I’ve been wanting a remarkable 2 all year and was just about to buy it when I saw a subreddit of concerns about the subscription. This review was absolutely perfect, and now I’m going to go with the Supernote!! You really hit the right categories, and I LOVE the calendar addition! Thank you!!
Brilliant, I think it is a great tool, with just the right digital features to be really very useful for professional people! Let me know how you are finding it?!
Same here. Really fell in love with the idea of the remarkable, but after researching the market, it just seems like the supernote takes the cake. At least in my opinion. Can't wait to receive my supernote in the new year.
Same as well, I really wanted the reMarkable so much and now I'm going to go with the Supernote! The super note is also $300 (AUD) cheaper than the reMarkable so it's a win win for me! Thankyou so much for this fantstic review.
As so many others, I was considering a remarkable 2. As a student in university, I mostly will use this device for note taking. Also, I prefer writing with a pen. The functionality of the supernote seems more up my alley. Thanks for the detailed break down. I appreciate the honesty.
I bought the RM2 - didnt research too much just liked how it was sold to me . And then, after having the device I found I needed way more functionality {and a pen holder on the folio} was all essential for me. I am currently awaiting my A5X. I went with it because of the calendar, the ceramic non replaceable nibs/writing experience, customizable templates, AND, a mega and, seeing Ratta publish their roadmap gave me a huge push to their product. If you look at the roadmap, by 2022 this device will be the superb e-ink device as it matches Papyr in quirky features. And that was a huge buying decision for me. I really appreciate this video! I do wish I would have saw it about two weeks ago; would have saved me time on buyer's indecision lol. But, great upload, very well detailed.
PS. because you made such an well-needed video in this space, I gave you a like and a subscribe.. Whoop; I've seen most of your other videos, so #ItsTime
Thanks so much for the detailed reply. Remarkable have done such a great job of marketing eink tablets, but when you look into it there are loads of great options out there! Great story and thanks for watching my videos!
I don’t think they will hit their roadmap targets. But that is not so important. What is important is that they are transparent on where they want to go. Something remarkable still not done 3 (or I sit 4) y post its original release.
@@litjellyfish Ratta's track record suggest that they will reach many of those targets, even if they have to keep adjusting the road map as they do the work. It's pretty rare that a particular goal is dropped altogether rather than deferred or modified.
I've said this before and I'll say it again - the fact that you have to hack a remarkable just to get basic functionality is a deal breaker on a device with that price tag.
@@KitBetts-Masters well from start almost 3 years (or is it 4) since I got mine. Very little has changed for the better. Their support is non existing. I work as professional product owner for design software and sent a breakdown of features and improvements to them without even getting a “we got your mail” reply. Amazing hardware. So so UI and tool and shifty customer support.
I bought a Supernote A5X two months ago and I have used it everyday ever since. I love it. It has made my work a lot simpler and I find the device super intuitive.
I got a remarkable2 as a gift (I chose it actually) and feels like they really have a tunnel vision when it comes to this product. For what they try to do, they do really well. And I get that feature creep is a problem. But there are just no features. Like you said they barely tried to make the paper notebook any better, except for maybe combining all the tools and notebooks into one. But last week I ended up ordering an A6X and already I’m impressed. I’m a former Lamy fountain pen user and the Lamy pen feels right at home in my hands. The size is better for everyday carry. I love having handwriting as an input method, and I love that it’s small enough for me to carry around. And it’s so customizable without hacks. I hand wrote a custom screensaver that had my contact details in case I lose it. That just can’t be beat. I also have so many custom templates already. Haven’t even used their more advanced features like keywords or TOC. Also love that they have a calendar. It isn’t the most power calendar out there but it’s there and does what it should. Feels like I can put down my smartphone more often. I might still keep the RM for longer form writing as the A6X is really small. But the RM feels too large, heavy and fragile to just toss into a messenger bag and write down quick thoughts. And also it drives me up the wall that the marker is attached magnetically. It’s also my one big gripe with the iPad. Feels like they’re trying so hard to be apple. It just falls off all the time and their folio up is no help. I’m glad Supernote has an out of the box solution for keeping all your gear together.
Thanks for the really interesting and thoughtful comment. In a way it seems like remarkable friend more time telling us that new features are coming than actually bringing them! Very much hope you continue to enjoy your eink tablets!
A5X…for those who write! Been watching your videos on these that you’ve been making over the course of a year and I’m glad to see how consistent the thoughts have been. Super helpful!
The Remarkable, which I was going to purchase today, is no longer in the running after seeing this review. I choose... the Supernote if buying today, but your comments on the Papyr have now researching that one. Sadly, it's writing capabilities are not up to par just yet, but academia leanings of mine mean I will be strongly consider investing in one and riding the waves of its updates. So thanks for that.
Wonderful comparison! I have been on the fence about this purchase, primarily because of the cost. If I’m going to spend that kind of money I want to make a good decision. For me, it’s going to be the Supernote. I am a writer, not a sketcher, and I like the Kindle integration. Thanks so much!
