I have the A6X and agree with all your points. Great experience that has gotten better through regular firmware updates, which have generally included new features every time. I would like the screen real-estate of an A5X though, and am considering adding one. Would keep the A6X around for travel.
Thank you! This helped me finally decide to buy this. I already own the latest Ipad and as a chemist and artist, it was fine but it was a little bit of a pain to bring to school in a purse. I wanted something lighter to write my notes on and A5x just seems more useable in my case :)
As an Apple fanboy, reading (or doing just about anything really) on my iPad results in eyestrain and so I went with the Supernote and there simply isn’t any eyestrain (or distractions) and it’s a wonderful reading experience.
The plot thickens for me now. Further to my comment on the intro Remarkable vs. Supernote clip I made earlier today, you've laid out a nice case (actually, several use cases) for Supernote. I am still liking the Kindle integration possibility that Supernote affords, and that's because reading books on iPad just doesn't quite cut it; it's that emitted light problem. And if I'm going to spend money on a Kindle, then for 2x what the best Kindle costs, I can have a Supernote. Now I need to look at a Remarkable video of yours and see where it falls. These are great reviews. And now I also understand why your style and approach is so good for these things: You're a teacher. And I just love that you do these (seemingly) loosely scripted-even with visible edits (which actually lend to a more "real" feel). Keep this approach. It's credible, inviting, and carries the right amount of humility that is often so lacking in self-aggrandizing review videos.
Your videos on these are great. Like many, I had been debating between this and the Remarkable 2. I went with the A5X after yours and a couple of other reviews. Now just waiting on delivery expected next week. I'm excited about the writing feel, Google drive integration, and Kindle app, among others. I think including the Kindle app was great, as I've been wanting an e-ink reader for a while. I'm very excited to finally get this. Thanks for your great video content!!
Ultimately, I'm really leaning toward an rm2. They got me with their FB ads (sure I'm not alone there) and have since been researching but the Ratta and Boox alternatives are just so much more expensive.
I already have the IPad Pro that is a 2020 4th gen model. Really interested in the e-ink tablets and am considering one. I am leaning more towards the Supernote A5X, but may wait for the remarkable 3 to come out before making a final decision. In the meantime, I’m going to get the Paperlike screen protector as well as Goodnotes and Notability. They aren’t very expensive to run them for a year to see how they stack up. This is all thanks to your reviews. Awesome job. Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Hiya, yes it's good for teaching pdfs. You may want something which is A4 in size. But they get pretty expensive. Check out my comparison video of A5X and Remarkable because I go in depth about the various features and uses!
Great video! You give a great review of this product and explain how it can be used in so many productive ways. Definitely need one of these to help with school study and productivity.
I think the email setup expectation may be a little off, sure if your using G Mail it may be a little easier but IMAP and SMTP info are standard for email services, bit like saying the post office can improve by not having to write your address and zip code :)
Hi - were you able to read and/or create Onenote Notes? What is your e-ink book/notebook recommendation if I only want to be able to read OneNote notes? Wonderful video - thank you for taking the time and effort. Take care!
A really helpful video! currently researching e-ink tablets for my own use in work and I’m finding I am gravitating to your videos more than anything to help inform my decision. Leaning towards the a5x for its professional functionality. As part of my job I tend to hand out a lot of questionnaires. Might be a bit of a redundant question but does the a5x allow me to upload templates/pdfs and easily save multiple copies as I use them? For instance, I may see 3 clients a day and administer the same questionnaire to each of them so I’d want to be able to easily edit a pdf and then save it as a new copy. Then bring up a blank one again for the next client.
@@KitBetts-Masters remarkable 2 which I am going to send back when it comes. I like this one for the better files management. Also how is the text converting is it pretty accurate. Can you correct mistakes easy? Ordered mine today.
@@KitBetts-Masters Just bought it, very excited. Amazing CS...sent them an email asking them a few questions and was pleasantly surprised by their replies.
Hi! Thanks for this video! I'm considering purchasing this. But the big thing for me and one of the main reasons why I would be getting it is...Can you highlight words/sentences/paragraph on the kindle part and put it on a doc or note page? I hope that makes sense. Thanks kindly!
Totally. It's great for reading and writing! The remarkable is best for drawing, but I think there's an update in the offing which will improve drawing on the supernote!
Yes you can, ereader is just fine. Lots of file formats works and you can annotate everything! Has a Kindle app too and probably more in later updates.
I'm looking for a tablet specifically for note taking and organizing my notes. I'm a big note taker and use old-school paper notepads but I'd like the idea of being able to have my notes electronically that can be organized and have the ability to search. Which one is better for that function in terms of organizing the notes that I can also search for later on?
