Where’s all my houston people looking into getting a generator after this freeze lmao
Lol
Here!
Guilty as charged. Ordered this Generac GP8000E after we got our lights and water back in Houston a few days ago.
I ordered one. My wife’s gonna kill me when she sees how much I spent. But when the power goes out again she’ll thank me
@osvaldorodriguez8733 wassup brother.. 3 years later and I bought this one after this week's hurricane!
Great review. Had to use my Generac GP8000 during the passing of Hurricane Eta. Loss power for 11 hours and ran fine with the ac, frig, 2 freezers, ceiling fans,, TV and lighting. Have it plugged into a junction box to main circuit breaker box which is convenient and nice. Also very fuel efficient to.
Thanks for watching 👍 I like the screen name! We just posted a video of a new KW dump truck my buddy bought
This generator ran all of that?!
I have 960.08 hr on mine. Great units.
i have the GP5500. and it is as well a workhorse. Feed entire house with it. Large appliances 1 at a time. (A/C,Water heater etc.) All the lights and such. Generac makes the best units out there. Also a good price point as well. Good review!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 👍 it is a nice generator.
Hi Hank, these portable units can be a life saver. We went 16 days w/o power after hurricane IKE here in Houston. I had previously purchased an 8500 watt Briggs and Stratton portable from Lowes, had it set up to where I could back feed 220V AC into the house panel, we could run pretty much everything except central A/C . We ran a 20,000 BTU window unit A/C in the master bedroom and were comfortable. I have since installed a 20KW Generac with auto transfer switch that runs on natural gas and love it. Good review and good generator keep up the great work !
Yes sir. That's awesome. I appreciate it 👍
100% in the market for a good generator. Im sold on this one!
Right on. I love mine.
I have a Kohler 17.5 Kw whole home propane generator. Living on a well it is worth it's weight in Gold when the power is out. Had it about 12 years now and it runs like a champ!
That's good to hear. I wish I would've went with a whole home generator when we built our house.
Well Chuck, It is obvious U R a guy who loves to do maintenance! No use having good stuff if it is not maintained. Must be a nice V2 engine 35 HP?
Bought the Generac 5500 over 12 years ago. Has never failed to start and stay running. Let it run for 30 minutes once a month as outlined in the manual. Also has needed no repairs .
I just bought myself my first Generac Generator GP8000E last month... This week the Gulf coast has Marco & Laura in the territory... This was the best buy I ever made...
Yeah, I got mine out, ready to go. I'm on the gulf. 👍
Quick question if battery is not charged will I be able to turn generator manually..
@juanavaldivia2561 yes it has a pull start like a lawn mower
Heyhey Hank I have the Generac 7500 and use it for my whole house except the electric range and dryer. Great machine
Thanks Mike. We like ours too. 👍
U could have worked the big burner on ur stove, I mean if u had a 120/240 hook up
which I think you had.
Thank you for your time, I was forced to buy this without time to review and I am glad I purchased this model!
I have really liked mine..a lot. Thanks for the comment 👍
Check out my Harbor Freight Generator review here: ua-cam.com/video/JJ8Qcao7xUA/v-deo.html
Just bought one of these and had the 30 amp generlink installed on my home. I hope this will power the whole home or most of it.
I have the generac 9200. Im glad i have it.
Have the 6500 version of this and it's kept us afloat a handful of times. I've had to replace a few things, but that's it aside form general maintenance.
Looks like a nice generator. Nice product review. Have a good weekend
Thanks Jacky!
I just got mine today. Thank you for your help.
Mine is still going strong. Just used it last week for a little bit
Nice generator definitely comes in handy up here in N.C. seems like generator runs as much as power co. Take care Hank
Yeah I like it a lot.
Just purcahsed the 8000. This video was excellent to jump start me!
I just used mine yesterday. That thing has been bulletproof for me
Always install a transfer switch !
I ran a ng line and ac disconnect for a dewalt (generac) 8000w I converted with one of those $30 dual fuel carburetors on Ebay, runs awesome on ng whole house 2 mini splits wide open no problem and only shows 30% load im impressed so far and I keep the tank empty and battery charged
Cool
Can you show me which carb you converted it with ? I just picked up one of these generators. Thanks !
@@ddunn10 please remember to also keep your children safe when you’re using portable generators so they don’t get electrocuted. Just reminding everyone to stay safe and be careful. Thank you
Just purchased one to day. Trying to be ahead of the game and not screwed like last time
Yeah it's better to have one and not need it, than need it and not have it. 👍
Good deal there man and I am surprised that you have not went up to a Pto Drive Generator for your tractor yet.... I still have my Deere portable for getting things goin but then we switch over to the tractor generator
Those would be nice for sure👍
Good review! Seems like a good unit! I take your word for it!
