      This is closer to the mark. Rather than being underrated, it’s more that he’s under-hyped. Whenever he’s discussed people say how good he is, they just mention others first.

    Carlos is the big brain category of drivers with Alonso .. Just look at the way he managed Singapore to drag Norris behind him who he knew could not take him but used him to act as a buffer to the 2 Mercs behind Norris who were catching them .. brilliant racing brain ..
    Just listen to the way he talks race strats to his pit team during a race .. hes more switched on than they are imo ..

      100% true you know that Saintz listens a lot to his father's experience. Also using Lando as the DRS buffer against other drivers is perfect, unless you are in a red bull. Max would never pull Perez along like that. However if Max did do that instead of blowing everyone away I think Perez would be getting a lot more 2nd place finishes but I know max is like " you gotta earn it" but lets see how max thinks 10 years from now when he is in a similar boat and not the #1 driver. I bet he would pull a nico and quit then because he would never want to be #2.

    Matt can barely stop grinning. Happy for him, this is brilliant exposure. On Carlos: now that he's the only other winner in F1 besides Max in 18 months, everyone is on the bandwagon, but I remember a few years ago - all the comments from media and fans we questioning whether he's up to the task. If you're winning, most will praise you, if you're losing, most will call for your exit... but by now, Carlos knows better and will take every hit and miss in his stride.

      Id say he's properly rated.
      He's very fast but not on the level of a Max, Lewis or Charles. It'd be very close with Fernando at this stage due to Fernando's age. He'd probably beat any other driver on the grid though, including George or Lando.
      Whenever Charles is " on it" he's easily clear of Carlos.

      Carlos should be staying at Ferrari, I think Leclerc is good but he chokes under pressure a lot we seen it many times. They should have kept saintz and then let LeClerc go. TBH the only reason Leclerc is staying is he is Monegasque and has money behind him. Otherwise he would be gone. Also he is fluent in Italian which is a big plus. If I was Lewis I would be learning Italian right now to step in there next year and be somewhat fluent.

      However, I still hope that Charles soon gets a car that he's so comfortable with that he gains the Max-like confidence to iron out all his errors. Imagine that: Charles' talent showing up every weekend, every quali, every race! And when he has an off moment he just bounces back and doesn't whine too much about it! But this is just me hoping.
      Right now Carlos seems like he could be more consistently in front this year.

      Thank you!! As an F1 fan from one of the colonies, I have to say thank you for this comment. I have no other option than British media for commentary and they are…..sensationalist, and luuuuuv creating narratives and running with them as FACT once the narrative is set in place. Following these events, it bleeds onto international, non-English speaking commentary as other media struggles to keep up with the ‘new reality’ which in fact was just invented by the Brits. This could be something as simple as a smear campaign meant to give one driver the appearance of being disliked, a ‘meh’ driver being talked up as being especially skilled when in reality the driver is just British, along with every other propaganda tactic under the sun.
      ‘Oh but British media is entitled to talk up their own drivers or pander to their own fans, all other countries do’….ok, this has a small kernel of validity….until one acknowledges the fact that the English language is the official language of F1 and the British media is the gold standard and isn’t just some regional commentary in Turkmenistan. They not only set the narrative and the tone of a race event such as a crash and whose fault it is, but most importantly, it is THEIR message being cast into half a BILLION listener’s homes from the totality of the population of the four colonies of the old empire.
      I mean no hate from this is comment, just healthy criticism. I adore the Brits and love their passion, but anyone would be remiss in saying the obvious…even the British will sometimes admit that their commentary is biased. It will often even cross the line into propaganda. The British media also tends to perpetuate the stereotype that Brits are very passive aggressive and a little on the snobby side. And sure, if you want that kind of commentary, then go ahead and create a regional commentary, something apart from the internationally cast Sky/F1TV/BrundleCroft package.

    Leclerc has always been portrait as the golden boy, the number one driver, but if you look at the stats its been pretty 50/50.
    Leclerc might have some more raw talent when it comes to speed, Sainz is a more complete driver.
    Where Leclerc buckles under pressure during a race, Sainz grabs the opportunity and gets it done.

    • @timoooo7320
      @timoooo7320 2 місяці тому +2

      But the stats have not been 50/50. LeClerc has been the faster driver and finished the seasons in the higher position than Carlos in a 2 of 3 seasons. Also, a couple of Carlos' wins were due to Ferrari messing up Charle's strategy, mechanical issue etc.. Carlos seems to be at the right place at the right time and makes the most of it, sometimes taking advantage of Ferrari strategy mistakes. But you don't make a decision on which driver to keep based on the times your team messed up the strategy, you want to keep the best driver period. Strategy errors need to be dealt with by fixing the issues with strategy. You dont say "I'll keep Carlos so when I mess up the strategy, he does better", no, you fix your strategy issues, and you keep the better driver, the driver's job is to race the car, not to make up for strategy deficiencies. Also, the only season that Carlos beat LeClerc was when Ferrari was having major stability issues with the car. So he just seems to beat LeClerc when something goes wrong, but under normal conditions, LeClerc is definitely the better and faster driver.