Excellent video! I was thinking of purchasing the Remarkable for my wife, but after watching your video, I'm leaning toward the Supernote. I love they share their software development roadmap so you can see which features customers are asking for.
I've been wanting something like this, but I had my doubts about reMarkable, not feeling it was quite right, but Supernote seems to be moving in the right direction of what I might want, especially the A6X, which is more the size I'd prefer, as well as having some other features I find appealing. Thanks for a very good video.
Thanks so much for the great video. I had been viewing a lot of videos and had even tried the Onyx Note. Most reviewers seemed to focus on the Remarkable and Onyx but Remarkable seems too closed off and Onyx gave me a bad vibe with how it handled certain things including the Kindle app. But your video really laid out that for my interest in a digital notepad and a kindle replacement, the Supernote seems to be the way to go.
@@KitBetts-Masters The pen, the look of it and the fact that it doesn't have to be replaced. Also, the fact that their customer support is continuously improving and listening to feedback. Plus the fact that they don't require a subscription.
Thank you so much that you put the perspective on so many aspects of use. For me personally the hand writing experience is the main decission point. As the supernote comes with better integration to other functionalities like kindle books and MS office I am glad I've spend the time with your review and now decided for the supernote.
Absolutely agree, I think that distinction between pencil and pen is a good decision point to go by. You'll probably prefer all the features of the Supernote if you like that pen feel, as it will be more, in that mindset of a writer, and the remarkable will be more in the mindset of some one who sketches ideas out.
@@KitBetts-Masters now I got my supernote but guess what: handwriting conversion is fine for English written texts but fail total for German. So I have to return it and will try the remarkable2 instead, which comes with handwriting to text conversion for 33 languages. What was really a good experience to use my Montblanc Wacom stylus, this is much smoother than the Lamy they delivered with the supernote.
Your reviews have been super helpful for me. I take plenty of notes (been doing it for nearly 30 years now) and I need to get more organised with my notes. Supernote A6x sounds like the device for me. Thank you for your reviews!
I have been pondering rather painfully over the RM2 or SNA5X for a week or two but today I have an answer. This is one of the few review vids that discuss what I wanted to hear. I will be going for the SN5X for sure now thanks to your rather excellent work here. Thanks for sharing. -Time. An inconvenience created by Humankind -
I'd add a Boox device to your options. I use the Note Air a lot, esp for its off line fully searchable notes, it's the killer feature the moved me away from reMarkable. Though I'd maybe go for a Note model over the Air for durability and weight now. Miss the remarkable feel and simplicity though.
Thanks mate, I have been debating between the two and this comprehensive video really tipped me in the direction best for me. Supernote A6 X due to my focus being solely on note taking and ease of cataloguing for easy access
Thank you - I had the remarkable in my cart when I saw your video - the supernote definitely is more of what I am looking for - your review was very thorough & succinct thank you again!!
Thanks so much for the comment! Glad the video was helpful. I have a few follow up videos of you wanted to check them before you finally take the plunge!?
Would love to see a closer look at the software, specifically in relation to writing (control of pen styles etc, editing, lines, shapes). So for example, I use a 12 inch iPad with Paperlike screen protector. My handwriting in GoodNotes is far better than in Notability, and it's really terrible with the standard Apple note taking app.
Great examination. I prefer my reMarkable 1 over the 2 (gave that to my daughter) mostly due to its lightness and durability (no glass, near unbreakable) and suits my outdoor workspaces etc. Too worried I'd drop the rm2 and break it etc. Also.. buttons! (works with gloves etc) :-)
I've never really heard anyone talk about printing from these devices. Do they support printing over wifi, or do we need to export to a device which does support wireless printing?
Thanks for this review! It stands out and highlights the stuff that is important to me .. and I have to mention that you also have a very good presenting qualities..
Thanks for the informative vid, I was looking into the remarkable as I constantly make notes for uni and work but im now swaying more towards the Supernote!
I ended up buying a rm2. I still don’t know if actually an eink screen is suitable for me (now I’m starting to study surgery and pathology so probably color images will be important for me). My idea is that if I like it probably sent it back and buy a supernote a5x or stay with my beloved books. I didn’t take in consideration the papyr because i’m also going to use the device to take notes during clinical practices. Hope that my experience will help someone, I’ll add my consideration here during time
Thanks Mario! I hope I helped you make that decision! Definitely lots of reasons to buy either! Please do share with us how you get along with the RM2. 😁🦍
I’m really torn myself. I just started paying attention and building interest in these notepad replacement tablets in the past week, and after watching over a dozen YT vids, I’m still going back and forth on which one of these two I want to get. Can someone with working knowledge help lean me in an even more informed direction? Aesthetically, I really like the look of RM2 over the SN. I’m not a sketch artist but occasionally I need some room for doodling with my IT job. I’m very big on planners and lists and random thoughts I want to jot down. The other two things that are important to me as are the ease of creating tags&favorites to quickly recall notes via searching key words; I feel like the SN leans better that way? Also, not a deal breaker, but an advantage, is being able to sync my google calendar with my notepad tablet; again, I believe the SN has the functionality over RM2? What also is important to me will be annotating and transferring PDF files for work between tablet laptop; I believe both RM2 & SN get this job done? I’m not too concerned with the price of each, and not overly concerned with the (new) $2.99 Connect subscription fee after a year. Can someone with working knowledge or either or both help point me in either direction?
