Proxies aren't necessary for 99% of the projects in Descript. We only use if if there's a lot of original media or if we shot on a high-end camera and the original files are 100s of GBs big.
Kinda like they did with Frameio and nothing in the Frameio Premiere panel has improved in the last year. Despite that being about 1/3 of Frameio's entire lifespan.
How do you edit and sync a cam file and an external audio file? I currently use Timebolt to cut the audio and export a multicam clip to FCPX where I add and sync the cam. It's a bit messy, wondering if Descript has an easier way? Thanks.
Great suggestions and workflow Joey! Thanks! Any idea how would you tackle it if you have a multicam setup like a video podcast or an interview with two or more angles?
Thanks! Yes - Descript's 'multicam' feature is making a 'sequence' with 2 or more clips. When I tested exporting to XML it put each angle on its own track
Hey when I exported my timeline as an xml file premiere is not able to open it. Do you know of a work around for this? Do you have any idea what could be causing the problem and what I can do to solve it?
I'd reach out to their support. If you have animations or shapes or other elements brought into the composition in Descript, you can try removing them so the timeline is simpler and see if that works.
Ok, so what if my Premiere Pro interview timeline(s) have 4-8 tracks of "second system audio" /high quality pro recorded audio? Will the Descript made XML give me all of those, too? I've tried numerous TBE's(text based editing) programs out there and there is always a little "glitch" that keeps our producers and editors from adopting it and most of the time it's because we only get the edited video and not the video syncd to the hi res audio. Really hope that question makes sense. Basically, trying to easily get rid of our "radio cuts" process which , imo, is really outdated and time consuming sending AV scripts back and forth to editors. Sounds like you know what I mean but so far Reduct is a no go cause it gives you a nest. Rev's edl export function wont let you re organize bites, etc... Transcriptive Transcript is buggy and not for collabs. And on and on.
The process in this video is one direction, so you can't really go back and forth after you make the first cut and send to Premiere. But Premiere did just launch their own text based editing - that might work better: ua-cam.com/video/zEPeyTUvuG4/v-deo.html
@@vp-land Gotcha. I guess, I'm just going to have to try it out. I m anxious to see how that new PP feature works and for our specific needs. I'm really trying to keep the story producing in the producers hands as much as possible without all the back and forth. Thanks for the help and thoughts
great video! do you think one can directly create high quality videos from inside descript without needing any other software? if yes, can you make an example video
@@vp-land watched your James Clear success breakdown video. Was it fully created using Descript? Can we get anywhere closer to that using just Descript with all those animations and transitions?
@@ywueeee Sorry I missed this. Animation control in Descript is kinda weak. You could always go on Fiverr, get some animations done, and import them as videos in Descript. That's what we do when we drop the VideoBrand intro in the newer videos.

Wow, this is way more powerful than I realized.....
I don't know about proxies. but we don't do a lot of editing on long-form video much less films/documentaries.

I am waiting for the day that Descript is bought by adobe or Black Magic. It would be so awesome to have it as a plug in.
Yeah would like to see more of these features in other apps

Yes i would love understand the proxy files workflow with Descript and Final Cut Pro.

What do you do about jump cuts? Say you wanted to add that paragraph in the middle instead of the end?
For jump cuts you can cover them with b-roll, like photos or video.
For restructuring, just copy and paste the text/video to where you want it
I'd love to see a video on creating proxy files!
You got it, Camille! What editing app are you going to?

Mind blown. This is a daunting task but this tool sounds amazing.
