  • CALKE ABBEY HOUSE TOUR | National Trust | English Stately Home | Walk Through to Music |
    Come for a walk with us through this beautiful house where time just stopped! Protected by the National Trust if you love stately homes or large estate houses grab a cuppa and kick back to watch our walk through.
    Due to covid restrictions the top floor wasn't open, but there is still lots to see and learn about the house.
    If you would like to support us as we don't make any money from YT then you can buy us a cuppa here:

      Hi Maria, I agree, it's lovely isn't it? There's something very special about how it just stands still and quiet! Have you seen our latest Christmas walk-through around the house, church and gardens. That was lovely, but very busy! I am hoping to get back and video it all again soon as an update! C xx

      Me too! It's my closest NT so lovely for a walk around! This was videoed during covid restrictions so it was a different walk through to the usual one.
      We did the gardens recently which I am adding soon! There's so much to see there! Thank you for your comment xx

      Hi Frances, I agree with you about housekeeping, it must have taken some work by the staff! I am not sure I would have wanted to have been in service there! Even making up the fires every morning would have taken such a long time as there's so many and so far apart! My next video up soon is about the gardens and the outbuildings at Calke as we have been back again!

    Just imagine how lively the house and out buildings would have been in its heyday! You were very brave. Nothing could have induced me to walk through that pitch black cavernous passage.😄

      Have you seen my extra video on walking the tunnels at Hallowe'en? In 2021 they really dressed it up and has spooky sounds playing! We went back and recorded our walk through! It was really good fun! Although I have to admit as a servant having to walk it during rain, or winter in the cold to leave the house it must have been scary!

    Amazing - these people had so much STUFF! I've never heard the phrase 'manure midden' - in the glory days of this home, wouldn't manure have been a valued commodity to spread on the fields and crops?

    • @CalliesDiaries
      @CalliesDiaries  Рік тому

      I agree, there was huge amounts of stuff, and even more hidden away in rooms we couldn't see at the time. We visited during Covid restrictions so only got to see certain rooms, the top floor has opened now and there's more cases of stuff! The house is closed now, but I have a video coming of the gardens and outbuildings.
      Yes, manure would have been a valued commodity and spread on the fields, that's an interesting phrase for it, which is a Yorkshire phrase for 'a pile of poop' I wonder if someone just didn't like it!! xxx

    I find the servants area and the stables of far more interest than the main house.

    • @CalliesDiaries
      @CalliesDiaries  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, I can understand that.....it's much more interesting to see the working off a house, the servants tunnel fascinated me. I spoke to one of the guides and they said this was the only way in and out for staff, food, deliveries etc. Must have been scary during a rain storm or snow!
      I have a new video coming soon on the gardens and outside sheds etc. that might interest you. If you are a subscriber, hit the bell as well and you'll be notified once it's up! Thanks again for your comment, always great to chat about these places.

    Very disappointing, the place is a mess. I shall never set a foot in such a place considering there are dozens of beautiful places in impeccable condition worth visiting.
