Those aren't tightening threads on those caps. Tighter u go threads get further apart. There's a video on here showing that. Cut it out or replace rubber seal or Oring.youll be back for sure
The pressure may be too high for Nylog to keep it from leaking. I found Nylog is useless. Replace the service valve or do a bypass line with a service port are good solutions.
hey mate great clip been enjoying them for a while just wanted to say $400 for a bottle of r22 ain't that bad come down here to Australia our price is just above the $1300 mark
Nice video. Hello from the west coast in northern California. If that were to leak again and the leak lock didn't hold. I found some o rings at Baker Distributing that can repair those service valves.
I also have the fieldpiece wireless scales i love them, man they are the best if you gotta make a trip to the van or truck or loading up you can keep a close eye on the charge while doing so,time saver for sure!!! have a good 1 man!!!
Can you remove the snap ring and replace the o rings on that leaking valve? great find on that leaking valve. nice sman guages! I really enjoy your great videos.... keep up the good work
You take the time to recover the unit, but won't FiX the problem? I can see putting sealant on it as a quick fix if you did not want to replace the coolant at that moment but man it was already empty! Change the valve!
Israel. I have been in Construction since forever. And in business since 01. Worknis just too hard and cheap now. I have been really pondering w. The idea of going into hvac. As my last hoorah until I retire. We are currently in ny . (Sucks) but we have our vacation home in fla. And everytime we go down we kick ourselves for not staying. Most of our friends have moved andree every day. So what pointers could u give and of course what courses should I take. Apex tech charges close to 30k and that is plain too much. Do u think it is possible to learn on the job? I may have my hvac people that may be willing to train it is a single or 2 person outfit but they are good people that I have had good business when they have services me . Thanks
How did you remove the charge? Would have liked to see that. Didn't put a wet rag or something during the braze and most likely the internals are cooked on that valve. Can't just use teflon tape instead of nylog? Did you let the liquid on the high side or low side or both? Did you have to start the unit to get the 7lb 4 oz in? Didn't see that in the vid. Keep em coming. Merry Christmas to you too.
No good deed goes unpunished. He fixed his sister's unit at no charge. It's an old R22 unit that will have to be replaced soon anyway. Band aid is good enough. That valve has been leaking since the installation 10 years ago. The cap held it until now. This fix will probably last until it dies. A "real" service man with "honor" and "integrity" would have replaced the valve and charged her $1000 to fix a unit that may go out tomorrow. Lighten up.
I like your videos but you should have use snap ring pliers & backed service valve out, inspected o-ring & replaced it. You're fixing a symptom of the problem.
I realy enjoyed your video l got a 2001 Amana . Who makes those, Are they any good. They told me it was Leaking 3 weeks ago, And it still works perfect. I've been sending I've been sending $40 a month for 19 years . Now they want me to buy a new one. I thought they Should fix the leak ,what do you think. It could be something small at the shrader valve. I really think they're trying to rip me off
Amana is Goodmans other brand, same stuff different brand. Goodman is Toyota and Amana is lexus. Both the same though. If your system is r22 i would just replace the system. R22 is obsolete, your system is old. Most repairs on old acs are costly anyways.
Good video ... just wanted to know when I use the nitrogen to leak test do I have to run a vacuum first to rid the unit of whats left of the charge or can I just add the nitrogen straight? And to what psi should my nitrogen charge be too?
Hey John !!! Great Job taking Care of Sister Brother !!! I LOVE Nylog , it is the Poo !!! LOL ... John Merry Christmas to You and Your Entire Family my Friend !!! Great Video !!!
If your from the metro new Orleans area due you know if dial one help is a good company. They have something called a Kacie monitor 12,000 PC to be eexact
The nitrogen pressure didn't rise. The unreclaimed refrigerant still in the system has risen in pressure. What if the refrigerant left over should have made the system rise to 204.5! How would you know to "call it fixed" purge the refrigerant with nitrogen so you don't have this error in your method.
Great video John !!! Killed all them La. deer yet,lol ? My health went south, haven't worked since August and missed this entire season. Nylog will often cure what ails ya. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Take care, Brett
i get not wanting to invest a ton on this, you know family situation but could you have replaced the valve on the this? this unit probably half way in its life span. i would hate for you to waste all that r22, its so expensive.
Hi Israelhvac question? what's the best way or effective to check a leak I have put freon on my unit and it just last me only 2 weeks can I check a leak with the injectable fluorescent dye ? on R-22?
Miamigo Denegri pressurize the system to about 300 psi for r22 400 for 410, also add a tracer gas 35psi of refrigerant. Buy yourself a good electronic leak detector Tek mate tif zx and fieldpiece make some good ones that won't break the bank. Search for a leak with your leak detector and confirm with soap bubbles. Try to never put anything in your system other than refrigerant and oil. If you can't find the leak then your last resort should be to vacuum test. Put it in a vacuum and let it pull down. Shut off the pump and isolate the system, if your microns shoot up past 2000 then you know you got a leak
What is a tracer gas, how does it work ? Your last resort is a pull down vacume ? Do you mean to only check from service port to evap inside , what about OD condensor then . We have a leak somewhere . 3yr Trane 3 ton . Saw no visible oil . OD shut down 3 times first yr winter due to defrost board defect. Could high pressure have caused leak in OD before unit shut itself down ? Unit was ok 3/17 perfect subcool 10deg 5/18 needed 3.2 lbs . Can you advise . Want to be sure tech does the right process and or repair .
oldtimedrumcorps a tracer gas is just refrigerant about 35 psi so that your electronic leak detector can sniff it out. I would also only use the refrigerant that the system is rated for. Some people use r22 even on a 410 system as a tracer gas because it's easier to be picked up by the electronic leak detector. Don't recommend it but it works
oldtimedrumcorps also I meant to vacuum down the system to confirm if you actually have a leak. The real last resort would be dye or leak stop but I don't like using those things.
Your videos are good but why didnt you fix the problem or check if any of those solder joints were leaking.Unfortunatly I think you’ll be back to fix the original problem sorry but what you did was a bandaid repair that’s not going to last. Sorry but I think you’ll be back. Hopefully not good luck
We have made us some lead washers out of sheet lead to solve this problems. The right "O" rings are aviable if you can find them. It's a better "O" ring that what you might fine.
Why the long speach? You repeat EVERYTHING you say 2-3 times! No one cares about anything except the title of the video, just get to the point ie the title of the video. It's annoying when someone drags out a 2 minute video for as long as you did. Non of us know your sister, father, wife, Jay Jay or big Bob or the serial number, or that you going to lunch or that you were there a couple a days ago, no 1 week actually!
He didn't replace the valve cause in two weeks or so he'll be back and make more money. And no one cares who you go eat with, you repeated it like 10 times.
I love watching service techs from other trades work for some reason
Those aren't tightening threads on those caps. Tighter u go threads get further apart. There's a video on here showing that. Cut it out or replace rubber seal or Oring.youll be back for sure