@@KitBetts-Masters Very early days but have so far made a couple of my own templates for my law studies course and purchased the My Daily Organiser which was a stunning value for money purchase. Not to mention Voja's exceptional demonstration videos for his product. Have also enjoyed the "How To's" by people like Pixel Leaves & Everything cpo to guide me on my journey. The Reddit forum and FB page are wonderful places of ideas and mutual support. I notice you mention price. There's the saying "buy once, cry once" but there are no tears here. As you've pointed out, an exceptional piece of technology worthy of the investment.
Hello, I just got a remarkable 2 and I really like the writing experience. I know there are many things can’t beat Supernote but my only concern is writing. Could you please tell me more about writing in Supernote? Is same as installing a paper-like screen protector on an iPad or better? Thanks.
Does it recognize math formulas as well? I wonder if it can convert formulas into latex text? And Supernote A4 with ability to display handwriting on an external monitor (as you already mentioned) would be fantastic to have
Can you draw a perfectly straight line? I build custom cabinets and doing “scaled” field drawings of cabinets with room measurements is very important for me. I need to know if I can draw a straight line without a ruler or some other 2nd hand function? Thank you!!
Thank you! You’ve helped me decide on which to buy. Before I press purchase on the Supernote, do you know if any of these e-ink devices will have color ink soon?
I wouldn't hold my breath to be honest, I want to try colour eink, but most people said it's not currently producing a clear enough image. Interesting development, but I think you can buy black and white now and colour will be ready in 3-5 years!
I have watched a ton of your videos and have pretty much decided on the Supernote A5X. My research leads me believe you can't buy this item in the UK which must be incorrect! Are you able to name any UK stockists? Thanks in advance.
I seem to be in the minority here but like some of the other people commenting, I looked at this video and many others before committing to a Supernote A5X, which on the whole I’m happy with. However, I am getting some bad behaviour - when I first start to use it each morning (20 mins or so) I get a lot of “shadowing” not sure of the technical term, sure there will be one - meaning that I get lines appearing in the wrong place when the nib of the pen IS NOT actually touching the screen. Also, during this early period of usage, toggling between functions does not work well either, pen nib seemingly not recognised in the right area of the screen. Not sure if any other users have experienced this and might have suggestions to resolve…? Thanks.
I'm still undecided about keeping my Scribe as opposed to the Remarkable 2. I cant afford the Supernote as nice as it and feature rich. The Scribe feels limited and unfinished. How is Amazon's ability to update the OS with more features?
Hello, yes I think they work just fine for lefties, the first question it asks is which hand you use and so it can optimise palm rejection and place tool bars etc. 😀
Great video! I’m stuck between purchasing the supernote a5x and the papyr. My primary use will be note taking so the A5X seems to be a great choice but I’m worried about the size which is why I’m considering the papyr. Is the supernote much smaller than a standard sheet of paper? Do you think the size difference would be an issue for me? Thank you
Basically supernote is half an A4 sheet of paper. Papyr is a full A4 sheet. Two reasons why you might want the larger size, either reading and/annotating academic documents, or using the split screen view. If you don't care about either of those you'll be ok with smaller. They are both great devices though!
@@KitBetts-Masters But is it possible to do screen share PDF files on Supernote ? or because of the small size it would matter ? And Papyr does it give the same feeling of writing and all other features ?
@@TieraOwens Hey, since you can already compare, which one do you prefer and which would you recommend for someone who wants to take notes, read and write down my thoughts regularly without getting any form of distraction from the device?
@@pejupeju3908 I loved the writing experience but I ended up sending it back. It wasn't as responsive as the ReMarkable at times and it wasn't as sophisticated. I was turned off by the difficulty of syncing with the app, the difficulty of syncing period, really. The app was clunky and really served no purpose. Maybe it was user error? Lol I also didn't like the typos I found and it was too obvious that it is a foreign product. Some thing seemed to get lost in translation. The HoM pen didn't fit well in my hand even though it was made well. The final nail in the coffin though was when the screen stop responding to my finger touches altogether and the only way I could access the menu was with my finger. The pen couldn't do it which was weird to me. So without me being able to access the menu, I couldn't do anything. 🤷🏾♀️ It has a lot of potential but I think they'll benefit from some extra eyes and hands on it and a few improvements.
@@TieraOwens Thank you! I must confess I am now sincerely confused. I am drawn to the RM because of its slicky, beautiful design but the limited functions and subscription model is a put off, more so because these features are free on the Supernote which is cheaper with more functions, no subscription but with a less beautiful design. Confused really.
Love your videos - they're very nicely done! I had been thinking about getting the Remarkable 2 until I saw your videos - my primary reason is for writing and taking notes. The Supernote A5X seems better with the ability to create word docs and convert handwriting. I know the RM2 does that but not without a subscription I believe. My problem is that I cannot see anywhere to buy the Supernote A5X in the UK, and also cannot even find the official website for it anywhere. Any advice on this please?
