Our Lowe’s would never give the items you got for free. Many time the plants died and they threw the plants away and they would sell the terra cotta planter $5 or more. Even plants are dying and it’s never cheap alway $8 and up. You got a great score 👏🏼👏🏼
Right! The Lowe’s in my area barely ever discount plants, let alone give them away. I’ve asked so many times for discounts on sad/dying plants & always am told no.😢
@@plantheartbeats No. You got someone that should have known better. I have a horrible feeling there is going to be a lecture coming up for all the employees because of this.
There was 50-80 plants in a small open dumpster at Lowe’s one day. It had frozen the night before & I guess they thought they all would die. They didn’t, most of them are still alive in my back yard & on their 2cd year. 😁
Are used to work at Lowes and they were so wasteful! I would be running around the store pulling live plants out of dumpsters and handing them to customers in the backyard. Why throw out a living thing!?

I fished plants out of the "garbage" one time and was told by Lowe's employees that it was a form of stealing. Apparently, they need to send those plants back to the growers in order to get credit for the plants that they weren't able to sell. The supervisor who stopped me told me never to do that again, and I didn't. On the other hand, that same supervisor marked down the price 50% on a lemon tree because one of the main branches broke off. It's now recuperating in my garden. I also got a 50% off on a pink dogwood for a similar reason. Usually, around October/November, Lowe's marks down whatever plants and/or trees, bushes etc. are left over from the season. They start at 25% off, then 50%, then even up to 90% off. I've gotten lots of plants that way.
Update on getting nearly free plants. My local Lowes store had orchids on sale for half price, but there was one there was was *90%* off! I got the plant for $2.00!!! So, it is now added to my collection. I thought I already had a white orchid, but it might have finished blooming. No matter! Now I have a new one! 😸
Congrats...Home Depot does this, too. I look for the freebies. Don't for forget to share your plants once they multiply. My giveaway is in April for the Earth Day. We must do our part to save Mother Earth.
Congrats you won the clearance lottery:)! I've never heard of any store giving away anything for free. Our Lowes does not do free plants and certainly not free pots, but I do check their death rack and have gotten a few good deals on occasion - always worth a look. That’s so nice of the Lowes employee. An employee at Lowes gave me a bunch of those same pots last year. Hello Plant Lover, I assume that you know that most of the plants from nurseries were planted in a mix that has a great amount of peat moss. When it gets very dry it is difficult to moisten it.... BUT if you use warm water, not hot, as that would burn roots But warm water is more easily absorbed into the soil. for the pests use a q tip dipped into rubbing alcohol and touch those critters it will often kill them. congratulations on your plant rescue. Rick
Thanks! Yes alcohol is wonderful to kill mealy bugs, my preferred method as well! In this case I used a spray that kills different kinds of pests varieties just in case. Thanks for the tips!
Wish they would be so generous like that at my Lowes is El Paso. They used to have any pretty good clearance and have some for $1, but know they dont even do that.
I am really surprise they gave them to you. I have tried for years to hit Home Depot and Lowes for throw aways. The managers stated that they can not give them away because people bring them back to get money for them. GEEZ!
Lowe and home Depot is great for giving great discounts on plants that are damaged, dying, thier consumer can bring back to life. That why I love plant shopping at these stores. Wish I could have gotten some plants for free.
Definitely check inside the pots once they have had a chance to perk up, especially the aglaenema. I got 2 from Lowes last year, they started acting funny after a few months. When i checked on the roots, i discovered every single stem ended in a plastic hydroponic root plug. Same thing with the dragon tree i also purchased there.
Thanks! I actually repotted the anglonema yesterday and it did have those small plastic pots!!! Hopefully now she has a better change of recovery. Thanks for sharing! I think everyone needs to check their anglonema from Costa Farms.
@@plantheartbeats i think anything "cane" from that producer will likely have them. I would bet your diefenbachia probably will also. The only other things i ever purchased from them was a tetrasperma and african violet and neither one of those had them.
