Reading this comment gave me flashbacks to watching the Fletcher Superman cartoons on DVD as a kid. Not only was that my first introduction to Superman, but one of my early exposures to the comic book superhero genere. That and Spectacular Spider-Man
I don’t like the “tech” look so much as I like a more woven pattern. I like when it’s more like a traditional superhero costume but with some added stitching, maybe some padding or a minor amount of texture. Batman Noel is about as busy as I like a charater like Batman to look but I also love that suit, Gotham by gaslight as well. It feels real world without being cliched “real world version”. It’s still fantastical, it’s still a guy in a costume rather than body armour, but it’s still close enough to the classic cape and cowl hero-in-tights aesthetic.
When it is characters with no outright superpowers (I.E. Batman, Green Arrow, Daredevil, etc) I want them to look as armored as possible, because is drives home the fact that they are just people in a fancy suit. But with characters like Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, etc, whose own skin is stronger than most conventional armor, I like it to look more spandex-y and for lack of a better word ‘comic-book-y’.
As someone that doesn't care about Batman outside of the Arkham series, i am just waiting for them to do an Arkham Origins Batman now (cause he has my favorite default suit), just hope they don screw up the arms again
I like the panelling look on figures. It gives them an updated look with interesting texture to look at instead of just spandex stretched out impossibly to define every single muscle.
That's crazy, because I love The New 52 costumes. They look more realistic & reasonable to fighting. Those old school suits that y'all nostalgia heads love so much, makes me think of the cheap costumes you'd buy at an adult Halloween costume shop like Ricky's during Halloween or on Amazon. That stuff reflects the Adam West batman. Too old & outdated. How is that material suppose to stop a bullet?
It doesn't have to be "techy" but I like suit designs with more stuff going on than just a smooth uniform. The Batfleck suit is a good example, they textured it and made seams in places to make it look more interesting than just a grey suit.
If you have characters who are basically humans (Batman, Nightwing, Moon Knight, Daredevil) I prefer a utilitarian look. Something that seems to be made for a fighter who might need to protect himself from blades, bullets etc. But with the likes of Spider-Man or Superman I like the smooth look better. They are either invulnerable to almost any physical harm or have super-powers that make it easier to avoid being injured. However, my biggest pet peeve is dressing fighter/warrior types in spandex. To my mind the likes of Thor, Hercules, Wonder Woman should be wearing some sort of armor. Yes, they are deities and are almost unkillable but ther represent warrior cultures and armor has been used as a status symbol in pretty much every such culture throughout human history. Plus they ofter fight against other mythological beings who can realistically hurt them so divine armor makes sense. That's why my favourite looks for Thor are the ones from the latter parts of Simonson's and Jurgens' runs.
Other than not having the purple on the cape I love the figure. It really captures capullo’s art really well. I have a few of his figures from dc collectibles from a long time ago. He’ll fit nicely with them.
I genuinely like this Batman design & picked this figure up, but something about the look of it kept me from opening it. It just looked odd to me. But ya, like you said, it's mainly the small torso. The head & neck also look off to me from the front. I do usually like 'tech detail' on costumes and even on this specific design, but I don't like the way it was executed on this figure at all. It just doesn't look right. I was hoping your review would give me a reason to open it, but you've only confirmed all the odd things going on with this figure. I am glad that you're reviewing more McFarlane DC Multiverse figures though! Your expertise is sorely needed, especially when it comes to this line.
DC has so many characters, why so many Batmans. Can we get more variety. McFarlane needs to give us more Teen Titans, Young Justice or Justice League cartoon characters. I'm also tired of seeing wave 1 figures that for some reason don't go on sale. Its hard to find certain characters so I pre order them from Bigbadtoystore.
I'm impartial both are nice when done right i always liked the way jim lee handled both the new 52 panels and the classic smooth designs as seen in hush

Got the whole wave, I thought this would be the least interesting, but I absolutely loved it when I opened it. It has such a unique style, and the figure feels so different in hand than it looks like it would be in pictures.

