I didn't lose weight and keep it off until I set up an environment that limited my access to sweets. I was eating four peanut butter cups, a chocolate bar, hot chocolate with marshmallows, a root beer, and chocolate ice cream every single day. I'm highly addicted to sugar. You know how I stopped? I don't bring that stuff in my house anymore. It was that simple. I have to go out of my way and drive to the grocery store to get ice cream and chocolate. That takes 30 min. That's a long time to come to your senses and have an apple instead.
Who else thought about other aspects of self improvement instead of diet during this video? This advice can help your life in so many ways, like learning new skills, expanding your social circle etc.
I’m on the first leg of my journey and I just found this channel a few weeks ago. His content has helped me tremendously. I feel like I have clear direction and motivation, whereas before I was lost in a sea of misdirection and uncertainty. I’m so glad I have this information. I’m like a sponge. I’ve lost 13lb since JANUARY 1st. I’m doing resistance training 5 days a week and I’m on a strict clean diet. Zero junk, zero cheat days, zero breaks. I am finally taking time for myself after having 3 beautiful daughters. I want to show them that without health, you have nothing. I want to show them that taking care of your body is self love. I started my journey 90lbs overweight at 235. I am down to 222.2 this morning. I feel so motivated to keep going. Thank you for all the sturdy advice and giving it in a way that is relatable and enjoyable to listen to.
VERY proud for you Laura. I just found the video today and I am where you were, probably my floor is even lower right now. And that is what I got most from this video, is RAISING MY FLOOR, it's not about the ceiling...YET. It's about raising your floor.
I know this is a 2 year old video but I just learned about this channel and I feel the need to comment on the premium quality of its contents. Wild to think about the fact that the quality of the videos has only increased throughout the years. This is already as great as it is. Thank you for making this content available on a free platform. This may not be obvious but, folks.. we would have had to pay for this information, just a decade ago. Kudos sir.
Mike is king at embedding advice applicable to all facets of life using fitness as a framework. Really easy to see how this process applies to literally doing anything that's hard. Awesome stuff!
This is one of the most interesting fitness related videos I’ve watched. The graph and bullet points take it home. All these terms are thrown to everyone all the time but Mike breaks it down perfectly.
This video has literally made me understand how the mind works and what to do when I feel lost. I've been dieting for 10 weeks now, I reached the "habit" stage after exactly 4 weeks and everything started to become automatic. Being shredded for summer has never been easier!
I’ve just spent 90 mins writing out my fitness plan, with total clarity after watching this several times. I know what I’ve already got ‘boxed off’, what I need to work on and WHY! Amazing stuff team RP, it’s much appreciated.
Dr Mike is, without doubt, THE BEST! No short cuts, no magic elixir, no bs. Just good old fashioned caloric deficit, hard work, and go in measured phases. Simple and brilliant
This has gotta be the most conclusive video about dieting. I'll admit, I knew most of the info before, but never as one huge idea put together with so many supporting ideas. Thanks Mike for all the hard work.
Boy, for me in the last decade, habit has had far and away the biggest, most influential impact on my adherence. It has become remarkably easy to set weight goals and meet them with zero to minimal struggle and suffering, and it’s been amazing. Grinding through the early days of tracking calories, reading nutrition labels, measuring portions, and experimenting with meals and scheduling has been life-changing, and I’m glad I did it.
This was AMAZING. A complete shift in how I view dieting, but my mind is spinning as I’m applying these steps to other areas of my life. So good! I would love to see the same thing applied to weight lifting. It would really reinforce the ideas. Thanks Dr. Mike!
This is so clearly put out that I'm speechless, adherence is something I struggle a lot, not just in dieting but in other aspects of life, I'm grateful to Dr Mike for explaining it so clear and free of motivational bullshit. I'll share this with everyone! Thank you!
I can't believe you give this high quality information out for free. This is by far the best video I have ever seen on how to diet successfully. Thanks mate! Keep up the good work, it's very much appreciated!
Inspiration gives you the idea. Motivation is like the ignition of a motor... it just gets you started. Discipline keeps the motor running and gets you to your destination.