Yeah, unfortunately they don't ship to the UK yet, however I think there is now an EU warehouse... don't let's get started on that... Website should be easy to find though. One sec... Yeah, it's just supernote.com.
@@KitBetts-Masters Hi. I spotted your link under the video after posting this - ordered the A5X from the website - they do deliver now to UK. I also went on your recommendation and ordered a Heart of Metal pen too. Delivery will be a few weeks so, being the impatient person I am, I'll be climbing the walls til it arrives, but hopefully will be well worth it! Thanks again for your great videos, you covered every aspect I needed to know about in order to make my decision on it :-)
@@techietess5140 ah, that's great, very glad to have helped. So did you order through the gorillascribe site? Did you have to pay import taxes? I have a few people asking the same question!
@@KitBetts-Masters oh sorry I didn't see the gorillascribe site. Should have done that way for you! Will have to pay taxes at this end before delivery which is 20% of total GBP paid. Total for me to pay will be approx £550 which is A5X, cowhide folio, heart of metal pen, plus shipping and taxes. Hope that helps! Yes it's quite a bit more expensive than the Remarkable 2, but will not have to buy replacement nibs or pay for a subscription in order to convert writing to text etc. So in the long run will save.
Great Review. I am trying to figure out if I should get this or the Remarkable 2. I am a Financial Advisor and take notes all the time. I want to be able to save this to a file in cloud. I am assuming that is possible with this.
Thanks I am nearly decided, but can you elaborate on the type of pen you suggest as I can't see description when ordering matching what you recommend. Thanks
@@KitBetts-Masters thanks, I don't see that option but assuming the one you recommend is more expensive than standard, maybe they have now renamed it to LAMY AL-star (i see you make a reference to it feeling similar to such a pen)
@@carltaylor-beeby3196 Nope, that's a separate pen that they work with LAMY to package in sometimes. There should be HoM, but perhaps they aren't available at the minute. The normal pen is great too though so no fears there!
Hi, Nice review. Enjoy watching it. Did they add the screen share, projecting on a screen whatever I am drawing or writing ? And are there any subscription fee or additional fee to use any features like the Remarkable 2 ?
Very glad you liked it! They haven't got screen share yet, but the latest update improved the whole kernel of the operating system, it's so much faster now. I am think screen share will probably be along in the next update. Yeah RM 2 now has a subscription model. I have a video about that!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for the reply. I shall wait for screen share feature for academic purposes. :-) My question was : To use the handwriting conversion or /and other features, does Supernote impose a subcription fee ? Or you buy it and then all is yours ? :-) 2nd question : Papyr is it better ? Supernote looks elegent, pen looks more real. Thanks for any feedback.
@@Prasen1729 Hiya, no fees on supernote. Papyr is great, I wouldn't say better or worse. I like the big size, pen feel is great. Like having the two buttons, lots to like about both! Have you seen my videos in Papyr?
@@KitBetts-Masters Do you mean this one ? ua-cam.com/video/h0ilXBRgsSM/v-deo.html Yes. Papyr has two major advantages over Supernote A5X so far : 1. A4 size 2. The 2 screens, one for share, the other for working on. Am I right ? If Supernote A5X add these two features, I think I am gonna buy it cause it looks more beautiful if all functionalities are similar. But these advantages are big enough to change my mind. :-) But I don't see any issue with their battery as you mentioned in your video. On the website of papyr, they say 3 weeks with a single charge, which for me is superb. Maybe they improved since your video ? :-) Any other feedbacks ?
What you think about the quaderno? It has the best writing feel I know. It has the best pen with functions and like the papyr it's big and light. Will you make a review of that? Because I very liked your papyr review. But there was some points missing, like: if you zoom out from a pdf, go to the next page, is this page zoomed out too? And by this review I wanted to see the pdf reading / writing. Can you make notes like the papyr on it, zoom out and in?
Thanks so much, I'm very glad you found the review useful! I'm not sure about your question 100% but I have a feeling that after each page turn it goes to the default zoom view. I'll be making a bit of a follow up about the quirklogic at some point next term so look out for that. I did approach Fujitsu about the quaderno, but I'll maybe give them another shout now that there is a gen two out!
Awesome video. Was looking at the RM2 but seeing all the problems people are having and the lack of customer support I'm going to go for this. Do you have a referral code I could use to get a discount and to support yourself?
Hi @GorillaPhysics! Thank you for this awesome video. I was going to buy Supernote A5X, but Note Air 2 appeared in the market. Do you think it's better to switch and buy boox?