It's never let us down. Thanks for watching Jay👍
Had this unit and it constantly caused me problems. The fuel gauge stopped working after a year and Generac only included hardware for one of the two feet needed to keep it level. The automatic/battery starter never worked. Ive had to replace the carburetor, the magneto and fuel filter all within the first few years. I had to disconnect a faulty CO sensor that would shut down the generator as well as a faulty low oil shut-off sensor that would shut down the engine regardless of oil level. Unlike any other generator Ive owned, valve adjustments where required once a year or more or it wouldn't start. And finally, for no apparent reason, the exhaust valve broke off after running for 45 minutes and ruined the head and piston. It was a let-down right out of the box and will certainly be the last Generac I ever spend money on.
Great video Brother. Just ordered / paid for one a Lowe’s. Heading to Anchorage in the morning to picked it. Thanks for all of the info. 👍🏻
I love mine. Use it often
@@HamiltonvilleFarm just ordered an interlock kit to run the house too. Nice Channel. Just starting ours.
Your in Alaska jp ?
Thanks for your video. I am getting this in the spring. Generators in Ct are on first come fist serve basic and thousands are on back order. Due to Covid 19 and our weird Ct weather.
Thanks for watching 👍
I live here in CT also, went 6 days without power after Isaias, lost it for the night with the windstorm the other day too. I just picked one of these up at CT Home Generator Systems in Newington today, they had close to a dozen on the showroom floor. Also Acres in East Longmeadow MA had a couple, as well as Sudden Service in South Windsor. The only thing with CT Home Generator Systems was they were only selling as a package with a whole house hook up for $3K
about every 30 days or so I turn gas off before I shut it off let it run out of gas so theres no gas in fuel bowl to the carb gel up
Yeah I've done that before too. Thats a good technique but sometimes I forget to do that. Thanks for the comment Greg. I appreciate it 👍
@@HamiltonvilleFarm not a problem like your videos
Good looking generator
Thank you
Great video! I need one of these with what is going on here in Texas. Keeping and eye on GNRC stock!!!
Thanks for watching 👍
there is a recall on certain models, fingers pinched btween handle and generator. Just be careful and see if yours part of recall.
Excellent review. Thank you!
A generator is on our to buy list! Never know when you need it! New subscriber here from British Columbia. We have a channel as well!
you wont regret it! Thanks for stopping by.
Nice review of your generator. Like the starter.
Thanks Terry. Hope your having a good weekend
Make sure you use your generator carefully and please be aware with the safety of using generators. Remember that portable generator can be dangerous if not used properly. Please keep your children safe as well when using generators so they don’t get electrocuted. Thank you. Stay safe
I think the electric start is such a nice feature. Also, it seemed pretty quiet in the video. Good review!
yes sir!
LOL...they are earsplitting. Wear ear protection any time you start and run one of these.
That’s crazy talk. They aren’t that loud especially on start up since nothing is plugged in yet. I’m when you are running lots of power
They do get louder but it’s not earsplitting by any means.
I'm looking at one because of reliability. I know someone that uses one after storms. It seemed about the same decibel level as what I imagine a chainsaw going thru sheetmetal would sound like.
Thanks hank for the very informative descriptive video. We are in the market this summer for one. Definitely on my list to check out. Thanks again.
Thanks Ted. 👍
Very informative! I want to eventually buy a generator about that size...just big enough to power some house essentials with, just in case. Thanks for the review!
This one will do it!
Thanks buddy for the great video my friend
Thank you John.
Great review. I am wanting to hook it up to my house but don't know how or who to call to do so.
Any electrician should be able to help you. Thanks for watching
Did you ever look at the champion dual fuel generators? Really considering the gp8000e or the champion 10650/8000.
I did not run my generator every 30 days like you recommended. Now it won’t start. Do you suggest I drain the old fuel and put fresh fuel in? Maybe add a fuel stabilizer? I’ve charged the battery but when we try to start it with the fuel switch on it starts dripping the gas at a steady flow. Please offer any suggestions.
@@ReggieWhite15 trufuel will last 2- 5 year
Will this power up my oil furnace, 3 refrigerators, 1 freezer, electric water heater, TV, lights, and garage door opener?