nice job. I have almost 30 years in the business. you are very thorough and know your shit! awesome video.

I am with George W, why not replace the service valve washers.
How do you say backyard mechanic, boy he must hate his sister lol hehe
Why not lub. the seal rubber ring?
He got it reeeeeeel gooooooood
I was taught that the CAP was the secondary. NOT THE PRIMARY STOP!!!
Can you remove the snap ring and replace the o rings on that leaking valve? great find on that leaking valve. nice sman guages!

Good stuff John and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Nylog is super! Service valves are a pain!
shouldnt the valve really be replaced more of temp. solution?
How did you remove the charge? Would have liked to see that. Didn't put a wet rag or something during the braze and most likely the internals are cooked on that valve. like the scale I will look in to getting one thanx for the video
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years
Would teflon tape work as good?

f that fix the damn leak the caps just gonna rattle loose sad video!
I guess you've never used nylog? It won't rattle loose
You are such a lucky man, forty minutes for lunch with your wife. That leak down test would have lasted two hours if I had lunch with my wife.
I realy enjoyed your video l got a 2001 Amana . Who makes those, Are they any good. They told me it was Leaking 3 weeks ago, And it still works perfect. Imo for a family member this is an ok temp fix. Should replace that valve though .
Good video
Have you tried a Halide Torch Leak Detector for R-22 leaks?
hey,a question-are you charging with liquid-if so,how do you do it-throttling?Merry Christmas.thanx!
I really appreciate this video, thanks!
Nice video ! Thanks !
Just checking out some retro John. How are ya bud?!
Good video ... just wanted to know when I use the nitrogen to leak test do I have to run a vacuum first to rid the unit of whats left of the charge or can I just add the nitrogen straight? And to what psi should my nitrogen charge be too?
Ronald Lee huh?
Hey John !!!
Great Job taking Care of Sister Brother !!!
I LOVE Nylog , it is the Poo !!! LOL ...
John Merry Christmas to You and Your Entire Family my Friend !!!
Great Video !!!
Was that unit built in Wichita?
If your from the metro new Orleans area due you know if dial one help is a good company. They have something called a Kacie monitor 12,000 PC to be eexact
Good Stuff!!
What manifold gauge are you using
We call that a Friday-Fix
can you vaccum it down with the service valves open
Yes, it just takes longer because you're evacuating the condenser to
The nitrogen pressure didn't rise. The unreclaimed refrigerant still in the system has risen in pressure. What if the refrigerant left over should have made the system rise to 204.5! Some of those Parker Valves were Shit ... Found a Bunch up here in Rheems ..
Hi John, can I move my condenser unit while it’s connected about five inches or am I risking a leak? Thank you
just be careful and dont break those copper linesets or its going to be very expensive
I felt like I was out of breath watching this video holy cow...
i get not wanting to invest a ton on this, you know family situation but could you have replaced the valve on the this? this unit probably half way in its life span. i would hate for you to waste all that r22, its so expensive.
Thanks lot
Is that purple? I didn’t know they made units in color. 🤔
It's an LSU styled condenser. I guess company's were using that as a marketing tool
HONESTLY I DIDNT LIKE YOU GLUE THE SUCTION LINE
Grease?
I think you meant oil! LOL
On that side of the unit why is there a tiger with a blue background paint?
he's in Louisiana and its a purple background with gold tiger,, go
lsu!
LSU Baton Rouge Baby
Good job on the leak fix! Merry Christmas John! Sister Sister LOL!
good dude!!!
Replace the valve
That shouldn't be a solder joint it should be brazed
How much is freon ? I had some guy charge my AC for 250. After one day it stop working again. My guess it is a leak.
Chunky Fresh it's really expensive if you got it for 250 good.
What size nitrogen tank do you take on a job like that
Size is 40
You took out the refrigerant and not changed the service valves🤔
Hi Israelhvac

OBVIOUSLY COOKING BACON NEAR THE SUCTION LINE WILL GET "GREASE" ON IT.
Is he the black kid from Malcolm in the Middle?
your valve is leaking..pressurize find repair and charge..

Why not just blow all the nitrogen out and then evacuate the system
We have made us some lead washers out of sheet lead to solve this problems. The right "O" rings are aviable if you can find them. It's a better "O" ring that what you might fine.
We were shown something similar to that in school a few months ago, but it was a punch which produced a full circle of lead to go underneath the cap.
any thing wireless will zap you with radiation.
Too wordy, off subject, panning camera, and glue the lid on for your sister? What did you have for lunch? Change the valve big brother !!
If is fixed is fixed. You don't have to like it.