Hello! Hard decisions ahead I'm afraid! I'm just getting started to know boox, but there should be a note air 2 review on my channel in a month or so if you can wait that long?! Meanwhile I've had a look at the Nova Air, and do go into some comparisons here ua-cam.com/video/naoPjes_ZVQ/v-deo.html
Thanks, will probably keep the rM but more so I can see how the software develops and feature in future videos. But you know, I think I like this supernote better... the pen is that good!
@@KitBetts-Masters I agree. I actually got a A5X a few weeks ago and love it. I was just curious to hear from you since you've used both it and the remarkable. I have a few complaints about the A5X so far, but Supernote has said basically everything I would like to see improved, they were already developing fixes for.
@@KitBetts-Masters I'm trying to decide between the RM1 and A5X (I fear I'd drop the RM2 and break it on the first day!) Are there any features you like better on the RM1 and if so, what are they?
Was considering purchasing this but since I have to pay for import duty to the UK and there is no way for me to try this in store beforehand it’s a no for me. RM2 at least does a 100 day return
Hiya, any of the main 10.3" would be perfect, so that's remarkable 2, supernote A5X or Note Air 2. It's basically a balance between features and ease of use. Remarkable is the easiest to use, but can do it the least, boox devices can do loads but they take a bit of an learning. Supernote is a great balance between the two. Also RM great for sketching, and supernote best for writing. Detailed comparisons coming in the new year. For now I have a remarkable vs supernote video. Have you seen it!
Thank you for the fantastic review! I've been looking real hard at Remarkable2 and Supernote A5X but I cannot make up my mind, although after watching your review I think it's Supernote. However, I currently take notes on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. My primary goal is to take notes and be able to file and retrieve them easily. Having a writing experience that's most like pen (ballpoint or gel) on paper is important to me. The next thing would be to convert notes to text to share with my team. A must have is to be able to create a new note quickly during a meeting. I like the idea of not replacing nibs but not necessarily a deal breaker. I have to be able to go thru a 8 hour day of meetings on the road and not worry about charging the tablet or a pen. I need the right mix of simplicity of use and some flexibility, I don't want a complex device to have to learn multiple features. Being able to read PDF files from other sources and mark them up would be helpful. Having the ability to read a book (like on Kindle) is nice but not a requirement. I'm just concerned that I buy the Supernote A5X then they release an A4 sized device which I think I would gravitate towards (I'm just not sold on the Papyr or Quaderno). Do you have any suggestions for an undecided paper note taker?
@@alandetoma6463 I can't say for sure as I'm yet to try one. (Watch this space.) But plenty of other people like them. I would say all the devices you list are really very good. But the supernote is the only one which is going to give you that ballpoint feel!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks! I am 90% there. I'm so geeked out about it I cut out a template of the A5X size and drew the frame dimension to get a sense. I've laid that over my Cornell note paper and turns out the actual note writing area is similar its just the left margin where the Cornell method comes in that is sacrificed. This might just be workable especially if I use the finer point pen with the "tacky" ballpoint writing feel of the Supernote A5X.
@@alandetoma6463 Did you buy a Supernote? If so, could you please share your writing experience? I got a remarkable 2 but thinking to send it back if Supernote has a good writing too. Thanks.
@@KitBetts-Masters thanks so much. I spent a lot of time researching and familiarising myself with the Remarkable 2. A friend had Remarkable 1. Then the subscription came along which would add an extra nearly £100 a year. I am not working much, so just need it for todo lists, note writing on various courses I do, financial notes, organising of notes on the platform and a bit of sketching. Of all the products you know, which would you think the most suitable? Thanks so much. Amanda
They're very different TBH. I love the size of papyr, and how light it is. And the collaboration has lots of potential. The supernote is just so premium feeling.
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks so much for your reply. The supernote does look cool. Has it developed the side-by-side view feature yet? And how do they both compare for annotating pdfs. I'd be using my device for mainly reading articles and writing.
Thanks for this video. I'm still a little bit confused about what to choose..a note writting tablet or a proper tablet (iPad or a Chromebook). In fact I'm mostly tied of talking hand note during meetings and typing them again after to make them nice to be shared with other team members. Just want one device that will convert a full hand writting note in typing version almost in one clic and available to share via box/ Dropbox etc. No need for big editing or formating...like even the bullet I've put are also converted. Also no need to convert the doc steps by steps , paragraph by paragraph, word by word. Just want to same time a do other thing. What should I go for? Even if it is an apps to use etc. Thanks in advance
The Boox and Supernote recognition is best when you work line by line. Remarkable and the Kobo Elipsa is good for converting a whole document in a oner. Boox can do it, but for some reason the full page is never as accurate as the line by line. You might be interested by the voice recognition in the Boox or the bigme devices as well though. See the meeting notes feature in my bigme B1 review!