Does it operate off propane also
Where does the oil go and which type of oil do I need
Hello friends
I am writing to you from Venezuela, can you please tell me the part number of the air filter, oil filter and spark plug?
Thank you
Good that u start it but u r better off to put a load on the generator, say a load half of
rated continuous watts.
We run it enough to keep it "healthy" 😊
By running with a load, it keeps up the residual magnetic field you need to start generating some serious power. Sort of like old car generators, not alternators
which are externally excited by the battery but generators. They have the armature
from which power is taken and spins between two field poles with a slight magnetic field wound with thin magnet wire. a small d.c. voltage is at the commutator and
flows thru field coils allowing the field pole shoes to become quite strong. It is the
same here but reversed. A rotor with a small amt of magnetic field is spun inside the
stator, the rotor is wound with magnet wire and connected to the copper slip rings.
The slightly magnetized rotor makes a low voltage a.c. in an exciter winding in the
st8or core then fed in some cases to an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) or maybe
just a fullwave rectifier then to the brushes. The rotor now becomes highly magnetic
and develops the 120/240 volts.
Brushless generators (alternators really) are a bit different but not too much.
There is an exciter winding in the stator hooked to a capacitor that can hold a bit
of electricity for a while. The rotor still has a light magnetic field on its poles and
has 2 sets of coils. one coil has a.c. voltage induced in it from the stator's exciter
winding. this a.c. is changed to d.c. by diodes on the rotor and the d.c. goes to a 2nd coil on the rotor, making said rotor more powerful. So that powerful magnetic rotor spins inside the stator.
When there is hardly any load, the stator is slightly magnetic, and not much energy is needed to spin the rotor. Put a heavy load on the generator though, and the
engine slows a bit due to the torque required because all the poles of the stator are
now like powerful magnets trying to grab the rotor.
Voltage is electrical equivalent of speed.
Amps are the electrical equivalent of torque.
If you ever lose the magnetic field you can usually get it back by plugging in an electric motor like a drill and spinning it by hand to charge the coils. Lots of videos how to do that on here.
My Generac GP8000e keeps shutting down after 5 minutes. Got 100 hours of use, changed the oil, checked the Air filter, it does have gas. WHAT CAN IT BE???😢
We had a really bad freeze last year where I live about 2 years ago. We were without power for 4 or 5 days and then had to deal with rolling blackouts. I have a covered open patio at the back of my house. Can you tell me if this generator would work on a covered patio during freezing weather to provide power to my home? Could you please also tell me more about how the generator would be connected to my home? Would I need a cold weather kit? Would I need to install a connection at my breaker box?
My family had no heat during the freeze we experienced. We resorted to running my car in the garage with the garage door raised a little to warm up. I really want a solution that will provide power if anything like this happens again. I'm disabled and have multiple health problems and a Senior in my home. I really feel like the freeze we experienced could be life threatening and I want to protect my family. I'm not sure if a portable or the whole home generator would be the best solution. I would very much appreciate any help you can give me in finding a solution. My home is about 1400 square feet and all my appliances are electric. I do have a solar system mounted on too of the patio I mentioned at the back of my house. I didn't even have firewood on hand for my fireplace and we had a very difficult time. There was pretty thick ice everywhere outside, the roads weren't driveable, and it was freezing in my home. If we hadn't gotten in and ran the car multiple times to keep warm, I'm honestly not sure we would have gotten through it. We had my dog covered with blankets on his bed in the garage. He wouldn't go when we attempted multiple times to take him out and wound up making a mess in the garage and became very ill. We made sure he had food and water but I felt very bad about it wishing I could do more to care for him. I have a portable heater in the garage but there was no way to use it. He was about 15 to 16 years old when it happened. We managed with the vet's help for him to recover but because he had very weak back legs and some other problems only had him for about a year after all this happened. I definitely don't ever want to be in this kind of situation again. Just awful.
Hey man, tks for directions to this video. They all work good out of the box, but you gave info on long lasting. The way you manage the machine makes me think you have many things well maintained.
I do have one question, you sad you exercise the Generac once a month. I'm wonder if in those exercises you let it run until carb is dry?
I use non ethanol gas. I just cranked it like 3 days ago and she fired right up. I turn on the fuel from the petcock, crank it up, let it run a few minutes, then turn off fuel flow. The engine stops running once it's "out of gas" so to speak. Ive been really happy with this generator.
@@HamiltonvilleFarm again tks for info and I think it smart to run it dry even with non-ethanol. I remember being a kid in the early'60's when my dad would burn out the carb on his M Farmall in the fall just to be ready for blizzards.