@@KitBetts-Masters I have ordered the Supernote. 5 . I am trying to cut down on my practitioner files, and keep my professional notes in a place where l can find them. I figured if l use OCR it will also compact my scrawl and reduce file size, l don’t want to start scanning paper to reduce volume and help with easy access. Time saving is big for me.
Hi, your videos are great and really informative. I am new to the e-ink world and looking at the Remarkable 2 due to its great price (£300) compared to the others. I do see that most of the poor ratings of the Remarkable come from it lacking some functionality but I do see it’s had some recent updates and it has me wondering that with the introduction of tagging etc is the Remarkable now closer to the Supernote?
I have the reMarkable 2. I enjoy it and I love the pen but I've been wondering if I should have done more research. For what I wanted it for, it works for me. No distractions. No apps to distract me, no messages ad social media etc. But now I'm starting to see that the process to get things from my tablet to my computer is way too complicated. Lol and getting ebooks on it has been an adventure all by itself. The templates are lacking and a better planner or calendar feature would be great. Anywho, I'm rambling. Thanks for the video. I guess a 2nd e-ink tablet wouldn't hurt.
Haha, well yes that's been my thoughts! I'll be featuring the supernote A6X soon if you fancied something smaller with some of those features to go along side your remarkable!
Check out My Daily Organizer - it is a great planner and not more expensive than a paper planner. It was created by Voja (My Deep Guide channel creator). it's better than any planner I've ever used, paper or no
I am a de hard handwritten note taker in meetings, but my biggest complaint has always been that I can't "Ctrl+F" my notes to find something I took down weeks ago, so I started receiving ads for the remarkable 2 and the Supernote. I am so glad I found your extensive comparison. Just based on the search and keyword functionality alone, I will be getting the Supernote. I also prefer pen to paper as opposed to pencil and have no reason to draw or integrate my notes with Microsoft Office apps. I really just need something to replace a notebook that is more professional in appearance, doesn't waste paper, combines my notebook AND my calendar planner, and allows me to setup specific notebooks and search within them. Thank you so much! This was extremely helpful!
I was thinking of buying the remarkable 2 for so long... But then the subscription happened, that locks all the things I need for my workflow behind another paywall. I think the device itself is way to expensive to add another payment layer into of it for things like OCR and file share to cloud Services. So...I'll stick to what I have... Neosmart pen. Real paper, real pen, still digital. And even though it adds some extra steps to my workflow, it works. I am just not saving as much paper as I wished 😳
@@KitBetts-Masters will have a look at that, thank you. But it's not about the money for me, really. Buying the paper for neosmart can get expensive as well. I probably would spent less with the remarkable subscribtion. But it's the stuff that they offer. Cloud sync to your own (also paid) google drive? OCR? Calendar syncing? I don't know why, but i feel those are services that naturally should belong to a device like that. It's like buying a knife and then having to go to sharpen it somewhere else... Haha
The heart yearns the remarkable2, the mind knows it's the Supernote A5X. Given the attitudes of both companies towards their customers and the public and the future product plans, it will be the A5X.
I so sad I didn't come across you review before purchasing the remarkable 2. I use mine for academic purposes. I had no idea that piger one existed. I also loved the supernote for organizational purposes but I do love using Mt remarkable.for drawing. It's a tough choice between the three.
I saw the RM2 ad and I was really impressed by the whole idea. I am a uni student, I work, I freelance and I write constantly and a digital notebook is literally what I needed. However, after watching quite few reviews and comparisons, I went with the Supernote. It just brings so many more features and constant updates, while the remarkable just lost me with that subscription model in order to use basic features that are included in the Supernote (and much more). Very excited to receive it and start using the Supernote 😊 thank you for your review
@@AlongtheRiverLife I study linguistics so I don't know about equations. I recommend going through Facebook groups, it's where I did the majority of my research before buying the Supernote. Good luck! :)
@@AlongtheRiverLife yeah, brilliant for writing out bits of maths. Check out the logo elipsa though, as it can do text recognition on maths equations, I don't know how reliable it is though!
I have a reMarkable 2 because the Supernote was not available in my country, but I wish I ordered the Supernote anyway. The remarkable thing about the reMarkable 2 is that it can’t do even basic things. You can’t even draw a straight line without carrying a plastic ruler with you, which is ridiculous. I agree that handwriting recognition on the reMarkable 2 is good, but requires both an internet connection and a monthly subscription, and the editing features on the converted text are so limiting, that all it is good for is as a bullet point in the sales material. I still enjoy my reMarkable 2 for taking notes - it beats having 400 crumpled paper notes in a drawer, but it is immensely disappointing that they go out of their way to make it utterly useless for anything else. You can’t even write your own software for it without risking bricking it. I will not pay a subscription nor will I ever buy something from reMarkable again until they can do basic things like drawing a line. Thank you for this review.
