The loot boxes never bothered me, the game practically threw free loot boxes at me like they were going out of fashion. I never understood why so many people were malding over loot boxes, and now look where we are because people moaned about them. In order to sustain itself without loot boxes, it had to become f2p and therefore like every other f2p game it had to be competitive to work as live service so they made it more deathmatchy like every other generic shooter out now because that is what the f2p masses play (games like valorant, cod warzone, fortnite). Ironically loot boxes were the only thing holding overwatch 1 together.
After years of being hail as TF2 killer, TF2 did nothing but watch all of this burning down. God I love the community so much where every toxic shit that has been done counts as wholesome in TF2

@@niggachu420idk how much I should believe this when on steam charts at the time of this comment they only have 18k players, if it really had that many players I'm sure it'd be sitting around 500k at the very least and the rest coming from other platforms, then again from what I've heard the other platforms aren't doing so hot either, which is why people complain about getting matches with the same people from previous matches and the reason for the introduction of 5v5, to lower queue times. My wild guess is that OW2 is around 70k-100k players daily, and that's having a lot of faith in the other platforms it is available on.
I grinned like a madman when the TF2 music kicked in. That's probably one of, if not THE, most instantly recognizable and iconic jingles in all of gaming
I recently booted up TF2 and the main screen [the sepia tone upward one] gave me super nostalgia. So then I went back and looked up old tf2 mainscreens and nearly had a heart attack. We had it so good.
But too bad Tf2 is unplayable and full of bots, I don't understand why gamers tell me to play Tf2 when its as broken and lifeless as Overwatch 2! I hate the false praise a decade year old game gives and that it feels like a fake way to talk about
As a TF2 player, I feel like for some reason I've always harbored some sort of subconscious angry resentment towards Overwatch, and I only realized this when I noticed how elated I was when I noticed how far Blizzard has been falling as of late... I think that's kinda messed up to be resentful of a game that I don't even play.
To be fair, Overwatch during it's peak was called the "TF2 killer". It's like the many Minecraft fans hating on Hytale, a game that hasn't even released, for already being called the "Minecraft killer". Don't worry man, your feelings are plenty justified.
I know the feeling. Except instead of harboring any significant resentment of the game and its community, I've just been sardonically laughing at the whole thing and making fun of the players who just lost a game they loved. Yeah, I'm not too particularly nice of a person. Been trying to taper off that edge of mine so I stop sounding like a complete jackass.
Removing 6v6 was one of the worst decisions they could’ve made. Just from a psychological POV, they cut 1/6th of every game for people that played Overwatch 1 without adding anything to make up for it. If you know about Paladins (also a 5v5 game) they *launched* with that game as 5v5. Whereas since OW2 is just OW1 reskinned, Blizz cut 1/6th of the gameplay loop of a game that was built for 6v6 without any real thought besides “tank meta bad”…
It made me so freaking sad to see one of my favorite games destroyed by a money factory, the developers & artists must have felt so much anxiety because of that
Overwatch 2 also killed events. The events of OW1 were always a great time. Completing challenges to get a single skin, some random trash like a charm and the rest of the event skins being $20 a piece...completely took the joy out of seeing a trailer for a new halloween event for example. Seeing what new skins in the trailer you’d be able to grind for during the event was so exciting and actually felt like an event. I doubt we will ever see Overwatch have features like that again, but I really hope I’m wrong. 😔
Doesn’t help that the events were fucking garbage now. The new halloween with the “jumpscare warning” was a complete joke. Volleyball was gay, and the star wars parody was beyond sub par.
As a team fortress 2 fan, all i feel is pity when looking at overwatch. It used to be this sort of rivalry between fanbases, "aha our game is better than yours" type shit, but now it's as if i was kicking a puppy stuck in a bear trap. It's sad.
Man, I remember playing OW1 with my older brother. He bought me the pre ordered version and got to play a bit pre release on his account before he got me mine. We grinded a bunch of ranked together. I miss the arg stuff with ana and sombra too. Good times. I dont like how ow2 adds the new characters though so im not playing it.
Valve: you know what, let's make a sequel for one of our online game and leave it without any new updates for a while (the community still loved it) Activision/Blizzard: you know what, let's make a sequel for one of our online game and shutting down the first game forever (absolutely hated)
For those wondering, all the skins you could earn for free in the first game are now being sold at ridiculous prices in the second game which is also littered with microtransactions a battle pass.
