As a Do It Yourself male, you just proved that a woman can do the same job as a man without fancy tools, even better. RESPECT
Thank you so much 😊
Come on man!! Stop simping!!!
@@Mikegee63 only an idiot would see it that way.
Thank you for this. I appreciate a real example of what to expect from an older more used home. I have some nasty stairs that I recently inherited and when I watch videos everyone is working on clean newer stuff. Your video is much more relatable and I also appreciate your editing to cover more in less time.
Glad it was helpful! My goal was to show that the most inexperienced person is able to make the impossible possible. Thanks for your comment!
Great video. I love the every other stair staining. That is a tip I will use for sure. The stairs look fantastic.
Thank you so much!😊
This turned out beautifully 👍🏼 just one bit of advice, when removing carpet, especially old, please please wear a mask. The dust, bacteria, mites etc can be extremely harmful to your lungs xx
Thanks for that; I will definitely keep that in mind when starting my next project.
I can’t believe you did this on your own. Impressive to me. Turned out soo good 👍🏼
Thank you so much! 😊
You did an amazing job. My carpet looks just as bad. I’m working on ripping up my carpet and your video showed me an easy way, as well as affordable, how to get the job done. Looks great!
Glad it was helpful!
You go girl ! It looks great ! Exactly what I plan to do to mine. I don't know why people think they need to replace the treads and risers automaticlly . if they look good , use em. Especially with wood prices as they are. Thanks for the ispiration !
Thank you so much 😊
I love your idea about painting every other step! I would have started on the top and work my way down. This would have trapped my son upstairs with no bathroom and leave me downstairs sleeping on the couch lol.
Exactly! I had to think it through before I started.
Thank you for an actual on a budget diy!!
Thank you so much 😊!
I'm so inspired. I have to do this in my home and you've made me trust that I can do it
Thank you so much! You absolutely can do this on your own! Best wishes to you!
Excellent DIY- Stairs look awesome you are hired ☺️🌸
Thank you!
Absolutely great. Gave me more inspiration to do the same on my stairs that are super ugly. Hope I can achieve a good result as you did. 👍🏻
I’m sure it will look great once you complete it.
Very good, this gives me confidence that I can do my stairs now! Thank you!
Thank you! Best of luck on your stairs! You can do it!!!
This is good timing. Have a split level and did the first set of 3 stairs but so far have just been staring at it.
Thank you for your comment! Best of luck on your project!
Thank you so much you explained everything so clearly and not slow and the work under a great price!
And such a cute dog!! Love it
Thank you so much for your comments. It is much appreciated 🥰
Beautiful staircase! And I love the finished look 👀
Thank you so much 😊
THANK YOU!! About to embark on my stairs. Not so terrified now:)
Thank you so much 😊 Best of luck on your stair project.
It looks fantastic!
Very good job!
Thank you so much 😊
Great job. I'm not a fan of red tone stains but purple? Mmmm loving that colour. I've never heard of black cherry stain but I'll be looking for it now.
Thank you for your comment. To be honest I’m not a fan of dark wood either but since it’s a high traffic area it was perfect and it turned out better than I had envision.
Thank you so much for all the details. You did an awesome job. This video really helped.❤
Well done!!! Looks terrific!!
Thank you so much 😊
Excellent-You are hired ☺️
Great video! Do you think this paint would work on stairs that have old stain on them? Would they need to be sanded first?
Thank you. I think it seriously would be best if you sanded the stairs first. Even if you are using the same existing colored stain it’s always best to start with a fresh slate and build from there.
@@introducinglele1246 Makes sense and thanks for replying back so quickly!
Looks amazing!! Do you find that the new stairs are slippery for your pug?
Thank you so much! No not at all. I have two dogs now a Pug & Pekingese and they both run up and down the stairs with no issues.
I was wondering about the pup too. 🐕💕 We have 2 seniour dogs, a black Pug & a Beagle/Pug cross, & I want to do our staircase too, but we'll need a carpet runner on ours (as well for our 2 Siamese cats). Unfortunately, our treads are particle board underneath the carpet, with wood risers (wish it were the opposite! 😖).. so we will have to figure out if we can do the treads on ours without replacing them, as that would require replacing the entire railing & I do NOT want to do that! 😔). Great job on yours! 🤗
@@luvbuggies My pug is a senior as well. He has long nails because he doesn’t let the groomer clip them but he still has no problem with slipping down the stairs.
Honey...you are the bomb, great job! You did extremely well. Turned out really nice.
Thank you so much 😊
You actually did a wonderful job.
