- This video takes a look at a new build I've been working on which focuses on scaling herald buff effect using Lone Messenger combined with stacking tattoos. Lone Messenger is typically not a very hardcore friendly keystone save for a few niche cases where you can outgear the no-aura downside. However, the introduction of the reworked Chieftain ascendancy combined with tattoos and investment into Damage Taken As allows me to be strong defensively, even without the use of any auras. Meanwhile, offensively the build is focused on clearing large packs with explosion chains, which is achieved through the combination of the Chieftain's Hinekora notable, stacking tattoos and the juiced up Herald of Ash.

I'm on this build for more than a week, yesterday I gave up of Fulcrum only because it was priced at 50div, sold mine. Moved to +2 gem dagger + multimod and Surrender. I really dont feel a drop on DPS. But it's slower because of the inverted chill I've lost. today I'll change the tattoo to inclued the red nightmare. Nowdys it's more tanky. Maybe I can give up some defenses after the red nightmare and some life nodes to inlcude a new cluster jewel.
Question, wouldn't Herald of Ash + Herald of Purity be better then using the keystone for buff effect?

I love this. No one seems to be talking about the herald buff, and I'm really happy to see one used to it's fullest. Using Chieftain, who has a ridiculous overkill amount of defense, and almost no offense, is a perfect solution to no auras with an insane amount of damage.
Love it! Ever since this keystone was added ive always wanted to see a herald of ash version. Tried a few times to PoB it but never got far, but this version youve made is beautiful! Tempting me to come back to this league to give it a go

Hell yeah! I think tattoos pretty much allow you to go for any Herald with LM since you can patch up the weaknesses of that keystone(mostly defence)

I played something similar back in 3.13. I had a full Fire Conversion,BV, Lone Messenger, Herald of Ash Occultist with a Headhunter back then. It smashed completely everything back then with 16M DPS. Used it mainly to farm 5 Way Legions cause of the screenwide Herald of Ash / Profane Bloom Explosions.
So this is giving me some good nostalgia back to that build!
Very cool. Would definitely like a quick build guide if there are any things that must be done to level the build then switch into this form (i.e. any min set of tattoos, etc). I'm also curious on if reap would be better clear? I like BV but hate having to keep it up.
Cool tattoos, makes me think tempered by war + pof sublime vision + dawm breaker with buffed heralds.
I use herald buff effect tattoos in the EK Ignite build to scale the "add % of phys as fire " and fire damage

Would love a build guide for this, I had my most scuffed league start in a long time cause i decided to go off meta, farm and oni at league start and do an infernal blow chieftain, made it to lvl 85 before giving up and rolling a new char lol, so i have a chieftain sitting around that i would love to rock this build on
Temporal rift is a surprising qol for non aura reservation skills. I use it on my hot autobomber and delve with it so i can dive into side areas get loot and one button press takes me back to the crawler path or very close to it. Also its just a nice thing to have to get all your health and ES back if something does almost instaquack you
I was actually going to use this and may still end up doing so(haven't used it before so will take some getting used to). I may end up grabbing freeze immunity on Pantheon and switching arctic armour for temp rift and alt qual blood and sand

love the build, ive been slowly working towards this in a private league though i was planning on getting 300% herald effect (120% rings, 40% tree, 30% gloves, 110% tattoos) without going for lone messenger. Your build inspired me to look to see how much im giving up (herald of purity, purity of fire/elements) for getting 50% more herald effect.

one thing you can optimize, it's changing deep thoughts for dynamo that's inside your elegant hubris, and get one elegant hubris that gives something good on dynamo, it's the same points but with some good modifiers
Absolutely, I've been on the look out for a better EH for this, since I currently need the chaos res it provides but there's not one available at the moment
If you take the jewel ascendancy you can use the transcendent flesh jewel to get some nice life recovery rate and crit multi in the scion part of the tree or

