The only trouble is that official Bowmore is marketed to a public that's largely uneducated about whisky, that public is the majority of their customers, and Diageo probably wants to retain its market share. What you have there, Erik, is a bottle from a cask that probably didn't quite fit the house style, even though it may be exceptional to the noses and palates of whisky nerds like us, so it was sold off to the Indy market.
"The way Bowmore should be released"-- well said. An honest presentation all around and this sound amazing. Another great review, Erik. You are right, the price is a major downside for this one. Stay healthy and happy.
Couldn’t agree more. I bought a bottle also. Drank it (choked it down) past the shoulder and I was still so disappointed. It was a little better with a half teaspoon of water in my opinion but so very disappointing. On the bright side I traded my buddy his bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask which he didn’t care for so I wasn’t out a whole bunch in that regard.
Bowmore is one of those distilleries where the IB's often outclass official releases. Some people over there should be taking a good, hard, long look in the mirror, I think. Cheers Erik
Good review of bowmore Eric👍. The only official bowmore I really like that ive had is the tempest batch Nr 6. 10 yrs old, cask strength, non chill filtered ,and matured in 1st fill bourbon casks. Light Smokey and loads of tropical fruits 👍.
Since you ask, I have four IB that are all better than the Distillery 18 IMHO: 1. Bowmore 1996 14 yo. Murray McDavid - Chateau Petrus Cask -46% 2, Bowmore 1996 22 yo HL Old Malt Cask - refill Hogshead - 53.9% 3. Bowmore 1997 20 yo DL Old Particular - refill Hogshead - 55.75% 4. Bowmore 12 yo CWC Exclusive Malts - Sherry Cask - 58.4% As always, thanks for all you share!
Have you tried any of the Tempest batches? I think they might be some of the best bottles that Bowmore themselves release. Plus it's a great value buy in my opinion.
17 yo first editions bourbon cask strength boom so much better than the official 18. And I don't think the 18 is that bad. Probably wouldn't have gone down and opened the first editions if not for this review. Thanks!
On another note - I have many amazing bottles from the DL Old Particular collection. Currently I am drinking the 1991 25 yo Bunnahabhain. I wonder if you will ever do a podcast on this great DL collection?
I would like to do more DL bottles and K&L Wine Merchants in the San Francisco Bay Area carries a lot of them but I moved out of the area. So, maybe in the future I'll drive to the BAY Area and pick some bottles up.

Now this is the kinda Bowmore I’d like to try, particularly after my nasty experience with the 15 Darkest. Cheers Erik.

Had a really good Adelphi Bowmore 23 yr, probably best Bowmore I've tried so far.
We have an independent Bowmore also. Love it.

Feel free to invite me to your house to help you drink them!
Erik Wait one day when we are allowed to leave our houses!

Sounds wonderful. A pity that it was a single barrel as it is so limited. Great video Erik.
Your cander is very refreshing. Thank you for another great review and your honesty in reviewing and recommending the whiskey you review
Thanks. I am not beholden to anyone so I am free to say it like I see it (or taste it).
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies that's why I enjoy watching your reviews. You're amazing
