The Railway Man - Official Trailer #1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, and starring Academy Award-winner Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, and Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman, the film is a powerful tale of survival, love and redemption.
If forgiveness and redemption has a story , this is among the best of them ..

Great comment
This is a great film. my great x2 Uncle Bill was a prisoner of the Japanese in Burma. He never came back the same. My Great Granddad also fought the Japanese in Burma. He too never came back the same. This is probably the best British vs Japanese film since The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Thank You for Your Service.

no the best film is yet to be made and that will on Subhash Bose.
WOW....this movie needs to be seen everywhere and by everybody!! My Dad suffered war dreams many, many years. Wish he were still alive to see this movie.
Wonderful performance by Colin Firth. He surely deserves an Oscar. What a talented actor.
i watched this film when it first came out in cinema and have seen it twice on T.V. since. i get choked up each time and my eyes water. it's not the brutality that gets to me or the revenge of the prisoners..it's the sheer ending that gets to me every time. amazing stuff. won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, and if you haven't..WHY NOT???
I love Jeremy Irvine xx great young actor
I love this movie. It’s so beautiful yet so painful. WW2 veterans never leave the war because those men who perished never go to leave. Most men feel ashamed that they got to leave but the other men didn’t.
My grandfather was a mechanic in ww2 repairing airplanes for the pacific theatre he almost got sent to Papua New Guinea the week the Japanese surrendered and the war was over in 1945. He never saw action but repaired planes for men who did.
Every veteran is never the same post war and this movie shows a tale that happened that shouldn’t have and was eventually resolved even through the pain.
Great film. Very moving and stellar performances. RIP to all the POWs and Civilians who died on the Burma Railroad.
Lemme Know if You Ever may want a Couple Additional Stellar, if not Transcendental War Film Recommendations..
So excited to see more of jeremy irvine.. he was so great in war horse!
Putting the song from The Thin Red Line was a great touch.
the real unbroken movie. quality.
The songs:
(in the beginning of the trailer)
Sean Redmond - Nothing Left To Lose
(in the end of the trailer)
Hans Zimmer - God U Tekem Laef Blong Mi
There's another song in the middle of the trailer, that sounds like an Adagio in D as ConnAndTheThings mentioned.
I'm surprised my Grandfather isn't featured in the movie. He was Australia's most famous soldier that worked on the Thai/Burma railway.
Lest We Forget Weary Dunlop.
+Slam_24 your grandfather went on to fight in the Vietnam war if I recall from the museum at Kanchanaburi.....he clearly learn't little from the first war he was in
I like how the whole movie is included in the trailer, even the ending....................... good job.
I hear you, but the ending wasn't really meant to be a surprise as it's a true story. It's based on the famous memoirs of Lomax.
I absolutely love Colin Firth!! :)
This is and always will be my all time favourite movie.
Same here, nothing as topped my number 1...
An amazing blunder ruined the film for me. Set in 1980 with WWII Flashbacks....the main characters are 45 to 50 years old in 1980. They would barely be teens in WWII. Incredible blunder.
Amazing film what they suffered at the hands of cruel people.
love this movie! included it in my fav list on boxxy software. wanna re-watch it with dubbing next time

This is a great film. Sometimes it is better to forgive than to remain bitter, although it is easier to forgive someone who sees the error of his ways. In my opinion, the fall of Singapore in 1942 was the greatest defeat of the British in the pacific during WWII. To the Japanese, there was no greater dishonor than surrendering, so they thought their treatment of POWs was justified. Years later many Japanese realized that it was wrong to think that way and that they were wrong.
Eric Lomax was from the same town as me. Brave man, RIP.
The irony of all this is that Eric Lomax was captured in Singapore which was part of British Malaya. After the war Britain went back to its colony to inflict masacres and torture on Malaya from 1948-60. The moral relativism of the British is something to behold
Another nomination worthy performance by Colin Firth!
Eric Lomax passed away 1 year ago today, October 8th 2012.
I'm saddened that he won't be here with us, when his horrific story is told at the box office. RIP
And the music, especially at the end.. OMG, bloody brilliant as the Brits say! I'm in LOVE with Colin Firth!
Thanks for your kind comments. No date is set for a UK Premiere, but we will make sure to update the description section to include any updates on this.
I’ve just watched this movie it’s soo beautiful and heartwarming to watch the power of forgiveness
Thank you for uploading that trailer of the film I'm looking forward so much! I can't wait!
0:21 Stellan Skarsgård's sound
Stellan is the MAN!!! I wish he got bigger Hollywood roles though. He has some good Scandinavian movies if you don't mind the subtitles
The beginning is the cutest encounter ever… so delicate, so subtile. Colin and Nicole… pure magic!
cute isnt the word id use
A must see, incredible movie.
Thank you so much for this trailer - it was very eagerly anticipated! Yes, please, I'm sure we all would appreciate being kept in the loop about premier and release dates!
And what a great trailer indeed - such poignant, captivating scenes! I can't wait to see this film and the exquisite, soulful performance of Colin portraying such a brave, brave man!