I usually lean more towards the techy looks. I just really like seeing artist's variations on classics. I have a huge soft spot for all the Play Arts Kai variants for that.

I just bought the Dc multi universe action batman Black version ..but I kind of like this one better. Would you say this ones the best of the Mcfarlane series. I think so.

I prefer something in between like how Batman looks in the cover for detective comics #1000/the default suit in all of the Batman Arkham games or Spider-Man in more recent comics and also the classic suit from PS4 for most characters but then for people like Superman that costume shouldn't be armored at all it should just be cloth. Another good example would be the Daredevil and Ultimate Alliance 3 which is a mixture of his traditional costume and the Netflix season 2 costume.
I have issues with the left thigh on mine as well. Not just the split but it falls off the ball peg every time I move it. It pops back on easily but as soon as I try to pose him it just falls off again.
At least yours doesn’t have two right hands like mine ended up getting. Lol. I’m trying to find anywhere that has a hand that would fit with the figure.
@@MistaJonz I got a Batman: grim knight with a broken foot joint. I messaged McFarlane toys about getting a replacement joint, they just sent me a brand new figure. I got lucky with that one, so not really sure I want to push my luck with messaging them again. Lol.

i prefer a mix of it. not too panel-y and weirdly metallic like the new 52, but more along the lines of young justice s1 and 2, where they had classic-ish looks with minimal panel lines to imply more than just spandex.
Not a bad figure foe the price point and McFarlane Toys are trying but they still have a long way to go. More range on the articulation, specially the head going up and the torso going forward. I also can't understand (other then Mr. Todd throwing a fit) why they choose to use single joints on some of their thinner arms and legs when they could easily implement double joints vastly increasing the range on both the elbows and knees. The scale is also something that needs work, the Merciless should be smaller, the Doomsday Batman should be bigger (the BAF should have been Doomsday Batman that way both characters could've been on the right scale) and some other characters scale is also way off. Good overall sculpt (besides some pre-posing sculpt that I'm almost sure Mr. Todd tries to include every time no one's looking) and paint but that can always improve, it goes without saying (even though I'm saying it). I’m diggin the "panel" look personally. I have a question that I hope u might answer. Is there a type of paint that will stick to the cape? I painted some “blood” on the face and in the tears of his suit and would like to paint the inside of the cape purple. I pretty much know for a fact that my acrylics will crack and not stick well at all. Is there a way to seal the acrylic or a different kind of paint that would work?
I gotta say I'm a sucker for techy designs but that's because I grew up with hero movies and the transformers movies and not with comic books and very few cartoons. But I do know that there are times when it can go too far.
At this point the articulation gripes with Mcfarlane figures are becoming quite consistent. No forward torso movement, limited upper thigh articulation, can't look up, and potential diaper splits. If they could address that in 2021 that would be super.....man. I like panel/seam lines and texture. I find it aesthetically please. Like don't go overboard like they did with Superman new52. Just make make the costumes look like skin with they aren't. In action figures/statues it also gives the light something to grab. Though the caveat there is a I prefer sculpted panels. The Hasbro let's use paint apps for everything doesn't work.
I think Capullo is a great artist but his Batman design really doesn't translate very well to action figure/3D. IMO that cowl looks ridiculous and the whole thing has some very awkward proportions. Even without taking aspects that are more flaws in the figure such a those, I'm not a fan of that bat symbol or the purple cape. It'd be cool to get Mafex to attempt a Capullo Batman and add their own spin.
That side profile of the head is very Space Ghost. I want to like the tech plates but the way it's done here, it looks so much like it was a bad 3D print to me.
if they would make it so their figures could lean forward more, I would be at least feeling a little bit less irritated bc I genuinely like the rest of the stuff they're doing. oh and a thigh swivel would be great.