Thank you so much! 😊
THIS WAS THE KIND OF VIDEO I WAS LOOKING FOR!!! THANK YOU!!!!! You did a terrific job! Loved the end results! ❤️❤️❤️
I do have a few questions, how long did it take for each coat to dry? And are the steps slippery once stain dried? (When wearing socks etc)
Thank you for your comment! To answer your questions for good measure I allowed it to dry for 24 hours but it’s seemed like it was dry after 6 hours. No, the stairs are not slippery but what was not shown in the video is that I coated it with polyurethane so I won’t need to do touch ups as often.
🤮😬😱 …… 🥰😌. I find when applying any type of stain, a sponge brush works best. Good job!
Thank you so much! Awesome advice. I will definitely keep that in mind on my next staining project.
How long did that project take you to complete it you did an awesome job
Thank you so much 😊 It took me 3 days to complete.
Excellent Thoughts! Thanks!
Thank you so much 😊
This looks great!
Thank you so much! 😊
How did you do the top step where carpet was met.
I nailed down a transition strip.
Great job ! How long did it take you to complete the stairs? Can I buy all I need from home Depot ?
Thank you. It took me around 4 days. Day 1 I pulled carpet, padding, & staples. Day 2 I sanded, added the riser & landing. Day 3 I painted and Day 4 I did the second coat. And yes, you are able to purchase everything from Home Depot.
Awesome work it going to give it a shot Love to see it
Thank you so much 😊 Best of luck on your project
How long did removing the carpet take you?
Taking up the carpet took about 15 minutes, removing the padding about 20 minutes, and removing all the staples and nails 2 hours.
Great job!
Thank you so much!
Pretty.
Thank you so much 😊
You are amazing!
Thank you so much 😊
Awesome!
Thank you so much 😊
That landing edge looked a bit rough
Thank you for your comment. The was rough that’s exactly why I used sand paper to smooth it out.
Great job
Thank you so much 😊
I want to do this so badly in my house but I need my husband to go away for a month. 😩😩😩
I do understand. Between my hubby and the dog it was definitely challenging.
I think maybe mine are too rough. May try it anyway
I’m sure you can make it work. Just take it one step at a time. A little sanding and buffing goes a long way.
I'm moving in to a house where the staircase looks awful. Thanks for the tips.
Congratulations on your move! Glad that I could help.
Good❤
😊
We're the steps squeaky
No not at all.
Hahaha. " hoping for the best " here there is no best under carpet ever ! Lol. So sorry
Tell me about it
Wish I could forward video to son. I feel like I am ready
You really need to do research on HOW to apply stain, you applied it incorrectly. Where is the polyurethane ????
Thank you for your comment. However, I think it all boils down to “means & methods.” While it was not shown in this video I did apply polyurethane to the stairs afterwards.
You have done an excellent job with your level of skills and determination to upgrade your home. Keep up the good work, it'll just get even better overtime.
Thank you so much 😊
This was awesome, you showed every step and didn't use a bunch of fancy tools that I don't have. What an inspiration, thank you. Your stairs look beautiful. Great job!!
Thank you so much 😊
I admire you for your vision; I recently took up carpet in 2 rooms was more than I bargain for; now going to tackle my stairs and I have a feeling they will look the same as yours once the carpet is up but I did find that using needle nose plyers help to pull up all the nails and staples.
Thank you for your comment. I wish you all the best on your stair remodel. Needle nose pliers….I’m going to purchase some because I intend to pull up carpet in another room. Thank you 😊
I'm so happy to see a Dyi that uses no fancy tools. This is exactly what I am looking to do!! Thanks for the video!
Glad it was helpful!
Woman sister you are a genius. I too have dirty carpet on the only stairs between the first and second floor. Could not get past how we were going to get up and down the stairs while the paint or stain was drying! LOL. Have watched so many carpet removal videos and you have been the only one who has the same set of simple tools, including the saw, that I have. A huge thank you for showing how will power and brain power make it happen!!!
You should been got rid of that nasty carlet
Thank you for your comment.
Wood is so expensive i. Orange county…
Fabulous job on your stairs! Doing mine today and was looking for some direction on how to handle it, hope mine turn out as well as your did!
Thank you so much 😊 Best of luck to you on your stairs!
You're right it was in bad shape. I am impressed with how well your work turned out. Good for you. It paid off. We had our carpets replaced. I was stunned at how much dirt makes its way all the way thru the carpet and just sits there under the plywood. Yuuckkk
Thank you so much 😊
$40 my ass atleast $1000 of ur own labor I’ve done this and it sucks however you did a great job
Thank you so much 😊. I was only referring to the cost of materials. My time is priceless but the gratification I get everyday when I can say I did that with my own two hands; it was well worth my time.
it came out so good! looked like a fun project and I can't believe how affordable
Thank you so much!
What kind of paint did you use on the riser, semi-gloss?