Oh my god, I still can't believe this kind of foundational information is free and packed up like that to understand easier. Thank you so much Mike. And it is super good to see somebody is (that is you :D) achieving his life purpose. I'm able to feel that excitement that you spread by you because it is so obvious. You love the stuff you do and the energy that you give is awesome but it is not articulatable ( i don't know if that word exists :))
I normally don't comment on YT but this has to be the best advice for ANYTHING not just dieting that I've heard in my life. Thank you and Good Job Dr. Mike!!
awesome info! i have always love eating and that made me lose weight super hard, tried a lot of diets and exercises along with it, but what made it possible was agoge diet. it changed my life. its always about the right diet for u
This intuitive model helps me a lot to term my problems properly and fix those in so many other aspects of my life. Really, really appreciate you doing this Dr. Mike ❤
A really rough breakup has been my greatest motivation. I used all the depression and negativity and converted the energy in pure determination to change myself and become a better person. I'm currently down 6 kg and working really hard in the gym. Guys it's really tough but I am doing my best
My husband has told me to watch this guy for a year now and I was putting it off and now I finally see why he likes him so much. That is hands down the best explanation/who/what/where/when and why of beginning a diet that I have ever heard. Now I'm pretty much watching all of his videos 😂 Good Stuff!❤
This is great. I've always wondered about who the major player is between discipline and motivation. His description of inspiration to give you the initial thrust, motivation to provide the slow burn of continued action, discipline to keep your action plan on track, willpower to be used as a tool during times of low motivation and mood, and habit forming the new road on which you will find it easier to walk: is extremely useful information. For the last 2 and a half months I've been eating healthy. Meaning very low sugar, whole foods (meat and veg/fruit), low or no processed foods, high fibre & protein, a variety of different foods and making sure to include salmon and other seafood twice a week. Including Mindful eating so no tv or phone etc. Walks after meals. Water with each meal. It was rather mentally tough in the beginning and took a lot of effort when I went shopping and decided what food I wanted to eat and cook. Now. It's second nature. I feel a hell of a lot better and lost about 10kgs without even trying. I've stalled now at the same weight for 2 weeks. So I'm thinking it's time for a diet. What he's been saying makes so much sense because I've been going through it with my eating habits and choices. It used to be hard. Now it's what I prefer. I see the junk food isle and I feel kind of ill. It's not hard at all to avoid shitty food. It comes with such a mental tax that it isn't appealing anymore.
This is the best video I've ever seen, and not only for dieting but for any aspect of your life you could apply those principles to reach whatever goal one may have. Thank you sir
What was completely mad about watching this was realising that the reason I’m doing well this time (my second time going all in on diet and fitness) was that I had all the various aspects aligned (inspiration, motivation, habit etc). It showed me why I failed the first time (at the height of the pandemic, when inspiration and particularly motivation were in short supply!) If you’ve failed once, there’s always a fear you’ll fail again. But watching this I recognised that I’m already in the habit phase and have aligned everything properly, the lack of which was why I wasn’t able to stick at it the first time. Really great video, thank you!
I truly wish more people would find Dr. Mike, RP, and their true selves. So many people have passed without even living life in a body that works like a effiencent machine. No idea how wonderful it feels to be fit.
Honestly, this is such an amazing video regarding overall self improvement. THis spoke to me on a deeper level than just diet and exercise. I will forever keep coming back to this video for overall self improvement advice.