Let's add a little more fuel to the fire: If you start out with a blank account in overwatch 2, you need to grind your player level up to access roughly half of all characters in the roster. Not even including the new ones locked behind battle passes
this whole thing is so bizzare to me. overwatch was the new cool shiny thing that 5 years ago was supposed to be the "TF2 killer" because it was very interesting, but now it really just feels like Tf2 players just feel sorry for overwatch players i know games can die quick but the turnaround in even a few years from being beloved (if a bit complicated for new players) to the trashfire that is actively being abandoned is just shocking. its just bizzare to me to see it. it really makes me humble myself as a tf2 player. valve may not update us much but they also don't change things that are working to make them worse, and don't promise things they can't deliver on. I'd rather be ignored than completely obliterated like whatever happened to overwatch 2
I don’t see how TF2 players are sorry for OW players tho. From what I have seen so far, a majority of them are just straight up douchebags that had been hoping the game to die since its release just to taunt on the OW players or to take the moment to shit on OW while overly praising TF2 just to make themselves feel better… Apparently they still hold some kind of grudge after 7 years. I have played both games and I would say they both have their charms and flaws. One should never compare the two games or try to figure out which one is better. But somehow a lot of the TF2 players just like doing that…? Of course I am very glad that there are still players that are wise just like you
@@Phoenix-fw7bmthey're both class based fps, what is there not to compare? Of course people are gonna do that when overwatch was flaunted so hard as something that could be compared to TF2.
I think it was years of pent up frustration without any meaningful place to talk about it, for example in overwatch 1 they kept rehashing the same seasonal content and having a dumb focus on eatsports and cosmetics. You pointed the thing: in OW1, we played cause we could feel some progression in the game ( like getting free lootboxes each level ). But the battlepass system is trash, and it’s worse than other battlepass games cause Blizzard had the good idea to lock the new heroes !!!
Matchmaking is unbelievably bad and buffing tanks was a mistake. 6v6 was better all around, especially how it affects the hero balancing for deathmatch.
Ive played overwatch for less than an hour. Even with the lack of major updates and more bots infesting the servers than everywhere else, TF2 is still more popular than OW2. That’s an impressive feat on my ad.
Just came back in August 2024 to give an update on it. 1: Still just OW1, as in they are even thinking about putting 6v6 back in 😂 2: Even worse monetization 3: That's it, good day
the steady shift from team based abilities and cooperation being the big impact, to haveing individual actions being the most impactful things, seriously hurt the games core player base (those that kept playing over the years) This was my final straw. I loved the maintank role. Its focus on teamplay and being the center of each group fight, really made the game into something i loved. Then they removed Maintank and offtank and tried to make each tank able to do what you normaly had your buddy for. It removed my tank partner. I never went back after that.
When this first came out in 2016, not even released yet, I loved the art style that I wanna emulate it in 3D animation. Never played it but I bought it still for reasons. Now I graduated and I don’t have the motivation to even know anything about OW 2
Another top review on steam that's also really funny, is someone commented how Overwatch corn artists put more effort on making ow corn in a couple of weeks, compared to the devs effort making ow2 in the past 2 years
Its also worth to mention that the players who paid for OW1 were litteraly robbed. Not onyl we got nothing for buying it earlier we now have to pay even more for the story mode and the features we paid for also were taken away. Thats utter bullshit
Blizzard did a similar thing with Warcraft 3. They scrapped the servers for the origional game. These servers were still running strong after 16 + years then they replaced the old warcraft 3 servers with crap new ones with less features
I was lucky enough to be at Blizzcon 2019 and actually got to play the build with the talent tree's and all that. It was awesome, I've stopped using all Blizzard products for over a year now. After everything that they've done/do and how much of a fan I used to be, it feels like the heartbreaking loss of a good friend turned bad.
It's not even close to the pve mode being cancelled, I agree there. People keep pretending that's the case and it's bs. Overwatch was literally made from remains of a high profile cancelled game. There was a lot of other factors to the downfall. Like the focus on balancing around eSports. Or the 2-3 year span of time with no significant updates.
The game was basically just updated for the monetization system. Everything else was just an excuse to soften down the impact of updating teh game for the monetization system.

