Do you want to be an Adjuster? Let me know your questions below
Hi Daniel, this video is so clear and you explained it very well. I am preparing my mind for this type of work. I am currently a loan advisor in the auto industry. Been working for almost 8 years in the industry. I am a top performer for the company an working for. I’m paid pretty well. Now I’m looking to learn and grow professionally; my desire is to make $15,000 plus a month.
I have committed to watching all your videos to learn more.
I currently reside in DFW, Texas.
Once I am done watching your videos what do you recommend I do next?
Do you know anything reliable training courses in my area or companies I should look into?
Welcome to the industry. You’re in a great location to find work. Check out www.catadjuster.org. This is a great resource for finding adjusting firms to work for and also to set up a profile, so people can find you. Keep up the good work, and thanks for watching.
@@danieltheadjuster Thank you! Greatly appreciate it!
How can I get training? Why don't you do hands-on training?
Life is very busy right now. Maybe one day I will do hands-on training.
Hi Daniel I am in the process of training right now for All lines Texas In March. Thank you for your videos I am 47yrs old and changing my career. Currently in TN so I am starting a new journey.
@BookToday-un2vm That’s wonderful. Good luck on your journey, you will be very happy in the long run. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for doing this video
@winstonrobison4840 You are welcome.
Love it D.
@cliftonedwards1862 Thanks so much
I'm thinking of being an adjuster and leaving the security field. Thank you for your videos
You’re welcome, glad to help
Super informative content, thanks!!
Anytime
Daniel thanks for the information, I work in the Raleigh Area, I see an increase of claims base on friends getting jobs from adjusters. I am in the construction business and I am looking for adjusters to work with. If you have contacts or a any information how to get to them I will appreciate it.
@@javierarevalo6020 unfortunately I don’t have any contacts because that would be a conflict of interest for me. But I’m glad that you’re in the Raleigh area. Great place to find work. Thanks for watching.
I understand thank you.
You are welcome!
Best video
Thanks
I live in Louisiana, I currently work 21 days on and 21 days off. I could totally work for free to clear that "no experience" hurdle. Although I do have plenty of roofing construction experience, sheetrock installation, and flooring installation.
That’s great, get licensed, get certified in Xactimate , Level 1 and Level 2, and I am sure you will find work. Hail season has begun.
@danieltheadjuster I REALLY appreciate your videos and your advice I currently have my adjusters license in Florida and ready to pursue in that field. I currently work in Property insurance I’m one of the trainers and I work with Xact Analysis but not the Xactimate. I’m scheduled for a 2 day class that’s coming into town in March 2024 called “X1 Xactimate: Beginner to Advanced” I’m excited, but also not sure where to start at or what to do afterwards I just know I have to start somewhere 😊
@taylarsimmons1028 So excited that you are watching my channel and enjoying it. Great idea to get XM8 training. Get on lots of rosters and check out this page for work opportunities. catadjuster.org/Classifieds.aspx To become an adjuster, you have to be persistent and thorough in your search for work opportunities. Think of it in this way.... that you are selling yourself, marketing yourself, and convincing the firms that they need to hire you over someone else. This is what you will need to do, every week, while you are looking for your break. Once the break occurs, the work seems to flow in, and then you can use this experience on your resume and sell yourself to other firms. Good luck!! Thanks for watching.
Thank you Daniel for your advice and continued help and your dedication to your channel! Much appreciated
Taylar
@taylarsimmons1028 Anytime!!
Hi - i just got back from California or land of letters .. I think my limit should be set at 19hrs or less of driving to deployment. I want to be the first to wish you a Merry Charismas. .keep up the good work .
Thank you my friend
Great video! I just passed my Florida licensing exam through Kaplan and put in my licensing application, it looks like Xactimate certification is next. Hoping 61 isnt too old to start. I do have a fair amount of software experience and experience In phone based technical assistance that I hope helps.
Absolutely not too old. You are as old as you think you are. I feel 35!! so I must be!! Welcome to the industry. You will love it.
@@danieltheadjuster Many Thanks, got a lot of homework ahead.
Good Luck
Hey Daniel! Thanks for uploading these videos. They are super informative. I am in the Chicagoland area and am currently studying and taking a course to get a DHS license. You mention a bunch of times about the "Firms" and that you can work for several firms. How many is too many to apply for and in what states should one apply? Just their home state or others as well? Thanks in advance...
Good questions. Get on as many rosters as you can tolerate, because they are kind of tedious to apply. 30 to 40 is a good start. These are nationwide firms, and they will try their best to get you work in your own State, but they are also handy for Catastrophe work.
You can always reject the work if you’re too busy
Thanks for the quick answer! Other than the nationwide adjuster firms, are there any other places to get work? What about Insurance Brokers? Also, have you done a video on how to become a producer? Thanks again!!!@@danieltheadjuster
@@montesummers1071 I have talked about being a producer in one of my videos, but I cannot remember which one. You can only talk to insurance companies directly for work if you are a Producer. Basically the same as being an Agent. You can be both an adjuster and Producer in each licensed State. You can solicit work from the smaller insurance companies as a Producer, but the bigger ones are already working through a firm. It takes A LOT of money to become a Producer/Firm.
what are some exapmples of the Adjuster Firms and what is the most effecient way to get on the Firms roster list?