I'm glad there are trainers like yall that share this information. I plug my ear buds in and get busy on housework or exercise and keep motivated all day long. Seeing results already! 🎉
This video always helps me when I get knocked a bit off balance. I share this aith all my friends who prioritize fat loss. I lost my habit after quarantine, but when I had a good support system. Now that I'm on my own, adherence is a b**** but it gets easier when I touch up on your points, thanks Mike 😁💪
I loved that part about passion! I think I am there!! I am not on a diet (anymore - it started as a diet a few years ago), because eating healthy food with good portion control became part of my life. Just love love love it! Love cooking too 😊 makes me feel incredibly good and maintain ideal weight over the years and also staying strong and healthy 🤩
This is fantastic, Mike. Thank you. As someone whose weight loss journey is heading into year two and winding down, this perfectly explains the evolutionary process that happens psychologically/physiologically in a successful attempt. I think habit is the most crucial point: that’s usually where you’ve reestablished your relationship with food and, likely, dissociated eating from a daily reward system. Like, I’m not a dude who never wants a donut, or doesn’t fucking love when I do, but I’m now a dude who doesn’t think I should reward myself with a “treat” every time I feel good/bad. For me, the most important move here was to find *other* reward systems that replace and, thus, make you aware of how you use food to do that. For me it was long walks with music/audiobooks that feel like this wonderful decompression time in the day. At some point, you don’t even think about eating chicken breast instead of bratwurst: you just kind of do it. Then, passion is where you’re now officially *this way,* where you know you prefer living this way. The biggest scare about losing weight is the fear of backsliding. Once you hit habit and, especially, passion, it would actually take some effort to get back to those bad habits. Again, thanks so much for this. Makes me feel confident and checks out in my experience.
Been going to the gym for 3 yrs have alot og muscle gains. Only now am i starting to be mentally well enough to handle my diet and slowly cut fat. This channel is so helpful!
Dr. Mike, this is one of the best explanations I have heard about how people go about changing! Dr. Mike you are a jewel. Please continue to share you knowledge and experiences. It has helped me change.
Thank you. I have listened to this video while doing cardio and completing my yard work. The latter usually feels like a horrible torture technique (Florida heat/humidity is no joke). Today, I was inspired and motivated to keep going to finish the episode and end with the boxing move and success roar. Thank you.
The motivation for me besides fat loss, is how I physically feel. Exercise makes me feel like I'm 20 again. I can tell it raises my testosterone, it makes me feel stronger, I feel more mobile, I have less stress, I have an outlet for stress. I have a thigh gap between my legs for the first time in my entire life and my thighs aren't rubbing. All of these factors amount of positive reinforcement and reasons I remind myself when I get hungry and head to the fridge, and tell myself to not eat anymore.
there's a lot of valuable content on this channel but this is the single most valuable one. people who master this process can maximize their potential in any domain.
GOD I LOVE THIS. Thank you! I needed fatloss broken up in a plan. It's overwhelming and the app makes me feel like I can do this. It is manageable. The knowledge bombs in the video! I celebrate each successful meal :)
As a psychologist I am positively surprised and happy to see someone on UA-cam explain psychological concepts accurately in terms of psychlogical science.
One thing I would like to mention is that the best way to develop passion is through genuine interest in the subject. If you want to get passionate about something, like dieting, become interested in it! Watch informational videos, read articles, follow people involved in the community, etc. SURROUND yourself with the topic to the point where you are thinking about it constantly. Do this, and I promise you, willpower almost won’t even be an issue.
this is actually probably the best video I've seen about dieting as someone who has dieted before as extremely skinnyfat and is now about a week into a new 8-10 week cut. Excellent
Thank you for this video. Just starting another diet after gaining most of the weight back from a previous diet. It's helping me see where I failed and is giving me the confidence that I can succeed again. Great video.
This was outstanding information! I can see it applying to many other aspects of life as well, but I love how understandable it made it to understand adherence to a healthy lifestyle. I’ll be sharing it with friends and coworkers.
Honestly for me, what made the difference was making small, consistent changes and letting that change become part of my life before incorporating something new. Also surrounding myself with people who support my goals instead of people who tear them down. Step 1: start waking up on time every day, or at least most days Step 2: start cooking for myself more and try to find foods that are in line with my goals that I actually look forward to eating Step 3: start taking the stairs at every opportunity Step 4: start taking a Pilates class Step 5: start hiking and biking and climbing at every opportunity (what I enjoy doing) Step 6: start working with a trainer so that weight training doesn’t seem so scary Step 7: start going to the gym on my own and learn how to build my own programs Don’t make the change all at once, you’re building the rest of your life. One thing at a time and you’ll turn around 3 years later and find that you’ve accidentally created exactly the life you wanted all along.
