Thank you for the quick no-nonsense realtime video! 7 minutes and 22 seconds of relevant content! (and shoutout to the Lenovo engineers for making it such a quick process to do)

Extremely useful! Just upgraded to IPS. Very good commentary, lots of sensible warnings & flipping the laptop to take the screen down without stressing the cable is really clever.

Mine was from ebay.co.uk from seller 'euroscreens' on the 19th June 2016, and was advertised as "Lenovo THINKPAD X220 4291 IPS Wide View LCD Screen Replacement for Laptop New". I messaged them to check it was an IPS screen.

billyclub I'm not affiliated with them, but the company that gave me a discount to create this video (link in description) had the IPS display in stock for the x220. ultimately the IPS version was glossy and used more power, so I suck with the cheaper matte LCD. the company has decent support and I got the display quicky, so no complaints.

They don't seem to list an identical auction. It is a great screen though - mostly matt display, brighter than my old one, nearly 180 deg. viewing angle, though starts to get dim when more than 45 deg. away from normal. Resolution exactly the same. I'm not sure whether it would be possible to get something that different. Power use doesn't seem any more than the old screen; 12.5 W when web browsing, dropping to ~8 W when just editing text in aeroplane mode.

I'm so disheartened. Followed the instructions to the letter and now I have a grey thin vertical line down my screen. Don't know if I was TOO gentle on the connectors or if I need to clip them in a bit more to make a good connection. I'm afraid to make it worse now when all I wanted was a newer screen. So much for that.
Thanks, your video really helped though. wouldn't have gotten this far without it.

The IPS upgrade is second only to putting in a SSD :)

Thinking about upgrading my x220's screen to something better, im not too knowledgeable about these kinds of things when it comes to screens and stuff but the screen on my x220 is a bit eh, like its difficult to read with it and stuff when i am doing researching on articles, anywho wondering what kind of screen should i be investing to get a better visual something clear like 1080p or something. Someone said Dell Duo 12.5" 1080p would work. If so is that a smart investment for the whole better experience with my laptop or would it be a flop?

Damn, this looks WAY easier than re-pasting the CPU on one of these things.