Check out this website. www.catadjuster.org/Careers.aspx
This site will have the job openings and a very thorough list of adjusting firms that you can apply to to get on their roster. They have a link associated to each one that you can click.
when you accept CAT deployment, how do you haul all your gear? Do you drive to the cat area? Fly and rent all equipment once you arrive?
I always drive to the CAT Deployment. I can fit most of my equipment in a big blue tub. I can carry my ladders when I drive. I have heard of people that fly and buy their equipment there, but that is not a good use of money, because they have to get rid of it when they leave.
Daniel! Thank you so much for the information you put out for free. You are truly appreciated and you’re a true gem. I am interested in becoming an independent adjuster. I am new to your channel so forgive me if I ask questions that you have already covered. Would you recommend becoming a staff adjuster before jumping into independent adjuster? I have absolutely 0 experience in the insurance industry. All of my experience is currently in the trucking industry. Also, do you have an email address where I could contact you? Thanks so much for all you do!!
I would not start as a staff adjuster because that’s still an employee type position. Look into opportunities as a desk adjuster, as an independent. Check out www.catadjuster.org for opportunities. It’s a great industry, you will not be disappointed. Thank you for watching.
@@danieltheadjuster Thanks so much Daniel!!!
Anytime!!
55 year old female here and thinking of coming out of retirement. Is this a field for women? I don't think I want to be climbing ladders to inspect rooftops but DEFINITELY willing to travel!Would appreciate a direct no nonsense comment from you or ANY of your seasoned subscribers that ARE adjusters. Thanks so much for all your videos! I just subscribed.
Definitely opportunities for women. If you don’t want to climb roofs, there are plenty of Desk Adjuster jobs. I knew a 82 year man who was a desk adjuster. This job has no age limit.
Question. I file a claim n the adjuster came n inspect my roof. After he done n he agreed roof needs to replace everything. It’s been 2 weeks n I still haven’t got insurance approve package in mail or any phone calls. My question is how long does it’s take for insurance approval after the adjuster inspect my roof??? Thanks 🙏
It takes about 7 to 10 business days. It can take as long as three weeks to hear back from the desk adjuster. They are very busy and are not known for being very quick in returning calls.
can you choose your workload as and independent desk adjuster right away? Is there a minimum amount of claims you can accept to stay on these rosters?
As a desk adjuster, you are required to work a minimum of 60 hours a week. 10 hours a day six days a week. You really don’t have any flexibility with this.
Hello! Thank you for all the content you put out! I’m just starting my journey on becoming an IA at 35. Question: what age were you when you began? And looking at the adjuster pro site, would you recommend the pre-licensing only course, or the total package?
I started when I was about 45 years old. Age does not matter in this business.
Any pre-licensing course, would be fine. I don’t think you have to spend any more.
@@danieltheadjuster thank you!
you are welcome!
When you say Xactimate certification where do I go to obtain the cert if I plan on self teaching Xactimate through UA-cam videos?
Xactware.com
Which pre license school would you recommend I’m wanting to get my for Georgia and want to add other states after I get my residential one
I used adjuster pro. I thought they were just fine.
New subscriber here🤗 Do recommend any firms in particular for newly licensed adjusters?
Yes, I really like Alacrity or Pilot. Great firms, that care about the people.
As an indepedent adjuster once you get licensed and do the state farm option for carrier what type of claims would one get as a new adjuster applying to start as an IA? would you ge thrown straight into lets say homeowners, auto, daily a little bit of everything? I am still worried if I do everything you said and not feeling ready or not knowing what to do and messing up is that training enough?.. Loved this video by the way very helpful and informative
Thanks so much for watching, and I appreciate your questions. The last thing the carrier wants to do is to put an unseasoned Adjuster into the field without any training. He will start as a desk adjuster, they will give him lots of training, and have managers and trainers close by, helping through every step. Everyone will be in the same situation who is new, so you will not be left in the dark. The carrier’s goal is to train and teach you so that you will ready to help in every way. This goes for Auto, property, liability, and medical claims.
Once you start as an independent adjuster are your hours like 8am to 5pm like regular staff adjusters or do you makmnage your own schedule yourself to get the claims done ?
You can work as a Desk Adjuster as an Independent Adjuster and they will tell you the office hours. Typically it can be 10 hours a day, six days a week. But as an independent field adjuster, you make your own schedule, your own hours, but the work comes in by email, so you can be very busy some days, and very light other days. And a typical work week could still be six days a week. Catastrophe work, would be 60 to 100 hours a week.
I have 15 years experience working as a damage coordinator with a caterpillar dealership. I was told that there is a shortage of heavy equipment adjusters. Is there such a thing as a heavy equipment adjuster?
@topherbec7578 Absolutely!! You can specialize in heavy equipment estimates and evaluations. You still have to become an adjuster, licensing, certifications etc., but you can specialize in this type of estimating and be very successful (there is definitely a need). Use you experience to your advantage.
