It’s tough because he didn’t help or get himself help and left his daughter who had to raise herself to raise her younger siblings. So they’re all fucked
He’s right though. She did the best she could with what she had and she sacrificed and worked her butt off to provide for them. I know Lip worked too and so did Ian sometimes, but Fiona did so much of the dirty work of trying to raise them and also finish raising herself.
Honestly when Lip said "for what?" and the disbelief just echoes in frank's "for what..." said all that needed to be said. That for however she is spiraling now, she saved the family and did it from such a young age...its unfathomable that someone can just forget that, even when angry.
The biggest thing with Lip was that whenever Fiona messed up he felt like he was taking care of a parent and not a sibling because she was always forced into the mother role. She was always taking care of everyone else and she never even had opportunity to take care of her self because it was always viewed as selfish for her, their sibling not parent, to take care of herself. That’s too much on anyone. Had Lip been more understanding I feel as though the relationship could’ve been better between the two of them. He always felt that he was smarter and earned it, but who made sure that he continued school? Got into college? He never had to take the burden she did and he often overlooked her value.
yes. and every time fiona did end up messing up, it was hard for her to admit it because she really did carry the whole family otherwise and was used to being relied on.
Fiona sacrificed her own education so he could have one and he squandered it. She gave up opportunities to have a career, to have serious relationships, children of her own because she was always responsible for those kids. Lip was super smart but he wasn't wise enough to really see Fiona. He never let her make a mistake or be imperfect. No benefit of the doubt either. But Fiona? Always there to assume the best and show up when she could... for Lip, for Ian, for Debs, for Carl and Liam. She was always there. The least Lip could have done was be there for her instead of resent her for making him take on some of her responsibility occasionally.
I do agree with everything, but I want to look at his side as well. Noone really asked him what actually does he want from life. he continued school because they wanted him to. He did evrerything he could for people around him, and his career was one of those things as well. he never saw it as opoturnity for himself. He turned out to be a family man at the end, because thats who he really is. Just like Fiona was forced to be a mother and provide care of a mother, lip was forced to act like a father and to become succesful, so he can provide as one. He should have been more undestanding tho

I started to love their relationship the most pretty early on, they are just.... there's so much complexity and are the best dynamic on the show! Although there's a lot of great dynamics. I feel like they are "The parents" to the rest of their siblings much more than any of the others were, and that added so much interesting charge to their own interactions with each other. Fiona treated Lip like one of the kids early in the show but there were hints even in s1 of being more like equals and peers, and then especially in season 4 when he had to take over for her, he resented so much being thrust into her role, and at the same time he appreciated her more by the end of it all... And it was all so interesting to watch. I'd also loved both of those other "I Gave You All" vids you mentioned in the description so much for years and I love seeing you made one now for this pairing. So powerful, the way you vidded them. Love it all so much!