No direct experience with this, but the first thing it asks is which hand you write with so they can prioritize the palm rejection! You should be fine!
I'm a chemist and looking for e-ink option to take notes although I'm really into fountain pen and notebooks. Don't care about drawing and shading and other artisty things so I guess this is the way to go. What's your take?
Thanks for your video. I'm in the market for a note taking tablet. I have an iPad and it's amazing [of course], but it's becoming distracting with all the alert/notifications, and the temptation to use other apps. That leads me to an observation. I love that Supernote listens to its customers and implements features. That said, do you fear that if Supernote listens to EVERYTHING in an effort to beat the competition that they will make their device so fussy that it defeats the purpose of using a device void of major distractions. I'm looking at reMarkable and Supernote, and yes I've seen your video comparing the two. I love some of the features on Supernote that you can't get [currently] on reMarkable. I'm reluctant to go with the Supernote because it appears to be walking a fine line between a note taking device and an iPad type device and I don't need two iPads. I'm realizing as I type this message that I'm starting to figure out what I want. I would love to hear your thoughts on Supernote packing their device with so many features that it defeats the purpose.
Very interesting observations. You are right, what I would say is that supernote is not likely to become a notification spammer! Any apps they do I think will be done with a professional usecase in mind. They are definitely walking a fine line. But it's interesting for that reason. My suspicion is we'll see two lines of development for supernote, one simpler less powerful device with limited features and no distractions, and another (the X line) which will get closer gradually to a full Android experience.
I considered this one also, but went with RM2…the cloud integration and slim light size and the screen share were the features I really liked. Also, the ‘hack, way to get Kindle content on there is “good enough” on that front. Ultimately I hope Amazon releases an actual Kindle/notebook combo.
Thanks so much for the comment! I hope they put a screen share on supernote soon. However I wish rM screen share would work to the web app. So you don't have to install!
I’ve been binge watching your videos, you’re a great teacher! I’m leaning toward getting the Supernote but I wanted to ask about integration/ease of use with Microsoft Word. I am a writer so I want to be able to take my chapters, bring them into the Supernote and edit them to add more content/edit the already existing content. Is there a way to do that, or do I need to create a whole new document on the SN and then integrate that into my existing Word documents manually?
No you can import and then edit on the device. Then pull the edited copy down from the supernote cloud. Works a treat TBH. Even with tables etc. And the handwriting recognition is good, even offline!
Can you edit a word doc on the super note (after it has been uploaded on to the device as a pdf or other format) like the Remarkable/Remarkable 2 can? (I've seen this demonstrated in videos on the Remarkable) Because that is the major reason to actually buy the Remarkable over the Super Note (though the kindle access is a selling point with this device).
I looked at the remarkable 2, and what dissuaded me was having a monthly subscription for cloud features. I ended up buying the Supernote, haven't received it yet.
I have question tho... is the handwriting reconision based on like the english language? Does it rely on context to maybe guess what it cant recognise? I come from a non-english speaking country and wish to use this device for taking notes in school so im wondering if it will work just as well? Also does it recognise special characters like čžš
I think I'll have to have a good look at handwriting recognition in other languages and package that into a video, because I personally only have experience in English!
Knew that supermote have only 4 languages available and as I am italian I surely write in english but also need to write in italian a lot. How does this thing affect the fuctionality of this device? Does this mean that when I need to search for a translation I won’t get it? Does it mean that when I need to convert my writings into a pdf/word file there will arise problems? Thanks for yr revert on this!
Hi there, I'm not 100% sure on the languages front. And there may be plans to add more languages. Your best bet would be to get in contact with them either through their website or on Reddit or Facebook. They are very quick to respond on their channels. 🙂🦍
I heard a rumour that they might have a syncable dynamic calendar. If they do, that would be the deal maker for me. I can't find a dynamic calendar on any eink device anywhere.
Could someone help me, I'm confused by the fact that in all the reviews this product is refered to as "Supernote A5X" but on the official Supernote website all I could find was the "Supernote X series". Is this the same product? Why the different name?
My understanding is that the X series are an android based system, and the others are Linux based. Neither are "better" but the X series should allow more fully featured devices. E.g. the calendar and kindle app, which may not come to the others. Best thing to do is to message on r/supernote as they regularly reply and chat about their development plans.
My Supernote A5X will not change pages by swipping anymore. I have to use navigation arrows to change pages. I emailed Ratta but they did not respond. Very disappointing. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hiya, in my experience they've been really quick to respond to everything! Try messaging them on Facebook/Twitter or Reddit. I think they'll get back to you very quick! Good luck with that!
I got me th supernote...500$ from ratta china.....well...a great disappointment ...it s not for professional writing...it only allows one page at a time..and it takes 55seconds straight to convert 3 lines of text....plus, l cant bring in an earlier document and make it convert it....any updates on th subject?
