Hey man I’ve been watching your vids for a while now and I just want to say that I really enjoy them and the quality is excellent. You provide a nice depth to your story telling and your humour is on point! This video especially took my back to memories of me and my younger brother sneaking downstairs at 2am to play a Hoth battle against each other when we were 12 and 10. Good times man. Keep up the excellent work! ☺️
A friend of mine in college will regularly play this game. We don’t get tired of it. Probably one of the best games ever, as it was one of my first video games

I love rebel NPC's having their own names - Rayce Farrelle once saved me from Vader in Bespin. And some characters share surnames, so you can imagine brothers signing up to fight together!
I need to get into this game. I got it a few years ago for my PS2 because Battlefront 2 splitscreen was my childhood and I hope you make a video about that one too
I personally enjoyed the first battlefront more than the second - I can understand why most people liked the second more, but I thought the first was the right amount of content without starting to feel a bit "busy"
I had so much fun playing this with my friend. I remember the day it came out and we went over to his to play it. The newer Battlefront games just don't hit as hard as this did.
Thanks for starting off the new year covering this classic Star Wars game, Flandrew! Never played this, but i loved og battlefront 2 back in the day, had so much fun playing it! Can't wait for that video!
Flandrew, I love your videos! Seeing a new one in my feed just brings a huge smile to my face. In the mid 2000s I played Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, KOTOR, Republic Commando and BF2. I got BF2 at launch on PC and then later in 2007 I got the Renegade Squadron white PSP with both BF:RS and BF2, and across both PC and PSP I must have had well over a thousand hours on BF2, but I never even tried BF1 (Despite even owning it on GOG now! Cursed be those sales!) One thing that amazed me across SW media was how consistent Kashyyyk always appears. I understand that BF2 and RC devs had access to RotS, and before it was always based on the Holiday Special look, but I always found that surprising considering how universally hated the HS is. I remember reading Heir To The Empire after seeing the prequels and in the beginning Luke is on the balcony of the Imperial Palace on Coruscant looking towards some great mountains - I’m sure they retconned this somehow.
Great video! One small correction - the Xbox version doesn’t restrict you to just instant action in split screen, it also lets you play galactic conquest
I, personally, felt like the first game was for the most part the "better" version. Mostly because the second game did a lot of things, but their novelty wore off. The Battle Points system in two giving you unlocks, unlocking classes over the course of the game for "balance", giving you heroes, etc was neat but over time I found them mostly overpowered. The Award Weapons were especially egregious. I feel like BF1 was good by virtue of "less is more". For what it was, it did it well. Although there are a lot of things that still made 2 really good (galactic conquest was very well done). But also, there were so many maps in 1 that I wished were ported over into 2.
It’s honestly amazing that everyone that played it back in the has basically the same experience, not to mention the loading of the maps 🤌🏼 this is an amazing video by the way buddy ol chum.
I played SWBF2 2005 before I discovered and remembered to play BF1 2004 I played BF2 2005 back in High School during the weekends, back when I was only able to play single player. I grew up playing this along with Halo CE, COD1,2, Battlefield 1942 and 2, Empire at War. And it still impact me till this day, I still prefer single player games compared to multiplayer games. Those were the good ole days
Its been a while since I suscribed and up until this day I have no idea how I reached Flandrew channel, maybe the algorithm? I dont know, but how glad I am of that. This is one of the few channels where I actually watch every weekly upload, and I am grateful for that. Excellent channel and best regards from Mexico!
12:15 There is multiplayer Galactic Conquest, but it's limited to the shorter versions of it (more planets start as "contested" as opposed to fighting on almost every map)
What a game. My love for the Star Wars franchise deepened tremendously after playing this and the sequel. They made me think about the soldiers fighting the titular wars and not just the Jedi and Sith. Obviously, the graphics don't look that great now, but back then I felt immersed on the frontlines of the galaxy. When you think about it, it's kind of nuts that the sequel was better in pretty much every way when this one was as solid as it was. But that's a topic better suited for BF2's 20th anniversary video! Also, shoutout to Pandemic Studios for making some of the best games of the early 2000's. Battlefront 1 & 2, Destroy All Humans 1 & 2, Army Men: RTS, Mercenaries 1 & 2, and The Saboteur, to name a few. I suppose a lot of those are hard to find and play now, but if you can, give them a shot!