You had an interesting idea of using HoA effect and lone messenger and did a good proof of concept. Nevertheless, there are big problems with the build:
1. No movement speed
2. No AoE
3. No single target DMG
4. Dead 4th acendancy passive
I suggest you completely forgo chieftain and choose Elementalist instead. It would solve AoE, DPS and partially offset defensive loss with stone golems Bastion of Elements. You could still mitigate phys with convert but to a lesser extent. Going Ele would also unlock Suppression or Spell Block (maybe even normal Block). I would also use AoE mid clusters. That leaves us with movement speed problem that can be solved by better boots (probably with onslaught on kill, that would make space for a good flask like Progenesis) and a proper QS flask!
I may try making a full PoB later, when I find some more time. Thanks for inspiration!
This build was designed for hardcore, I'm sure that would work for softcore but chieftan is kind of necessary to not die for this build.
Hinekora, Death's Fury and Herald of Ash explode effects are both very nice AoE damage. Seems like a nice combo for map clearing.
Yeah, I don't really see any of these things as problems, I'm playing HC and I guess everyone is used to different 'normals'
Movement is a bit slow at the moment I agree, but as I said the build is still growing(not even 90 yet). Can be improved with better boots and onslaught on hit ring.
AoE is completely fine IMO, chain explosions are fine. I'm going to fit alt qual blood and sand in at some point for a bit more.
Damage is and will be fine, 95 PoB is around 2.5 mill pinnacle, which I'm completely fine with - it's a mapper, not a bosser.
Ascendancy is indeed unfortunate, but justified because of how good valako and hinekora are.
Elementalist would definitely have more AoE and damage, and lose a lot of defence - golems and bastion are not reliable enough, the golems die, the bastion gets depleted, and then you die. Suppression would be great but you'd likely need to drop the Dawnbreaker to cap it. Block would be really nice too but I doubt you can invest into both. Unfortunately the only Progenesis for sale right now is 200 divines. To be honest, if I had infinite currency then the build could be improved greatly to weak up the inconsistencies, but it functions for the purpose I made it for.

Im sorry, I missed that you play HC, that changes everything and justifies all your choices. You are right in all your points. The "problems" I talked about would still exist from my (very Softcore!) point of view but now I see that sacrificies had to be made. Thanks for clarification!
this with reap sounds sick, i think theres already a bunch of phys to fire reap builds. lets just pray tattoos survive for future leagues so this is replicatable

was stacking alot of herald buffs too on my bear trap ignite blackflame occ, using both herald of purity and ash, i'd suggest you try without lone messenger and slap herald of purity.
How would a build with Worms and overkill behave?
hi, i feel it a bit weird to use supreme ostentation where you should have a lot of suffix open with chieftain ascendency that allow you to get pretty much all res, you can probably swap it for the traitor and go heavy uptime on taste + ruby maybe idk but nice idea otherwise, gl !
so inspiring! maybe it's also possible to scale the flat dmg from Herald of ice and/or Herald of thunder for some builds that really need flat added dmg, like armour stacking LS
I dont think you will stack very much armour with no auras.

I've worked on min-maxing a Herald of Agony Juggernaut this league with Calamitous Vision and was surprised how tanky you can become without the use of auras. I've probably made my thickest character ever after finding different avenues to build defenses. It is quite the fun keystone to build around IMO.
Unfortunately HoAg (the minion itself) doesn't benefit from extra buff effect, and I dream of the day they add more ways to get maximum Virulence.
Yeah Jugg is one of the outliers along with PF, they can get extremely tanky without any auras

To differentiate you from the chieftain RF fulcrum self ignite autobombers which arguably do this better for cheaper:
Phys explode will chain explode screens with this level of herald of ash buff effect, as long as you have AOE and the density to fill up the screen with mobs to begin with. You might see if that feels better than fire explode tattoos or in addition to them.
To address lack of cast speed:
ILvl 84+ large ele / fire 12 passive clusters with 35% buff effect, 3% attack/cast speed with elemental or fire skills, and then life and all/fire res would slap on this build. If you try to roll these yourself probably do it on ele, rather than fire, jewels to increase odds of resale for your fails. Each 12 point jewel could give you as much as 2 jewel slots, 40 cast speed, 160% increased damage, 130 life, and either 70 fire res (70 flat life regen) or 40 all ele res (and 40 flat life regen) or 60 chaos res depending on if you go with all/fire/chaos res as the last suffix. Caspiro timeless jewel trees seem to thrive on the excessive pathing that builds that want 2-3 large clusters need to do, which just adds to this.
BV has no elemental or fire tag so cast speed wouldn't be improved by 12p fire or ele , you have to go phys or spell damage 12p cluster
Fulcrum is literally the same cost as my entire build is as of right now(55 divines)

I'm building a similar character actually, I've invested in block chance to become tanker. Problem was it had like 0 dps. I didnt think about the herald buff effects to be honest.
Scaling Herald Buff effect even more with an ashes for gem quality and the synth ring with inc buff effect would be quite insane, wouldn't it?
Yeah I'm using the rings already, ashes could be very good but it's 130 divines on HC trade
Cool build but have you considered flashbanging yourself with Despair HoA Effect and ripping the character? I feel like the flashbangs would be worth it