Not yet but supernote are very good at listening to feedback, perhaps log this one with them and make a suggestion. I don't see why they couldn't make it do text recognition in the background whilst you are writing the next lines. (I'll suggest that too!)
Ah I really have a hard time deciding between this one and the Remarkable 2. Only downside is that the a5x doesn't really have all the languages supported (yet)
I just got my new AX5. When I erase or rotate an element, there is a strange ghosting image left on the background that does not go away until the unit is rebooted. The more I erase or rotate images, the more the patterns appear in the background. This is very distracting. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks for the great review! I'm currently deciding between the RM2 and the A5x. I am a university student so clearly the writing experience is an essential aspect of any device which is why I'm deciding between these two devices. However, the subscription model for RM is a big turnoff - I just wanted to know if Google Drive (or any other mainstream cloud service) is integrated into the Supernote as this is also important for me?
I'm in the same situation, except I just bought a RM2, but I'm thinking of returning it for the Supernote, because the RM2 is super limited and doesn't easily allow you to remove documents to other devices to work on. The handwriting recognition isn't good, and you can only email it to yourself, rather than edit it on the device.
@@flaggern7058 Yep, returned the RM2 and have used a Supernote A5X for about six months now, I guess, based on the timestamp. Supernote has been great, and they're much more attentive and involved with their community and have published a full development plan. You convinced me to buy the supernote and I love it. Thanks, mate!
I have the A6X and agree with all your points. Great experience that has gotten better through regular firmware updates, which have generally included new features every time. I would like the screen real-estate of an A5X though, and am considering adding one. Would keep the A6X around for travel.
Thanks so much for sharing. I don't think that there is a perfect size and just like notepads there are reasons for to own a range of sizes.
Can you please make a review for Supernote A5X for left hand people ??
Thank you for all reviews about ink tablet !!
Thank you! This helped me finally decide to buy this. I already own the latest Ipad and as a chemist and artist, it was fine but it was a little bit of a pain to bring to school in a purse. I wanted something lighter to write my notes on and A5x just seems more useable in my case :)
Really glad to have helped. The A5X is a really good choice! Let me know how you get along with it!
As an Apple fanboy, reading (or doing just about anything really) on my iPad results in eyestrain and so I went with the Supernote and there simply isn’t any eyestrain (or distractions) and it’s a wonderful reading experience.
I agree, ipad is seriuo great, but I just can't use it all day everyday!
Thanks so much Craig, difficult choices and I'm glad to help!
Thanks so much for the comment, please do let me know how you get on with it!
@Gabi Klimov Yes! Got it before an event and it worked great for me. I'm pretty basic with my use of it, but I've been really enjoying it.
@@JeremyFluhmann Great to know! Thank you for your answer. I’m looking for one to my girlfriend. Can you send notes as pdf/word files via email?
@@namadekisufa yep, you can send via attachment
Ultimately, I'm really leaning toward an rm2. They got me with their FB ads (sure I'm not alone there) and have since been researching but the Ratta and Boox alternatives are just so much more expensive.
Their ad campaigns are very strong! defo like both for different reasons!
The kindle support made choosing Rata over rm2 for me, and I'm not an artist so weighing writing over drawing did not feel i was losing features
Thanks to this video, I purchased the A5X, and I am so glad I did. I absolutely love it. Great video
Great to hear! I'm so glad you are liking it! Your experience with it would make an interesting video for your channel!
Great video, curious about the Supernote's as a PDF reader, and note taking on PDFs (specifically reading tons of academic papers)

Thank buddy! Let me know how you get on with it!
I want to transfer all of my genealogy to digital. Will be buying it soon. Thanks for helping with the decision on which device to get.
So glad to help, which one are you going with.?

Hi! Thanks for this video! I'm considering purchasing this. But the big thing for me and one of the main reasons why I would be getting it is...Can you highlight words/sentences/paragraph on the kindle part and put it on a doc or note page? I hope that makes sense. Thanks kindly!
I'd like to hear more about that Papyr device that you introduced. I'll search for content from you, others, and even the www.
I almost ordered the remarkable but knowing that this has kindle app so i can combine the two devices, well I’m sold on SuperNote
Totally. It's great for reading and writing! The remarkable is best for drawing, but I think there's an update in the offing which will improve drawing on the supernote!
Supernote, can't get the updated version to market; more than 6 months late. crazy
Thanks for the great review! I would like to know how does the e-reader app works. Can I download my pdfs from my laptop on this device?
Yes you can, ereader is just fine. Lots of file formats works and you can annotate everything! Has a Kindle app too and probably more in later updates.

