For as good as those miata oil pan seals are(and they really are....look how good it stays in place even when its broken in two) I just don't understand why every last NA I see leaks from the valve cover.....so annoying. ;-)
@@MikesPlaceBiz I finally figured out the trick to getting the valve cover to stay dry - get the gasket at the dealer. I tried every brand of gasket I could find and they all started to leak within a year. I got one at the dealer and two years now it is still dry, I've even had it off and put it back on once, same gasket, still stays dry. The mazda gasket is different than all of the others - where every gasket has a sealing ridge on the bottom of the gasket that goes against the head, mazda puts a similar sealing ridge on the top of the gasket that goes into the cover. I have yet to see an aftermarket gasket with the top sealing ridge......
Hey mike i have a problem with rpm tach when idle also driving it doesnt go up its only goes up and random moments any idea how to fix it or what need to be replaced?

Mike that is one heck of a looking mess. I have Heard horrible sounds before. But never Seen such horror. *******QUESTION: Will a Knock sensor on a 2001-2004 VVT engine leak oil? I see oil but hoping it was oil running along the connection cable from a leaky valve cove seal. btw F-11 is an overprice, very short living chemical. Best to do a proper clay cleaning and buffing. Thanks for the showing of the sawed engine. Weird.
Hello Sir Charles, Thank you for your concerns of the oil leaking knock sensor. The sensor sits in a blind hole, not into a coolant or oil jacket. The fluid you see is the sensor's insulation melting. Does not need replace till failure. Will show a trouble code. Miatamecca.
Ain't going to be any prettier when you lift the head. Saw similar on a race car engine when driver flat shifted from3 to 2 instead of 3 to 4! The unrated clutch and gearbox combined with slicks meant the engine got the punishment! All the saveable bits made a pretty small pile next to the pile of wrecked bits.