When I want to cut, at most I need to drop 10-15lbs. So I've learned that I do better with a slower approach. A small deficit of 400 under maintenance 5x per week and two maintenance days. This works out to like 2lbs a month. So if I stay on point Jan-June then I hit my goal. It's way easier to adhere to. Especially implementing intermittent fasting and a few surplus days per month. Also cutting slower lets you train a lot harder and recover better. 💯
This video should be shared and shared and shared as it is relevant to so much more than dieting! This is an amazing technique to use for anything that requires motivation! Awesome x
Super video man. Didn't have the best impression of you since that debate with Greg but this video is really phenomenal. I've been binging on your content recently. Super work. Thanks!

Yeah this is a great presentation on behavioral adherence thorough the application of dieting. Should be a TED Talk.
Definitely. It applied so broadly that I wasn’t even thinking about dieting by the end. It was awesome!
Totally!

I've gotta say man, you're a great speaker. I can listen to you talk about diet and exercise for hours.

Definitely saving that graph for future use. So helpful for understanding my behavior trends - and for other areas of life too!!
Years of trying to understand it all and not being able to, all explained in this video. Thank you Dr Mike
GOD I LOVE THIS. Thank you! I needed fatloss broken up in a plan. It's overwhelming and the app makes me feel like I can do this. It is manageable. The knowledge bombs in the video! I celebrate each successful meal :)
I've watched this like 3 times. Thank God for Dr. Mike!
This is great advice for accomplishing any goals
that was such an insanely good video ... i feel like you could use this also as advice for most endeavours in life not just diet
As a psychologist I am positively surprised and happy to see someone on UA-cam explain psychological concepts accurately in terms of psychlogical science.
Hello, do you have any textbook or books related to the knowledge Dr. Mike talked about in this vid? Would be very grateful if you can share ❤
This is pure gold!!
Once you get to the implementation stage of any difficult change this is absolutely essential. Life changing
This might be one of the most important videos ever made whether you care about dieting or not.
this is actually probably the best video I've seen about dieting as someone who has dieted before as extremely skinnyfat and is now about a week into a new 8-10 week cut. Excellent
Thank you for this video. Just starting another diet after gaining most of the weight back from a previous diet. It's helping me see where I failed and is giving me the confidence that I can succeed again. Great video.
This absolutely applies to all the other areas in my life! Thank you so much, Mike, for putting this video together!!
This was outstanding information! I can see it applying to many other aspects of life as well, but I love how understandable it made it to understand adherence to a healthy lifestyle. I’ll be sharing it with friends and coworkers.
I actually didn’t know what I was going through my diet phase and everything for weight loss. He actually explained everything so perfect
Very easy to understand explanation. I feel very inspired to continue my journey!
Loved this one Mike, thanks for all the time you put into these lectures!
This is the most scientific, non-scientific video ever, if that makes sense. Thank you so much Dr. Mike
This is the best breakdown I’ve ever heard holy moly, thank you for this!
The best video related to dieting and fat loss by far
Honestly for me, what made the difference was making small, consistent changes and letting that change become part of my life before incorporating something new. Also surrounding myself with people who support my goals instead of people who tear them down.
Step 1: start waking up on time every day, or at least most days
Step 2: start cooking for myself more and try to find foods that are in line with my goals that I actually look forward to eating
Step 3: start taking the stairs at every opportunity
Step 4: start taking a Pilates class
Step 5: start hiking and biking and climbing at every opportunity (what I enjoy doing)
Step 6: start working with a trainer so that weight training doesn’t seem so scary
Step 7: start going to the gym on my own and learn how to build my own programs
Don’t make the change all at once, you’re building the rest of your life. One thing at a time and you’ll turn around 3 years later and find that you’ve accidentally created exactly the life you wanted all along.
Wow! Best explanation ever ! You just got yourself a subscriber! Thanks man
This is one of the best videos on UA-cam.
Being alone for years is a great inspiration and then taking photos to online date and seeing how overweight you have gotten. Down 40lbs in 5 months.
He’s the only doctor I make a playlist for... love you Mike🤗
I can’t believe this video isn’t behind a pay wall! ❤️❤️💯💯💋
Super work. Thanks!
Fantastic video, one of the best i've ever seen in the whole industry! Thank you for that!
