Excellent video but the music is torture. Either knock it on the head, record Dylan asking for his tea or just go with the speeded up Alan Partridge Radio Norwich you used to have. Just saying.
Dude, This thing is so cool! I so have to make one now. Thank you for sharing your troubles and mistakes and how you overcame them too. That makes it seem more achievable. Great video. Thank you.
No fancy $10000 machines, little mistakes here and there, a real diy project for amateurs who love to do things in wood but do not have a complete professional workshop. Love it, thumbs up. Turned out great. :-D
This is what I like - creativity, and not doing things as others would ("hopefully only I will notice") ... who cares who notices, you built it for yourself, and it turned out a success. Keep going!
Awsome job Rag! Here is my input: Your fence is clearly moving at 06:56 You can also lower the band geleider to just right above the wood. That might help preventing the blade from tilting to left or right.
I'm glad in the last 7 years you've given less music in your videos. It takes something away somehow but hard to explain. Also man your hair was brown at one time lol
Wow! Nice job! I have recently gotten into woodwork, and looking out for ideas etc. We too have loads of scrap, so maybe I could make something similar! You've got yourself a new subscriber!
slide the guide down to keep blade straight will salve your drift problem. guide should always be as close to project piece as possible . but looks real good. love it
NIce project. Good choice of Oil Finish. You showed a simple technique of band saw cutting on the drawers more should learn from it. On the inside waste you made 3 cuts, one to each corner and then along the back, so easy on the band saw and yet so many try harder ways to get out the waste. Band saw with no fence is my go to tool for so many simple cuts. Try a 1/4 inch blade properly set and you won't switch. thanks I subscribing.. Hals Wood Shop
A very beautiful result. I find that drift is sometimes caused by the fact that the blade is not seated correctly on the apex of the tires. If the gullet of the blade sits on the apex it runs fine.
Cool project! In the video you said you positioned the new bandsawblade in the middle of the wheel. That is fine as long as your teeth are sticking out in front of the wheel. If your teeth are on the wheel, with the tension on, it will push the setting outof your blade. And that causes the drifting of the blade. That said, well done!
Thanks Johan I will check if the teeth are on or off the wheel next time I'm in the workshop. I don't have much experience with bandsaws so have a lot to learn!
Nice work Rag :) Not sure I understand Johan's point about the blade position on the wheel? I always position the blade (on the top wheel....don't worry about the bottom so long as it aint gonna fly off!) so that the gullet of the teeth (the deepest part, or 'valley', of the tooth) are riding somewhere close to the crown, or centre, of the bandsaw wheel. Bandsaw drift should not happen....it's indicative of poor blade guide setup (keep 'em as close to the workpiece as possible), knackered blade or the wheels not being co-planer. Incidentally, cutting curves is a great way to blunt one side of the blade thereby throwing the cut off (or drifting).....try to keep a dedicated blade for curve work only.
hey. im a novice woodworker and i dont have a lot of knowledge and i certainly wouldn't think to give anyone advice but i think you may be getting drift because your guide is too high. i get drift too and i usually do what you do and just compensate for it but its usually corrected when i sort the guide out. but i have a little crappy bandsaw by clarke so im no expert. maybe its different between models of band saw. but like i say i know very little so take it with a pinch of salt i suppose. great video sir.
+ohdeasu I'm no great woodworker either, but what I am finding out fast is good tools make all the difference in the world. Good luck on your adventure.
My bandsaw looks exactly the same. It is a DeWalt though, which company I take it acquired Elu at some point in the past and kept producing and developing some of their designs for a time. (Also routers.) There were different bandsaw versions though. Mine has a three-phase motor and twin speed belt drive. It was set at the lower speed setting when I got it. That's not really fast enough for wood, I think it was meant mostly for cutting aluminium. Running the blade at a higher speed should also help with the drift since it should transport the sawdust out of the cut more quickly (if I'm not mistaken). 6:54 "Then the lade started to drift again for some reason" - Notice how that was the first _cross_-cut after those -_-rip-_--cuts that had gone so perfectly without drifting? ;-)
The resaw blade was a good idea, but I too find a bandsaw fence often worse than freehand. However I think you need a very fine blade [hence a smaller kerf] for bandsaw box work. Bet you've cracked it by now though [2018]
Nice vid, i like it. I've got the self same bench sander from machine mart. a very useful sander. i've also got the same makita orbital. Where did you get the bandsaw from?. Bandsaw box is none to shaby.
Thank you. The bandsaw is by ELU and I bought it on eBay. I think the same saw is also sold under the DeWalt name but as one of their budget saws. It's not the best to be honest and may get upgraded at some point but does the job for now
I'm sure it was.. Still no need of that goofball to diss me.. He doesn't even know who I am or who he's dealing with.. I've forgot more than he'll ever learn..
+Alex M combination of a poor quality blade and not enough tension I think. I've since got a more powerful bandsaw too. But I recommend buying a blade from tuffsaw as that has made the biggest difference. They last ages and cut really cleanly. They're not a sponsor by the way I just really like them!
14:20 No, we call that "rustic". ;) I'm looking forward to trying something like this once the new trunion comes in for my new bandsaw... that I managed to tip over moving into place... before I even got to use it once...
I just want to thank you for your woodwork arranges [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking .com*]. I have attempted a few different arrangements and most times I get lost on what to do. This is the least demanding and most basic arranges ever.?
Nice project, but I agree with the comment about the music. I found it rather distracting and would prefer to just hear the sounds made by whatever operation you are carrying out.
Nice job. The box came out well. I know all about them "design changes/features"! Hey, if you want a great, easier way to ensure your drawer dividers end up perfectly spaced and aligned, check out my video about making a band saw box with square corners drawers. I think you'll find it useful.
Great tip, take off the clamps once the glue has dried......Damn it!...............now I know why my table saw, thickness planer and my bandsaw are totally fooked. Just kidding, you made a nice box there TFS.
+nick sainsbury - I don't think that would matter. The drawers are made from the wood cut from the carcass. The gap is the result of the saw blade's kerf. One could eliminate the gap by placing the between-drawer dividers closer together. But that would disturb the continuity of the grain. Plus, the gap fillers are cosmetic; they aren't a necessary addition. They just eliminate the gap and add visual interest. In most cases, the gaps in band saw boxes are perfectly acceptable.
I'm not perfect at all but when it comes to woodworking it has to be perfect for me so when I saw some things that weren't quite right it made me mad!!
Agreed! 14 minutes of the same riff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!
In wood working there are no mistakes. only unintended design features
Love that!
Just happy little accidents!
That came out real nice. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve seen that bandsaw before! 😁
I love going back to old videos 😊
Looks great, glad you never gave up on the project, keep posting
Excellent video but the music is torture. Either knock it on the head, record Dylan asking for his tea or just go with the speeded up Alan Partridge Radio Norwich you used to have. Just saying.
This turned out really great. Love how the box comes to life when you apply the BLO
Dude, This thing is so cool! I so have to make one now. Thank you for sharing your troubles and mistakes and how you overcame them too. That makes it seem more achievable. Great video. Thank you.
The rounded top is a nice touch. I'm glad you didn't give up and start over.