How does it look like when you export the notes? Do both devices export hand written notes as hand written or do they try to convert them into digital writing?
They can both convert handwriting to text but they do it in different ways. I'll show that in a video coming soon. They both look great exported. But always quite different to on the screen!
I wish I'd seen this before buying the Remarkable 2! I'm a writer, can't sketch worth a darn. The functionality I really miss is when I annotate a PDF, I can't do OCR on those annotations. For this, I'll probably fall back to my Kindle Paperwhite, although that's not as easy to do annotations as is the Remarkable.
If you bought the RM2 directly from them, they have a 100-day trial period policy- you can return it within 100 days. I bought one and did not research well enough. Thankfully watched this video and will now return it, and most likely will be the supernote instead.
Hello this is a very sound review. I am leaning towards the Supernote. What would you recommend for a college student who already has a Windows PC, should I go with the Supernote or iPad?
Great video mate. It would be great if you could do a comparison between Supernote A5X and one of Onyx's devices. Boox tablets run a full version of Android and they are something in-between Supernote and iPad, hence they could be a better option for productivity with an e-ink display. BTW, you've got a beautiful voice. If you did documentaries, I would happily watch all of them. :)
There is a update for Boox coming to match the update on the newly announced devices. The pen control interface seems much improved. I like my Note Air but it's a quirky thing with various interface inconsistencies , a mish mash. New update improves a lot of my niggles with it. So be good to get your opinions of it if you get a Boox device.
@@KitBetts-Masters Apparently the new Note Air will have a more paperlike screen protector that apparently shouldn't be removed. The original Note Air of last year definitely improved the writing feel drastically with a paperlike screen protector (I eventually got the very expensive doodroo, but it's worth every penny). I use it now with felt nibs in a Wacom One pen (with eraser button) as well as a RM Signature pen and really love the feel, though I understand that Supernote and RM will still offer a better experience.
Hey great review, thank you for taking the time, really beneficial!! A couple questions, does the Supernote have a web browser and does the kindle app have that feature that kindle does where you can click on a word a get its definition?
But tags on remarkable are good now, and tables of contents are good on supernote. Supernote now has handwriting recognition in the background which is cool as fudge. And the Boox has a global Handwritten note search.
I am looking to use it in a few ways. Considering two devices because of my different needs. A place to keep 100 passwords off line that does not get lost and can be edited. If I use on line, A way to screen share as an overlay to CAD. I know the remarkable can be screen share, but have to pay each month to use that and not sure if the screen share can be overlayed on other programs on a PC. For the super note, I have no Idea if I can screen share at all yet, much less overlay with a CAD program. Also looking for Music notation and saving of song lyrics.
Hiya, supernote plans adding screen share in a future update. Remarkable can share but just to the desktop app. The boox note air 2 or max lumi 2 screen shares via build in app and that might be a good shout. It's the most versatile, but most complex to use. Also the bigger screen boox max lumis might be good for your music use! Reviews and comparisons of those coming soon on GorillaPhysics!
How does the supernote do with editing a paper. I need to grade and mark up papers and then email them back to them. The idea is that they would send me a PDF of a paper assignment, then I can grade/mark up the paper. Can I do that on Supernote? Thanks for the great review, top notch!
Thanks for the comment! Your probably upload them via supernote web app, or download them on the email on the device. Then send them back via one of the two ways above.
That's fair. Just received my remarkable, I started to take notice of the supernote from your videos after I ordered the remarkable, I got comforted in my choice since I'm more of a doodle that a note-taker/writer. :)
Hi, great review! Just one question. If I upload a pdf file and write notes on it, can i both resend the edited pdf with my notes on it, and also just download the notes separately to my pdf document? Thanks!
Hiya, they pretty much all just keep the notes as a layer on top of the pdf, so yes you could remove or separate them. It might depend on the software you receive the pdf into on the pc, but you could certainly do it on the device! Thanks for comment!
The supernote A5x looks much thicker than Remarkable 2, may i know what is the thickness of Supernote A5x? Does the surface feel like paper when u write on it? I've been waited to get a R2 and i thought i can go without subscription until i saw that it only hv 8GB storage
I own the reMarkable 1 and love it. I was thinking of upgrading to the 2, but the subscription structure has turned me off, given that some features I have on the 1 would disappear on the 2 unless I bought a Connect package?! I'm really liking what I've seen and heard about the Supernote A5X. In fact, I'm really jonesing for it. Thanks for the information.
Hiya. I think I'm right in saying that as you've owned the remarkable 1 you'll always have a full connect account with nothing to pay. Even on your new device. That being said the supernote is a great option too and has more features as standard. Might be worth getting one and seeing how you get along.
How do these two tablets compare with respect to copying, highlighting and annotating text in PDF files? From what I understand they both have PDF annotation capabilities, but are they up to scratch to allow for reading academic papers?