I would 100% play this as a second or third build in a league. Do you think it will be viable without tattoos? I assume we can sub in oriaths end or some other source of explode to proliferate it with HoA, but I am concerned about the damage scaling without herald buff tattoos.
I actually think damage-wise it's okay without tattoos, but the build will suffer massively in defences without them, since it's pretty much proped up by that. With that said, both Sanctum and Crucible also had access to extra max res so it's possible new league content will fill the gaps
I am gonna do this and go for a bow build lol or wand with totems. My favourite build this league is Chieftain FlameWall Shrapnel Ballista with snipe mark scaling and return proj. The flamewall clears juiced maps on its own with pushing lvls, while shrapnel is amazing for bossing since the 70% return proj damage reduction does does not effect the bonus from flame wall.....so you shotgun like hell, easy 70+ mil. The deadeye and hiero version have 200m but cost 3 arms and 1 leg while this is budget easy 15mil and 70mil with 20div (i did wrath aura legion boots woth smite hiero with srs, then chains of command. Also tried with Champion smite srs (best minion build i ever played), then tried hiero totemer siege dex stackee into str shrapnel but the Chieftain was build of the league)
I've been using these tattoos with HoAg and HoP scaling up a poison BV so that the Oblivion explosion have 100% chance to poison due to atl quality HoAg
I feel like going for something like Guardian would just be much better. You trade off the max res for block, you get a load of less damage taken from the super saiyan minion, and then you get Anger, Hatred and Wrath for more ele scaling. You'd have to invest in armor, but you could take Radiant Faith for a good start.
I think you can sneak in Divergent Blood and Sand for AoE/Area Damage somewhere.

It should be possible yes - my gear isn't perfect and you could probably drop some parts for magic find gear

a source of phys explode would be nuts for this build, shame your gloves slot is important, since asenaths would go very nicely
Indeed it would be really nice - I did look for a synth implicit one hander but only a claw exists atm which would just be such a huge damage loss

It would work yeah, would end up being more damage and less AoE(lose inc AoE link) but gain mana reservation so can possibly use something else too. You also lose the phys taken as on the crafted helmet
Eh, has value in herald of thunder, forgot why it no longer gets used, but the old autobomber was fairly fun to use, functionally useful in every herald really, just few builds make use of the herald effect for it's main scaling or damage.
I should be stocking tattoo's, but I cannot bring myself to POE anymore this league.
this is not a bad aproach, but i would totally do ashes + bow with levels, get nice cast speed and do EK ignite . like would be big damage and kidna same survival stats. Also maybe a hh or a hh mini gem, forgot the name.
same thought, for nice phys to ele conversion why not EK with (arguably) better clear and better survivalbility?

Yeah this would be way more damage, but also not the same survival since you lost Dawnbreaker, which is huge. Also Ashes is 130 divines on HC trade right now, that's more than double what the whole build cost so far.
Does Lone Messenger prevent auras from others like an aura bot? Or just stop you from adding other auras of your own?
It prevents you from using auras, but auras can still be applied to you from other sources
would herald buff stacking not be better on agony since you can get a lot of value by getting additional levels to it?
The HoAg buff effect is 10% more damage with poison and 20% chance to poison, doesn't scale with levels

Hey Dream, try to go AOE Ignite Route, invest in AOE and in generic Ignite Chance. get yourself gloves with Ignite Prolif. Your coverage is very Small, as you already use RF and BV both need AOE, also your Explosion needs AOE, it has enough Damage. Explosion benefits from HoA generic Fire Damage. On Softcore i would go Arn's Anguish with Circles of Anguish route for insane Fire Resist + a LOT of Damage. PoB BV against Reap, you only need a very Large Average Hit, your damage per second ist not relevant in this type of build. BV kinda needs Duration scaling, what you don't have.
Why do people use cloak of flame over lightning coil?
On Chieftain in particular it's just massive value for resistance(max roll fire res = +149% total res for Chieftain vs the -60% lightning on LC) and regen(from overcapped fire res). Cloak of flame, especially with Dawnbreaker, also makes the character incredibly strong vs phys dot. It's a preference thing really, since most chieftain builds won't struggle to outgear the -60 anyway
Probably for Arctic Armour + Ruby Flask + Talasio ascendancy, in addition to no downside of -60% and being able to stack Fire Res and get huge flat life regen from overcapped fire resist. It just makes more sense, in additional to increased ignite duration and huge fire resist. Getting another 10% taken as a different element pales in comparison, IMO
Also, if you go about gearing slightly different the formless flame helm - which reduces the final calculation of damage from hits from fire and give some huge armor to handle whatever physical damage that isn't converted much, much better. The only real downside to not converting physical damage is the "overwhelm physical damage" from certain mobs, although usually a specific rare only gets a low value (like 25%), but expedition, for example, gets like 100%, which means endurance charges and a bajillion armour does nothing, but if you converted to another element, basically, you are immune to that overwhelm damage mob. That is fairly important for expedition and simulacrum.
Ek ignite build use this tattoo i 0.2 div per tattoo (before your vid hehe price will go up prob after it)
Damn, yeah the herald tattoos were 5-10c in HC trade, guess not many people are using them in this league compared to SC trade

