There exists more than one name for many countries and languages. Check back here to this post (which I will be editing, so give it a like! 😊) in a few days for a more complete list of nationalities and language names. In the meantime, consult the dictionaries I discuss here: ua-cam.com/video/ZHBknn3rIuo/v-deo.html
Living languages (at least the ones recognized as official languages) adopt names for countries in a more or less arbitrary manner (why don't Italians call Germany Allemagna, or Greeks still call France Γαλλία?), but they end up standardizing that name, either via some centralized authority or by the frequent usage of the term. This is a problem with modern Latin, a lot of names don't appear to have a de facto standard, so it feels like anything goes.
Why did you omit the country and nationality Israel and Israeli of the couple?
@@erickr404 This is why I dislike the use of Svetica, because the region has historically been known in Latin as Scandza or Scandinavia, or even Scania, I mean even using a direct translation of the region as Periculo Insularia would be a better name. I mean Gaius Plinius Secundus used Scandinavia. And let's be frank, Sweden isn't a nation, it's a hellhole, every citizen of Sweden, speaks their own languages, yet we're all forced to call ourselves Swedish because no one knows what Dale or Scane or Bonn(not the German city) is, and as such we're all forced to live in this hellhole of oppression. I mean a city 100km away from me, is literally called Dangerous sandbank in old North Germanic. Skanör, and below that city lies Falsterbo, a town with reefs and an extremely shallow ocean.

@@theflyingfox8204 I'm currently learning it, and, whilst I am still in infancy stages, the use of Independent pronoun 'Anak' (i.e. jnk = 'I') and the toponym 'Kumet' (i.e. kmt) for Egypt lead me to believe he is definitely using a reconstruction of Middle Egyptian.
Love that you provided Latinized names for the countries and the people's names. An excellent touch :')

Your channel is by far the best latin channel on YT. I'm Brazilian and I love learning about Latin and romance languages, although I can only speak Portuguese and Spanish. My humble congrats.
Muito obrigado, Joazim! 😊You're very kind. Thanks!
I thought this one was especially good! During the first half, I assumed that the video clips were all stock clips of people from various countries demonstrating greetings in their native languages. I was in for a wonderful surprise in the second half! It all made for a very entertaining and fascinating way to do a bunch of reps of a few phrases about geography and language. Very cool! Grātiās tibi agō.
You are extremely generous to support the channel in this way! Thanks so much, and also for the nice comment.

SALVETE AMICI, IN VENEZVELA HABITO. IN VENEZVELA HISPANICE LOQVNTVR, EGO AMO LINGVAM LATINAM.
This was so heartwarming! It's a nice answer to those who say that Latin is useless to study, as it is a "dead" languages. Well, if that's the case, then are we zombies?!
I am thinking to go to University and learning Latin seems such a cool thing to do, but I'm really scared that I won't find a job (I want to be a teacher in Taiwan, so... might be kinda hard). This video made it 10 times harder to choose not to study Latin haha!
Gratias tibi ago, hac pellicula bellissima'st!
王成珍 왕성진Fabio grātiās prō commentāriīs tuīs, ō Fabie! Yes, it can be dicey to teach. But it doesn’t mean you can’t learn it really well. Only some of the Latin speakers you saw in the video are teachers. Others are enthusiasts. 😊
I would encourage you to study Latin (and Greek if possible) in college! I did that and had no problem getting a job teaching. But a degree in Classics is also a great foundation for other areas of study. After teaching Latin and Greek for some years I got an MA in Applied Linguistics, which allowed me to get a teaching job in Alexandria, Egypt.
Latin is a dead language technically, but it is very much required to learn or at least comprehend for any history enthusiast or Scholar. It's importance in linguistics and anthropology is equally as high. To make it short, if you want to have a career in humanistic studies, you'll probably need to learn Latin sooner or later.
There are lots of ways to learn a language without having to major in it in college. Your best bet will be reading Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata, watching channels like this one, and connecting with other Latin learners so you can practice together. Dicendo dicere discis: you learn to speak by speaking. Best of luck!
This style of teaching is so valuable. A non Latin speaker can watch this and because it is spoken in such an intuitive way, begin to piece things together while they listen. Though I have no ability to speak Latin, I found I was able to follow along and understand what was being said. You really feel yourself learning here, you begin by attempting to translate in your head, but by the end of the video you have some degree of inherent understanding of what is being said, though you may not consciously comprehend it. It is very reminiscent of the way that children pick up on languages when they are young and I think it's such an underrated form of learning. It's so refreshing to see language learning made this intuitive, and I thank you and pray you continue to make more videos like this!
I’m really glad you like it! Thanks for watching and sharing
I love it! I’m from Brazil studying latin language and enjoying a lot.
Muito obrigado! 😊 I’m so glad you find them useful.

If more people learn Latin and have kids then they can teach Latin to their kids. I wonder how it would be learning Latin as a first language?
I know some people who do raise their children bilingually! As an exclusive language? That’s another story. I would love it!

Ego civis Romana sum!
I was born in Romae Caput Mundi in 1969, and, I have ever been living in Romæ since I was born. I am very glad to inform You that, when I was a little child, I learn to spoke the local Roman language, that is in use, here, in Latium, a region in the central Italica Peninsula, on the tirrenian coast, where Romæ, Caput Mundi, took Her Origins.
Ancient Romains were used to call this region " Latium et Campania ", including Neaples et Romæ in the same central region of the ancient civilized world.
At the primary and secondary Pubblic School, here in Rome, the Italian Authorities, that have a barbarian origin, don't permits the teaching of the ancient Latin Language.
And now, I have to learn Latin Language, my truly Mother Tongue, by myself ! And this is very difficult !
When I was a little child I, and the other children, used to say
"ÈCCÉTE!" or "ÈCCÉTE QUÀ!"
that means both "here you are!".
But now! Tanks to my origins, here in Rome, where I grown up, I can have the confirmation that Your Pronounciation of Ancient Latin Language is correct!!!

Thank you, Luke! This video made me start refreshing my Latin after almost 35 years. What a great motivational video! I am working with more than ten languages, but Luke, you are exceptional! I made it to your Hans Olberg hommage "Lingua Latina per se illustra pars 13" so far, just from the flow of this above video. Yes, it has lengths, and I love it like that. There are so many people in there and each one is unique. Apart from that I watched at least two hours of yours because your work is just so amazing. I didn't know there is something like that, at all. There are some other masters, you point to them in some of your videos, and again: Thank you! I had Latin for seven years in school and it was terrible. It was exactly the opposite of your work. My initial re-interest in Latin comes from reading Dante's Inferno, it is half the way there, so to speak. But this Latin experience was not expected, it just captivated me! Also like your Greek bits, will get back to that if life span allows. Many many friendly regards from Germania. What an outstanding and memorable motivational video! And yet so new!

I want to incorporate a Latin motto in a family crest design that I'm working on but I haven't been able to find what I need, so I decided to learn the language for myself and then I just got hooked.
The most trouble I'm having is getting the endings right, the grammar seems pretty complicated but I'm amazed to see that I was able to follow the content of this video without any problem.
Thanks for the amazing videos you make and the motivation I get from them!
In case you were wondering the motto for the family crest is "Never forget where you come from".
So far I have "Numquam obliviscar ex qua venisti" but based on what I recently learnt I think it might be better to say "Numquam obliviscar ubi venis" but I'm not sure...