I'm looking for a tablet specifically for note taking and organizing my notes. I'm a big note taker and use old-school paper notepads but I'd like the idea of being able to have my notes electronically that can be organized and have the ability to search. Which one is better for that function in terms of organizing the notes that I can also search for later on?

Hey man . Am from India can I talk to u ..
Does it recognize math formulas as well? I wonder if it can convert formulas into latex text? And Supernote A4 with ability to display handwriting on an external monitor (as you already mentioned) would be fantastic to have
No it doesn't convert maths I'm afraid, check out the Kobo Elipsa if that's something that you need!
Can you draw a perfectly straight line? I build custom cabinets and doing “scaled” field drawings of cabinets with room measurements is very important for me. I need to know if I can draw a straight line without a ruler or some other 2nd hand function? Thank you!!
any promo code ?😉
Great video thanks. Does it have a backlight?
No. Look at the box note air 2 if you need that. I'll have some videos about that device too coming soon.
Would you say the writing quality is more accurate than the Papyr?
So from my understanding, you have to pre-order it online. in order to obtain this device.
Thanks for the video (all videos, as I have watched several ones), what about using it as left handed ? Does it work as well right handed ?
Hello, yes I think they work just fine for lefties, the first question it asks is which hand you use and so it can optimise palm rejection and place tool bars etc. 😀
@@KitBetts-Masters excellent, thanks for your quick answer, appreciated ! 👌
Definitely considering purchasing this as a companion to my reMarkable 2.
It certainly is a different device. It'd be nice to have them for separate purposes! Maybe one in each bag!?
@@KitBetts-Masters Yep! I took the plunge. It'll be here next week. So we shall see how it goes. Lol
Great video! - but like some people, I am stuck between Supernote vs RM2 and Boox Max Lumi2. Have you tested/tried Boox Max Lumi2?
Just max lumi 1. But I'm sure the 2 is even better!

Yes it's quite a bit more expensive than the Remarkable 2, but will not have to buy replacement nibs or pay for a subscription in order to convert writing to text etc. So in the long run will save.
Oh there is not a subscription on supernotes?

@@KitBetts-Masters thanks, I don't see that option but assuming the one you recommend is more expensive than standard, maybe they have now renamed it to LAMY AL-star (i see you make a reference to it feeling similar to such a pen)
@@carltaylor-beeby3196 Nope, that's a separate pen that they work with LAMY to package in sometimes. There should be HoM, but perhaps they aren't available at the minute. The normal pen is great too though so no fears there!

Hi,
Nice review.
My question was : To use the handwriting conversion or /and other features, does Supernote impose a subcription fee ? Or you buy it and then all is yours ? :-)
2nd question : Papyr is it better ? Supernote looks elegent, pen looks more real.

@@Prasen1729 Hiya, no fees on supernote.
Papyr is great, I wouldn't say better or worse. I like the big size, pen feel is great. Like having the two buttons, lots to like about both! Have you seen my videos in Papyr?
@@KitBetts-Masters Do you mean this one ? ua-cam.com/video/h0ilXBRgsSM/v-deo.html
Yes. Papyr has two major advantages over Supernote A5X so far :
1. A4 size
2. The 2 screens, one for share, the other for working on.
Am I right ?
If Supernote A5X add these two features, I think I am gonna buy it cause it looks more beautiful if all functionalities are similar.
But these advantages are big enough to change my mind. :-)
But I don't see any issue with their battery as you mentioned in your video. On the website of papyr, they say 3 weeks with a single charge, which for me is superb. Maybe they improved since your video ? :-)
Any other feedbacks ?
@@Prasen1729 yes that's right. I made an updated Papyr video called "problems solved" where I've talked about their improvements!

I am interested in exporting notes in my handwriting (not converting it into digi text). How does that work with Supernote vs Remarkable?
What would you recommend for a upper high school student? She is wanting a digital note pad /e-ink rather than carrying around multiple note books.
Also the boox devices can record audio notes as well within the notebooks, so that could be a very powerful feature for students!

I'm not sure, but I doubt Supernote will have an A4 device any time soon. Have you looked at the boox max line?

@@alandetoma6463 I can't say for sure as I'm yet to try one. (Watch this space.) But plenty of other people like them. I would say all the devices you list are really very good. But the supernote is the only one which is going to give you that ballpoint feel!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks! I am 90% there. I'm so geeked out about it I cut out a template of the A5X size and drew the frame dimension to get a sense. I've laid that over my Cornell note paper and turns out the actual note writing area is similar its just the left margin where the Cornell method comes in that is sacrificed. writting tablet or a proper tablet (iPad or a Chromebook).
In fact I'm mostly tied of talking hand note during meetings and typing them again after to make them nice to be shared with other team members.

