  • Because of the crazy price of LS3/5A in the 2nd hand market and the sound of the brand new is not good enough, I made one finally by myself. I had a chance to get a rebuilding cabinet from ebay. The crossover was formed by Solen caps and my DIY inductors. Both tweeter and woofer were gotten from ebay too. The stand was brand new from China market with the weight around 40lbs each. When this little baby worked with my KT88 triode mode PP amp. and my DIY 6SN7 + 6DN7 MFA Luminesence pre-amp., it gave me so much surprise especially on its bass. Maybe the effect was came from the heavy stand. Let's go to join my happiness by making one by yourself.

Nice job, I have Chartwells and homemade clones, perhaps yours would benefit from some foam damping inside. Looks like felt on top of the bitumen pads, felt is good but I suspect that foam is also needed.

Nice job, Are your inductors air cored? If so they might have a higher resistance than the originals. Perhaps get the grilles for the T27's, they improve the HF slightly. I used them on my clone LS3/5a's. I also have Chartwell LS3/5a's

Nice job man! I built a 3 way KEF from the Constructor series decades ago with the T27 and B110 but with the B139 woofer. My father being a pro carpenter built the cabinet for me with braced hi density MDF. I agree the price of these minis is nuts now. BTW don't put up a video of the speakers playing because it really annoys me how ppl put up demos of speakers on UA-cam. You got a pair of speaker playing into a cheap microphone, usually on an iPhone then uploaded video of the recording to degraded UA-cam video and then a bunch of fools playing the video back on their lousy computer "preamps" to crappy speakers or headphones. I say we stop that business!

Amazing!! Have you seen these: www.falconacoustics.co.uk/drive-units-1/falcon-b110-t27-drive-unit/falcon-kef-b110-sp1003-new-ls35a-ab1.html that really would make them accurate replicas using B110s that are spec'd for the ls3/5a, just like a brand new original pair - not cheap though....