Oscar This year best supporting actress Nicole Kidman in "The Railway Man"
this movie is truly motivational & feature awareness
"I think we just witnessed the end of the British empire" the feels😭
Englistan is a shithole, hola desde Espana
Oh well I'm pleased that I made two brief appearances in the trailer as one of the POWs. Was good fun working on set. Such good catering... :P
Oh I can't wait for this movie!
Powerful stuff!
Almost cried.
For anyone interested, the song at the end is "God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi" by Hans Zimmer from The Thin Red Line.
I saw this earlier it was so good! But so emotional
I just finished the book and can't wait to watch it now!
such a good movie, i saw it yesterday
A great film, really worth watching.
From what I've heard, he lived a good long life. RIP
Goosebumps all over.. I'm truly speechless
maybe it's because I haven't seen movies much, or maybe I've been watching too much comedies or romance. but it's been such a long time since I watch an inspirational movie.
Seems amazing, And Nicole looks gorgeous
Doesn't she always?
superb film - best thing Firth has been in since Tumbledown
Hans Zimmer - God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi
This was such a great movie & I was not expecting the ending. Speechless
@@drumbum3.142 sure. What you got?
@@drumbum3.142 thank you, I will check out all of these & come back after each one with my review.
@@drumbum3.142 A Very Long Engagement, I almost cried. So heartfelt, excellent film & beautiful love story. I knew he was still alive. Great recommendation. 10/10
I agree from the bottom of my heart, couldn't sum it up better!!! :)
Another outstanding, heart-rending performance by Colin, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for plenty nominations (and wins, of course! ;)) this upcoming award season!!!
Jeremy irvine’s grandad experienced this with my grandad, they were both friends from Gamlingay
Wait what? Explain moreeee
Wait what??? Explain moreee
This looks so wonderful with two of my favorite actors.
Great movie
RIP to slaves, one hundred thousand, who died while making the railway.
Spoiler alert!
But the real life story is that Eric Lomax never met Nagase till late in life...
For those interested in this subject, check out the two war classics "Bridge on the River Kwai" and "King Rat", as well as the lesser known but still powerful "Three Came Home".
Bridge on the River Kwai is a very unrealistic and 'fantasy' version of this part of history. Many of the veterans were not happy with the way they told the story.
Caswell39A well done, mate. Also check out Rohan Rivett "Behind Bamboo" & "Australians under Nippon" -Hank Nelson. These & the above you've mentioned have helped me understand,a little, about my Grandfather, his 3 brothers,2 cousins & the families that the surviving two created. The ramifications post war for those men was dire to say the least , their new families suffered.Waste of food was unacceptable, violent nightmares were as common as men leaving home & work to go fishing in the bush with their other mates from "the line",for a week or so, at the drop of a hat.Their hatred of the Australian army, that refused to pay them their army wage "as they were prisoners, not soldiers". As a result my grandfather & his fellows never set foot in an RSL club. My grandfather died in his sleep in the middle of the day, passed a chainsaw to his son & said, mate i've got to have a lay down.He was 6ft 5,very fit & he died of old age.We have two photographs of him ,one shows a fit 19yr old upon his enlistment, the other taken 5 yrs later at his wedding, shows a man in his late forties. We need to bang on about this. The knockon effect of that very real horror 70yrs ago still impacts today. I feel that the more people know about war, what it creates, there's more of a chance we can move beyond it.
Wars dont stop when the history book said so,it goes on for generations
I was so surprised to read some comments here. Some people insisting Japan "never" apologized. You can easily find many sources on internet about how many times Japanese PM, Emperor, government people have officially apologized, and how much money Japan paid after war (actually it was much more than Germany).
Off course restoration is not just about how many times you apologized or how much money you paid, but what is your true purpose to spread that "Japan never apologized"?
+Nagisa Seashore Please explain why do the Japanese schools do not teach about this in their classes? No mention was made about Korea and China and the atrocities committed during WWII. Do you know about Unit 731, Mr Nagisa? That is a Japanese name isn't it? How come YOU Japanese have built a shrine, the YAKUSUKI shrine, to honor the dead of WWII, where even war criminals are buried? There is a locomotive in there, with a description that it was the first train to pass on the Burma-Thailand Railway. No mention of the 60,000 POWs who built it, or the Chinese labourers who died to build it.
+Nagisa Seashore What about chaning of the constitution by Abe? Your government wants Japan to attack Asia again. Did you know that Abe is the grandson of a Japanese war criminal in WWII?
You could also say Richard, why are there commemorations to the founding fathers of the USA? They owned slaves did they not? Why do you still commemorate the confederacy?
Thank you Japan, who has ended the western colonization in my homeland.
Bullshit, PMs and the Emporer murmuring "bad things shouldn't happen, maybe we should put the past behind us" when forced by the US isn't an apology, it's weasel slimy political maneuvering. Calling the Nanking Massacre the "Nanking Incident" for example, as if half a million Chinese civilians slipped and fell onto Japanese bayonets.
This movie is so underrated
The power of forgiveness above all. Can we forgive less harms nowadays?
