Road mesh? The road mesh in this, is a single flat plane about 9x9 polygons dense. That has APPARENT thickness and detail, using Heightmaps (for world displacement) and Normal maps (even, parallax occlusion can be used!).. This simple plane, is then arrayed along a spline. !!! You can have multiple 'planes' with different shapes/details/and material properties! You can pick where each goes 'down the road'.. Try this, go into the Mountain button/Tab (upper left) find the Manage tool and splines, find where SM_Road_a is 'attached' to the landscape spline, a drop down list (everything in Unreal is Modular!) and pick a different 3D object, I selected a bed by accident, suddenly, the FREEWAY, BECAME AN ETERNALLY LONG BUNK BED, LIKE A TWO LEVEL FREEWAY/WALKWAY OF WOODEN SLATS! I understood instantly, and at last, what spline roads were and what they could mean,. Not I just need yo learn how to 'randomize' placement of things along the way! ALL THE BEST TOOLS HAVE 'SILENT BOB' TUTORIALS, IT IS SO DAMN FRUSTRATING!
One 'road' etc, or the other would have to be 'on top' at the actual transition but you can always add a 'railway mat' (those hard black rubber things they have as road transitions)..
