Was literally about to says that 😂 then seen your comment
Glad Dad and family got away for a break and swim. Have a great week everyone. Be Well Be You
The corn is looking well. Your young stock are gorgeous!! I hope you, Jo and Harvey are well. The Ginger Warrior and your Mom look like they are having a great time. Happy growing. 💗💙🐄
Thank you Tom for bringing us this video even though you've gone away 👏👏👏
Tom, A poor growing year, lots of knocks, stay positive and start forming your contingency plans and get in first with your remedial action. Regards, Stephen.
Hello. Tom I am a Norwegian farmer who will be traveling to the UK with my family from August 9 to August 14 and I was wondering if it would have been possible to get a small tour of your farm on August 12? I have been watching your channel for a long time and am a big fan. Dealing with milk, cheese and meat at home in Norway.
This has Sunday video vibes! 🙌
❤ from Norway
What did you say you called the guy who advised you about your maize?
Agronomy, Agronomyst 😊
@@andyprice6946 Never heard of it in my life. After all I live in Northern Ireland 😂😂
Pictures of your old man made the video worth it Pal 👍 clearly enjoy some R&D
It is kind of odd when you start watching the newest upload from one of your favorite youtubers and you see your self loading up after buying stuff for lunch.
Around here in Suffolk, 48 metre sprayers are the norm these days, while some veg growers in The Netherlands now use 53 metre sprayers that I presume matches their beds/crop spacings.
@@alexveldhuis6004 😮
Hey Papa Tom. 36 Meter sprayer?? That's the largest sprayer I have ever seen !!
Hope Mama Pemberton and the boy are doing well. Seems like The Papa's back surgery was a success !!
Come to the netherlands.. 54 meter sprayers..
It just needs more thermal units. The wet stunted it but it should be ok. It may be little delayed but give it time.
This year has been a challenge for you Farmers Ive watch the pain and pondering. Aleays something to learn as you folks learn .
Thankyou for the vid . May the maize 🌽🌽 grow as you learn it .!!
Praying for the Maze, let's hope after all the hard work that's gone into starting the crop, that it pays off.n🤞👍
👍👍 Too wet and too cold. That's your problem. And like you said you're not alone. It is what it is. If you get enough heat, you'll be fine
Love the video. Glad your dad & family are enjoying themselves. Once it warms up, itll get going too.
I hope the ginger guys having a good time. And the sprayer sure did work
Absolutely love the content. Can't wait to see and hear more about the share farm agreement. Your a legend for the transformation your doing on the farm.
Love the music at the start of the video Tom,you have done it good putting the video together.
Thanks Tom
Maize/corn is a WARM season grass. Planting it as someone did in early July, the ground will be nice and warm and the seeds will shoot out of the ground. Whereas, in your case, the ground is cold, they just sit there and wait until the warmth comes. And some will rot during the wait. I would venture a guess that the late planting will catch up easily to yours if not exceed it. Best wishes.
Yes, thought we weren't getting a video today for a minute 😊
The weeds are totally usual. Round us everything is sprayed with a pre emergent and sometimes something after emerging. This is a standard practice that has to be done near us. It's totally usual .
it is a shit year for all crops in the north. a pity your first try for it is this year.
wish you strength
You are right. It isn't much better here in Japan either. We've had too much heat and sun at a time when it should have been wet in some areas and far, far too much rain in other areas. Since Tom, by his own admission, is learning, it is a good year to learn though. A kind of crash course into maize growing and any normal year after this will be far, far easier because of it.
Cows were talking to you Tom. They love you!
I am in Kansas, center of the United States. Love to see how other countrys, regions farm thier land...That spray rig looks huge massive for your area, but hear since its wide open spaces it looks like a toy...
Everyone hear has the 500 to 600hp tractors, 60 foot wide planters hi speed ect ect.
It sure is humbeling to see the differant approachs used and methods.
@11:20 "Deer, the bane of my life." Remember Tom, you are also the bane of the deer's life! I have battled with pheasants, slugs, voles and flea beatles blighting my crops this year, and I know I'm the bane of theirs.