Love it, thumbs up. Turned out great. :-D
Super video, nice simple and concise. Glad to see another Brit is taking the time to show his work. Please keep it up. Thank you.
Thanks a lot! :-)
It came out rather nicely for your first attempt! Good job!!
This is what I like - creativity, and not doing things as others would ("hopefully only I will notice") ... who cares who notices, you built it for yourself, and it turned out a success. Keep going!
Awsome job Rag!

Nice work and very good presentation. Thank You.
Really nice project!
You make fun and informative videos, keep it up!
MrMonsen Thanks very much!
That is boss for a first attempt mate. Just getting going on my bandsaw and will try this. Keep going with your channel; it's quite inspirational.
Great work here, greater gift idea for my young niece so she can store her dollies' clothes. Cheers.
Sweet!!! Looks great and easy to follow video... thanks for the idea...
It looks nice for your 1st one!
Wow! Nice job! I have recently gotten into woodwork, and looking out for ideas etc. We too have loads of scrap, so maybe I could make something similar! You've got yourself a new subscriber!
good job i liked the way you explained in detail great job
Fantastic first attempt! I would love it on my dresser.
Awesome project!!!
wow this is awesome. it must have taken ages!!
turn out nice Mr Rags
Well done. Enjoyed the vid.
I think it looks great!!
Using scrap to create an item of such beauty appeals to me.
great job. not flaws, character from hand crafting.
at first i thought "what an odd way to make a box with drawers!" but then i searched "band saw boxes" and i think i learned something.
good job buddy!
slide the guide down to keep blade straight will salve your drift problem. guide should always be as close to project piece as possible . but looks real good. love it
Just inspired me to make my own. Thank you
Love the use of scrap to create an heirloom. Should sign this somehow!

Cute box, out of scraps :)
really enjoyed the video, thanx
Wow looks so nice well done :-)
I found the blade position on the wheels and blade tension help control/eliminate drift.Hope that helps.

