This was a great video. Repairing the rad on my arctic cat 4wheeler. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world, brother!
You can get on thanks for making this video. I had to sift through so much garbage before I could find your video, it was simple to the point no frills and I was able to fix my radiator for 99 cents by going to O'Reilly's and picking up one of the sticks like you suggested
The old MAPP gas burned a lot hotter than propane but the new MAP gas is only rated to be 130 degrees hotter than propane. The old MAPP gas has been unavailable for many years but people think it is the same as the old suff. Sadly, it's not. Thanks for the video.
GOBDAMN GOBERMENT LIBRULS
i have map, torchs, flux an mig,and a decent stick welder, have never welded aluminum, after looking at 500 bucks for a ten by twelve inch rad , googled an found you and thx for being here an posting that you showed me the in's an outs i needed to know!
Thanks for the video. Saved me hundreds!
Thank you. Just saved me 125$.
I'm gonna attempt this tomorrow. Thanks for the info.
Good timing to see this since I need to do it. Miss your how to vids bob
Thanks man, I'm going to try this on my E430 tomorrow.
Good fix I’m doing this morning you save me 300 bucks for new radiator
Awesome man thank you I just got a really nice snowmobile the studs scratched the front heat exchanger and ripped it open
great video guy i will be doing this asap 10 stars ..
Could you explain the difference between soldering and brazing with Mapp Gas, and welding using MIG or TIG. Looks like you were brazing with what you were using. Thanks for showing us that it does work.
Regarding the original JB Weld, a great product that takes at least a full day to cure (unless you can figure out how to speed up the process with heat without ruining the job), I used it back in the day to fill up corrosion holes in the mating surface of the aluminum head of a fifties-era 6-cylinder Mercedes sedan I rescued from the scrap yard, then sanded it smooth by hand, and re-installed the head with a new head gasket. I drove it for 8 years without any head problems, then bartered it away for furniture for a new house.
Alright thanks looks easy enough. Now I'm gunna go give it a try and I'll let you know the outcome when finished lol
Great fixing technique thankyou
Thanks! Really Helpful.
Nice video! Thank you!
Thank boss for a nice video and explaination
Did you blow into my eye 👁️ lol. Thanks for the lesson bro.
Thanks for the quick how to. I got a cheaper brand aluminum 3 core for my mustang and its leaked since about a week after I out it in. Cars down right now so I'm gonna give this a shot. Again thanks man
I forgot to add. Being a cheaper radiator I think it may be too thin to actually weld. So hopefully this does the trick
i would think it will work fine, let me no what you used and how it turned out. thanks
Ill take a picture when I get around to doing it
great thanks.
greatest video ever thank you
Thanks man...good video
thank you
Great video. This is exactly what I was looking for exactly what I needed to do to my Radiator. Thanks!
Holy shit man, I wasn't paying attention at first part of video and then you blew into the mic and it scared the shit out of me...I was sitting up and listening the rest of the way. LMBO
Thanks for the video, gonna try this on my BMW 328i radiator and try to save me $600 smokes!!!!
thank you much for all your help
thank you
Great job Thank you
Thank you, now I'll see if I can do it.
Thanks Bob I'm gonna do it up
Great Video. Thanks.
Good video, thx. 👍
Thank You sir!
Nice . I have a hole in my Corvette radiator . I want to try to fix myself so I will give it a go . Thanks
let me no how it turns out.
@@bobslawnserviceplowing282 yea I will m8t
Great job
Thank you!!!
Cool thanks!
thanks
I have a propane torch kit, can I use the torch that came in the propane kit for the mapp gas canister or do I have to buy a mapp torch kit as well? I have to do the exact same repair on my radiator in my 83 Camaro.
Nice video Sir
Thank you
Thx!!
Great video...question? How long it can last the repair?
Thx
Thanks pops!!