11:20 “Deer, the bane of your life” Venison in the farm shop 👍🏻
Great video Tom the maize is looking great! I'd bring that up with your agronomist the leaves being broken and patchy. Me being a horticulturalist blight is very common with the temperatures we have here in the UK :)
Tom if the first cut was such poor quality and other farmers are struggling with the wet too, any maize crop will help to supplement the feed in the winter. Silage will be in short supply so It was the right decision to go for maize even if it's not a big crop. Don't beat yourself up!
Hello Tom, the corn you planted in the field looks good despite the seasonal conditions. But I recommend you to use seaweed fertilizer to make it better.
Hi Tom hope you have a great day and week keep it up with these vids
This may not go down well on a Lancastrian’s youtube channel, but have a look at Sam Shut Farming. A Yorkshire farmer and mum on marginal land. She’s quite a lass.
The Race for the Maize 2024 😎
9:10 Tom, although i have no farming experience, i do know this: Corn can grow VERY fast. Our garden at home overlooks a cropfield where in the past it was growing corn every 2 out of 3 years. When we would go away for 7 days on holiday somewhere, we would leave with the corn being about 3 feet tall, when we came back, the corn was nearly double that. Given good conditions, you could probably timelapse 3 days of corn and visualy see them grow.
another great video Tom
A bit of rain, a fair bit of sun, and it’d do your maize a world of good. That just isn’t happening this year. Here’s to hoping it works out.
Thoroughly enjoyed thiw one tom! Must be pretty nervous when trying something new like this for the first time and with that sum of investment. Look forward to the maze journey with you. Hope the mighty ginge had a good time in France.
Looks good tom it will all work out and you will have a good crop of maize 🌽
I watched a video the other day where they were using large drones the spray the crops. It was like something out of a sci-fi movie.
Good morning from NZ. That is a huge sprayer.
It may not be the best year for Maize but if you’re able to get through and get a crop the next years will be a breeze in comparison!
i noticed a huge difference in maze crops on the train last week, one field was say 2 ft high, field beside was barely through
Goodmorning Tom and family!!! I ready to watch!!!wow ,, I’m first again !!! Love your videos !!!
Great maize update 👌🏻 could you spray on some liquid fert?? Here’s hoping that ye’ll have a great dry crop 🤞🏻 also maybe check your maize fencing if you can keep out them 🦌 🤔
Jesus, that sprayer is huge. Music 👍👍👍💯💯💯
your videos are really crazy, this work is really touching😜😜
14:00 great content again
Always enjoy your videos keep up the good work 👍👍👍🇮🇪
Good for you.
Maybe try some "maize boost" at about 4inches. For future endeavours
"Knee high" is an old Midwestern American saying. Their plants bake in the sun, so I doubt you could keep up with them in the UK. Also, with the new hybrid seed, it's more like knee high by June 10-15th.
Lol you want light rain in the evenings and warm humid sunny days to grow corn...I grew up on a dairy farm and we grew corn for silage...knee high by the 4th of july is and old wise tale...maybe if you're in the South East U.S.
i think what could be a worry for you is a late harvest........idealy you wanted it to romp away now and be harvesting late september /early october before the ground gets wet.......you may be harvesting it before it's ripe. but we will see , maybe we will get a dry warm autumn
Another very interesting video Thank 😊😊😊😊
Thought of trying whole crop instead wheat or barley. Always been my preference to maize. Too expensive to grow and can trash fields in October harvesting. Cut whole crop in mid july and under sow a ley and can cut that September.
Ugh. For some seeds, cold and wet is a recipe for rot. (Finally… something I understand. LOL) We understand crop envy, Tom. We’ve all had it. What’s the brand of herbicide you’re using and what’s its half life?