Thanks @@KitBetts-Masters for your swift reply! Yes, the size is one of my concerns, but also the actual capabilities with respect to PDF annotations. So, in a bit another comparison of the reMarkable vs the Fujitsu Quaderno (ua-cam.com/video/L9x8C2R7U0A/v-deo.html, time 5:15), it was pointed out that the reMarkable would be quite "sloppy" w.r.t. highlighting text. In particular, the Quaderno was able to "snap" to the text it was highlighting, whereas the reMarkable would rather "add a layer" on top of the actual text. When exporting the highlighted PDF from the reMarkable this would lead to an additional layer of annotations/highlights on top of the actual page, while with the Quaderno it would simply be a regular annotation in the PDF file. In a typically workflow for reading academic papers, the latter is highly desirable, while the former would inevitable lead to quite a mess. My specific question in this regard would be if there has been an update w.r.t. to this for the reMarkable and whether the Supernote A5X would do better in this regard?
Do you think the Supernote would work for writing a novel and converting the handwriting to text? Also is the Supernote available in the UK? It would be good to actually go into a store and try them! Thanks for a great video :)
Yes it would. But don't expect to write pages then convert it all at once, more like handwriting is your input method, and you'll write one sentence at a time. They have an EU store now... not sure if we're covered in that... I'll check.
I've just ordered a SuperNote. I have decided to pivot as I have no space for notebooks for my creative writing. I never realised that this hobby would be so expensive. I'm also hoping I don't get a whopping VAT bill when it arrives....
@@KitBetts-Masters thank you. Got it and like the digest feature. Is it embedded within the epub or pdf itself. Is it transferable to cloud or other supernote devices. Writing feels nice, I have used rM 1 and boox note pro. But I like wiring on supernote (also I have iPad 12.9 with paper like, but not as good as supernote). I hope this can be one device for non academic reading and Kindle plus note taking.
@@hussainmahmoud7881 thanks! Yep, the digest is cool isn't it?! Not sure if it can go across devices. Your best bet is to ask on their Reddit or Facebook group as they usually respond pretty quick! Thanks for sharing!
Hiya, I have a detailed comparison of remarkable vs iPad and and iPad Vs everything else video that might help! Conclusions will be pretty similar for supernote Vs iPad!
This was so helpful, thank you! I am closer to pulling the trigger on the SN. I wish they would add color options for when I need to draw diagrams. I'm not an artist but I am very visual and color would have me telling them to just take my money-lol!
Haha, I think colour eink will get better in the next few years, but many people think it's not quite good enough now. Hopefully I'll get my mits on a colour device soon and let you all know my thoughts. 🦍😀
I wish I'd seen this video before I ordered my RM2. As I wrote to Dan (below), my use case is as a notebook as I am not an artist. I've been using my RM2 for a month now and it is a marvelous (if expensive) device. I have notebooks for all of my projects (free lance engineer) and keep my Bullet Journal on the device. Although I love my fountain pens and miss using them in the BuJo, an e-ink notebook just makes more sense. I have other notebooks other than the BuJo and last year I found I had a hundred sheets of A5 notes clipped together into "notebooks" on project work. Therefore, I decided I needed to change my approach. Remarkable has been bombarding me with ads on IG and FB and I finally took the bait. Now I've ordered a SN and should take delivery in a day or two. Is there a way to migrate notebooks from the RM2 to the SN? That would be a great utility if there is one. Thanks for the video. Yours are quite good and to the point, which I appreciate.
Great comment! Many thanks! That would be a useful utility. Worth suggesting to them to be fair, a bit of a make it easy to switch job! I agree, that the supernote is an ideal digital bujo!
can any of these devices have a wired connection option for those who do not tolerate WiFi radiation and/or does not live in an area with mobile connectivity??
Great video! Be interested to hear what you make of the Boox Max Lumi, which I use for more academic papers. I own the Supernote A5X as well and prefer that for epub reading.
Please Sir, can you do a video on The chain fountain phenomenon, also known as the self-siphoning beads, Newton's beads or the Mould effect. Thank you 😊
Brilliant video, incredibly helpful. Would you recommend the supernote (or any e ink device) for a university student? The price is holding me back but right now I’m using so much paper and it’s hard to keep it organized.
I really would recommend it, you are right they are not cheap! If I were a student though I would definitely have an inexpensive thin and light laptop, (maybe even Chromebook,) and an eink device rather than keep paper notes. But there are so many variables that would make your choose one thing over another!
@@KitBetts-Masters I have a Kindle but it only supports MOBI and EPOB. Reading pdf is annoying on it because you have to zoom it in and out and scroll left and right. I liked the Supernote but as you said it has the same problem viewing pdf. Which e tablet for reading and note taking you recommend with reflowing function?
