We are totally blown away with your skills, empathy, & composure during constant mayhem. Not used to seeing all three qualities and then a dope video on UA-cam after! 😂
We’re sorry our sound guy couldn’t make it but we will definitely put in a good word at the Pony!
Thanks again for everything, hope to work with you again! Congrats on the channel and apologies for your grandma!
Appreciate the kind words. You guys killed and that Thunderkiss 65 cover was insanely good. Awesome energy throughout your whole set.
Hope to work with you guys in some capacity down the line. You’re the blue print of what makes bands desirable to work with and I wish every band conducted themselves the way you guys do. Genuine pleasure.
Whenever you upload a POV u know its gonna be a good day sir
Appreciate it. Thanks!
you know the next 40 minutes will be good when you see a video from chris in your feed
I know it's a good day when you guys watch!
You probably make these guys nights with such good attitude, making them sound and look so good. Dream sound guy.
I'm getting a lot of "you are one of the best sound guys we had" comments lately from bands and it does feel damn good, for sure.
I have subscribed a few weeks ago and damn this channel is exploding. Keep up the great content!
Appreciate it!
glad to see your channel grow so quickly! you fully deserve all the success you'll get!
Appreciate it!
Thanks for everything
You're welcome!
I watched Doyle on a really big festival here in Mexico and I got really excited when I saw the title of the video! Love your channel hope you keep uploading
I fully intend to keep going.
Dude, I dig how you interact with the bands and how you do your comments, it's a breath of fresh air to see people interact on UA-cam the way you do. Great video man, oh yeah and F caner it's an enemy to us all, respect! :)
Appreciate it. I try to respond to every comment in some way. Glad you like the channel. Thanks for the support. B
What a GREAT way to finish the day (9PM here...)!!!
PS: Sorry for your loss...
Glad to be a happy night cap.
There is a great vocalist hidden in Wolfspeak, very well hidden :D Nice energy though :)
They brought great energy
I subscribed to the channel when I think you had a little under or right around 1k subscribers. Happy your channels growing!
Appreciate the follow. Thanks for the support.
idk why but i find mixing live sound to be satisfying. good video dude!
Glad you enjoyed.
I'm loving these videos. This was me 30 years ago! I would have loved a digital console back then. I work on the supply side of the business, now.
This club has great production for such a small capacity place. I hope that the artists appreciate this.
The bands usually appreciate the effort me and the staff bring them. Can’t please everyone as is with life but nearly every band has a positive experience.
this is fucking awesome!!
Appreciate it!
Great! I just don’t know how singers that sing like that can still have voices lol. Great work Chris! I like the dual videos. I, too, am sorry for the loss of your grandmother. 92, I hope I make it that long.
Appreciate it. I can never attempt to sing like that even at my most drunkest lol.
😂
Thanks for the video. I watched all of your Dingbatz videos and its so interesting to see how it is to do sound in a small club with "normal" equipment. Even somehow more interesting for me than the ones about the multi million dollar productions in huge stadiums.
Btw. I like more the sound from your external recorder. The sound from the console often has the too much of the vocals. I like more the "real" sound from the venue.
So do I personally. It’s a lot easier and quicker to edit the videos too.
With what I’m noticing the board audio has less guitars than anything else but when I switch to room audio you clearly hear them. I mix for the room not the board audio.
@@chrishammillaudio Yes, for sure. The board audio doesn't include the sound from the amps and cabs on stage. Thats why its not the same as the "real" sound in the venue i assume.
I wonder if a tiered shelf or swing arm would help move that lighting console closer to the X32 so you can run them both without having to move as much.
That may work for me, but I’m not the only tech that works here.
Awesome video sir!
Do you often have to do quick sound checks during the show like that? You handled it so well lol
Were they late?
Almost every show. First band gets a sound check before doors and I adjust lightly according to whatever the next band needs. I don't let a band start their set unless they're happy with stage volume and monitors.
Why are your mute buttons on the sound board different colours like green and purple and stuff. Also amazing work! Love your POV vids
Mute buttons are always red. The tracks are labeled by color by instrument.
Hi, great videos... did you use reverb on lead voice? in general... thanks
Yes. As well as a delay.
Hey! Love the content. What does "Striking the drum kit" mean?
Taking it off the stage.
I was susposed to work with him this past Saturday at the NB MA show. However was booked for a wedding in Boston....😊
Dude I'm soo sorry about your grandma...
Appreciate it.
Yeah, Doyle was a fun band to work. Really good show.
Hi Chris, new sub here, loving the content. I’ve noticed you use this phrase a few times so far in this video but what does it mean to strike a drum kit?
Removing from stage.
Hey Chris, your videos are amazing! Also, I have a question as a non-native english speaker: what it means to "strike the drumkit"? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching. It means move the kit off the stage. “Striking” a set/stage means cleaning up everything and the stage/room/set is bare bones.
