Try your hand at making botanical inks from things in your kitchen, yard or a green space near you! I have been wanting to try this for so long and in today's video I show you my EASY process of making inks and dyes from natural items. Once you try it once you'll want to try everything that grows around you too! From flowers to weeks, berries to nut shells, it is amazing the variety of colors that can be harvested from nature.
I hope you enjoy this video. I'll link below the items that I purchased from AMAZON, but honestly, you can use anything you have handy. Small jars, some basic kitchen tools and ingredients and you are on your way to being a natural mad-scientist like me!

Jutta, thank you dear friend for your always enthusiastic and supportive comments. I will love thinking of myself as a madame Curie of art... oh how I wish. Thanks for watching and for your encouragement.
this is so much fun! I can't wait to start foraging and trying some of these myself! Seems like the possibilities are endless - and surprising at that. Love that some colors turned out way different than expected. And your cabinet is stunning, my friend! I love how you have all your ink bottles in there ready to be used. Wonderful!
Thank you Sharon for your love and support today and always. As the last blooms are disappearing I'm on the hunt for wild grapes, berries, nut hulls and anything else before the snow comes. LOL Thanks for watching!
Hi Michelle, have missed you! This video was absolutely fantastic, I save my ink bottles to my printer & create colors! Thanks for sharing & have a wonderful day!🤗💜🌻💕
Hi Diana! What a great idea about the ink bottles... I am for sure doing that next time before I recycle them! Thanks for sharing that tip!

I love this so much. Thank you so much for sharing the process and the fun you had. This must have taken you hours, fun hours for sure. The way you displayed the bottles in your craft room is like the perfect magical Instagram display 🍂🍁💕🧚♀️
Hi Maud, thanks for watching. Yes it took time, but it was really enjoyable to throw a batch together here and there over harvest time. I can't wait to be in the middle of winter using my ink made from flower. Thanks for the kindness and friendship.
This looks fun! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is a fantastic video, Thank you, really informative and so interesting....
Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks for a thorough and easy to listen tutorial. I've been experimenting like you. And this has answered a few of my missing info.
I'm glad it helped. I think experimentation is the only way to discover the best process for us and favorite plants to use. Thanks for watching and commenting !
This was fantastic and fun! Well done!
Wintergreen essential oil is good as a preserveative.
Barry, thank you for adding that tip, I think I'll buy that next time as that will smell sooooo much better than the essential oil I have been using in my inks. Thanks for watching and for your kind words.
I got that tip from Kelly at Book an paper arts
So much fun, and very inspiring ❤ I have stood on the brink of doing this several times but I haven't mustered up the courage 😅 thank you for filming and sharing so I don't have to do it myself 😉
HAHA Maureen I'm happy to do the work for you. LOL. You sweet comment made me smile. Thanks for the love and friendship today!
Thank you for sharing your process!! Such fun experiments. I bought a book by Nick Neddo The Organic Artist that you may enjoy. Thank you for sharing your plant journey with us 💚
Thank you so much for that recommendation, I will totally look that up!!!
I am from NH to! I can't wait to do this.
It’s a perfect time to harvest in NH- so many flowers still blooming, acorns, nut hulls… harvest for inks. Where are you in the State? I’m in Merrimack.
@@MichelleRaeLandry NO WAY! I am in Amherst closest to Merrimack! Hey neighbor!
Could i also use fruit skins/peels like oranges?
I wondered the exact same thing! Grapes and Avocados worked great… so I am going to try oranges next… but it’s always a mystery. I believe herbs, beets, berries will give me great colors, but citrus peels are a mystery . ( if they do work - lemons, limes, oranges !!!) if you try it let me know and if I try it I’ll post on my IG and I’ll comment here.