Not only did they announce a compilation of Battlefront 1 and 2, but it's gonna have 64 players instead of the previous limit of 32, all the dlc for both 1 and 2 [including the xbox-only ones like Kit Fisto and Ventress] and an expanded Hero Assault with more maps. The trailer also seems to show the graphics got cleaned up a bit too, so it looks better. Incredible.
I grew up playing Battlefront II for PC, which I received as a Christmas present, though I never finished it's campaign until I got to play the PS2 version years later. For the first Battlefront, I remember having good times playing it with my cousin, who had it for his PS2, but to be honest I really hope we get the Battlefront II video since it's the great one for me. Great video as always!
I was only a little kid when I played SWBF1 on PC even though I'm a controller/console player. I don't even remember that the heroes were invincible, that's so weird. And you can't even play as them too, wow.
I got this in the "Star Wars: The Best of PC" 2006 physical bundle for my birthday one year. That was a truly fantastic gift and possibly video worthy.
Whoa, those devs made Full Spectrum Warrior? I freakin loved that game, it was so unique. I haven't really seen anything like it since. It was like real time xcom.
Oh, yes! I might have played the second one first, but finally getting to this one I just couldn't help but love it. Especially the Rhen Var maps. They became my favourites of the franchise pretty quickly. And the mods! Oh, so many great levels to find! Such as a Mario Kart battle course. Truly brilliant times.
Fantastic game! I remember failing Bespin City level over and over with insane stats - killing like 100 enemies, dying less than 10 times and still losing xD. But Bespin platforms was pure joy - sniping all the Stormtroopers trying to get into the main chokepoint.
One of my favorite games ever! I played sooooo much instant action (and some online multiplayer before the servers shut down) on PS2. SWBF and SWBF 2 are games I could play 4ever
One of my all time favourite gaming memories is being an Arc Trooper and standing in the troop loader part of the drop ships and just watching the battle below.
Played the classic battlefront 1 and 2 on the xbox crystal back in the days... Such nostalgia. The feel of battlefront 1 is better, with blaster bolts that explode, proper shockwaves that throw people about and cockpit view when in vehicles. Not to mention being able to go prone. Battlefront 2 is also one hell of a game. Had to download both on steam and have a play through. The medal system in Battlefront 2 is pretty neat.
Love the video, and the game, played lots with my dad, also at 9:02 in Hoth you can harpoon the AT-ATs yourself if you react quick enough changing the seats
Always thought this put the second game to shame. The docks map is GOATed. To this day I still play a round time to time trying to top my highest kills in one match as the rebels. 128 is my record!
Great video, I only got the chance to play this once got an Xbox 360 in December 2006 and was blown away by the scale of it. Being able to participate in battles from the movies as a regular soldier and use a variety of vehicles made the game addictive. On the opening Naboo level I would usually just use the tank to kill the Gungans and the Droid gunship on Kashyyk. It was the best Star Wars game up to that point and before that I played Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader, Rebel Strike, Attack of the Clones and Bounty Hunter on the Gamecube. It is clearly overshadowed by Battlefront 2 but this game did a great job of laying the foundations for it's sequel.
This game was everything for our generation. In Russia, where I was born and raised, there were no 'Gamestops', and most games were distributed on pirated discs, while the Internet was very expensive then to download games. These pirated discs usually combined 4-5 games. We constantly exchanged these discs, and the Battlefront disc was a particular hit. There were so many warm moments while playing Battlefront. We would get together after school and play for hours, laugh, try to beat the Geonosis mission on hard (it was hell). There was so much laughter from the ragdolls, the soldiers were constantly tumbling over from the explosions (I think this is what makes the first part more lively than the second). How we defended the coast of Kashyyyk and tried unsuccessfully to blow up the shield generator on Endor. We also constantly tried to get into the victory shot. When the game ended, the camera "stopped" at one of the angles of the map, and if we got into this angle, then the emotions were also immense. There was no accessible, cheap and fast Internet in Russia then, as I said, and we constantly speculated after school what the third part of Battlefront would be like, whether there was one at all. What emotions did I experience when on some random website I found information that a game was being developed (of course, nothing came of it in the end, only a couple of games on PSP). This game is simply synonymous with my happy childhood. Some of my friends with whom I played the game had already left Russia, some died in the ongoing war, and some simply disappeared into everyday life. Thank you for reminding me of the happiest period of my life through the game.
