The reason outlast is so scary is because the inability to fight back. Resident evil 7 is now one of my favorite games but it can never be as scary as outlast were your only mechanic is survive.

I disagree. When one has a weapon, it makes them more willing to go into scary situations that they might later find themselves overwhelmed and freaking out. With these walking simulators, it's just run and hide from everyone with no false sense of security.

But then all those different weapons came into play and it became less and less scary. I hate the feeling of being defenseless and being grabbed from behind lol. It's similar to FN@F in that regard. Though weaker in that the ability to run gives you power. And that focus on moving weakens the feeling of paranoia. But at the same time it adds to the scare power in that with great power comes great responsibility. Being able to run means you're forced to run and unable to maintain control of your surroundings. Which is where FN@F falls down and it just becomes a patterns game that loses most of its scare factor for focus to not mess up the pattern.