I was trying to do it but I was not applying enough heat!!!
try map gas !!
keep on trying.
thank you
Just know, this video still comes in handy & is helping ppl. 02 GSXR 1000 rad is still 120 on eBay, saved me a lot of money and time
Came here just for my k3 600 also
@@lonelyboii93 I bought a big torch tip with igniter on the handle from harbor freight along with the aluminum rods & then map gas from autozone. I thought I had it on the first attempt but I didn't. So 2nd time I put about a pea size amount around the pinhole leak n it's holding so far. It's an aluminum race radiator that I had polished when I bought it from sum1 on ebay so I didn't want to take an L on it. TIP: don't melt the rod onto the hole, it won't stick. But keep putting it in the flame so it stays hot so that when the aluminum is hot, the rod won't cool it down & it'll flow with minimal effort.
2004 r6 same issue 😂
Bad ass 👍
jb weld will work too. I know people make fun of using that stuff but it DOES work. Believe it or not, when I was tech at Honda, the manufacturer recommended using it to repair a crack in a block for a customer.
i jb welded a radiator that was leaking in my dakota and it held for over 10k in the -30 degree winters we had here. i sold it still holding
Lol its does work I've mixed with that steel stick stuff I was mocking my turbo and I dropped that bitch on the radiator and it sprung another leak
JB is some seriously good stuff.
i had a crack in oilpan an used jb weld probably three times an after a few months it leaked each time maybe it's the hot oil or the gas in oil from blowby um stroked sbc but wouldn't hold so had to take the pan off an weld it dunno if coolant will cause it to react the same but my guess is it will over time, look on the brite side though you have a whole rad to figure out how to weld aluminum lol
@@pl7868 m?
nice video
Guess what I'm doing today? Thanks, I was thinking solder.
Thanks for this video... I think technically what you are doing is called soldering
Wonder if that would work on the GM A/C condenser coil ?
They always break at the weld.
That's professional weld.
Thanks
Nice
Rockauto.com. Lol
Good video man!
Do you use a brazing rod or welding rod?
I was about to order a new radiator and remembered I had some aluminum brazing rod in the garage
Fixing to try this method for my Explorer radiator. Got a pinhole somehow so i should be able to get it to flow into it and seal it.
Wow.
Thanks for a great video! I am curious if the weld blocks the flow of water in that flat tube or just reduces the flow. If it blocks the flow entirely, couldn't I just cut the flat tube and fold it on itself really tight? I understand just one flat tube out of commission will not affect the cooling performance of the radiator. Is good to have a plan B. Thanks again!

If you want it full proof fill the line. You have plenty left. Trying to just braze the surface is a fool’s errand.
Will the rod work on pot metals?
How thick was the rod u used? Apparently my o'Reilly s has different size welding rods ? Tnanks
👍
please give me an online store link to buy the special aluminum rod
Do you think this will work on a aluminum tank of the radiator on a Honda 1100 Shadow considering the pressure in the radiator? Do you use flux to help the aluminum suck into the hole much like lead solder?
Hey man! is there any way of doing the same job with soldering? (Aluminum radiator) I own an old ford and i´ve looked everywhere for a new one.
He is soldering in this video
I just took mine to the garage. I expect a new rad $130 plus labour
just poked a hole in my radiator. Looking through oreilly now they have a firepower brand brazing rod at 99c. It doesnt have great reviews on amazon but some look like user error. Ill have to take a look at home depot, they have a benzomatic al3 aluminum rod for 4 dollars. Do you think the rod with the higher melting point will hold betteR?
not sure but i have had good luck with lower melting
Thanks for the reply. I bought another brand rod at home depot but it seemed that the channels in the radiator would start collapsing before the rod would. I went to harbor freight and picked up the alumi weld rods and those worked much better. However by that time i had 3 additional holes so i just ended up replacing the radiator. If i wouldve bought the alumiwelds to start i problably couldve patched it up. Kind of sucked but oh well, atleast i got some practice.
thanks for the info, wish you could of saved the money.
i can't tell for one if the tube I'm working on is aluminum or brass. I think it's brass but when I scratch it looks bright like aluminum. Either way I'm using the Mapp gas and the tube gets hot quick, so hot it breaks off before I can get the alum rod to melt. Not sure what to do?
try LP not map gas. not as hot.
or try JB weld, let me no what happens.
