I came across your videos near the start of the covid lockdown n despite not being a fly angler decided I'd give tying a try. Started with no legit equipment or materials. And had fun making some ugly streamers. Slowly started adding some tools and legit materials and producing better looking flies. (To me anyway) Still using plenty of unraveled cord, yarn, stuff from craft stores, and random feathers I find floating in San Diego Bay. Had a fly outfit given to me and used some of my flies to catch largemouth, small mouth, and bluegill at Lake Mead after the lock down. I was extremely satisfying to catch fish on flies I tied. This got a bit long. Thanks for the upbeat, entertaining, inspiring, and very educational tutorials.
Thanks Gunnar! These are easily the most informative and inspirational tying videos on UA-cam. I really appreciate your take on tying and explanation of materials.
Thanks for the details on the color and the head I’m one of those guys that squirms every time he goes to spin hair. Your detailed explanation really helps.
Amazing work. I have recently put down my bait casters and spinning reels and started fly fishing again and now tying my own flys. Thanks for the inspiration to tie my own.
Thanks for the video and fly, Gunnar. I like to tie something similar for bass in the timber. I love how you use the whole feather and don't let anything go to waste. Cheers!
Love your videos. I’ve been watching you since I started fly tying years ago. Your flys are perfect and I have thoroughly enjoyed your fly tying. I have made every fly you have demonstrated. Thanks
I love this pattern and all of the design elements. There is no waste and no exotic materials. I'm looking forward to fishing this "smallmouth" pattern for big trout!
Hi Gunner;Ken from Calgary Alberta ,Canada . I gave it my best shot . Our tackle stores do not stalk tying mono. what so ever. I tried with the smallest diameter mono I had. It looked good up until the head and collar. I completed it but it may only last a few casts. The next one I will use nano silk in olive. My mono was just too thick a diameter. Thank you though for the pattern .It will work well on our Bow River.I hope😉🖖
Awesome tie Gunnar, good to see you throwing out more tying videos again. You inspired a lot in my fly tying, love your tying style and was always switching between your and Niklaus Bauer's videos for since 2018. Keep em coming!
I really appreciate your detailed narration on your thread technique ie the Chinese finger trap. Your excitement for those skins is inspirational too! Muddlers rule!
This fly looks like an absolute killer. Well I guess I got to order some more materials and tie up a bunch. Thanks for sharing this pattern and video. I always look forward to your videos and how you explain in detail on every aspect of your flies. You have definitely helped me on tying with deer hair let alone tie better streamer patterns.
Man I busted up laughing when you said "tossing a salad" 😂 so I tie a fly in this color close to this process, it's a bead chain seducer meets your bug and this one. My olive color variation is called OSCAR THE GROUCH Tie tip of schlopen in after tail (I use 3-4 at once) palmer forward use as much of the fuzzy stuff on steam as you can, makes nice collar, throw on a varying color of hackle, heckling it behind and over the bead chain eyes for the head then make nice thread head taper to eye of hook, then your choice of head cement or zap a gap, most the time I just hand whip finish. Stay Fishy
Great Fly, right up my alley! Got to try it on seatrout, perfect to imitate small gobies and such. Greetings from GERMANY, love your channel. You are really inspiring 🙂
That fly is very cool gunner