@@chrishammillaudio Thanks!
Love your channel man, can we get a close up of your limiter settings?
Squeeze at 0. Knee at 5. Limit to -6 output. Input gain 0. Usually having -3 to -6db gain reduction from drum peaks and vocals.
@@chrishammillaudio Thank you sir I will try this on my next gig.
Damn, I didn't know that El Generico can shred like this. 😂
You should see Kevin Owens on bass. Dude can SHRED. 🤣
2nd bands snare drum sounds sooooo good
Yeah. It sounded fantastic.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother man! I can empathize with you on that, mine passed away last month on her birthday :(
One day when you upgrade jobs and get consistent work at the stone pony, you should do a subscriber shootout to see who should take your spot at Dingbatz, ha! 😜
On a more serious note, how often do you all get groups who use digital solutions such as Kempers/Axe Effects/Helixes? I know they aren't "the most metal" thing ever and most people may prefer an amp and cab in your scene, but I am very pro digital/modelling and am very much in favor of those vs 150lbs of gear 🤣
- Thanks. Sorry about your loss too. Never is easy.
- I think I'm gonna stay at Dingbatz as long as I can. They've been really good to me, the owner is a sweet guy and the staff here are super fun. Unless something really big is offered I'm always gonna be here in some capacity.
- Digital amps are so good now that you almost can't tell the difference. I prefer them in a live setting. Better audio control.
@@chrishammillaudio Appreciate it!
Yeah it definitely seems like a great venue to work for! I only have 2 local venues similar that do rock & metal music: One is called Capone's (Johnson City TN) and they usually get some pretty big acts through there. Have had numerous people ranging from bands like Trivium, to John 5 & Slash, to country artists 😂 From what I can tell from video Dingbatz definitely feels like it does haha
Those are JUST the kind of bands that come through the venue.
does the behringer x32 connect to an internet router and does the router to connect to a stage box on stage?
That is exactly how it works. Stage box connected with ethernet cable.
Hey Chris! I’m starting to take an interest in audio engendering, hence why i watch your videos, but this summer i will likely intern at a local studio, do you have any tips or things an 18 y/o chris would want to know? thank you in advance
- learning some core principles of recording.
- learn WHY gear doesn’t matter, only the instrument and the musician playing.
- Learn why gear DOES matter in context of how the source sound is manipulated by the circuitry.
- Learn how studios that stay in business stay in business when home studios can do quality recordings for half the price.
- Learn marketing strategies for how to run a business.
- Shadowing an experienced engineer and just watch how they work.
omg whomever coiled those cables!! 😭
They are my worst enemy
Probably a silly question, but what exactly does "striking" a drum kit mean? I hear you mention it a few times in the video, thanks!
Getting the drum kit off the stage.
I can't believe how compliant the guitar players were about turning down their mains. How do you do it?? 🙂Also, given that the room isn't treated what's the acoustic difference like between empty house when soundchecking and showtime when it's full of bodies?
The room will be treated soon. I’m donating my old panels to be used as acoustic treatment.
I adjust the low end where needed. I wish I had a more complex technical answer but I really just adjust low end where needed.
@@chrishammillaudio Hrm, I"m surprised you don't get more hi-mids bouncing around when it's empty. All those early reflections!
I get those as well, but if you look at the stage, it’s surrounded by really thick curtains. They act as a lot of high-end absorption. The upper mids with 1-4K is where I see most high-end reflections on the walls on the dance floor way more lower end though.
What for LED Lights habe you in the background of the Band in top ?
Not sure the specific name. I think they're Rockville's
Hey Chris! I really enjoyed the video! Could you perhaps in a future video talk about gain staging in a live situation? And especially when it comes to loud music like Doyle, Wolfspeak etc.?
Thanks for the video, great stuff!
Sure!
How did the headliner get that drum kit through the doors?? 😂
Whoops, not the headliner, Salem's Child.
Very carefully 😂
hello what do you have on top of the stage box
There’s nothing on the box. It’s enclosed in a case.
what does "striking a drum kit" mean in this context?
Taking it off the stage.
what does striking a kit mean?
playing the drum kit
@@imzeflash4700 no. it means taking their kit off the stage
Getting it off the stage.
21:59 Metal Buddy Holly lick
lol completely gone over my head
What song is it at 24.35?
Don’t know. I don’t pay attention to house music. Shazam it.
"Drums are starting to oxidize"....I thought drummers liked patina on cymbals and stuff.
Drummers are a whole other breed of weird. 🤷♂️
niceeee...!! but i wonder what the clorox for? haha
To clean the console.
I will go b a Dj
Go for it.
I always store unused cabs with the speakers to the wall.
So do I usually but headliners most of the time want nothing on stage except their gear.
@@chrishammillaudio No doubt. Great channel btw.
Thanks!