One of my favorite movies ever ❤️
This movie is melancholy 🥺❤️
WOW - that clip has left me shaking and near tears - hope that it will be in the US in the very near future. Based on that clip alone it should be a very moving film and another wonderful performance by Colin - the rest of the cast is excellent as well!
Thanks for uploading!
looks brill! still getting over the fact you asked my uncle to star as colin firth's double while around Kanchanaburi in Thailand!
I Love this movie. I'm Thai. ^^
Jeremy Irvine ❤️❤️
Thank you - we think the Scots would appreciate it and we would all go to Scotland for the weekend! ♥
Oh, my heart is beating so fast! This is going to be amazing! Thanks for the brilliant trailer!
RIP Eric Lomax, shame he couldn't see it at the premiere
Powerful . Even the trailer. And its free on netflix
glad to see State Railway of Thailand (GE locomotive) on the Hollywood film. That is also the death railway in Kanchanaburi province, Thailand.
HARRY POTTER 9... Oh no it's a movie about War!!!
I Love you, NICOLE!!!
The train at 1:09 looks so REAL!!!
I hope the government will pay attention to it someday.
That's because it's an actual train that is still in service for people today :)
tracytracyy 555+
I do know that.
I was hoping a UK premiere would be at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh!! I look forward to seeing the film, but not the cruelty to Colin! The adorable Colin & Nicole spent 10 days filming part of the Railway Man a couple of minutes from my house in May 2012. I saw both every day and watched them filming on the beach and coming and going to the house in Tantallon Terrace, North Berwick, that I call 'Colin Firth House'! I see it every day when walking my dogs on the beach across the road from it.
I can't wait for this movie!
This is a much better trailer than trailer #2 !! Hope trailer #1 will be shown more!! I've seen this excellent film already and can thoroughly recommend it!! ******
There should be a UK Premiere too...** in Edinburgh**, at The Festival Theatre where film premieres are often held!
sooo frustrating that they keep teasing us in the USA with this awesome trailer of an awesome looking Colin Firth Nicole Kidman movie-- and there is not even a USA release date yet! CAN NOT WAIT for this film to be out in the states I want to see it so bad!!
terrific movie
can't wait this movie and I want watch it
Yes, they are indeed in their prime. We definitely improve with age...most of us.
This looks to be really good...might be hard to watch, but people lived it
It was happened in my country THAILAND
This occurred in Singapore, unless I'm mistaken.
SebCharnock More likely Burma.
The British surrendered in Singapore. You're right, it did happen in Thailand - the scenes show the River Kwai Bridge and Hellfire pass.
I thought Thailand was never colonized by Europeans and Thailand was allied with Japan. Malaya and Burma being British colonies, Singapore was under Malaya in that period of time.
does the museum exist
read the book,!! this looks like it's been to hollywood and back and barely lived to tell the tale!
Its from the move The Thin Red Line, its called "Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blom Mi"
w3r wra
Well that was a great film, hardly need to see it now
thank you so much
zimmer and firth for oscar nominations! consider also kidman (she's so good with accents) and irvine (he is the best, actually).
Three academy award winners in one film. Smh. Thats just too OP.
Kick starter lets try Collin firth
Big problem with this movie: it is all fabricated. Japanese never apologized and will never apologize for any of their wartime atrocities. This is a movie made for sentimental Americans and Westerners.
It's an individual story. An individual only.
*****
True. But the movie tells an individual story only.
This is actually based on a real man but the bit where he attacks him with a knife is fake
its based on fact. it happend,
It is actually a true story. There are elements of the film that have been added for dramatic effect, but the basic storylines of the fall of Singapore, searching for the interpreter present during all times he was tortured, the deaths, and the fact he went with the intent to kill him and what actually happened was forgiveness - all true. Read the book.
WOW!! I agree with you @Adrian Alexander. Can someone tell me when this movie will be released (in the U.S.)? Colin Firth is in his prime as is Nicole. The two of them together is amazing (from what I could see in the trailer). I LOVED him in the "King's Speech". I almost know it by heart actually. This is one I will go see in the theatre. Can't wait actually.
Looks like it has the makings of being a academy award winner.
i rode that train over the kwai river bridge. it was nice
Best movie
Super movie..oscar worthy
SPOILER... I'm sure alot more went on in that bunker than what they showed in the movie... like the blond hair guy said some things are just too painful to tell... but wow Eric lived to 93... that was just as moving to know considering how much pain & suffering he endured... I can't belieive how strong he was...
MsMimilala I never watched the movie but I read the book and it gives a good insight of what he really went through, also he always said he wanted to kill he torturer before they met and when they finally did they were in their 70s and nagase broke down and cried saying how much he was sorry and Eric eventually forgave him. Totally different than this trailer
just saw the movie, wish i had seen it before
After they met again Eric forgives him and both of them becomes great friends at the end of their life
Thank you so much for The Railway Man trailer!! TRM should be shown in the UK now! Why wait till 3 JANUARY 2014 for UK release? Can't wait to see it!! When is the UK Premiere?? Please keep us informed!! ❤😄