Probably poor quality rods
Just tried some from eBay they would not melt unless held directly under the flame, at which point they balled up, oxidised and re solidified and would not melt again.
I've also tried rosin core, acid core, silver bearing solder, all with no luck
colorocko1 The aluminum is a heat sink, and it requires maintaining a high enough temperature, like from Mapp gas (now called Mapp Pro because they changed the formula), while you're trying to get the silver solder or aluminum rod to flow. It also takes some luck to keep from ruining the radiator while learning how to fix it.
Try shoving some cheese in. You will find something that works)))
You blew right past the flux issue. What kind did you use, and where did you apply it?
The rod has flux core. When it gets hot the flux in it helps it flow.
Probably a hundred comments just like this:
A closer view of this operation would be 100x better😉
Put a Microscope over your screen.
yeah, he conveniently didn’t pressure test it. I’ve struggled with this on mine, did it about ten times and no luck, always a pinhole leak.
Did you fix it or get a new radiator?
Could I do this on the plastic part of the radiator? 😆
Aye bob you located in Maine?
Can i get the list of the tools and materials you used
Will it work on AC condenser radiators?
Did it work for you because I need too
Yes it will
@@bobbyj1917 yes it will
The tools are free but you have to pay full value with a CCard and you can keep the tool for more like a month.
Just today the mechanic made buy a new radiator to cost at the end $1261 for a Frieghtliner Cascadia semi truck
GOOD SHAIRING KNOWLEDGE
Will this work for an AC condenser?
Yes it will work
I know this is an old question but hopefully this will help someone else that will need it.
Soldering is the process he is doing if the temp is 450° F or less.
Brazing is this process @ roughly 650° F or more.
This process can be done as welding with an aluminum rod but with Oxy - Acetylene torch. Normally this is to hot of a process for this thin of material.
The biggest difference between all of these processes is temperature and the filler used.
I believe Mapp gas is much more than 300° F difference as this guy was saying.
The bigger difference than can be made there is the torch head used. Not between each gas compared to each other but with the same gas used vs different torch heads.
I will say the bernzomatic T8400 is definitely worth the money spent. Don't buy cheap torch heads. You'll end up regretting it.
Need to see it more close
hi there what is the aluminum rod you bought can you provide the name or the link. thanks you
you can get lo flow, low temp rod a harbor freight, or your parts store.
Bob's Lawn Service & Plowing would this work on a ac condenser
@@bobbyj1917 Yes it would work
Ur fuckin awesome
Dmn jual alat solder ini
Does it have to be the aluminum rod or can I use regular solder?
i wood think so, let me no how it works. thanks
if the radiator is all aluminum you have to use the aluminum rod.if its older radiator can use solder. check with parts store on what solder to use.
I've used regular plumbing solder seems to be working just fine on my radiator lol
How to soderthe tank seam
my leak ia on the side of the radiator what can I use?
Use your hands to turn the radiator the other side up. There.
What is road name
You get like just because the intro WHATS UP
Flip it upright. Much easier
0:39 you said you used "Easyflow"... then you said you used 2:09 "Trueflow".... which one was it please
Can you do this repair while the radiator is still installed on the vehicle?
i would think if you could get at the hole ok it wood work.
As long as you can get it hot and clean it off
To think I once threw a radiator away because it had a hole....
It’s cold and your trying to heat up a heat sync
How do you find the leak ? Now for this driver hit the wall www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1022/1022_01.asp
Just tried this and a big fail.
Sorry, you are just plugging it. This is soldering not welding. Misleading title.
SORRY MY BAD, FIXED IT. THANKS
Thank you
Nice good