I hate the false praise a decade year old game gives and that it feels like a fake way to talk about
Just play community server
As a TF2 player, I feel like for some reason I've always harbored some sort of subconscious angry resentment towards Overwatch, and I only realized this when I noticed how elated I was when I noticed how far Blizzard has been falling as of late...
I think that's kinda messed up to be resentful of a game that I don't even play.
To be fair, Overwatch during it's peak was called the "TF2 killer". It's like the many Minecraft fans hating on Hytale, a game that hasn't even released, for already being called the "Minecraft killer". Don't worry man, your feelings are plenty justified.
Not at all. Anything that bigs itself up as an "x killer" then fails at it deserves every piece of shit thrown at it for its fucking hubris.
I know the feeling. Except instead of harboring any significant resentment of the game and its community, I've just been sardonically laughing at the whole thing and making fun of the players who just lost a game they loved.
Yeah, I'm not too particularly nice of a person. Been trying to taper off that edge of mine so I stop sounding like a complete jackass.

hes very funny+ huge edits
2024 and now all there is is hackers and throwers. can’t even rank up solo anymore.
It made me so freaking sad to see one of my favorite games destroyed by a money factory, the developers & artists must have felt so much anxiety because of that
Gib Bobby Kotick your money goy!
Do you want me to cheer you up
No such thing as anxiety, grow the fuck up, its life, and go outside and also fuck your anxiety
I miss original Overwatch, wish they would just revert the game back to how it was. I know that will never happen but a man can dream.
Overwatch 2 would almost certainly have ended up like PvZ Battle for Neighbourville if they hadn’t shut down Overwatch 1. Almost abandoned
@@Rockstar-vs1nb Honestly yeah
Didn’t you learn if you keep supporting blizzard it’s only going to get worse? I mean it’s literally why we’re here
Overwatch 2 also killed events.
Right? The first Uprising and Blackwatch events were cool. Then they regurgitated them for years until they became super stale lol
Yeah ow2 is literally pay to win so you can get the new characters
Valve: you know what, let's make a sequel for one of our online game and leave it without any new updates for a while
(the community still loved it)
Activision/Blizzard: you know what, let's make a sequel for one of our online game and shutting down the first game forever

For those wondering, all the skins you could earn for free in the first game are now being sold at ridiculous prices in the second game which is also littered with microtransactions a battle pass.
That’s just sad. I remember loving overwatch back in the day.
Let's add a little more fuel to the fire:
If you start out with a blank account in overwatch 2, you need to grind your player level up to access roughly half of all characters in the roster. Not even including the new ones locked behind battle passes

this whole thing is so bizzare to me. overwatch was the new cool shiny thing that 5 years ago was supposed to be the "TF2 killer" because it was very interesting, but now it really just feels like Tf2 players just feel sorry for overwatch players
i know games can die quick but the turnaround in even a few years from being beloved (if a bit complicated for new players) to the trashfire that is actively being abandoned is just shocking.
its just bizzare to me to see it. it really makes me humble myself as a tf2 player. valve may not update us much but they also don't change things that are working to make them worse, and don't promise things they can't deliver on. I'd rather be ignored than completely obliterated like whatever happened to overwatch 2
Trust me we also got ignored during ow1, there wasn’t a major game update for the last 2 years of OW1. (But I still much preferred that to ow2 lol)
that sounds rough, for us tf2 players, the last major update that came out BEFORE the current summer update was a whole 7 years or so ago
Of course I am very glad that there are still players that are wise just like you
It would’ve been the TF2 killer had they not shot themselves in the foot
@@Phoenix-fw7bmthey're both class based fps, what is there not to compare? Of course people are gonna do that when overwatch was flaunted so hard as something that could be compared to TF2.
I think it was years of pent up frustration without any meaningful place to talk about it, for example in overwatch 1 they kept rehashing the same seasonal content and having a dumb focus on eatsports and cosmetics. Then overwatch 2 finally promised some great changes and additional content, yet it turned out to be a straight up downgrade in every aspect. I really hope blizzard ports all their games to steam

This argument makes as much sense as me saying that "you prefer ow2 right now because of nostalgia".. Which honestly probably would have more merit to it because there is people that are still attached to ow2 more out of being nostalgic for the past of Overwatch as a whole..
"terrible metas" stop pretending that ow2 is in such a great spot - literally everyone who plays the game competitively right now is talking about how horrible the current season is..
