Problem: Sword canes are forbidden by law in Germany. Because they are "concealed weapons" and having standing blades exceeding a few centimeters. You can _own_ an sword cane in Germany as a collector, but it has to be displayed in a locked case, with the sword out of the cane sheath. But you are technically forbidden to sell or buy one, so the only way to get one would be to inherit one. That said, I could've bought one at a gamer convention once and I really wanted one for a 1920s cosplay, but... I didn't.
As an American I fail to see why I can't make my own decision on what I want to arm myself with for self defense, yet there are many laws (infringements) telling me what and where I can have defensive items.
It's a shame he didn't explain the hobble skirt. That was literally lethal fashion resulting in several women dying due to the immobility. And it was sadly inspired by the first US woman (Edith Berg) who flew on an airplane tying a rope around her skirt to keep it from flying up in the wind as the airplane moved.
7:20 Yes, exactly. It would completely screw up your posture and cause all kinds of pack pain, neck pain, pinched nerves. But hey, after awhile they wouldn't have to *pretend* to be crippled anymore!
The suit jacket/sport coat bottom button thing still exists. A few years of styles relaxing was never going to make the look less less relaxed. Many jackets incorporated it into their design a long time ago, with the bottom quarters being a bit open for better ventilation and more comfort riding a horse
The Victorian English Wore Black....because Queen Victoria Wore black (In mourning) Also, keep in mind, most pictures...they're not wearing black, they're just not color pictures
I don't know anything about buttoning suit jackets because I generally don't wear suits. Also I love the fact that Crocs are below foot binding on the bizarre fashion trend iceberg. Just get some real sandals, man. I still might have some lingering trauma from when I worked for an inventory service and we did a Crocs store. That shit smells worse than a tire warehouse. I looked up Mexican pointy boots to see if they have a real name but the Spanish name for them directly translates into "Mexican pointy boots" (Botas picudas mexicanas). Also pineapple on pizza is delicious, as long as it doesn't clash with the other toppings. I like ham (or Canadian bacon, same thing), mushrooms, and jalapenos (or habaneros if that's an option) on a pizza with pineapple. Wouldn't go well on my actual favorite pizza, which is an alfredo sauce pizza with anchovies, green olives, mushrooms, and Italian sausage. It's not like pizza sauces at most chain pizza places aren't too sweet anyway. Especially Papa John's, I used to work there and their sauce has way too much sugar in it for a good savory pizza.
A lot of fassion in history seems to follow the "look im so rich i can wear this incredibly impractical and fragile thing that needs 4 other people to tie it on" rule. Also "commor" corsets were apparently pretty loose and fairly comfortable, it was just rich women who went with the wasp waist and that was mostly to appease each other.
I think even most rich women were more reasonable with their corsets, and only their equivalents to trendy celebrities or idiots tried serious tightlacing. You don't even need to tightlace to get a small waisted look. Just add volume to the skirt or sleeves and you're good.
I think two of the most underrated fashion... Early 19th century Lancers (especially the Bear Revolt era) Long Manlets with the geometric patterns in 8th and 9th century Jerusalem.
The button rules still apply, at least as far back as fifteen years ago when I was taking junior cotillion classes. They're taught to women too now. I still try to follow them when I can; sometimes I have to stand up and sit down multiple times in a few minutes, making following the rules difficult. xD
Not a fashion but a book recommendation - "The Lost City of the Monkey God" by Douglas Preston. It's a non-fiction and I think you'd enjoy it quite a bit.
During the 90's, 90's fashion was cool. Then it became cringe for some 20 years, before people bringing it back ironically or nostalgically at first until it became authentically cool again. That's just how it works.
with all due respect there is a difference between function, comfort and form. crocks are ugly, but are comfortable, not quite as useful as steel toe boots though (my personal fave footwear choice)
9:04 Well, I have a pair of shoes like that... but it's only because I broke the heel by stepping off a surprisingly tall kerb badly and haven't taken them to be repaired yet... good to know that I can pass them off as haute couture for the time being though. ^.~
speaking of glasses, i would love to see you re-react to The History of the Entire World...I Guess. I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched that lol
As a woman I can say it's a definite no to those tilted shoes. My level of coordination without shoes almost at a zero as it is. I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back the 20s flapper dresses and or the 50s poodle skirts. And hell, for the fun of it , the half cut shirts and short shorts for men from the 80s. 😂 Bring back that Richard Simmons flair.
I have psoriatic arthritis in both knees. I already limp on both legs. So if it's super fashionable to live on 2k mg of Advil daily just to function I guess I'm already there.
Yes Columbus by definition discovered pineapples because he and 90% of the world back then didn't know they even existed just because a group of people know about something and another group of people eventually learn about that thing doesn't mean the second group didn't discover it because discovery just means learning about something new

