My guess is that the android took most of the attack, so it was destroyed. Kotetsu only took part of the attack due to being behind the android. Idk, I'm pretty sure the main reason was plot convinience...
Check his pulse?? Kotetsu's wrists and neck are still clad in bullet proof armour! And Barnaby is wearing thick gloves. The only way for Barnaby to check for any vital signs would be placing his ear next to Kotetsu's mouth and feel his breathe, except that he's wearing a helmet! Unless his suit has any vitality detectors, flawless logic there, Tiger! (though I'm actually surprized his daughter didn't notice he was breathing, she held him much longer than Bunny)

Am I the only one questioning the fact that Kaede got caught? She is a Mimic NEXT who either still had Rose's ice powers or her Tiger's hundred powers, I'm pretty sure she could have easily take on an old man such as Maverick.

Rex Anderson you forget since maverick touched her, she would get his powers and does not have blue rose's or kotetsu's. and she doesn't even know how to use that variety of power.
Finally, this is answered in season 2: So, s2 SPOILER: . . . . . . . . . Kaede can only copy a power once, so she can never use Kotetsu's, Maverick's, Sky High's or Blue Rose's (or whoever's powers she has already copied) powers again.