Great deal! Aglaonema like to dry more than your average houseplant and are easy to rot if the soil stays too dense and moist so just make sure to let her sufficiently dry and other than that, they're super easy. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing. You really lucked up. Our Home Depot in Capital Heights Maryland once Sold me a broken pot for a 5% discount, keep in mind we have a 6% tax rate😂. I was told by the manager they could not GIVE ANYTHING away even if it’s broken or dead.
Spider mites were the first pest I ever got when I was new to plants and I thought I had killed the plants so I just kept throwing them out for a few years. Luckily they were only cheap plants that I could get again at home depot or lowe's but now I can treat them pretty easily that I don't even miss a beat when I see spider mites
@@lettyguerragirlbills792 I just spray them down with the shower head every other day for a few weeks and it usually works. I always catch it early though because I do light inspections all the time
My guess is that you have a dieffenbachia compacta. Light veining through the center, wider green outside margins. Fairly common and since it came from Lowes I'm going to assume the plant you have is not too rare a variety.
I have gotten nice pots, and a ton of starter pots from Lowes going early on Saturday morning, going to start asking about plants on my next Saturday trip!
Well, that is wonderful. I was Wal Mart one day to buy impatient plants. So I see a worker pushing a tall metal cart to the back of the store full of only Impatient plants, and they were in bloom. I asked the worker if I could buy some, and he said no, I have to throw them out . SMH ..
So glad you were able to save some plants. I tried to save some orchids at Lowe's but they wouldn't let me. The woman dumping them said they had to be counted and sent to the supplier for reimbursement to the store. She threw out a whole cart full. So sad.
I spray alcohol on my plants if I see mealy bugs, about 50% it doesn't seem to hurt the plant, but it just melts those bugs, nasty little pests! Much easier than trying to wipe down all the leaves, sometimes I may have to give them a second spray in 2 or 3 weeks. I wish my Lowes would give dying plants away, they usually don't even put them on clearance! Pitiful!!!
You got quite the haul. They turned out lovely. I live in NC too but Fayetteville Lowes would never. I've seen these plants looking way worse on clearance and ranging around $7. Did i mention that was clearance? Maybe I'll build up enough courage to ask for freebies someday.
So happy you rescued them!I see so many plants over watered at Lowes and Home Depot that end up in the trash and I think they try to recupe the money they lose by increasing the prices.Good luck 😊Hi from Maine
I bought a amaryllis that was in very bad shape the check out lady said that plant is ugly I said yes but it is a great price the next spring it bloomed and was very beautiful I wished I could show it to the checkout lady
I'm so glad you are saving these beauties! Can I ask...how did you know they were going to throw them away? Were they near the dumpster? I want to go to Lowe's and look for some free plants!
The diffenbachia is varigated diffenenbachia, I have 3 and that's what they were labeled. Nice score on these plants. I am a clearance rack junkie and as you said , most only need some water. ❤
This my first time watching and I am very surprise of how many free stuff you get. Second learn so much I am a believed of plants are like children we have to care for them . Thank you

I love your face how it lights up with excitement, i would just be like you happy , What a bargain
🌿🍃👏💕...I do the same. It's so satisfying to rescue these almost dying plants back to life!!
💚💚💚
I, too, am a plant recuser and love the way you cleaned them up. Happy growing!
Thanks! 💚💚💚
Beautiful plants. Hope you are able to save them all. That had to be so exciting to find that deal.
Yes it was unreal. 😀💚
Great deal! Aglaonema like to dry more than your average houseplant and are easy to rot if the soil stays too dense and moist so just make sure to let her sufficiently dry and other than that, they're super easy. Good luck!
Thanks for the tips!
😢😅
Spider mites were the first pest I ever got when I was new to plants and I thought I had killed the plants so I just kept throwing them out for a few years. Luckily they were only cheap plants that I could get again at home depot or lowe's but now I can treat them pretty easily that I don't even miss a beat when I see spider mites
What do you use to kill?