Hey @MrTerry hate to say it but you're wrong about the US moving into Hawaii for pineapples, there were indeed a number of Americans in Hawaii growing pineapples and setting up plantations, and they actually staged a coup at one point and tried to get the US to annex them like Texas, however the US basically told them to screw off and that they weren't going to recognize them and to put the Hawaiin monarchy back. It was a decade or two later that the US moved in, and then it wasn't exactly for economic reasons. The Hawaiians were doing a pretty good job of playing various powers with pacific interests (mainly the US, Britain and Japan) off against each other, but the Japanese started to get more and more influential as the US was eyeing Honolulu for a naval station and eventually the US moved in and more or less forced the issue, largely because Hawaii's location in the center of the pacific is extremely strategically valuable, the US navy still has massive facilities at Honolulu and there are large arsenals on the island housing a significant amount of the US munitions stockpiles since it's a convenient place to have them if we needed to run military operations anywhere in east or south asia.
I want corsets to come back. They weren't torture devices. They supported the back and bosom. Also, Victorian women's clothing was actually very colorful. It looks dull because of photography tech being black and white.
Bring the awesome boots trend back. Current trends are getting overrated. And the pineapple helmet needs to make appearance, that'd be sick Also I'm with you on the crocs
Mr. Terry, please look for a PRI (Postural Restoration Institute) certified physical therapist in your area. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I'm in a similar boat and out of all the doctors and therapists I've gone to over the past decade, these guys are the only ones who have actually made a lasting difference for me.
We can just consider T-shirt + comfy pants + sneakers fashionable and boom! We have fashion that is confortable. Perhaps we just need some monarch to show the example although tech giants have already done this I think
I don't mean to brag but i have my own authentic limp. I mean, i have scoliosis, uneven hips and one shorter leg but if the limping came back id save a fortune!
Mr. Terry calling different sized shoes dumb while describing a problem he has that could be fixed with different sized shoes. Just get those lifts insecure men get on the short side. Walk even my dude 👍
What fashion trends do YOU think need to come back?
Carrying swords
Mutton Chops
Cloaks
Cloaks. Heraldry, beige detective trench coats
Begging to your mom or dad
You can definetly make an entire medieval style armor using only pineapples, and you, the person reading this, should do it
If the intrusive thoughts win...
Gaim Pine Arms
Do this and walk into a pizzeria xD
defensive spiked armor, I like it! 🍍

Fashionable canes and cane swords should definitely make a comeback.
And fashionable swords. How cool would that be?

Cloaks. Cloaks and capes and capelets. One-shoulder capes. Give. Give me the dramatic flappy swooshiness. But add pockets.
Id rock one of those shoulder cloaks
Throw a couple pockets in there, perfect winter wear
Wearing bedsheets “0:08”?
Buddy come join me and my friends in our club where that’s all we do 😂
It's a shame he didn't explain the hobble skirt. That was literally lethal fashion resulting in several women dying due to the immobility. Yes, you should watch 'The Peaky Blinders'. Such a good show. Brilliant acting. You'd def find some history there.
One piece of clothing that is wildly underrated is cloaks. I have a black wool cloak that my wife had made for me and I love it.

Loving the JoJos Bozzare Adventure aside. Giorno Brando, son of Dio Brando. The biggest Anime Villain imo
definitely recommend peaky blinders - it's really entertaining and interesting from a historical perspective as well
The late 18th century, early to late 19th century clothing styles, they’re fashionable.
A lot of fassion in history seems to follow the "look im so rich i can wear this incredibly impractical and fragile thing that needs 4 other people to tie it on" rule. I wear winklepickers all the time. I think they look great. Not ones with ridiculously long toes, but pointy enough to kill a bug in a corner.
I personally like the pinstripe suits in the early 20th Century.
Pointy boots basically the start to a jester cosplay.
7:37 - same here; skeletal deformities suck. 😠
