    Hope you continue to feel better. I lived in Eastern Kentucky for 19 years on a 80 acre farm. Raised burley tobacco. Some great years on that farm! I was given a sour dough starter that I kept feeding and making bread from for a long time. Don't remember what happened to that recipe! It is definitely something learned and a lot of trial and error. You'll get it right again!

      Thank you! Really?! That is so cool! Yes it is, when I first started it I didn't realize it would be so much trial and error.

    Try using your Berjey filtered water instead of water from the tap.

    My parents were really sick a couple weeks ago and I felt so bad. I am on a chemo drug for my Rheumatoid Arthritis and has been praying that we don’t get anything. I don’t think I could handle it. But yeah you have to recover with just the minimum. Hugs lady.

    My sourdough starter is used more for discard recipes. I seriously get annoyed with the process of making sourdough bread and the time. My schedule just doesn’t allow for it. I feel like any fermentation In recipes is better than none. 😂 Your fridge looks great in the kitchen. I grew up in the eighties and nineties and that’s what is considered vintage today. That was the common fridges for them. Today they are so fancy. Even if you didn’t get an older fridge yours look great. I might have missed this but do y’all have a dairy cow? If so, any advice. My hubby and I have cattle but we don’t have any dairy cows. My goal is to have one this coming year.

      I love using mine for discard recipes. I've never had any issues using the discard. Yes I totally agree, something is better than nothing! Thank you! We do we have a Jersey heifer. We just got her about a month ago. I honestly don't know much at all we are just learning as we go. We still have to breed her and won't get milk from her for about a year or so until she calves. If you don't know what breed dairy cow you want I would start there first. We chose to go with a jersey because they produce a higher cream to milk ratio than others.

    Ocident bread flour is what i buy from our Amish stores and it's all in use. My sourdough loves it. ❤ I've gone weeks without feeding it, just left it in the fridge. Get it out, feed it 1 or 2 time with that flour and it springs back to life

    • @LewisAcresHomestead
      @LewisAcresHomestead  11 місяців тому +1

      I used to get occident flour from our amish community but then they started offering the organic flour so we switched. If it doesn't continue to do good then I may have to switch back.

      @@LewisAcresHomestead sometimes it needs a little bit to adjust to your new flour. My cousin switched from klKing Arthur to the ocident and ahe said it took probably 2 weeks before it started even attempting to get happy. Now after a month her sourdough is back to being super bubbly and happy. I know mine just went through a phase where my yeast was doing great but then my bread wasn't rising like it should. Once it got use to this woodstove heat, my bread started taking right off. Sourdough is normally pretty easy to use, but sometimes the environment makes it act up. Lol.

    I just love your kitchen. I don’t blame you for wanting to hang out there all day. 🥰 I’ve watched all your videos but now that I’m doing my own full house renovation I’m wondering if you mentioned your paint color for the white walls? Would you be so kind as to mention it again. Thanks.

    One problem I say that you're doing wrong is you're adding tap water and it depends if that tap water has chlorine from the city or not. Or country or if you're on a whale, then it should be good, but if it has any kind of chlorine in it that will kill any yeast effect of your dough.

    It's cold now, today started out at 6 degrees, in SE Missouri. It's 3:30pm and 20 degrees, sunny out, but 56 degrees in the bedroom with the heat on. I always eat a medium bowl of bran flakes, no raisens, they hurt my stomach and a cup of soy milk. Before becoming Vegan, I ate 2 fried eggs, 4 slices of turkey bacon, a glass of orange juice, 2 slices of bread, real butter and orange marmalade jam. I've learned that oj is almost poison to diabetics. The fruit is better. Yes, I'm borderline diabetic. It's not sugar, its the pancreas. Just be real careful with sugar, tho, especially molasses and honey. Right now, I use Stevia, in my tea. Have not experimented with baking with it. Also, I've been cow's milk intolerant for 50 yrs. Now, being Vegan, not to worry, just drink soy. Soy has 8 grams of plant protein per cup. Almond milk has on 1 gram of plant protein per cup. I read ingredients on packaging when I shop. Thanks again...e

    Great vid. So glad your feeling better. So many people are saying this stuff is nasty. Do you know about how many cords of wood you use a year? Wood is very expensive where I live. We use a regular wood stove and burn about 2-3 cord (for heat only) a year.

    • @LewisAcresHomestead
      @LewisAcresHomestead  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes it is! We seem to finally be over it now, thankfully. I had to google what a cord of wood is we measure by a rick of wood but we go through about 30 ricks each winter and I think that would be 10 cords.

    • @Diane-sx8mf
      @Diane-sx8mf 11 місяців тому

      @@LewisAcresHomestead I have no words. That is sooo much wood. I can’t even imagine!!! Wood here is about $175 a cord if you buy logs to cut and split or up to $500 a cord for dry, cut and split.

    How often do you have to restock the wood stove? We had one growing up and I felt like my dad was always tending to it! Just makes me think of cold winter nights if you have you go outside!

    • @LewisAcresHomestead
      @LewisAcresHomestead  11 місяців тому

      We fill it up in the morning and before bed. If it is an extremely cold day then we will fill it at lunch also. Thankfully we don't have to go out in the middle of the night!