Yeah it's basically that size. I wouldn't hold your breath for an A4 from them, but I'd love it if they did!
I'm a chemist and looking for e-ink option to take notes although I'm really into fountain pen and notebooks. Don't care about drawing and shading and other artisty things so I guess this is the way to go. What's your take?
💯. I think this is right for you. Have you checked out my other comparisons between supernote and remarkable?
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/yfK3YCXujxA/v-deo.html
Is there an option to change the color of the ink? Or can it only be black?
No, I think that it is just shades of grey on this one!
@@KitBetts-Masters that’s a bummer. If you come across any of these tablets that has a multi color feature, i hope you’ll be able to review it
Thanks for your video.
"I hope Amazon releases an actual Kindle/notebook combo." I had never thought about this.... seems logical.
One year later, it's a reality (Kindle Scribe).
@@KitBetts-Masters this is fantastic news, thank you! Does the Supernote have the option to add a Bluetooth keyboard?
Hey mate, my A5x (just bought) does "pixelate" on pdf export. Am I doing something wrong? Cheers
Can you edit a word doc on the super note (after it has been uploaded on to the device as a pdf or other format) like the Remarkable/Remarkable 2 can? (I've seen this demonstrated in videos on the Remarkable)
Because that is the major reason to actually buy the Remarkable over the Super Note (though the kindle access is a selling point with this device).
You can edit it if you lose it as a word doc. You can annotate on pdf on supernote just as you would on remarkable.
@@KitBetts-Masters Thank you!
Can you read and make notes in PDF files on this device?
You can indeed. It's perfect for that infact!
I looked at the remarkable 2, and what dissuaded me was having a monthly subscription for cloud features. I ended up buying the Supernote, haven't received it yet.
Great! I hope you enjoy it, ( I think you will! ) Let me know how you go please!
Is there an app phone to find our notes writed on the tablet??
Yep, the supernote partner app I think it's called!
But I think it almost certainly must use a certain amount of context because it gets even properly scruffy words right more often than not!
“Ghosting “ on the screen? Is that what I am doing wrong? Cannot seem to get my notes back. Lost twice.
No ghosting just refers to when you can just see a little of what was on the screen before. It's an inherent problem with eink displays.
Have you written to supernote about the issue?
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for response, I figured out my error, still getting used to the device. Thanks for your video
I wonder how great the handwriting to text conversion works on French and others languages ?
Or is it only for english, japanese and Chinese??
Sorry, not sure, anyone out there in the comments have any experience in the other languages?
Do you really need a refill for the pen?
No! It never wears out. They sell them incase of damage i suppose!
I was wondering about using it to read PDFs and how does it handles graphics embedded in them
Yeah, graphics look just fine, obviously anything with colour won't be great but it deals with photos and diagrams just fine!
@@KitBetts-Masters yes photos, diagrans and blueprints and so on. Thank you for your feedback!!!!
Anyone have alternative pens and folios for the supernote a5x? Would really help reduce the cost
Any Tips on how to prepare for A Level Physics As i have just done AS level edexcel in may waiting for results in August
Yes, loads! I'm going to be releasing a new video soon, but in the meanwhile. ua-cam.com/video/dXxjWB5EQo4/v-deo.html
I heard a rumour that they might have a syncable dynamic calendar. If they do, that would be the deal maker for me. I can't find a dynamic calendar on any eink device anywhere.
If by dynamic you mean you can sync up Google calendar or outlook? Then yep. It works great!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thx for your quick response!!
Does it work with one note?
No, unfortunately!
@@KitBetts-Masters BUMMER!
The basic device A5X is £340 as at 4Jan2021.
It's not an easy choice!
I just got my new AX5. When I erase or rotate an element, there is a strange ghosting image left on the background that does not go away until the unit is rebooted. The more I erase or rotate images, the more the patterns appear in the background. This is very distracting. Has anyone else noticed this?
Does it go away of you swipe up on the right hand side bar. (Refreshes screen.).
I've not noticed this. Write to them, I'm sure they'll respond!
@@plutopsyche Did you? I want to know if I should do the same
@@flaggern7058 Yep, returned the RM2 and have used a Supernote A5X for about six months now, I guess, based on the timestamp. Supernote has been great, and they're much more attentive and involved with their community and have published a full development plan. If you're planning to use the tablet to write, definitely get a Supernote.
@@plutopsyche I guess you did compare Remarkable 2 and Supernote. Could you share your writing experience? I got a remarkable 2 but thinking to return and get a Supernote. But the writing is really good in remarkable 2. I am wondering if Supernote is almost same as remarkable. Thanks.
@@wenyanwang219 I don't know whether RM2 has improved, but I do not regret my decision to get a Supernote. The ability to convert handwriting to text and edit them as I go has been invaluable for me.
