  • In this video I take the Minelab Manticore and XP Deus 2 out to a gold prospecting site to compare a few signals using small coils and the latest software updates.

    Another great vid Andy. Now, if I could just get my hands on an M8!

    I really liked that video Andy. Both detectors did very well. I don’t know about the Manticore as far as how it would have done before the last update. Deus 2 was probably not going to detect those targets before version 2.0. A big thanks to XP for both responding to your and my complaints about the lack of sensitivity of the pre 2.0 Deus 2 and for fixing the issue. Like some of the posters noted and clearly demonstrated in this video, Deus 2’s audio is just not very strong in Goldfield on small targets using the external speaker. Headphones sound much better as does adjusting the db levels of the audio equalizer for more higher frequencies and less lower frequencies for my hearing. I use almost the exact same settings as you and I keep reactivity at 2 or 2.5 and audio response on 3 or 4 depending on the amount of noisy ground and hot rocks. Turning audio response up any higher than 4 really makes hot ground sound much worse from my experience. I use the High Square tones with threshold set on 270 hz for my hearing. Also your video demonstrated how Deus 2’s audio, even though kind of weak, has much more descriptive audio responses than the Manticore which has perfectly good audio by the way. Glad you got some gold!!!

      Thanks for all your comments, Jeff. There is lots of good stuff in there.

    Thanks for showing that! Manticore sounded better to me but the Deus was better at discrimination with the iron.

    Good video, I recently logged some hours with the manticore in the gold fields. No doubt it will find small bits of everything. Nice to see in your test that when it came to small gold both machines hit. Maybe I’ll give the 2.0 a try on the D2. Just hard to pass up the audio on the minelab

      Thanks. Yea, I prefer the audio on the Manticore myself

    The sharper audio of the Manticore was a plus for my ear. Also liked your pick. Where did you find it?

      I think I got that pick from Serious Detecting.

    I've been checking a small gold nugget with my D2. The nugget is .23 grams. I can hear the nugget 3" or so away in air tests. 1/2" in mineralized soil. Not at all if I turn on discrim IAR.

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  7 місяців тому +1

      Sounds about right. I don't like the IAR disc. I think using notch is a better alternative if any disc is needed. But it does make the audio choppy.

    You didn’t say what Deus 2 update version this was. At the end, were you alluding to it being the 2.0 update? I also don’t understand having its audio response so low (4), especially when looking for tiny objects. By the way, thank you for the comparison.

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  11 місяців тому +1

      Version 2.0 my personal preference is to run audio response at 4. Run it higher if you like. But with headphones on its plenty loud.

    I want to see the same test but with 11" stock coils

    I think the ORX would eat both those machines with the eliptical hf coil on gold 😮,I realise it wasn't in the test but I have used all three and it wins hands down in high frequency, 31 kHz to 80 kHz if you need to use a VLF for detecting of tiny gold nuggets.

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  4 місяці тому

      Had an ORX and IMO the Equinox I had at the time did better on small gold. But that is going to be area dependent.

      @@RelicsRings here in the western australian goldfields I found the orx in the 70 plus kHz performs very well on the tiny bits the pi machines leave behind,I use the 10 x 5 eliptical as it is super sensitive and handles the ground fine,but as you said different conditions and places. Thankyou for replying to me.Happy hunting 🙂

    Does the 9” coil pickup small gold better than the 13” for the Deus 2 or are you only using the 9” coil due to the mineralization of the ground?

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  10 місяців тому +2

      Both are the case, small coils are usually better on small gold and they see les mineralization.

      I went out this weekend and ran the Deus 2. No gold but lots of tiny bits of wire. I did get a lot of 23/24 ground noise which sounded like a target. Occasionally it was foil but mostly ground feedback. Did you experience the same thing?

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  10 місяців тому +2

      @1CarsonChris a little but if you're getting a lot of ground feedback you need to change your settings. You can try a combination of lowering sensitivity, raising reactivity or lowering audio response. Worst case scenario, notch out those numbers. Most of your small gold will come in the low 30's

    Would this work the same if u dont have the remote and just have WS6?

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  10 місяців тому

      Yes, it should work just fine. Especially if you set up the WS6 as the master.

    I have the legend and the manticore. I am so not impressed with the manticore that I think I can say I am disappointed with its lack of depth. I have followed the instruction, updated, played and checked the settings, tried other users advice and still can not get even junk below 6 inches. 70% of the targets I get with the manticore I can get with only my pin pointer. So far in my opinion the Legend is the far better machine.

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  10 місяців тому

      Sounds like you may have a faulty machine. I would have Minelab take a look at it. I have no problem with depth on the Manticore with the proper settings.

      I have done air tests with my manticore and it seems fine in the air, but I have been using for a little over 3 months now and have not found even junk more than 6 inches. I was messing around in my yard a while back with my Legend and hit a nice signal, out of curiosity I got my manticore to see what it would show before digging the target, It did not even sound on the target at all, I dig it and it was a coin not very deep . I thought strange but did not think more about it , but I am wondering if it is working right in the dirt.

    • @RelicsRings
      @RelicsRings  10 місяців тому

      @@bennoah9780 Really doesn't sound like the Manticore is working right. I have pretty mineralized dirt and with the proper settings I can get just as deep as the Legend.
