12:21 Cool Spot's voices are so dang cute! The fact that the Genesis version has more of them already makes it a winner for me but I also prefer this version's higher resolution (better screen shape and wider playfield) as well as the awesome music!

Dorian Scott in some cases I would agree with you IE: Spider-Man & X-Men in Arcade's Revenge, Super Street Fighter 2, Revolution X, Prince of Persia, Genghis Kahn II, etc. But in other cases IE: Mortal Kombat, Cool Spot, Wanderers From Y's, etc. the Genny version absolutely destroys its competition. Cool Spot's soundtrack sounds so much better on the Genny, plus it has sound effects that the SNES version is missing. Proof that in the hands of a brilliant composer, one truly can do wonders with the Zilog Z80.
Ha, nicely done. Love the twist ending. Also, fun fact: Cool Spot on Game Boy was a McDonald's game in Europe. Like, the game is identical, except it's all McDonald's iconography instead of 7up.

Great comparison video! I had this game on genesis, bought it from blockbuster. Sweet controls great soundtrack, it was amazing how licensed games were great back then. I gave it a chance because of Aladdin being made by Virgin games haha
Something you forgot to mention about the sound: the bonus levels on the Sega Genesis version start with a revving up intro! You don't get that on the Super Nintendo version!

the sprite spark appearing in front of objects as an item hidden behind an object is collected is a nice touch on the S.N.E.S. but it doesnt make more known an item is obtained unless the sound is muted. that point by Nintendo is so weak. collected items showing the points dusapate like soda bubbles in the Genesis version is slso a nice feature. opponents respawning when you respawn in the S.N.E.S version just makes for a good challenge, thats a good thing but it is true that not respawning helps show where you havent been when you havent memorized the playingfield. achieving the ending of different ending when beating the game through a different difficulty setting is a good thing. i like games that do that. the Genesis controls should have incorporated the A button like the S.N.E.S. does the R button. a few other noticeable differences not mentioned in the video. :: the S.N.E.S. version allows the virgin logo to be fiddled with. the S.N.E.S. cages that Spot guys are locked in fluctuates. the Genesis cages dont. if the cages in the Genesis version are shot without the minimum amount of spot tokens collected a big Spot hand will appear pointing back indicating to the player more 7-up tokens are required before the cage can be opened. after losing a turn the S.N.E.S. version has Cool Spot stand up with his arms up and say "yeah!" the Genesis version has Cool Spot dust off himself when stating a new try. the S.N.E.S. Spot doesnt. the background boat on the S.N.E.S. has the radars spinning on top of the ship. the Genesis ship doesnt. Spot will attach to the ropes, wires and laces when jumping on them in the Genesis version but the S.N.E.S. requires UP to be pressed. this may be just a difference in preference for some people but most people will think it sucks, because it does suck. fortunately nothing to ruin the game. the lilly pads on the Genesis version dont show water movement around the edges but they will flex when Spot lands on them. the S.N.E.S. lilly pads dont flex. although the S.N.E.S. has bubbles floating up on the bonus stage, the Genesis features condensation drops sliding down. pipes leak in da wall on the Genesis version, S.N.E.S. pipes dont. Genesis has two radios on the beach. the S.N.E.S. has sunglasses and a bottle of sunblock. the S.N.E.S. check point flag appears on the pole and the Genesis version raises up to the top. those are just a few more among other various differences. the Genesis version having the wider playing field and IMO better control scheme for clinging to ropes & wires makes this a tie of the two versions in IMO. music in both are good but i prefer the Genesis music. fun fact: when in development for the Mega Drive reigns theres no 7up logo on the bottle seen in the suffering introduction but instead an S.O.S. note inside, presumably done to remove reference to 7up because in Europe Fido Dido is the mascot of 7up. also, a Fido Dido prototype for the Mega Drive is available to play.
I had this game on Genesis and was a big fan of the musics. Later, like ten years later, I played the SNES version expecting it to be better just like the French magazines were always saying at the time. And I was surprised NOT to enjoy the same way as I did on Mega Drive in my childhood, for the exact reasons you mentioned : boring, hard, respawning of enemies, missing music at the end of stage, missing "bruitages", and the music I loved on Mega Drive was so muffled on SNES, you know, the console that everyone in the world worships for its divine music... okay, yeah... but definitely not with Cool Spot. Excellent analysis which went beyond my expectations. Really, thank you very much, guys. You have won a follower. Great job !

I was worried January 2018 was just gonna be a waste of time. "Let's check out UA-cam. A new Console Wars, sweet!" Now January was totally worth it. Thanks again guys for your hard work to give a great episode.
Both companies were great and they both had their ups and downs, good example: The Road Rash series for Sega couldn't of been imagined on Super Nintendo but Donkey Kong Country was a very high time for it though they incorporated Silicon Graphics to make it.
It's an action-platformer from the 90s. Started on Sega Genesis I believe before being ported to SNES. Boogerman: The Pick and Flick Adventure. I never played it myself but it's one of those games with a really weird concept and grotesque humor so it stood out from the crowd.
I was gonna call it out as well. I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't Boogerman. Although I don't really remember much about it on the SNES as I only played it on Genesis.

Genesis version is way better, so much so I rage quit the snes version. Level 4 with cropped view is awful.
Both companies were great and they both had their ups and downs, good example: The Road Rash series for Sega couldn't of been imagined on Super Nintendo but Donkey Kong Country was a very high time for it
though they incorporated Silicon Graphics to make it.

Jason, what is Boogerman?
It's an action-platformer from the 90s. Started on Sega Genesis I believe before being ported to SNES. Boogerman: The Pick and Flick Adventure. I never played it myself but it's one of those games with a really weird concept and grotesque humor so it stood out from the crowd.
I was gonna call it out as well. I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't Boogerman. Although I don't really remember much about it on the SNES as I only played it on Genesis.