    • @StartPlayFinish
      @StartPlayFinish 2 місяці тому

      @@timoooo7320 Sure, bad strategy has hit Leclerc. Its also hit Sainz plenty of times. That was Ferrari messing up as a team as a whole. Its all part of racing. In the end, the results matter. Just look at how many points they both have had in the last 4 years. Seems pretty 50/50 to me. Yes, Leclerc is faster on one lap. He has more poles. He also locks up a lot of the time whenever he is in a battle for the win. He's done it with Lewis, Max, Perez.. He just seems to be unable to perform under pressure. When it matters. Sainz might be a bit slower, he is a more consistent type of driver and imo has better race craft then Leclerc. I don't consider Leclerc a bad driver, i just don't think hes on the same level as a Max, Lewis, Alonso. I'm not even sure Leclerc will ever win the championship. Same as Norris. They have the potential but somehow i just don't see it happen. Maybe once. He might be able to snag one up if everything falls together.

    I’ve said for a long long time that Carlos is underrated. His teammates have been world class, and he’s always there or there abouts.
    His victory in Singapore (keeping Lando in DRS) was top drawer and so controlled too.
    Charles has made quite a few errors along the way, so I don’t understand why he’s always considered the team leader.
    It’s a bit of a pain that Lewis is in and Carlos is out, as Carlos deserved better (although I am really interested to see what Lewis can do in a Ferrari)
    Right about now, I’m sure Lewis is feeling pretty happy (and lucky) to have got the drive over Carlos.
    Hopefully Carlos will end up in the Red Bull and we can see how good Max actually is, because Checo isn’t in the same league as a top class driver, and never has been.

    Max did say in his interview after the race that they only saw in the data afterwards, the brake had been dragging from the moment he set off from the line. "Realized later in the data" maybe the more appropriate word. This could be because if initially starting as a slight drag, as the brakes run so hot continually to operate effectively, it may not have been initially spotted in the data what was being caused by the drag and normal use. That is until the differential between the brake on other side became obviously significant in the data. The visual obviously became the real give away :)

      Alonso would never get along with a team mate that is competitive by nature he is confrontational. Having stroll as his team mate is a perfect choice because Fernando knows he is no challenge, so thats why he is staying at Aston. Even if they bring in another driver to replace stroll, if they are in the top 10 drivers in F1 Fernando would have made a move I am sure, Imagine Ocon going to his team he would be like HELL NO because he knows by definition Ocon was a lot like him when he was young, he would never take a team order to keep Fernando in front if they were in similar setup cars and racing for 1-2. So ya thats why he signed the deal he did. I would bet he has a no competition clause in his contract that no other driver can be #1 they would have to be his #2

    I think the number 1 thing they need to do with a lot of these tracks is bring back those huge gravel pits instead of those paved run off areas. Because this would stop a lot of those risky moves. Also I believe they need to bring back the V10/V8 non Hybrid engines with 100% sustainable fuels, making the cars the size of the 2010 cars (Not these big boats) that would make those tight turns a lot more race friendly because you can fit 2 into 1 then. I think also that F1 needs to understand they are not the only series out there getting a lot of attention, WEC and other racing is starting to gain on them. A lot of drivers skip F1 and go right to WEC, so I know some of them couldn't hack it in F1 but I believe before F1 FIA should give them younger drivers WEC experience first, then move them into F1 once they prove they can drive the endurance racing. Then a lot of younger drivers would get time to learn how to drive properly in a WEC car then move into F1. Then if they cannot make it in F1 it wouldn't feel like a downgrade going back to WEC.

    I usually like Bernie's analysis, but her comment about banning braking early in a corner is a bad comment as it just adds more rules and prevents drivers from being able to be defensive in their driving if they are about to be overtaken, not allowing them to fight for their position. We don't want to see all the fights and passes to only be in DRS straights, it ruins the races and makes the races feel so forced and boring. There are enough rules, probably too many rules. Stop trying to add more as a reflex every time something happens.

      @@markafcb the red flag would have placed more urgency in the minds of the drivers as their main thought would have been focused on minimizing time loss... Its NOT about stopping the cars and more about the URGENCY of safety for the individuals at risk. You don't need to look that far back to see races or track sessions that had a vehicle impeding the the track and immediate red flags have been waved. Race control are now so concerned with allowing the race to finish without stoppages, that once again safety is their second concern.