Box is nice I like it , god damn drums drove me nuts
it's a work of art thank you for sharing it
Rag n bone at 6.57 seconds your band saw fence moves mate, so i dont think its a problem with your blade mate, love your videos!!
Good work. I like it.
Check out Alex snodgrass’ band saw video. A must watch for anyone who owns a bandsaw.
Great build !!
for a first attempt you did good,
First time ? great job better than me
Love use of scraps to create an heirloom.
Pretty good job ref the bandsaw blades you want to use tuff saw blades they are the best and makes cutting better.
looks great
That's a thumping bassline Keith. You ought to put a donk on your new videos :)
hey. im a novice woodworker and i dont have a lot of knowledge and i certainly wouldn't think to give anyone advice but i think you may be getting drift because your guide is too high. i get drift too and i usually do what you do and just compensate for it but its usually corrected when i sort the guide out. but i have a little crappy bandsaw by clarke so im no expert. maybe its different between models of band saw. but like i say i know very little so take it with a pinch of salt i suppose.

That is very nice....
good vid. good music
clap clap clap, amazing!
Have you considered revisiting this project on your new charnwood bandsaw? do you think the new bandsaw will do away with the same issues you had?
+Daren Cooper I will at some point. My blade issues were solved as soon as I started buying decent quality blades (tuffsaw)
My bandsaw looks exactly the same. It is a DeWalt though, which company I take it acquired Elu at some point in the past and kept producing and developing some of their designs for a time. (Also routers.)

I am not sure how sped up this video is but slow down your feed rate when resawing also a taller fence really helps
What is the best belt to make bandsaw boxes? I'm a newbie
The resaw blade was a good idea, but I too find a bandsaw fence often worse than freehand. However I think you need a very fine blade [hence a smaller kerf] for bandsaw box work. Bet you've cracked it by now though [2018]
Amazing
Very nice
make a hotwheels display case ! (like the plano box)
Hi, very nice video :) i really like your table saw, what type of table saw it is?
+Matus Mjartan It is a Dewalt dw744 contractor style
very nice man right on (y)

perfect
At 4:32 you damn near cut your thumb off..
Glad to see you using a push block later on..
I'm sure it was..
Still no need of that goofball to diss me..
He doesn't even know who I am or who he's dealing with.. I've forgot more than he'll ever learn..
also at 9:34, that was not a very smart move, too close, thats how shit happens
My thoughts exactly, that thumb should've never been that close to the blade...
My bandsaw does the same thing. I have given up on using the fence at this point. Did you ever figure out what helps?
+Alex M combination of a poor quality blade and not enough tension I think. I've since got a more powerful bandsaw too. But I recommend buying a blade from tuffsaw as that has made the biggest difference. They last ages and cut really cleanly. They're not a sponsor by the way I just really like them!

I really like the box your friend Philip white

Nice project, but I agree with the comment about the music. I found it rather distracting and would prefer to just hear the sounds made by whatever operation you are carrying out.
Love the music.
i like this type better than the wonky curvy type
I believe that the hardwood you used is sapele, but I am not a 100% sure.
Nice job. The box came out well. I know all about them "design changes/features"! Hey, if you want a great, easier way to ensure your drawer dividers end up perfectly spaced and aligned, check out my video about making a band saw box with square corners drawers. I think you'll find it useful.
Really nice design. More time with the finishing and it would have been fantastic. Still like it :)
would bet money this is kevin mcleiod
Great tip, take off the clamps once the glue has dried......Damn it!...............now I know why my table saw, thickness planer and my bandsaw are totally fooked. Just kidding, you made a nice box there TFS.
Actually. After seeing that you used tapered strips to fill the gaps above the drawers I'm thinking you may have already seen my video.
I may well have seen it. I'm watching UA-cam woodwork videos all the time!! :-)
Wood 'n' Stuff w/ Steve French making drawers before gluing carcass back together could have saved need for gap filling bollock strips
+nick sainsbury - I don't think that would matter. The drawers are made from the wood cut from the carcass. The gap is the result of the saw blade's kerf. One could eliminate the gap by placing the between-drawer dividers closer together. But that would disturb the continuity of the grain.

What kind of wood used?
Sorry, I see now))
Anyone that's watching this don't forget your riving knife
your own furniture plan building
Good job! Had to turn the sound off because of the invasive sound track.
I'm not perfect at all but when it comes to woodworking it has to be perfect for me so when I saw some things that weren't quite right it made me mad!!
Well done, looks great!!! But please, no more music, drives me nuts, video and voice over is really fine.
if you had used that jointer on all the faces before glue up you would have gotten a better glue joint
GOT a better glue joint
That's mohagany
The music doesn't add anything to the video...
no need to ruin everything with music.
