We speculate the reason Layne stopped singing during those parts was to help Jerry build confidence in his own voice as he was struggling with being insecure using it.
Yea you could see Layne look to Jerry to allow him to take lead
Exactly and it was a smart choice cause it made the song more dynamic
Most people that dont want to admit that its a LOT more likely due to the affects that drg usage had had on his voice/body would be the more likely choice.
@@steves.6519if you watch the whole performance of unplugged. Layne was high as a kite. Not knocking it. God rest his soul.
Probably always going to be my favorite band of all time, and this just might be their #1 power ballad.
0:19 "Woo! I'm ready to rock! 🤘"
0:50 "😢"
RIP Layne.
May your wings never be denied.
I love this comment 💗🥺
Layne pushed/ encouraged Jerry to sing more. Together they blend so well. They are my favorite band of all time. And this show, I own the DVD, but it's sad and scary to watch, especially when it first aired, he was a reflection of his former self, and though this is a great performance, IT'S NOT HIS BEST. 😢😊
You could sense Layne's beautiful soul in this performance. My favorites are -It Ain't Like That -I Can't Remember and - Would?
I love Jerry and his contributions to Alice in Chains (there wouldnt be a AIC if there was no Jerry). His solo work is amazing. If you havent heard it, checkout his song "Solitude"
lol would be no aic without layne
@@kmslates1973I mean sure but Jerry was still the founder of the band and the primary songwriter, without Jerry AIC is dead forever, without Layne they’ve still had a good and successful career. Layne still ruled tho but Jerry was always the driving force of the band
Lane was reported to be very insecure during this performance. he was aware of the lisp he had developed from losing his teeth. You are right, he was struggling. But despite his discomfort, he blew most singers out of the water on their best days.
he had teeth, they may not have been in the best condition but he had teeth, i don’t know why people keep spreading this myth
@@tommywright2487 He had lost many teeth, and the ones he had left were rotted to stubs. It was so bad he had a clear lisp.
@@Please_Dont_Call_It_Frisco there’s literally photos of him after this show and you can see his whole top front row of teeth. Who even told you he had no teeth?
@@tommywright2487 Are you talking about the Letterman photo? Those yellow stubs are hardly teeth.
@@Please_Dont_Call_It_Frisco like i said, not in the best condition, but regardless he still had his teeth. stop saying he had no teeth.
When you were talking about Layne's energy during this performance, which is heavy and despairing, it's for good reason---he was nearly toothless, in a death spiral of addiction, high while performing THIS song, on Mtv Unplugged. It's a man singing at his own funeral. Edit: I finished your reaction, and I commented too soon: your eyes filling with tears says you probably know all of the above. I cry every time I watch this....it hurts. RIP, Layne....your wings are no longer denied. ❤
Wonderful job. This is my favorite AIC live performance
This is probably my favorite reaction to this. The photos of Jerry and the breakdown of his and Layne's vocals styles was really cool. Learned a lot!
R.I.P Layne
2:28 Jerry is so cute💗 Honestly AiC is one of the best bands out there 🤘
He was super nice too! :)
One of my favorites of all time!!!!🤘🤘
Jerry is one of the best songwriters to ever live, amazing solo discography too, degradation trip vol1&2 is a masterpiece. Shame nobody reacts to solo Jerry.
Layne had blues, grunge and only his style.. thrown into his singing. Best grunge singer, one of the best singers of All time, any genre!!
I always assumed Layne was dope-sick for his performance and still killed it.
Great reaction! Layne is hunched with that monkey on his back
Layne's brilliance came from his pain. We felt it in his hauntingly, beautiful voice. May he be in peace.
Love hate love live at the Moore is a must
❤❤❤
I'm so glad you caught the growl before "You don't understand" and sang it just like him lol I always thought that was a nice texture he added to the note that usually goes unnoticed by most.
Lane was dopesick as hell in this performance. Dude was a straight up junkie. It's amazing he was able to perform in that state and also insanely sad
If you haven't done the first song of the set yet, please do. Nutshell
"See my heart I decorate it like a grave"
Damn, either you're short or Jerry is taller than I thought
Love AIC and Layne😢 . You should react to another bands frome that time like Soundgarden with Chris Cornell on vocal , his solo stuff was awesome too .
Layne fixed before he walked out on stage. People thinks he was sick but he was just high.
Well, I don't think so cause he didn't look or sounded "high". Also, his addiction is the least important thing about his legacy.
@TheStepmonkey it's actually documented that he had a vile of "pre-cooked" gear on him and was witnessed getting high. So yes, he was high. People who use have a tolerance they may not necessarily look "high" but they are not sick anymore..I don't care who you are no "junkie" would be able to perform while being dope sick.
I guess im just going to have to sub to your channel now. We just chatted about Eddie Vedder and "Black" knowing about Layne and being a hung 90s junkie. He was probably doped up here. Hate to say it, but if you watch the whole performance then you will see what i mean. Love those unplugged days with "head bangers ball" when MTV actually played music instead of teens getting knocked up and being proud of it. What a turn in 30 years.. Also "Down in a hole" can be interpret a countless ways. I think he was talking about himself, like Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain and Scott Weiland did in their music respectivily. Also " i will breathe no more of my feelings beneath". In the audio verison " i will speak no more of my feelings beneath.
Layne you re so missed……❤
I don't feel bothered by the way he's singing, Not everyone needs to be the same, everyone feels music in a different way. People think that to sing you have to be extroverted but that's a big lie!
please, can you react a chris cornell song??? ❤
I LOVE ALICE IN CHAINS!! HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT THE BAND MAD SEASON? LAYNE IS FRONTMAN AND MIKE FREAKIN MCCREADY FROM PEARL JAM. I SUGGEST "WAKE UP" OR "LONG GONE DAY" FEATURING MARK LANEGAN. BLUESY. AWESOME REACTION MY DEAR!! 😊🩷🤘✌️🔥🔥🔥
Yes! I remember loving the song "River of Deceit!" Haven't heard the other ones you mentioned though, I'll have to check those out. :)
AIC unplugged ruined it for me as the level of emotion in this set trumps any studio version of any of these songs....esp this one....it puts the recorded version to shame
Layne had recently cut his hair shorter. After which, the band Metallica all cut their hair. Well, as they were getting ready to walk out on stage, they were informed Metallica would be sitting in the front row that night. So Layne said “Gimme a Sharpie!” And he wrote “Friends don’t let friends get friends haircuts” on that guitar.
Your story is so false. Mike was the one who wrote that on his bass and he did it to mock the metallica guys because they all had a haircut. Layne had nothing to do with the joke and he actually had his hair short since 1991.
jerry has good voice, but doesn't come close to Layne, Layne up with greatest rock voices ever