UnReMarkable!!! I ordered a reMarkable2 a bout a month ago. Loved the physical and visual aesthetic. Had nothing but troubles moving forward. Screen freezes made for unworkflow. Tech support suggested a factory reset. No help whatsoever. Occasionally it worked perfectly, only to revert back being totally non responsive to hand gestures. When I tried to navigate using the pen it would go to the page and then the screen would flash and it would go to a different page. Today it went back to Hong Kong for a refund. Last night my Super Note arrived. What a breath of fresh air. So smooth and responsive plus a whole slew of things the RM2 couldn’t even dream of. A loop on the cover! Praise be! It’s so far superior at every level, but I still prefer the look and feel of the RM2, but I bought this for functionality not for looks. I haven’t heard of any weird complaints about the glitchy behavior like what I experienced, but I’m so grateful it happened because otherwise I would have never discovered the Super Note.
Thanks so much for your useful comment. Unfortunately I have heard of a few similar things. There are bound to be a few faulty units of course, and it's all about how the company responds. The rM 2 is a beautiful thing, but I have a feeling that supernote will be releasing some more aesthetically pleasing devices soon. And you are right, the little things on the accessories are splendid!
@@KitBetts-Masters what do you mean by that? like the word app on the pad? so if i hand write it all in the word app, the word app will convert all the writing into text?
I have the supernote. I like it but the fact that the system isn't available in portuguese language is very bad because the OCR does not work with some especial characters
Is A2 physics supposed to be a huge step up from AS? I'm doing the full course in a year, completed the AS content during summer and got like 90 percent on all AS papers. Now i'm on thermal physics and ideal gases and the questions are literally impossible.
Yeah, massive step up. You can do it though buddy. If you've managed to do the AS stuff that quickly you'll soon get the hang of the full a level stuff. Great comparison! I have the same two e-ink tablet and I have the same conclusion ! Recently the new Kindle 5 will release, I just try to review how the Kindle app works on my Super note A5x, I realized it's really perfect feeling, the fond size and the read feeling is wonderful, so I consider I don't need to buy one new 6.8-inch kindle because my Super note a5x really work so good, right now there lots of friends very confused about the new big size kindle. Maybe you can have one new video compile the reading feeling between reading on a Kindle device and reading a Kindle book from the Kindle app which work on Super note A5x device for them, they will very appreciate for your advice.
Yes, I would definitely recommend it for that. If I were back at university one of these would be in my must haves! Have you seen the latest comparison video? ua-cam.com/video/BLNY8umHzVE/v-deo.html
@@KitBetts-Masters I have watched a few of your other videos and found them very helpful. A good tonic to the Deep Guide! A decision draws close, but I think the Supernote suits my needs best, though I'd like to own a Remarkable 2!
@@Imperceptible_parachute Hi Dan. I really think the choice depends on your use scenario and whether you're OK with a subscription model. I bought a RM2 in December, took delivery in January, and used it heavily all month. I'm a note taker and not much of a sketcher. I do make working sketches for engineering projects, but I am no artist. What I miss in the RM2 is the lack of links into my notebooks, so I can find what I'm looking for rapidly. The onus is on the user to organize their notes and notebooks in a searchable way so that then can find things they need. That's much like the notes-on-paper approach (which I want to leave behind). I ordered a SNA5x several weeks ago and should take delivery today or tomorrow. I expect that the SN will fit my use case better than the RM2 for the primary reason above. I should not that I'm a Bullet Journal user and have been working on paper with that approach for several years. I prefer that approach over paper or digital planners because it is dynamic and not locked into a certain approach. Either device will support that use, but I think the SN will do it better than the RM2. I will know in a few weeks. I hope this helps you on your journey.

Thankyou so much for this fantstic review.
yeah .. their "everything as live service" model ... will be anathema to everyone who has seen how that model wreck the gaming sector .....
As so many others, I was considering a remarkable 2. As a student in university, I mostly will use this device for note taking. Also, I prefer writing with a pen. The functionality of the supernote seems more up my alley. Thanks for the detailed break down. I appreciate the honesty.
Thanks so much, stop by and let me know how you get on with it!
@@blitherithicus yeah with hit I mean tile wise. Not feature wise :)
I've said this before and I'll say it again - the fact that you have to hack a remarkable just to get basic functionality is a deal breaker on a device with that price tag.
100%. I think they'll get there with the software eventually, but they are well behind.
Thanks so much. Glad to help!
This is the first time I listen to the Supernote. Thanks for the amazing comparison.
My pleasure, thanks and glad to help! I have a playlist all about them! Hold on...

I bought reMarkable 2 one month ago, and I am very happy with my acquisition. Still have a lot to explore, though.
This video was the tipping point for me to get Supernote because I love to write and that I'm bad at drawing. Thank you for this sound comparison!
Really glad to help! Let me know how well you get along with your supernote when it arrives!
Thats it, im getting a supernote. Thank you for these videos, brother. Super helpful. And you have the most pleasant voice!
Thank bud, what swayed it in the end?
@@KitBetts-Masters The pen, the look of it and the fact that it doesn't have to be replaced. Also, the fact that their customer support is continuously improving and listening to feedback. Plus the fact that they don't require a subscription.
Thank you for your videos. After the recent Remarkable decision, I just sent back mine to get a Supernote A5X.
Let me know how you get on with it!
I was about to purchase the Remarkable until I found your review. I prefer pen to paper over pencil when writing. Thank you for an outstanding review!