Techy stuff looks good on batman, its more grounded in reality. If i saw a superhero prowling the streets at night in spandex with a pair of briefs on over his trousers, i would piss myself laughing. I get why people want the "classic" look, but dressed like that it would be hard to take them seriously
I absolutely hate how McFarlane does the build a figure with the same characters already released...like I don’t need 2 death metal Batman’s or 2 bat who laughs but I have to get them in order to BAF🤦♂️
I’m a big fan of this style of suit. I could do without the techy looking chest symbol. Also yellow on Batman never made sense since he supposed to be Hidden in the streets
It depends on the character, but I generally prefer more classic style suits with some texturing to make it look a little more modern and refined than straight up spandex. I don't like bogging down iconic, simple designs with unnecessary detail. Every new design I see seems like they're trying so hard to make superheroes not look like superheroes. Or they just need to add some kind of pizzazz. Like they're afraid to just do the regular costume. In the New 52 they made Superman look like a goddamn Nazi officer. I'm not against changing things up, but the new designs to me never seem inspired. They seem like they were designed by committee to be superhero enough to fit into the genre, but also different enough from superheros that it would make people who don't think superheros are cool want to read the books.
As expected from someone who always bragging about "breaking" the sculpt and mocking articulation in an action figure, but still making it anyway, even though they most definitely can do a LOT better, but chose not to. As for your QOTD I like it has some panel, techy looks to the suit as long as it's not overdone.
all they had to do was make this figure fun to pose and they failed. I guess all the Dark Nights: Metal Batman fans might be happy with a vanilla pose on the shelf, but, McFarlane could win over a lot of us with better articulation.
Anyone know where to get extra hands that fit these McFarlane DC figures. My version on this figure came with two right hands for both his hands. Really works great to try holding his axes in either hand. Lol. 😂
I own two of these figures and today at Target I saw this package with a different Batman in it not this Batman. I examined the package for tempering and nothing. A mistake made at manufacturing.

There wasn't an arkham city Joker, it was his look from Asylum but Cuty was basically just the same design with battle damage.

I like the advanced look. It makes it look more utilitarian. It makes the suit look useful and not just a costume.
I like both plane and paneled suits. So long as there is balance between the two I have no complaints.

When I first saw the windswept cape, the upper trunk & the yellow, I knew highest rate would be 7/10, lol!

I like this batman, is so Cappulo style, i think this figure close to cappulo artstyle and i like that headsculpt. 🥰

His head looks a bit small. Optical illusion probably. Tech suits are cool, but i still prefer normal suits or full armors.

It depends on the character, but I generally prefer more classic style suits with some texturing to make it look a little more modern and refined than straight up spandex. I don't like bogging down iconic, simple designs with unnecessary detail. Every new design I see seems like they're trying so hard to make superheroes not look like superheroes. Or they just need to add some kind of pizzazz. Like they're afraid to just do the regular costume. In the New 52 they made Superman look like a goddamn Nazi officer. I'm not against changing things up, but the new designs to me never seem inspired. They seem like they were designed by committee to be superhero enough to fit into the genre, but also different enough from superheros that it would make people who don't think superheros are cool want to read the books.
As expected from someone who always bragging about "breaking" the sculpt and mocking articulation in an action figure, but still making it anyway, even though they most definitely can do a LOT better, but chose not to. As for your QOTD I like it has some panel, techy looks to the suit as long as it's not overdone.

As a Greg Capullo fan, man I wanted to get this but yeah some parts of it tells me to stay away from it.
all they had to do was make this figure fun to pose and they failed. I guess all the Dark Nights: Metal Batman fans might be happy with a vanilla pose on the shelf, but, McFarlane could win over a lot of us with better articulation.

Anyone know where to get extra hands that fit these McFarlane DC figures. My version on this figure came with two right hands for both his hands. Really works great to try holding his axes in either hand. Lol. 😂

I own two of these figures and today at Target I saw this package with a different Batman in it not this Batman. I examined the package for tempering and nothing. A mistake made at manufacturing.