What sites to you recommend for learning xactimate level 1 and 2 and getting certified?
There are so many UA-cam videos out there to help you learn for free. I suggest you start watching them all. No need to pay for a course.
What if i just want to work locally. Like within 2 hours drive? Is this practical?
Of course, that’s what I do as a Daily Adjuster. But you got to get the experience first.
Hello, I am a TN independent License P/C and appointed with X insurance CO and planning to be a adjuster. That shouldn't be a conflict having both licenses.?
@reinaldodones1398 no you can have as many licenses as you want.
Producer licenses are just stacked on top of independent licenses. One just gives you the ability to sell insurance, or become an adjusting firm, whereas an independent license, does not allow you to operate as a firm or sell insurance.
What kind of vehicle do you have or maybe recommend when being a field adjuster? I heard it's a lot of driving.
You can use any vehicle, that is gas efficient. I have a Toyota Highlander. I got about 21 miles per gallon. It is perfect. I strongly recommend staying away from a big 8 cylinder truck.
@@danieltheadjuster haha so true, I actually just sold my truck to downsize into something more fuel efficient. I'm definitely a fan of Toyota! Highlander is a great vehicle.
I want to rv the USA and can stay anywhere. Is it like travel nursing 🤔
@winstonrobison4840 I believe it would be similar. The only down side for catastrophe work is that it is not full time all the time. There are gaps between events and you probably cannot stay on the road full time. Kinda exhausting too.
Is there a fee associated with the Carrier Specific Training?
@knowledge15king Yes, typically I think they do, but definitely worth it. Prices may have changed, so check it out with each firm that provides this type of training.
Should someone brand new with no experience get the TX, IN, or FL license, and xactimate training on their own before having a job? Does having that help to get you in door even when you haven't handled a claim before? I guess I am confused on getting these licenses and training without actually ever having done the work then applying to a firm. Wouldn't one need to go get hired by an insurance company to actually do desk work and field work first?
@liquidGold79 Very good question
Let me explain it this way. It’s no different than if you were going to college for four years. You would get all your training, education, build your résumé, and apply for the job. It’s no different in the adjusting world. Get as many licenses as you can afford, since this looks really good on a résumé, and it makes it look like you’re prepared for any storm event, get your level one and two certification for Xactimate, get as many certifications for carriers, like State Farm, Prepare an excellent résumé, then apply to as many firms as possible. They will look at your résumé, see that you are prepared, and give you an opportunity. With none of this on your résumé, it’s no different than a high school dropout trying to apply for corporate position, with no education or training.
@@danieltheadjuster Ok, thanks. So all the licenses and certifications look good on the resume to get you on with firms. Would one know how to adjust a claim if deployed by a firm without ever having done it? Does the training from say, Adjusterpro, actually prepare you to do the job by yourself for first time?
Now if one was trying to not start IA route but wanted a staff position, would it still be beneficial to do all training and licensing on your own before applying? Or do companies prefer you come in green and they provide all that?
Hi Daniel I’m in CA, worked in auto claims for the last 6 years .
Main accounts USSA and Statefarm.
Any advice on how i can go on my own.?
You’ve got a ton of experience. Just get your résumé over to a bunch of Adjuster firms, and see what happens. They will probably scoop you up.
Thank you for responding.
First step get my License right?
Do you recommended forming an LLC first?
@@staymad6900 An LLC is not necessary. You are just working under your name as a 1099 contractor. Get listed on lots of rosters, get your resume updated, and follow up with them weekly for opportunities.
is the state exam questions similar to the ones in the licensing courses?
There are some policy questions that are so are going to be similar.. Generally speaking, State exams are going to teach you policy and similar information from State to State.
@@danieltheadjuster thank you for the heads up and quick response
Sure, anytime!
Hello. I’m new to your channel. I am currently an adjuster with a specific insurance company. How do I get into being a independent adjuster?
Start getting yourself listed on numerous adjusting firm rosters, and then when an opportunity arises, you will need to quit your employed position and start working for the firms. Make sure that you have lots of licenses as well. Sometimes the carrier will allow you to work under their licenses.
@@danieltheadjuster thank you so much for your reply. Will the adjuster license carried be sufficient as it was obtained through my current carrier? Or is there another adjuster license for independent?
@shedaboo3158 no the carrier is the one with the license, and you’re just working under them. When you become an independent, you have to license yourself.
If I live in Cali, can I take an online adjusting program for Texas?
@rexSantaAna420 You have to get your home State license first. This is the requirement. The only way that you can get out of this is if your State does not have a license. Unfortunately CA does.
@@danieltheadjuster Wow, that was a quick reply. Thanks so much
@rexSantaAna420 You are welcome. Glad to help! Thanks for watching.
@danieltheadjuster I do water damage restoration and to be quite frank it's hard to get our employer to teach us xsactimate. This opportunity will help me with that and increase my income 🙏 I hope I make it to the end on this one. Blessings!
@rexSantaAna420 I would learn Xactimate on the side in your free time and get your Level 1 and 2 Certifications. This will allow you to go self-employed and make tons more cash! Never let anyone or anything hold you back!
