A little splash of glamour in a sea of grey Crossovers and SuVs. MB merged the C & E class to make the CLK back in the late 90s, so this really is the third generation CLK
Excellent review as typical Sofyan. I really appreciate the time you take to make your video the best they can be and show the car in its best light. The vehicles are always clean and framed against a nice back drop. It puts the focus on the car instead of the dirt and crap left the car. This is not usually the case with most reviewers. I watch a number of car reviewers and many are good but there is only one number 1 !
A few little fun facts for context of this vehicle…I haven’t read a comment talking about the spirit of this car being one with the old CLK…which if you look at MBs design language of the time, the CLK adopted more of a C design up front and E out back..this was also a time for Mercedes’ where they didn’t have dedicated E and C class cabriolets… When they did have a dedicated cabriolet E, it’s platform was majorly and adaptation of the C class architecture though it was distinctively “E” in its styling! I love this thing…they can come down a few notches on price though..
The taillight looks so similar to Lexus taillight. It’s actually not a bad idea for Toyota and Lexus to bring back the Solara/SC430 As a luxury convertible. I think it would do pretty decent. And yes, it would not look much different than the Mercedes and probably would cost about half the price. Not a bad idea.
With the electric motor providing torque at 0 rpm idk if brake torque launch method is needed, anyone can confirm? I just bought a CLE 450 and haven’t tried. Great review gents, I went from a 2018 C300 to the CLE 450. Engine was part of the decision as a 4 cyl turbo is fine for commuting but the 6 cyl turbo in a different world for spirited driving. I’ve watched I think every CLE review and build quality does’t get mentioned too often but I want to say the build quality is excellent. No creaks, squeaks, fabric issues, etc. CLE is a gem.
@@naveenthemachine It's quick enough, sounds better and has a better quality interior. It's been said many times that it's possibly the best built car you can buy.
@@naveenthemachine You have to sit in it to understand how incredible the LC500 is. A mid 4sec 0-60 is quick enough for most. The perfection is what matters.
I just saw a Lexus LC500 on the road yesterday in that candy red color similar to some newer Mazda's that I've seen and DAMN that car was gorgeous 🤩 I kind of agree with @naveen that the LC500 performance is kind of lackluster on paper, mainly because my nearly 20 year old 2006 Cadillac XLR-V weekend bruiser puts up nearly the same specs, actually a bit quicker even - I'd love looking at it in my garage though.
This is not a replacement for the E-coupe. It's a long C-coupe. I think it looks great, but the interior and driving dynamics (other than access to the 6cyl) are identical to the C-class. In fact, it's the same wheelbase as the C-sedan. The problem is that the interior of the current w206 C-class is beyond abysmal, low-quality, cheap trash; it's not even good enough for an A-class-tier car. I have an E-coupe and would never replace it with this. Don't listen to the marketing. It does get access to some E-class features that the C-class doesn't get, but doesn't mean it's upmarket. I guess if all you care about is having good looks and a Mercedes badge, you're doing well because you get the extra rear legroom compared to the outgoing C-coupe. However, I actually care about interiors and think Mercedes should be ashamed because this is unacceptable.
@@thebionicpig YES! If you get upgraded leather in the w214, you also get better materials around the cabin. I still don't love the new interior design language including the capacitive touch and piano black surrounding the seat controls on the doors. However, the E-class is decent quality. For the price of the thing, the CLE should have a bespoke interior or at least the E-class interior.
Awesome car but i wish it had the e class interior and thats wild that plastic at the bottom of the door for 85g's, last e class coupe was all good material on the door. This to me is basically a c class with e class power. Interior not adequate for 85k and thats that price, i seen 1 for 91k which is crazy. Mercedes new gen cars make me appreciate my cls and other previous gen Mercedes. These new ones are not it. Technology is dope and engine engineering is amazing but everything else is not
I thought about the Infiniti Q60/G37 too when I saw the front of this, the styling just looks a little downmarket to my eyes especially for upwards of $75k - The shape of the rear definitely gives 2nd generation Toyota Solara vibes, which isn't a great thing since they looked kind of dumpy and ungainly especially in convertible form to me.
This would be a real fun car to rent for a couple of days once or twice a year but beyond that it holds zero interest to me and I could write a check for it tomorrow. Great, very informative and entertaining review as usual Sofyan!
I understand the 'Solara look' connection on the back end. That was a car costing less than half (inflation corrected), a quarter century ago design with incrementally bigger trunk space and space for full size spare. Wow. Kudos to CALTY, Toyota's California design studios creating a design that compares to M-B's 2024 sporty convertible 4 seater. For much lower price point albeit less power and latest features lacking. How will this design hold up a quarter century later?
The a/c shutting off during heavy acceleration has been around for decades even on regular sedans , did they stop doing that at some point ? Because I know it was done to the smaller engines with less horsepower so when someone in their Mopar or GM sedan product accelerating on a ramp to the interstate , the a/c would shut off under full Pedal to the metal driving to give all power to the car to get quickly up to speed.
I sure hope mercedes has done something to improve their hybrid system when my S class died it was $19000 to fix. Ill never buy another hybrid again. It only had 52k miles after 10yrs.
Wow I’m surprised you had room for your legs in the back seat most of the euro convertible’s the front seats almost touch the back seats no room for a set of legs! So that surprised me for sure!
9:40. Sooo GM turned the back of their center screen with a "secret compartment " but MB couldnt find a way wit all that space behind that screen😢 Wasted opportunity

Why would you want bigger screens… sigh. The plague of modern cars. That screen is already monstrous. Recently bought SLC 300 roadster with a great tiny in-dash screen (still has CarPlay) and physical controls, and very happy with it.
As a current owner of a m440 convertible I can tell it’s my last bmw that I will buy , it’s my 3rd one the vehicle is nice but bmw has lost it styling, inside and out
I just gotta say, you’re all wrong about the Solara-copying rear. It’s late 90s / early 00s Ford Escort back there. And, yea, not a good look. Rest of the car is quite nice.
This is just the new c-class coupe that Merc wanted to charge more for by convincing us that there is an E-Class buried in there somewhere. Tell me what is in this CLE that is not also in the C-class minus two doors and I might be persuaded to think otherwise.
No sense in giving us "starting" prices for Mercedes or BMW. Just like this test Mercedes, there will always be $10K to $20K in options, most of which should be standard on a luxury vehicle.
The more you look at cars like this, the more you realize these cars are lease only vehicles. All this technology is not going to last. They are disposable technology like your iPhone.
Idk what happened, but i absolutely hate the look of most new Mercedes models. They all have this weird blob look and a design that just doesnt feel luxurious or cohesive compared to some of their older designs from even just 6 years ago....

This car's rear end looks great and I don't see the comparison to Solara much. Any car's angle can resemble another random car.
Your camera guy was absolutely right about the rear end looking like the Toyota Solara
Not the Solara 🤣

Awesome review..not fond of that rear..
I can't unsee the two vents and the cubby in the backseat looking like a frightened robot.
I'll take an LC500. The build quality is impeccable, it's built at the Tahara plant and it's got a bulletproof screaming 5.0 L V8.
But it’s very slow and doesn’t have features
Do agree with the interior though

Why most of car company do not make hard roof convertible? like toyota sc430 mclaren spider 720.why soft roof?
Apparently consumers think soft tops look better even tho the hardtop SL was gorgeous
SLK/SLC where the last for MB - these had low sale figs.
