Just a poor white boy from S. GA but for the last 10 years (mas y minos) I've been working on my cocina skills. I've seen hours of Carnitas video from travel shows and hours of people showing how to do it at home. This looked and from the recipe seemed the closest to all those done in the giant copper pots. Using the sholder cut and the belly meat with skin separately was a great technique to achieve the sortido combination of textures and flavors. Just Great!
I, "Tinman," (Oliveoyl is from the Philippines), was born in Tijuana Mexico but my parents are from Jalisco, Volcanes and Talpa de Allende. My grandfather made the best Birria. When he was living in Tijuana he was contracted for weddings and quinceaneras, that kind of thing. Many people confuse barbacoa and birria. Birria is from that part of Mexico, stove top, Barbacoa is southern, more Mayan with a pit, "pib." I'm sure you know. Thank you.
Almost exactly as I’ve been doing. I learned something from a restaurant owner they put their onions in halved and aggressively brown them in the cut off pork fat first before browning the meat. Apparently it adds “the copper pot seasoning flavor”. Carnitas is love!
I remember being a kid in Mexico and mom and dad take us to go get like the red marinaded chicken fresh from the grill and purple onion pickled in lime juice. I will be make this recipe in my wife’s instant pot since I use it more then she does. I used to make them deep fried for a long time this easier and healthier. Thanks for the recipes.
Just going over this video again to buy some stuff for it. One local dish from St. Louis, Missouri "invented" here is Gooey Butter cake. Simply fabulous. We all grew up on it.
Great recipe, now I know how I’m cooking the thawed pork but that’s in the fridge. I’m also going to make your pickled red onions to go with it.... Your hair is so adorable!
Yeah…Singapore’s signature dish is Hainanese Chicken Rice. I have yet to meet anyone from around the world who has tried it and said they don’t like it. It’s usually instant addiction! I look forward to trying your Carnitas recipe. Thanks for sharing
This recipe is so killer! Thank you so much! I used all pork shoulder and tangerine instead of oranges, turned out great! I also reduced the juice from the pressure cooker down and added some of that magic to the pork before I browned it in the oven. I like everything extra juicy and extra salty, so I would not recommend that move to everyone. Thanks again!
I don’t love cooking videos but love cooking. Your video was so informative and fun! The zoom ins and split screen was so helpful. I can’t wait to make this recipe and am excited to check out other recipes/videos.

I had forgot what an adorable couple you two are. You remind me of a younger version of my beloved spouse. My poor spouse doesn't have such a sweet person like Nelson but I do my best.
Carnitas has been one of my favorite foods ever. But I have never made them myself and I had a mother that didn't make or know-how. I decided to make my own and I bought it an instant pot and today Wiz result of my Carnitas dream. I have to say, with your recipe, they came out really good and probably the best I ever had. Now I would say that's pretty good since this was my first time. I also confess I've never had anybody's homemade before, just restaurant style. Thanks so much👍
Guess what? I made this carnitas, thanks, first of all. Carnitas Came out great 😊, I sometimes like to eat them in a torta! Just meat and salsa in a crunchy bolillo, this so far the best recipe, the color of the carnitas is great 😋😋😋,we used a ninja foodie, my cooking style, quick and few ingredients, is my turn to cook for my wife on the weekends, great help from you 🙏🙏!
It is near impossible to get real Mexican food in my country. This recipe is outstanding. If this is what Mexican food tastes like, I definitely need to save up and visit.
These look amazing. I absolutely love the skin from pork. My mom used to boil the hocks and make this gelatinous bowl of the meat with carrots and spices. The water from the hocks would become like jello when cooled. It’s a Polish dish called Garaleta. I loved to eat it with boiled potatoes. I don’t have an instant pot but I’m sure I cold bake the carnitas in the oven. Can’t wait to try this recipe out. And yes your hair looks beautiful!!!

Wow, awesome recipe that way simplifies the process and achieves great carnitas. Rick Bayliss will be jealous. Well done and thank you for sharing. Love how you present your videos and the family stories. Please keep up your videos! Kind regards, Steve (66yrs) Manitoba Canada
I just made this today, and although I made some mistakes (put in 4 cloves garlic instead of 4 whole cloves🤦🏻♀️), it still came out amazing! I didn't have the Mexican oregano so I used normal oregano, but I'll have to buy that for next time, and make it right. Thank you❤️
I am drooling watching this video. 🤤 Carnitas is one of my favorite meats. I love Pupusas too, Nelson! That instant pot is amazing. Mine is small and not as fancy. Also not sure if I can get pork belly with the skin on. But I love the looks of this recipe and might have to upgrade my equipment just to cook it. 👍❤️