Have you ever thought about converting to LP? It just goes away, but yes, hard on valves.
im looking to buy one just like this!
I really like mine. It has never let me down.
I really want this. How far should it be away from my house? I have a tiny yard
Not far. We keep ours off the porch.
How loud it is?
Hope u changed the oil every 50 hrs or so and cleaned air filter.
I keep it maintained👍
I picked up a powerhorse 7250 watts running gen from Northerntool&equipment.
It got me an the wife thru Irma for ten dys. 16 hrs a day 120/240 volt 30 amps.
. The air filter is very important 4 good efficient running. My 91 Harley 1200 would
not do over 85 mph. I cleaned the air cleaner, went back out an rode, cops got me
for doing 110 over the Bayside bridge. Told him I was on no hurry, bike not running
good so I serviced the air filter, that old S&S teardrop style. he let me go cuz I was
doing bike main. but told me to keep the maint. inside the law. so yeah keep it clean
and never run an engine without the proper air filter.
Good generator.
Yeah it's nice👍
Is this a inverter generator?
I would love to get a generator. New friend Ruthie
Yes they are handy. Thank you for the comment 👍
How does it do on fuel consumption? Just tying to get an idea of fuel needed to run 24 hours.
I think you get a solid 8 hours on a tank if I recall correctly. So you need probably 10ish gallons for 24 hours. That would be a safe bet.
Hamiltonville Farm thank you for a quick response.
Can you run your AC with it?
can you help me with what kind of extension cord to buy?
I have a 125/250 outlet from my home and I have the generac 8000E
What are some things I need to have when I get my generator home?
An plug for the 220, extension cords, fuel and oil.
@@HamiltonvilleFarm 220?
If you're gonna run appliances or equipment that needs 220volts. That's a separate plug. They sale the adapters in any hardware store. (think dryer plug)
Can it deliver 240 at 30 amps?
I have a question. How do you bypass or disable the co sensor?
I have no idea
I have never owned a generator nor have I ever ran one. Is it waterproof and by that I mean can it be rained on if we are staging it on the back porch and it is raining consecutive days?
Yes. I left mine outside after Hurricane Michael for 9 days. It worked great.
Wow. That's amazing.
Nice review. Real world fuel consumption?
I'm not sure, but I remember going 10 hours on a tank and it not running out. But I cat recall how much was left in it
Better watch out for that high THD if using for home.
👍
How high is the THd for the GP8000E?
Is the generator charging the battery when it runs? Or there is a chance it dies regardless? I heard that the manual pull crank doesn’t work if the battery is not charegd
I don't think it charges it. I run mine about once every 30-45 days to keep it "fresh" But my assumption is, the battery will drain. But I have been known to be wrong. Lol
Hamiltonville Farm so do you have to have the battery charged if you just want to manually crank (pull the cord to start) it?
@@TheCoffeeField There is a battery charging cable for the battery. Just plug that in while the generator is running and viola. Charging the battery ;)
That’s what the manual pull starter is for. When the battery dies. The flywheel spinning against the magneto generates electricity to create the spark.
Hamiltonville Farm
👍
How much did the fuel cost you over 9 days?
Ive read it can be $30 daily
Well, we had friends donate fuel during the outages.
@@HamiltonvilleFarm nice friends
Why non ethanol gas?
So it doesn't go bad if it sits a long time without running
@@HamiltonvilleFarm I know this sounds dumb but where can I buy that type of fuel
@@clavenscales3196 no such thing as a dumb question. We have a gas station here that sells it. You can probably google ,"closest non ethanol fuel near me" 🤷 it's a little more pricey, but holds up longer than regular unleaded. Good luck in your search
@@HamiltonvilleFarm Bless you!!! Thanks!!!
Would it hurt to have a can of carburetor spray?
Like you didn’t explain how to use it🙄
FOR SALE;
Huge Generac paperweight sitting in my yard. Owned 6years but only has 30 hours on it.
Lol. The day it sales a hurricane will hit! 😁😂
@@HamiltonvilleFarm good point 👍
Too bad they don’t put 12v outlet to jump a car 🚗 even cheap generator carry it like harbor freight
Thanks for watching
i have bought a few portable generators of yours...... when it comes to part that come from other suppliers .....thats were i had enough. can you believe GARDNER DIXIE SALES charged me $7.03 for one nut!! parts for the generators cost to much very disappointing
That didn't help at all. You're not showing what you Are doing
