- Trenton and I take a little cruse on Thing 1 and Cheapo. I sense something isn't right so we have to stop at one point to look things over. It was the first ride on Thing 1 for the season.
It's hard to believe the sleds of my youth and days as a young man are considered classics now. The machines from this era are special and it's great to see you and others keeping them alive and well!

Yes there really is nothing like a triple. Usually with the xcr 800's if the power is not feeling quite right it's often an issue with a variable exhaust diaphragm. well in my experience any ways. I have my 01 xcr 800 motor disassembled now, For an over haul pretty excited about that it's been a while. And I just acquired a sweet crank up rebuilt 680 and water pump. With billet heads. So that's always awesome. The triple addiction is real. I thought I was alone on that one, but now I have you guys. So now me and my four triples and pile of parts can feel at home.
😂😂 glad you enjoy what we do. The carbs slipped out of the old boots. You could hear it in the video it was sounding louder on the intake
@@toddclyne3493 Ah dang yea good thing you caught it. I hate putting them rack carbs on they are a bit tricky to get into the boots and I never know if I got them in properly. I love my 800, But I love my 680 wedges maybe just a little bit more, because there are a few things about them that are just a bit simpler to maintain and work on.
@@506curtis I'm bringing up new carb boots this weekend. We put the new black slides in so we had the carbs off. Fought them for an hour putting them back on. Something did sound right so I stopped. I had my suspicions 😂

Carbs slipped out of the boots. You can kind of hear the sound changed and it was being sluggish

Man you guys must have all the snow right now, I'm in northern Michigan and we have none and our lakes probably wouldn't even hold a sled right now

We are at our yearly snow average right now. And it’s only mid-January
what state and lake do you ride on? Because I need to move wherever this is. I have 0 snow and my lake barely has a skim coat of ice.

A guy named Art Sever used to build ultras to 750s/800s using storm parts. Pistons and sleeves. PSI pipes worked well on those mongrels. HTG made 900 based ultras too. They all ran way better than they should’ve. The 680/800s using Pretty shitty investment pipes, and 800 storm liners and pistons. ran away from last the year 98 storms/99-03 XCR 800s. Sucked Trail riding one, but in a straight line…. They rode like a light switch. On or off. But the noises they made… mountain guys built lots of mod sleds using them, and the noise those ultra based motors make… good luck finding one like it. Only Rotax small bore twins scream like them.

Was hoping there was a heads up coming until the last words uttered. Spx sounded great. Just wish they were wedge or Gen 2... 😬. My opinion doesn't matter. Nice sleds either way. 🤷♂️
We buy what's reasonable. Gen 2 xcr 800s are out of my price range 😂
