Amazing video by the way~ It gives relaxing vibe.
Taiwanese people often help until you reach your destination, as they rarely leave you midway. Since many feel shy speaking English, it’s easier to show a note with the destination in Chinese and use gestures.
hey~flora There is a saying in Taiwan: "Those who come are guests." If you are not treated well and do not eat well as a guest in Taiwan, then the Taiwanese people will feel sorry for the visiting guests. Accept the goodwill bombardment from the Taiwanese people! 🎉🎉🎉🎉💥💥💥
I guess Taiwanese might not know this gesture for hitchhiking - it takes to much time so people usually won't do that. They might think that you are looking for a taxi. To show a card with your destination might be easier. 9:50 借花獻佛😁
As a Taiwanese, I hitchhiked around my country a few years ago. Yes, I already know people are kind and friendly, but I was still shocked by how everyone tried to give me a lot of food when I was walking. I ALREADY KNOW! But I am still surprised by that😂😂
Sending warm greetings from Taipei. Welcome and hope you enjoy every moment in your trip in this lovely island. Taiwanese are just so hospital and always willing to help you out there. Many people are not that familiar with hitchhiking and have no idea what that gesture means when passing by someone doing so on the streets. But I think if you reach out to most of the residents here with smile, and you could just let the magic happen. Usually things turned out unexpectedly pleasant! What goes around comes around. Thanks for your love for Taiwan and your insightful introduction. Hope everything goes very smoothly for your visit here. :)
Hi Flora, Since your video suddenly appeared on my page and I subscribed to your channel, you’ve become the only UA-camr whose uploads I always look forward to! I just wanted to say how much I admire your incredible journey around the world. Your courage, determination, and adventurous spirit are truly inspiring! Watching your videos feels like I’m traveling right alongside you. For instance, your Pakistan series really caught my attention. As an Indonesian, I’m now curious to visit Pakistan one day. The way you share different cultures, landscapes, and stories is amazing. Thank you for showing us that the world is meant to be explored and that anything is possible with passion. Wishing you safe travels and many more unforgettable adventures ahead! ❤
@@floragonning I’m happy to hear that! You deserve it. I wanted to suggest adding Indonesia to your travel list if you haven’t already-it seems like a perfect match for your adventurous spirit! Indonesia offers such a mix of experiences: winding coastal roads, lush jungle trails, and even volcanic landscapes. Plus, the local culture and food are incredible-you’d capture some amazing content there. ❤️
@@floragonning Wow, I’m glad I can read your mind! Welcome to Indonesia-we’re thrilled to have you here. Most Dutch ladies are stunning, and you’re no exception. ❤
I am gonna tell you guys , the eastern side of Taiwan is amazing , you got to see things over there the coastline, the half side green and half side of blue, both without limit in your eyes!!! :D You can also rent a motorbike near the train station (with your a valid IDP international driving permit) , and enjoy the wind between the mountains and the Pacific ocean :D~~~
As you mentioned at the beginning of the video, Taiwan public transport almost covers all of the islands with very cheap fee, local people may not understand why you want to hitchhiking.
That was a tough test! You listed the facts about hitch-hiking in Taiwan but I would add that foreigners living in or just visiting Taiwan rarely try to hitch hike. So I guess most drivers who did not stop for you just felt puzzled when their car was moving past you and didn't bother to double back to ask what you needed. I would not be surprised if some did turn back, though.
The culture is different, in Taiwan we don't ever do hitchhiking, it's a bit weird😂😂 if you put a thumbs up, most people don't understand what are you doing, but you're obviously foreigners so I believe people will still help you:)
There is no hitchhiking culture in Taiwan so people wouldn’t understand both of you standing on the roadside thumbs up. You need a board indicating that you need a ride
About 15 years ago, China allowed a large number of its citizens to travel to Taiwan, and Sun Moon Lake became a must-visit destination for them. Back then, the excessive commercialization for tourism caused some issues. Fortunately, in 2019, China unilaterally halted its travel channels to Taiwan, allowing Sun Moon Lake to gradually return to normal.
What is the idea behind hitchhiking rather than use the transport, the west coast of Taiwan is the best connected for transport in Taiwan with the high speed rail and such. I am not criticising, generally curious.
11:40 wild boar sausages is really good, it’s a shame you skipped it (unless you can’t have pork). If you’d see mountain boar (or wild boar) or high mountain xxxx, that means good flavour and quality!
my advice is to find a convient store (or police station ) and to ask a clek to help u write down the place in Chnese. it will be better for most taiwaneses to understand ur intention for hitchhiking
In attractions of Taiwan, there are many cute dogs like him. They are never adopted by anyone, but they like to walk with travelers, like local guides😂
I think it is better to ask the local people to helping you to write signs and explain the direction you are going when you are hitch hiking in Taiwan.
*Does anyone know about any country in the World where locals are not only welcoming, friendly, kind, hospitable, but also touchy and love touching foreigners out of affection while they are talking to foreign tourists?*

Hitchhiking in Taiwan is generally easier in rural or suburban areas and more challenging in urban cities.
Yeah, in our experience that is very true!
Enjoy Taiwan, love foods

It’s actually super easy to do hitchhike in Taiwan. I myself as a local did that once too 🤣

1:20 infamous Sun Moon Lake? I've never heard anyone describe it that way. It may not be the best, but it is definitely not 'infamous' LoL.
I think for them "infamous" as being too popular and TOO touristic and crowded. My family also try hard to avoid touristic and crowded places.
