I would love to pore over this album and imagine the lives of these people and how they turned out. There are some great videos, eBay auctions, and websites devoted to these stories.
I love to read history like this because we have a very old prison in Canon City, Colorado that was established in the late 1800's and I have toured the old prison!
I would love to peruse that book! How interesting. And, they were called the "Shanghai Tunnels" as there was an opening to the river, where waiting ships would kidnap hapless drunk men to work on the boats.
Contact a genealogical society to see if they have some one willing to transcribe the entries. Then current and future generations can locate their ancestors. Such a valuable resource that might help break through some 'brick walls'. 👍
I worked at Ancestry.com a few years ago and the scanning department would love to get their hands on this book. I can imagine myself sitting for hours reading through this...these little easter eggs are what make the research so interesting.
All the men are wearing suits and most wear ties and even hats ! Also very interesting looking characters . Check the beautiful handwriting too. That was before computers killed the teaching of it.
I find that the estimates in the usa version of the Antiques Roadshow are consistently much higher than the ones in the original UK version...I wonder if this isn't pushed a bit by the network in order to sensationalise and increase the ratings?....
Wow, so many great stories here. A novelist would have a field day.
That's an amazing bit of history. I think someone would pay a lot more for that. I'd love to own it myself.
That’s so cool! I’d love to buy that!

Portland hasn't changed a bit...

Everyone wore a hat.
They wore hats to keep warm. That was near the end of the Mini Ice Age.
Cool book

nondescript Assuming the all the appraisers featured in the US version are legitimate, seems doubtful
@@jayped8660 I have no doubt they are legitimate..but one can appraise conservatively or go for the speculative high end of the spectrum....
@@nondescript2892 Not very likely, there is several of the more interesting cases that got much more at auction than the in-show evaluation.
They're better dressed than today's college students.
It never occurs to these people to donate these items of history to the museums where they rightly belong and can conserve them.
They're surprisingly well dressed. Hats, coats, ties. No jeans and t-shirts.
those glasses tho
Daddy?!
What a gallery of stellar citizens...☹️
Meanwhile sa Pilipinas ngayon, kung hindi nakahubad, eh duguan na ang mukha. Sasabihan ka pa ng, "Panu mo nasabi?" Hahaha...
“Thown away”
They was after brothers even than
I wouldn't mind spending 10Grand on that.
All the people on the album are dead by now and including the appraiser.
@CALife // 🤔🙄 ummm... No!! She's still alive.. June 2020