It's still so good that you know the pattern of who is going to win without your help. A lot of times i would just dick around on the vehicles until the count is swaying negative then try to fight my way to victory. Also jet packing my way to steal a spider walker on Kashyyk or whatevr that island map was.
9:02 You can pilot the snowspeeder and take down the AT-AT on your own. I used to do it all the time. In Battlefront 2004 you can change positions in the ship and when you fly slowly past, you switch to the rear harpoon seat and once you've hooked onto the walker, you switch back to pilot and wrap him up. It's Battlefront 2 (2005) that you can no longer do this.
I remember how broken the Droidekas were but there was a funni bug they had where on the docks map (Kashyyyk I think?) theyd drown while in ball mode trying to get to the beach haha
This game blew my mind as a kid because I had no idea what to expect really. It was so different from anything I’d played & it felt so surreal. I remember not enjoying 2 as much, it had hero mode but it just didn’t have the soul the first one did. Idk the first one just has a special place in my heart
I remember EA BF was the first game I got for my Xbox One and man was I disappointed. Being a kid where your parents would NEVER pay for online and having a game that's %90 online felt like a kick in the balls. Especially since I loved the Battlefront Series
It was downhill for battlefront after og battlefront 2 2005 imo. Thats not to say that the new EA bf2 is bad (never played) but I think the original are still much better
I think the main problem is that EA went into it too hard trying to rebalance it as a multiplayer game, whilst the first games treated players as mature enough to do whatever the hell they wanted no matter how over-powered. Starfighters and andd vehicles kill everything? Let it, it's a sandbox experience. The battle is so big that after a while, I'd want to bail out the vehicle and go back on foot to find the action again or nearest outpost.
@@skycloud4802 They did the same with Battlefield. In the early Battlefield games grenades had maybe a 10 foot blast radius, of which 5 was lethal, you could take out like half a dozen people at once! Balance is a bit more important when it comes to PVP, but even online I only ever played such games on PVE servers. Personally I'd love to see a Battlefield/Battlefront like game that is combined with an RTS, you deploy and command the units from above, but can also take direct control of them at any time as an FPS. Battlestations Midway/Pacific actually did this, but only for naval/air combat.
Your comments on the space battles and boarding enemy ships is really astute. ➡️The ability to attack, board enemy cruisers , destroy ships support systems kept the game fresh enhancing player longevity. I especially enjoyed the ability to operate consoles 🖥️ on your capital ship that controlled lasers turrets to defend your capital ship from fighter craft 🛸 Just so many enjoyable levels of gameplay within the space battle scenarios!

Good times
This is the most nostalgic video I've ever watched.
I love rebel NPC's having their own names - Rayce Farrelle once saved me from Vader in Bespin. And some characters share surnames, so you can imagine brothers signing up to fight together!
Played it again the other day after a few years. Spent hours on it and got another session planned in a few days! Great game and still holds up
I need to get into this game. I got it a few years ago for my PS2 because Battlefront 2 splitscreen was my childhood and I hope you make a video about that one too
Great video, SWBF1 is awesome, had a lot of fun playing the Republic as a Jet Trooper.
It’s coming back, let’s GOOOOOOOO
I personally enjoyed the first battlefront more than the second - I can understand why most people liked the second more, but I thought the first was the right amount of content without starting to feel a bit "busy"
I had so much fun playing this with my friend. I remember the day it came out and we went over to his to play it. The newer Battlefront games just don't hit as hard as this did.