I am back on my pc to tinker on some builds. I think I will try with 10 tries with the randomizer
Got eldritch battery, Blood magic, CI, and that node that gives ES leech.... so I can't cast any spells, or attack with anything, any and all DoT instantly kills me. I managed to be quasi immortal for on hit, but anything else folds me. So I am bleed immune, immune to ignited ground, immune to those chaos ground effects,
Since I only have access to my default attack and I can't run more than a couple of auras, then it won't be a viable build. Or what...
No, there is nothing I can do to save such a bad randomized char. Even if I go with armour stacker for the default attack, I am not getting much more than 200k arm. And I still have no flat damage. Unless, maybe tattoos. No that won't do. Already some combinations are simply too disruptive. I have made a char that can survive without mana, ES, or life. Until it hits dot that is not bleed, ignite, burning ground, decorated ground, poison, or Corrupted blood. Since I am immune to all of that. Even 100% delicious with 300% as extra won't do anything from the on hit effect.
I do have 75% block, 64% spell block, 100 spell supp, 90/90/90/100 res.
Thanks to Olroth resolve I am not dying from on hit damage. But I can't fight back... can't even use RF because of CI.

I am not crapping on your build here, it is very creative. But, this seems inferior to a basic RF explode build. The defense are about the same, and you don't gotta cast as much. You can pretty much run and boom. Again, seriously, the build is creative, but I don't really see why you went this far more complicated route to essentially get almost the same or even inferior clear. You are solely relying on HoA and while decent, using self ignite based off of Hinekora would net far more DPS anyway than the best HoA setup. That said, I do see an allure to being a "different" build, but I dunno. Having to stop and cast is just not a fun playstyle when you are simply just run through with RF - Now, if your self cast was really high DPS, I might - and of course, if the build was CHEAP, but it really isn't cheap, although that is debatable these days.
It's quite similar to RF indeed, but I think the clear is considerably better with the AoE on HoA(the build is currently unfinished, cast/movespeed is low but will be improved). Also, I'm about 55 divines into this build right now, last I checked the Fulcrum was 60 divines alone(HC trade).
What about just Legacy of Fury + Explode Tattoos and Hinekora alone? I mean, the boots are huge - 8% for 4 seconds, almost like a mini ignite. Delirium instantly explodes on my setup. Seems Hinekora carries most of these builds anyway and self ignite isn't even needed, nor is fan the flames. I am softcore, so I know I am comparing apples to oranges here, but I wanted to state that I only have explode tattoo + hinekora (no boots) on my MF find character, and everything explodes pretty much instantly. Just saying the clear alone is fine with the tattoos + hinekora, no need for HoA, and that is without even using legacy of fury. @@dreamcore_gg
@@SWTORDREKKIN I did consider LoF, might even fit them in at some point but as of right now the boots I have provide too many needed stats(res, max res, aspect, chill avoid, life)
It's very sad to see PoE in this state. Ancestors it seems has been broken from day one. Knockback. Void Sphere. Gorgon statue. Each time GGG fixes holes in the league mechanic someone finds another. Tattoos has to be the camel that finally broke the back. One straw too much for the pool old camel.
It is just so complex now that the game has run away from the developers.
I've seen Ben_ using a build with 50 health that one shots an uber-uber boss. This is in hard core.
It really makes a joke of the entire game. You certainly will not see that rubbish, and it is rubbish, in World of Warcraft boss fights.

If you can play the game 24/7 at the start and get enough currency you win.

What ancestors have to do with the 50hp one shot uber build? this build exist for a really long time now and poe has always be about efficiency of farming nothing different this league