Honestly tom i wouldnt worry yet. Were growing 1400 acres weve got some fields on sandy land that are 5-6ft but then some of the other heavy land fields are 1-2ft 🤷♂️ maize hates compaction so anh old wet spots or heavy traffic areas really want subsoiling to allow the maize to get through the plough pan so somrthing to think next year? We also run a pre and post emergant spray along with a topical herbicide later on jf we need it. Youll get there its a bad year for everyone so your not alone
Hi Tom, I love the content, as always. I was wondering, how to you calculate the impact on a Summer like this on Winter Feed? If you have less forage and silage do you rely on more bag meal, or do you bring in other forage? Thanks
If this is the first time using the ground for maize you will have spotty and patchy places. As you test your soil from year to year and improve the mineral content it will get better.
Great video would be nice to know the dates you do your operations on the farm
That maize is so far behind, even in June it was above knee high around here. It's now above the waist.
That maize near Eccy show was started under plastic
wow, never seen anything with the reach of that sprayer!
Wish you listed the music you use, especially spray segment. Thanks for your help.
its a Harshe year Tom!! ... just pray and see!!
Great video Tom and interesting one 👍👍
I drove around Alentejo Norte this weekend and I saw lots of maize fields with tall maize, like at least 150 height. But they have these giant gps irrigation things (which surely have a name but I don't know them - not in Dutch, not in English and not in Portugese). Some how this is a weird year. Our figs have lots of figs but very small and have of them are burned. From the Netherlands I am used to the contractors putting in the maize after the 1st of May and it being harvested at the end of September. Don't know when they do it in Portugal. But I also see lots of fields with maize where the maize is used to harvest the cobs. Still not sure if the cobs are used as animal feed or if people use the kernels for making meal.
Amaizeing!😂
Great video Tom
Great video Tom 😊
Good stuff
45.5m is very common here in Australia
Tom, you just can’t catch a break this year! 🙏🤞🏻. Love you you and your family
have some trufst mate.
that corn is cone by alright😀
Enjoyed the video ✔️
Your a fly magnet
Wild venison for the farm shop I reckon! 😊
Tom, you should talk to @colethecornstar I know the countries are different, but he may be able to get you advice on your corn crop. I'm sure with planing delay & weather have affected your crop. Great photos at the end.😊
theres a couple 54m sprayers about
the damage on your maize is badgers
great video
Not to say I told you so but you should have spent the extra on the plastic 🙈Our maize is sitting around 6 ft high now
Exactly he is too far North to grow successfully without plastic.
You are spot on with this comment...the plastic is the best job
Hi❤❤❤
So in USA you can get 180’ booms. Yes 180 feet or 54.86 meters
Corn “maize” is a warm season grass. The warm weather will make it jump up.
That sprayer has a MASSIVE reach. Wow.
Anyone else feel like tom is our big brother
Yes as I've learnt young cattle if there's a hole in a fence they will find it and make use of it😂
Can anyone explain why the rows are so far apart? Because the space between the mazi in a row doesn't have to be so far apart so why does the space between rows? It can't just be for the headers surely?!!?
Hi tom. Ive seen maize done with plastic sheeting over it. Would that of made any difference?
Hi Tom if you need a hand with controlling the deer am in St Anne’s
No one said it was going going to be easy!
If they did they lied !
How much Dap did you put down the spout under the seed ?
Whatch out for the dear. Ppl are suggesting they are now spreading TB
I didn't realize Brits celebrated the 4th of July. I guess they were happy to get rid of the pesky colonists, lol.
Misery loves company, except feed over winter will be spenny
Not just you, crap maize everywhere not been the season for it
The weather has been against you peeps this year
i dont know how old this video is but your corn looks burned up. no irrigation on that? should be at least waist high by now
This Year is not a Maize Year when you are too wet and cold.
This is a Killer for Maize.
Normaly our Maize is great but this Year it will be very disappointing because it was too wet and cold 😑
And no sun
@@robertferguson2705 Yes i forgot
its not just your maize tom, not had a good year on my allotments probably the worse year ive ever known, spuds have died of and a lot of stuff not grown at all.
we grow maize in the SW of the US, I kinda thought you might be bonkers trying to grow maize in the conditions you show. We have to irrigate to get grass, not like your amazing grass from just rain.