Glad you liked it and hope you get on well with the supernote! Let me know how you do get on with it!
Your reviews have been super helpful for me. I take plenty of notes (been doing it for nearly 30 years now) and I need to get more organised with my notes. Supernote A6x sounds like the device for me. Thank you for your reviews!
Sounds perfect! Glad to have helped, please do let me know what you think of it when you've had a chance to play with it for a bit!
Just ordered the Supernote. Can't wait to jump into it.
Wish you joy of it. Read the manual!
Brilliant breakdown of these devices, super informative what the strengths and weaknesses are for both, thank you!
Thanks for this comparison. I found it really helpful as I'd not heard of the SuperNote and really appreciate some of the features you mentioned.
Yep, Supernote is a firm favourite of many for very good reason. I have a few more recent comparisons in my channel if you wanted to explore more,
I have been pondering rather painfully over the RM2 or SNA5X for a week or two but today I have an answer. This is one of the few review vids that discuss what I wanted to hear. I will be going for the SN5X for sure now thanks to your rather excellent work here.
Thanks for sharing.

So very glad to help, please do check back in and let me know how you get along with your device!
Yeah, it's top for that and a digital notebook at that size is fab.
Yeah I think the remarkable 1 is still a totally great tablet. For me I wish they'd continued it as the lower budget option!
Great comment, thank you
I've never really heard anyone talk about printing from these devices. Do they support printing over wifi, or do we need to export to a device which does support wireless printing?
Could you do the same comparison with the rm2 please? Why did you do that with rm1????
Thanks for this review! It stands out and highlights the stuff that is important to me .. and I have to mention that you also have a very good presenting qualities..
Thanks so much, glad to help. Check out the other comparisons on my channel and let me know what you eventually decide to buy.
I just got my supernote today and I love it although the email is setup is a bit clunky. great video
Agreed re: the email. I mention that in one of my videos about it. Hope you enjoy it, let me know how you get on at some point!

Great review I’m sold on the Supernote.
Thanks for the informative vid, I was looking into the remarkable as I constantly make notes for uni and work but im now swaying more towards the Supernote!
It's a difficult choice! Have you seen my four way comparison? It's the auto play video on my channel page.
Your video has helped me with my decision, supernote is the way to go for me. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad to help! Drop back and let me know how your experience goes with it!
I appreciate your help in making this comparison, particularly the side by side way you explained it! Thanks 🙏
Thanks Cathy! Yeah I think it's a format that works well! Which will you go for in the end?
@@KitBetts-Masters I have ordered the Supernote. 5 . I am trying to cut down on my practitioner files, and keep my professional notes in a place where l can find them.
Nice comparison. Emphatic speech, fact and information driven.
Thanks so much! Have you seen my more recent comparison including the boox note air as well?
@@KitBetts-Masters Cool! Thank you! I was looking into the A5X after watching this but it's currently unavailable. Go figure.

You are totally speaking my language here! Thanks so much for the comment!
Nice one, the cheapest of these devices is the mobiscribe, that might be worth checking out.
I hear you on the subscription model though!
Haha
@GorillaPhysics
Now thinking of it.... Maybe you could do a comparison of neosmart with some of the ePaper devices 😁😁😁
The heart yearns the remarkable2, the mind knows it's the Supernote A5X. Given the attitudes of both companies towards their customers and the public and the future product plans, it will be the A5X.
Also, functionality over pezaz. But boy oh boy is the remarkable2 a fine looking piece of kit.
Thanks so much true the comment! I wish you joy of it when it comes and it will certainly fulfill your requirements!

Remarkable can export vectors, which is very cool.
@@KitBetts-Masters It'll be interesting to see. I want sth that exports notes as they are - with my handwriting.
Thanks so much, definitely need to get hold of a Boox device to make that comparison. Fingers crossed this is coming! 🦍🙂
Can any of those devices share the screen to Microsoft Teams meeting, serving as a meeting room whiteboard?
These two can in a bit of a roundabout way, but the Boox devices, (see my more recent videos) could share directly into the teams app. 🙂
Supernote for myself-writer
Remarkable 3 for my daughter artist
Yeah, that's definitely the use case! :-)
Great video. Thanks! Went with the Supernote.
Awesome! Let me know how you find it!
Hey great review, thank you for taking the time, really beneficial!! A couple questions, does the Supernote have a web browser and does the kindle app have that feature that kindle does where you can click on a word a get its definition?
Hiya, which one feels most like an ink pen? I use an italic pen. Is the re markable calligraphy pen italic?
Of the ReMarkable, Supernote and Boox, which one has the best file management functionality?
Boox, because it's just a standard android file system.
Can you send PowerPoints to the supernote? I am looking for something that can take notes on PowerPoints and articles
Nope, you'll want to check out Boox or Bigme in my latest buying guides and top 5 for annotations on PowerPoint.
Wait, aren't you showing the Remarkable 1 in this presentation? But you talk about the Remarkable 2 in your description? :/ Great presentation btw !