@@lettyguerragirlbills792 I just spray them down with the shower head every other day for a few weeks and it usually works. I always catch it early though because I do light inspections all the time
I'm so glad you were able to rescue all those plants from the trash!!
Me too!!! Thanks!! 💚💚💚 so happy to help a little bit!
How cool 😍😍😍😍😍 great job saving them....thank you so much for sharing have an amazing week💚💚💚
Thank you! You too!
You are the real deal, the real plant Mom!
Just a little bit of love goes a long way I’m a plant mom I was just so excited to see you rescue those plants I do the same thing every day😍😍🪴
Thanks!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Well, that is wonderful. I was Wal Mart one day to buy impatient plants. So I see a worker pushing a tall metal cart to the back of the store full of only Impatient plants, and they were in bloom. I asked the worker if I could buy some, and he said no, I have to throw them out . SMH ..
😭 so SAD!!!
So glad you were able to save some plants. I tried to save some orchids at Lowe's but they wouldn't let me. The woman dumping them said they had to be counted and sent to the supplier for reimbursement to the store. She threw out a whole cart full. So sad.
Oh man that hurts. I imagine that’s usually the case. I was surprised they said yes but I imagine that’s not going to happen again. 💚
Similar thing happened to me at one of my big box stores. Seemed like a waste.
Pitiful!!!
I agree.💚
OMG I’m so jealous! But good on you for saving them!!
Thanks Mioshee! 💚💚💚
So glad you were able to save them!
Thanks!
Try submerging the root ball in water for a little while so the roots can rehydrate. Great haul. Good luck.
Great idea! Thanks
Good on you saving those beauties!
💚💚💚 yes!!! Let’s give them an other chance!!
You got quite the haul. They turned out lovely. I live in NC too but Fayetteville Lowes would never. I've seen these plants looking way worse on clearance and ranging around $7. Did i mention that was clearance? Maybe I'll build up enough courage to ask for freebies someday.
Wow I learned so much from you!Loved the way you demonstrated and explained everything!Look forward to more info.
Glad it was helpful!
So happy you rescued them!I see so many plants over watered at Lowes and Home Depot that end up in the trash and I think they try to recupe the money they lose by increasing the prices.Good luck 😊Hi from Maine
Hello! 💚
Wow. You were in the right place at the right time! Lucky you!!
Yes! 😅
Made me think of all the beautiful things being thrown away that could be donated.
Exactly… so sad…
I bought a amaryllis that was in very bad shape the check out lady said that plant is ugly I said yes but it is a great price the next spring it bloomed and was very beautiful I wished I could show it to the checkout lady
Yes! 👏🏻
I need to get a part time job at Lowes…. I know exactly where I would work!
Me too! lol 😂
I've been saving plants from Lowe's but I've payed over 50% off the price. It's awesome that they do this for customers
Mee to… normally 50% off… but in this case I don’t know why but they have it ready to throw them away and I was there in the right moment I guess…
@@plantheartbeats I saw alot of plants in the trash and no they will not give to me.
Ooh LA LA.. I am envious...happy for you that you got a green bounty... Happy growing
Thanks 😊💚💚💚
Calatheas do not like tap water if it contains chlorine or chloramine. Distilled water or rain water is best. Good luck with your new babies.
Thanks for the reminder!😅💚
I'm so glad you are saving these beauties! Can I ask...how did you know they were going to throw them away? Were they near the dumpster? I want to go to Lowe's and look for some free plants!
I know their plan was throw them away… I imagine that they have a dumpster somewhere around outside the building…. But I’m not sure…
@@plantheartbeats how about the pots??? How did you know to ask
I was there and see all these plants , but even in that condition where to expensive, I wish I can have free to rescue them!!!!
I see it too!! I wish the same!
The diffenbachia is varigated diffenenbachia, I have 3 and that's what they were labeled. Nice score on these plants. I am a clearance rack junkie and as you said , most only need some water. ❤
Thanks!
This my first time watching and I am very surprise of how many free stuff you get. Second learn so much I am a believed of plants are like children we have to care for them . Thank you
Thanks!! 💚💚💚