Thanks for starting off the new year covering this classic Star Wars game, Flandrew! Never played this, but i loved og battlefront 2 back in the day, had so much fun playing it! Can't wait for that video!
And now it gets brought to PS4 and PS5 so we can relive it, what a time to be alive!
Wow, I’ve been watching a lot of Original Battlefront content lately so this video came at a great time!
I always loved the original over Battlefront 2. Maybe just the nostalgia of playing it first in it’s class, but it just has a special feel to it.
Cursed be those sales!)
One thing that amazed me across SW media was how consistent Kashyyyk always appears.
I played SWBF2 2005 before I discovered and remembered to play BF1 2004
I played BF2 2005 back in High School during the weekends, back when I was only able to play single player. I grew up playing this along with Halo CE, COD1,2, Battlefield 1942 and 2, Empire at War. And it still impact me till this day, I still prefer single player games compared to multiplayer games. Those were the good ole days
Between this and the 2nd one, I sunk thousands of hours into playing. It was so much fun when I was younger to just play this game for hours.
As someone who replays BF2 very often, maybe once per year, i should get back to BF1 too sometime.
Funny thing is that the heroes are not invincible, but it takes 4 minutes of juggling them between tanks or running them over with speeders to kill em
or off the map
I never played Starwars Battlefront. Im here just cause I like to listen to your voice. Keep it up bud!
It's very calming ^_^
I went back to this like 6 months ago, ever since I've been addicted to Battlefront 2's MP, man it's good even now.
Obviously… An absolute classic 🔥
Congratulations you're a prophet
They were not given access to the movie before. They were given a description of what the planet looked like and went from there.
Battlefront 2 had a mode that was essentially space Risk, and I loved it. I was hoping the new one was a remake, but it wasn't :(
I will finally be able to play this without having the game crash in tbe middle of the loading screen
Mercenaries 1 is honestly such an amazing game.
Antstafer made Battlefront 1 with his mod to the next level!
I was only a little kid when I played SWBF1 on PC even though I'm a controller/console player.
I don't even remember that the heroes were invincible, that's so weird. And you can't even play as them too, wow.
Happy 20th Anniversary Battlefront. They'll never replicate your awesomeness like you did on the PS2.
Probably my favorite loading screen of all time. Another banger Flandrew!!
They are releasing this and Battlefront 2 (2005) in March 2024 on Switch, PS4 and PS5 with new content and online multiplayer!!
You released this video at the right Time!
I still play Battlefront on the PS2.
I'll break out my old Xbox to play this gem every once in a while. Got it on Steam too which is nice to play.
Love the classic content ! we need more creators like you !
When I was a kid, I always preferred the maps from Battlefront 1.
Bespin Cloud City was one of the few places where you could kill the Jedi by blowing them off the platform with a thermal detonator
I remember how broken the Droidekas were but there was a funni bug they had where on the docks map (Kashyyyk I think?) theyd drown while in ball mode trying to get to the beach haha
Your videos are improving. You are really coming into your own unique style.
i love watching these video essays over the original star wars battlefront games
holy crap those playstation magazine spoilers for RotS are so spot on, that is awesome
This game blew my mind as a kid because I had no idea what to expect really. It was so different from anything I’d played & it felt so surreal. I remember not enjoying 2 as much, it had hero mode but it just didn’t have the soul the first one did. Idk the first one just has a special place in my heart
I still play this game like crazy on PC
This one is timeless. Look what EA did to the franchise.
Honestly I don't think EA will ever reach the peak of what the first two Battlefront games have created either.
I especially enjoyed the ability to operate consoles 🖥️ on your capital ship that controlled lasers turrets to defend your capital ship from fighter craft 🛸
Just so many enjoyable levels of gameplay within the space battle scenarios!
this game was my childhood man and got a lot of kicks out of the jokes you made!
I remember playing this game for years ever since I was in kindergarten, and then fast forward to 6th grade I found out there was sequel all this time and I never knew about it. Safe to say I begged my mom for it immediately from how much I loved the first game