It’s DutchBoy Pure White Satin. Then I painted polyurethane afterwards. The Satin has a little gloss but not much.
Thanks for this video. I got basement stairs and second floor stairs that need work. I’m totally gonna do this
Thank you for your comment. Best of luck on your project!
Are your beautiful stairs slippery? I too took off my nasty carpet and now am staining the treads. I just don’t know how to keep them from being too smooth or slippery.
No they are not slippery at all. I actually painted on a coat of polyurethane after the stain and it’s not tacky or slippery at all.
Thank you for answering my question. That helps a lot.
Glad that I could help. I have served my purpose. 😇
How was the smell as it dried
The smell isn’t too bad but I did use industrial floor fans and opened the windows to air it out.
Girl, let me tell you, you are so lucky that you didn't find an adhesive mess under that carpet. I pulled up mine, and it had funky old laminate under it, so I pulled it out too. Holy cow, what a mess! I've been scraping adhesive for 3 days now! What a pain! It had to go though because my husky, oddly enough loves to use it as her potty. I can't even begin to imagine how she positions herself to go on the dang stairs, but she surely does it. (Never get a husky) can't wait to move on to painting and staining.
Great job btw. Looks fantastic. Exactly the look I'm going for.
Thank you so much 😊 And best of luck to you on your DIY!
Hey you did a Amazon job! How many coats do
You add for the stain? Thank you
I only did 2 coats of stain and went over it with polyurethane.
Excellent work! I'm doing the exact same thing for 27 steps in our townhouse, its labourous! 😢😅
Indeed it is! I wish you all the best on your stairs!
I've finally found a video that doesn't show you to remove risers and treads with new ones. I don't understand why the extra time and cost if they are fine to begin with? 🤔
I agree! That’s way too much work to remove and replace risers and treads…just use what you have!
Totally impressed, I need to do the same
Thank you 😊
You are a brave girl. I wont touch mine without gloves. Yhank you for the motivation. Mine is ugly too. Beautiful job.
Thank you so much 😊
Mine look just like this, I just pulled carpet off 5 stairs today 9 more to go. What a job 😮💨. Your before & after looks great 👍🏾
Thank you so much 😊 Best of luck on your stair project!
Thank you for sharing. I don't want to spend a lot of money and I believe I can do this myself. However, what is that energetic song in the background? I need to play that to give me energy to stain! Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your comment! I wish you the best of luck on your project. You definitely can do this on your own. As far as the music I downloaded it from UA-cam; I dont remember the artist or title.
Inexpensive mdf panels make smooth risers
Thank you I wish I would of looked into that before I started this project.
Great work! I love that you used the hand saw because I'm in the same boat. I don't have a fancy saw. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for your comment. 😁
What an upgrade. Beautiful, well done.
Thank you so much 😊
Great job. I've pulled up the carpet on mine already, wood is in excellent condition, thank goodness! Just here looking around for last minute tips before I venture out. Thanks for sharing!!😊
Thank you so much 😊! Best of luck on your project!
@@introducinglele1246 thank you!!!!!!
Great job looks lovely
Thank you so much! 😀
Your stairs look beautiful
Thank you so much 😊
Wow! I am so impressed! What a fabulous job you did! You go girl!!
Thank you so much 😊
I believe the riser you installed in the landing is now higher than 7 3/4 inches, so is not in compliance with the code. Can you confirm?
In compliance with what code?
Watched this video because your stairs looked like mine.. carpet was not doing it no amount if cleaning was working
I totally understand the frustration when trying to keep carpet stairs clean!
Did you use glue for the shiplap? Did you use glue and nails for the for the landing and the risers too? I'm inspired to do my stairs now. I just pulled up the carpet.
I just used finishing nails for both the ship lap and the riser so I wouldn’t split the wood.
@@introducinglele1246 ok thank you!
Lot of dirt underneath the carpet 😂
You did great!
Yes it was! Thank you!
You go girl 😃
Thank you so much! 😀
I have been dying to do the same. GREAT JOB!
You should go for it! Thank you so much 😊
Good job! You inspired me to redo mine. Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊
That is quite impressive. Good for you.
Thank you so much 😊
Amazing it looks really good.
Thank you! Cheers!
Always wear gloves and mask 😊😊😊
Thank you I will keep that in mind for future reference. 😊
I love this video...thanks so much
Thank you for your kind words! 😊
Amazing job!! 👏🏿🥳
Thank you 😊
Great idea to do every other stair so you can still get upstairs lol getting ready to do ours
You did a great affordable diy to your stairs and they look so very nice🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😊😊
Thank you so much 😊
Holy shit! Sorry but I would call that a massacre!
I’m sorry you feel that way. I hope you’re able to find another video on UA-cam that is able to brighten your Spirits since this one couldn’t.