Hiya, this was made just when the rm2 was on preorder. But as people were likely to be ordering the rm2 it was worth me taking about that.
Hiya. Yes, I would say that they are both equally as capable on terms of copying, pasting highlighting and annotating on pdfs. 🙂🦍
But you might want something bigger for academic papers!
Thank you, really informative. Based on this and I’m not an artist, would choose SuperNote.
Great choice, I'm sure you'll love it! Let me know how you get along with it!
I'll check.
thank you! you have answered my questions!
I've just ordered a SuperNote. I have decided to pivot as I have no space for notebooks for my creative writing. I never realised that this hobby would be so expensive. I'm also hoping I don't get a whopping VAT bill when it arrives....
Hehe, best of luck, I think you'll really like it! Can you stop by after a bit and let me know how you get on with it? :-)
93 GBP plus DHL 45 shipping fees. Getting mine Monday after a bit of delay from DHL.
@@hussainmahmoud7881 awesome, let me know how you get on with it!
Hi thank you very much for your review. I’m thinking of purchasing the super note. I was wondering what are your thoughts vs something like an iPad?
Hiya, I have a detailed comparison of remarkable vs iPad and and iPad Vs everything else video that might help!
Conclusions will be pretty similar for supernote Vs iPad!
Then Can you use the remarkable stylus on the super note if they have the same e ink screen?
You can, but it's not because the eink screen is the same, but because they both use a wacom EMR pen touch sensitive screen. Cheers!
Supernote thanks for the comparisons.
I truly wish I had seen this before I got the first remarkable….I’ve been dying to get the supernote
Let me know how you like it when it arrives!
Does the A6X have graph paper with snap to grid drawing?
Graph paper yes, but snap no. Although you can turn it into perfectly straight lines.
can any of these devices have a wired connection option for those who do not tolerate WiFi radiation and/or does not live in an area with mobile connectivity??
I don't think so unfortunately, not without hacking the software!
What if I want to use remarkable2 do work physics and math problems on verse paper? Then store the worked problems their Connect=cloud?
Yep, great for that. Not sure what verse paper is though, a template?
Great comparisons - thank you!
Glad to help! You decided which one to get?
@@KitBetts-Masters Yes. Supernote A5x I write thrillers and I hope this will help me keep the characters etc straight. Again, great review!
Great video! Be interested to hear what you make of the Boox Max Lumi, which I use for more academic papers. I own the Supernote A5X as well and prefer that for epub reading.
Thanks so much. I've been in contact with Boox, as I'd love to add them to my comparison videos. Fingers crossed and watch this space!
Anyone have alternative pens and folios for the supernote a5x? Would really help reduce the cost
Please Sir, can you do a video on The chain fountain phenomenon, also known as the self-siphoning beads, Newton's beads or the Mould effect. Thank you 😊
Fascinating idea, I'll have a look!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thank You!!! 😃
@@KitBetts-Masters thank you so much!
Does the Supernote reflow pdf files?
No, it just gives you the PDF as is.
Awesome review! Thank you!
Thanks so much. Have you seen the updated review? ua-cam.com/video/BLNY8umHzVE/v-deo.html
Does the supernote convert writing into text? Like if i write a full page can i press a button and convert it into text?
Ot can covert what you select, but if you wanted to convert a full page, I think you'd be best off working in the word app.
@@KitBetts-Masters what do you mean by that? like the word app on the pad? so if i hand write it all in the word app, the word app will convert all the writing into text?
@@BibBubDude yeah there is a word app on the pad, you can convert as you go or do a whole load at once!
Can you use the Supernote on remarkable 2? Not sure if anyone has tried
You can, but it's recommended not to use the ceramic nib on a different screen as it could scratch it!
Supernote screen is glossy or matte?
I'd say glossy, but you don't get lots of distracting reflections. It's my favourite pen and screen feel.
@@KitBetts-Masters if it is glossy, it's perfect. Cos the Lamy EMR pen I bought is for glossy screen
I have the supernote. I like it but the fact that the system isn't available in portuguese language is very bad because the OCR does not work with some especial characters
Yes, I know that's a current limitation, I think that they intend bringing more languages in a future update!
I suggest that Issac physics is a good website to try to drill your problem solving skills! (If you're having those sort of "where the flip am I supposed to start?" moments!)
@@KitBetts-Masters Thank you so much for your support , and your videos :)
I'll check it out thanks so much
Great comparison!
Ah thanks so much that's a really good video idea. I will plan that to be recorded soon.
This good for university notes?
Yes, I would definitely recommend it for that. If I were back at university one of these would be in my must haves! Have you seen the latest comparison video? ua-cam.com/video/BLNY8umHzVE/v-deo.html
Super helpful.
Amazing review
Like the info great comparison
Was that a Remarkable 1 or 2? Seems like a 1.
Yes, that's a 1. My newer comparison videos feature the remarkable 2.
For me, Supernote, but if I was doing more pencil sketches, it'd be reMarkable.
Anyone used either of these outside in bad weather, can they cope?
cheers
I don't think they would manage heavy weather!
