    I installed battery tender jr with the leads over 10 years ago!!!
    Recently the the battery 🪫 failed I also ordered new 1.25 battery tender by Deltran .
    These small batteries require tenders that are low amps anything over 2.7 amps will damage your battery 🔋…
    Thank you for the video

    I have a XG8000E, and still on the original battery at 8 years old, i don't know how it's lasted this long, but I do keep it on a Noco battery tender, and stored indoors.
    But one video i watched before shows removing the gas tank, this is a much better procedure and I will for sure do it the same way once I do need a replacement. I also think I'm gonna install a couple jumper leads with a connector to the battery in case I have to boost it.

      Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: this is only a reminder for anyone who use portable gas/propane generators. This is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generator during a power outage. Everyone has to see this safety reminder. Every year after hurricane and winter storms, there were reports on the news that many people have died each year when using generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution during a power outage. There were reports about deaths when using generators when the power was out. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Here’s an advice about generator safety: please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not permit a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. ua-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/v-deo.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Hope this helps and everyone understands the safety requirements. Thank you. Be safe.

    Hey I’ve worked on several if not more of these Generac models. Engineering disaster. Battery hidden up under side cover , too many bolts to remove to make a simple repair a nightmare. One owner didn’t even know there was a battery operated start function. Then if units been moved and shuffled around bolts get twisted and are hard t remove and reinstall. Your video is a good tutorial on battery install.

    Great video. I bought this model generator after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and an electrician installed a Manual Transfer Switch. After replacing more than one battery, I finally wired in the Battery Tender Jr. in 2018 when I installed my last Generac OEM battery. After two years on the Tender, it still starts up on the first try. The status lights on the Battery Tender Jr. make is easy to maintain so I don't have to guess anymore. The new Generac models for this size generator make the battery easy to replace, but I would still recommend using the Battery Tender Jr.

      Not sure zip ties are a pro tip but they do work. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Glad our video could help you. The battery tender has been working flawless on this generator. That's the one thing that Generac messed up with on this generator was the battery charging system. It should charge while the generator is in use/ running or at least have a wall adapter that will cycle on and off when it needs to charge the battery without over charging it so you can leave it plugged in. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up/ like if you haven't already. Thanks

    Note to people using this video for guidance.....it's great help and I'm happy to have found it "BUT" the generator in this video is new which does not have the same issues like: rusted battery bolts which are a PITA, the heat shield bolt is driven into the heat shield and does not unscrew on it's own when attempting to loosen it.....you need to jam a screw driver prying apart as you unscrew for the threads to catch(at least on mine), the heat shield also has a nut thats on the long rear bolt on the back side battery panel which will drop and roll...leaving you wondering where the hell it came from. also, I highly suggest leaving the upper left bolt on the face panel in place loosened to hold control panel in place while you octopus arm your way through this joke of a project. Funny thing is when putting this puzzle back together it looks like you may be able to get the job done by only removing the back panel to access the +/- leads and battery bracket. Still looks to need black magic to accomplish but it may be doable!

    Great video. Thanks for putting this together -- definitely saved me some time. Well done.
    Agree with other commenters that the mechanical design of the Generac is disappointing. Certainly something as common as a battery change shouldn't be this involved. In retrospect I wish I'd purchased a Honda generator. They're more costly at acquisition but are a substantially better machine, well designed and easy to work on. A shout out to the ME's that designed the Honda.

      You're welcome, Glad we could help. Ya Generac dropped the ball on the charging aspect on this model. It should charge as it runs or should have a wall adapter that can cycle on and off as to not over charge the battery. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. My battery made it 9 years so even though changing it is annoying that’s pretty good. Also. All i did was take the gas tank off left the side panels on, not sure why you do it this way. Mine is xg8000e pretty sure they are the same design.

    • @EliseandDanchannel
      @EliseandDanchannel Рік тому

      Yes, just pulled my battery out on the same machine. 4 bolts for the gas tank. 4 bolts for the side panel opposite of the control panel and the tank will slide right out. If there is gas, just keep the shut off closed and pop it out, disconnect the down line hose.
      Much easier. My tank was empty. I have rigged up a small tank that holds about 1/2 gal that I Y'd into the line. I use this tank to run the machine monthly. This way I don't have to worry about stored gas in the main tank.

      They are nice gens. I haven't had a problem with the choke cable. The battery not charging while the gen set running is a crappy design and it would be nice if the charge that they give you was a tender with auto off so it doesn't over charge the battery.

    Another thank you! I've been dreading changing the battery in the same Generac generator, but your very clear directions have given me the confidence to tackle it. I'm considering changing generators because of the battery issue. Do you have any thoughts about the Westinghouse 7500 watt or Duromax 10,000? Both are dual fuel which seems cool. Thanks, again. • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  5 років тому

      You're welcome. Glad we could help give you the confidence to take on getting the battery replaced. This one has been a good generator almost 500 or so hours on it and no problems. This one actually came with a dead battery so that's why we needed to replace it. On this one we installed a battery tender like this one -> amzn.to/2RGBhUi and use that to keep the battery charged as it will cycle on and off as needed to maintain the battery and can be left plugged in. ( easy to add the lead while replacing the battery anyway.) For another person we set up a weekly timer like this one -> amzn.to/2SI5OhW and use that to cycle the factory charger on and off to charge the battery a couple hours a week to ensure the battery stays charged. I don't have or know anyone with either of those. I feel like Generac is a bigger name in the generator game but dropped the ball with the battery charging but by doing either of above it seems to solve that problem. Hope that helps you make up your mind or give you another option. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up. Thanks

      I guess you could. I have set multiple people up with a weekly timer amzn.to/2Qo0QGa like this one to cycle the factory charger on and off and keep the battery charged or you could wire in a battery tender amzn.to/2NCGQ4f and use that. OR you could leave everything alone and take a booster / jumper pack or jumper cables and put one on the ground and the other right onto the starter lug and start it that way.
