My Pappy would love this when I was young Dad would take me to see all the great jazz bands of the day,it was a 6 hr round trip ,I remember dad he was so happy at all the Jazz concerts in New Zealand
Eric Reed (out of Los Angeles and a member of Wynton's group at this time) WONDERFUL on piano!!
Each time you think you know where Ruby is going in a solo, he goes somewhere else. He and Bobby Hacket best two cornet players ever.
both Cape Codders
Really!
I thought W. Marssllis essa black?
Lovely tempo.
Ruby has always been a little under rated in my opinion. He is a very lyrical player.
I agree -
His emphysema affected his playing in later life, but, he was an inventive and lyricaltrumpeter
@Tim Clarke Braff's not underrated in my Cd/LP collection, he's at the top. Try the CD "Ruby Braff And His Musical Friends"; you might say why did I clutter up my mind with alot of other stuff. Now you might say, 'who wants to listen to a bunch of old dead guys, just like what my girlfriend says; but these guys were fairly young then. The CD "Ruby Braff and his Musical Friends" will give you a big charge, just get past the few cuts of classical music; don't miss "You Meet The Nicest People In Your Dreams".
Interesting reworking of the chord changes on the piano/cornet duet.
Nice "Smoke gets in your eyes" quote going on..
He did a little Duke in his solo, sweet
+chris rice Yeah he caught the A train
I also heard a nod to Hoagy's Moonlight in Vermont.
How many quotes does Braff play?
Answers on a postcard please.
No prizes!
For those who don’t know the difference, Ruby played the Cornet not the trumpet and yes he was a very lyrical and inventive player.
Even the great ones use traditional clothes pins to keep their music from blowing off their stands on a breezy day.
Where’s Wynton?
Ruby Braff => Master of Improvisation.
What's the name of the trumpet player? Wynston MarsaLLis? I've heard of Wynston MarsaLis but this is definately not Wynston MarsaLis
Ruby Braff
Ruby Braff - poster isn't too knowledgeable and doesn't have enough sense to inquire before posting. Great playing though!
bing crosby was here
Ruby not underated by me or indeed by most of his contemporary players.
Please take the ‘Wynton Marsallis’ name off the title, it is disingenuous to the performers.
