Is it solid throughout? How heavy? I’ll check it out next time at the Depot. The cabinet on my mill takes a man and a small boy to pick it up.

Yes, it's solid. It isn't quite as hard as plywood but it holds fasteners really well.

I recently bought a bathroom vanity cabinet that is made of this material. People are making kitchen cabinets, bedroom closets and doors out if this material.

Thanks, I been looking for something to use for my enclosure.

Cool. Good to know. I plan on making my enclosure from and old desktop pc box. My scrap yard has tons of them. One question. Sorry to bombard you with the noob-ness lol. But I just got my four axis kit from Longs with their breakout board. Is there a way to use that spindle encoder you have on your chucker with the Longs board? Also I have another sherline lathe with sherlines dro and it has the optical that comes with theirs. Assuming that won’t be the best option though?

Hi. True encoder feedback requires a more complicated board than what you probably got from Longs Motor. You can get a single pulse per rev with their DB25 Break Out Board, but to get true encoder feedback (4000 pulses per rev) you need something like the Centroid Acorn.

Franco yeah. I’m gonna dish out the dollars for acorn after all. I got all my motors and what not. Holding off on the mill till next month cuz....wifey. So I bought an A grade surface plate, new grinder, and Mitutoyo tenths indicator for my own Xmas presents. Furthermore sherline says it’s quite possible they will have a ball screw conversion kit out for the long bed lathe that I already have either this month or January. And my shithead side kinda wants to build a mill from scratch and use the THK HRW rails. Similar to what “Zeal CNC” had used in their mills. Idk. Turns out you have answered the majority of my questions in older videos 😂. Sorry sometimes I reach out as soon as I’m about to make a decision to get your input. And another thought was using the DMM 750 watt servo for spindle drive. You still using one of those? Any shortcomings you’ve found since making those videos? Thanx

@@durangotang1681 You have some cool projects coming up. The only thing I'll say is moving forward, I would go with Clearpath servos over DMM. Both are good but Clearpath is easier to configure and make work.

Franco so how do I use a clear path as a spindle motor so I can do threading? Not only that but as a full time motor to ditch sherlines stock motor. I’m losing sleep over this. I’ve even contacted them and they recommended the sdhp models to me? Someone else thought that was weird as there was no option to control velocity. Pulling my hair out here. Then I look at the dmm tech and it seems pretty plug and play with acorn. But I can’t meet the 220v requirement. Save me Franco. Also I should mention that’s why dmm tech is appealing cuz I have used for the step n direction as well as using it for threading and regular turning work. But how does this work with clear path?!?😤

@@durangotang1681 Hi. First off, you don't actually need to control the spindle in order to do threading. All you need is spindle feedback (and encoder or some type of sensor depending on your software and MCU). I use the centroid acorn system and it is super easy to connect an inexpensive encoder and get the feedback. I suggest you look into that product: www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_diy/acorn_cnc_controller.html
Secondly, you can control just about any spindle motor driver with this cool little guy: ua-cam.com/video/-h4k-9qlTHo/v-deo.html
      I hope that helps.

Are you allowed to use "Sherline" and "industrial" in the same sentence?
Seriously, though, the enclosure looks great, and the video is just the right length.

Franco, I'm having a real tough time finding info from anywhere on the 10V and 0-10 V connection to my Acorn board. I've watched most of your videos, but have not been able to get the info I need. I'm trying to contact Acorn about the question but no response yet. Do you have an email I could contact you through. I'm sure it is a very simple solution. Thanks.

I see no shileding of EMI and the enclosure is not made out of metal! You dont get any noise interference? Ive been doing alot of research and 90% of the guys that are serious say its a must to use shielding procedures! the last thing you wany is running a job that takes hours and have it mess up at the very end! also its a good idea to use a metal enclosure that acts as a farday cage agaisnt emi !
