      Yeah. Thief, tramp and liar or not, he genuinely does seem to have some sort of code of honour. He does save Greirat, after all, though he goes out of his way to make sure Greirat doesn't know it was him. It seems likely to me that the only reason he kicked you, here, rather than just showing you where you needed to go, was for the same reason: he didn't want to damage his reputation. Even at the end of the world.
      Patches is fucking weird.

    My strange theory with the egg is that its Gwyn's attempt at keeping time frozen in the age of fire, but with the egg slowly cracking, time started to become convoluted, unstable. Constantly trying to anchor back to the egg's Age of Fire but kept getting more unstable the more broken it got, and once it fully broke, time was no longer anchored to the age of fire, so it fastforwarded to what the world wold truly be at that point in time.

      Which begs the question, "how did the egg get cracked?" and how in the hell did Gwyn get his hands on it? Filia nore has been locked in the tower for literally thousands of years and not woken up to crack the egg,why is an egg that so powerful it can anchor the passage of time so fragile that it can be cracked by overall wear and tear over the ages? Perhaps another theory to coincide with that one,is that the egg is containing a large amount of humanity,thus shepherding the humans into an endless age of fire that may never end? This still needs work though,i saw your theory a few months ago and have been working on a more in depth theory,as to what the hell the egg is,why it cracked because of the passage of time when it is meant to anchor time in place,and why has the rest of the world gone on into time? Perhaps the egg is there as a fail-safe should dark-sun Gwyndolin die ( or otherwise fail in his duty),and the illusion is broken.Maybe it's there to maintain the illusion a bit longer,so that others may link the fire after Lord Gwyn. (this is pure speculation on my part,and i'm new to dark souls theories and lore,so forgive me if i broke some of the lore right there, I used to play the games for fun and never cared about the lore.)

    #21: Gael's messages are unique. In addition to the normal orange soapstone appearance, they have the same sort of skull-flames coming off of them that he does in his second phase. This would seem to imply that, even at the start of the DLC, before he reaches the Ringed City, Gael has already been heavily corrupted by the large number of human souls he's consumed.

      In my head canon, the Dark Souls series is a bunch of people sitting around a bonfire, waiting for, and dreading, the moment it finally ends.
      As they wait, each person tells a story. They recall old memories, old stories from long ago. They speak of old gods and heroes without really understanding their true importance.
      Every once in a while, they'll find a few pieces of garbage, a ruined sword or broken shield, and try to remember what they meant to their original owners. They spin tales of grand kingdoms and legends, not really knowing if they're really telling the truth.
      Eventually, the fire finally fades away, and nothing remains.

    The egg also has a strong resemblance to a Transposing Kiln, which also resembles the Vagrants. After this DLC does anyone else believe Ludleth is a Pygmie? They look exactly the same, same body structure, same frailness, same facial structure, fuck everything other than us not really being able to see any of his hair. Even with legs he would still be the same size as them and is the only Lord of Cinder that is significantly smaller than the player, just like the Pygmies.

    • @lordhelmchen3154
      @lordhelmchen3154 7 років тому +3

      But Ludleth was once the "Soulfeeder" a really powerfull kind of demon or beast that ravaged whole Courland. Until his corpse got burned that is (hence Ludleth's charred skin). That indicated to me that Ludleth became so powerfull because he fed on the souls of others, and in the end he gained so much power he became a lord of cinder, pretty similar to Aldrich.
      And the pygmies are pretty much humans, so many characters have the same size as the pygmy in the ash area.

    • @Cathart1c
      @Cathart1c 7 років тому +12

      Ludleth WASN'T the Soulfeeder, he KILLED Soulfeeder and transposed his soul.

    • @WhiskeyTango76s
      @WhiskeyTango76s 7 років тому +4

      Lord Helmchen I don't believe he himself was the Soulfeeder but I'm not going to say he isn't because I honestly don't know. One reason why I don't believe he's the Soulfeeder is the fact he's wearing a ring that, I believe it's description notes that(I'm not currently looking at it so I might be wrong) it was transposed from it's soul and if Ludleth was the Soulfeeder then wouldn't that make him a hollow since he has no Soul or at the very least wouldn't that make his presence ultimately useless? I don't believe anyone would willingly put themselves through that horror of being burned alive(undead but they have feelings too) knowing that it serves no purpose?
      Ludleth is the only NPC I've ever seen in the Souls series(I haven't played the first so I can't include that one as well, fuck I hope they remaster or at least port it and DeS, I'd be happy with a simple port) that has that structure. There's no modern humans that look like that from what I've seen and their differences are very distinct from everything we see, besides Ludleth who shares their likeness.

    • @lordhelmchen3154
      @lordhelmchen3154 7 років тому +4

      Hmm you got a point. But Ludleth speaks about his "charred/burned" body multiple times, and the Skull Ring's description says something about "even after his body was burned" or so. Always made sense to me... :D But yes that "transposed from" thing is a valid argument. *Or* could it be that the ring was automatically transposed from Ludleth's soul when he died? Maybe because he had the transposing kiln with him and is skilled in transposition.

It's honestly one of the most missable secrets because of the fact that it occurs at the very very end of the world, immediately before you fight Gael. If instead of marching forward, you turn right you stumble upon a ruined cathedral. If you walk to the rear of it, you engage in one of the most interesting and emotionally charged npc invader style battles that exists in the souls franchise.

      Wow, that's a great find! Maybe Aldrich simply misinterpreted his visions, maybe that Age took place.
      But wait: "When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea."
      Maybe the Age of the Deep Sea was never about water and instead about ash? About a world that just _looked_ like it belonged to the bottom of the ocean and not the dry land?

    I'm pretty sure the egg is the one who the dragon come from ,it's say that midir was raised from the egg to protect the realm of god , and since he is an archdragon , to do is duty for ever . there is the point , the egg of an immortal dragon who is unaffected by time must have some kind of power , in dark souls the part of monster still has a bit of power when passed down ,(choped off ect) . Meaning that the immortality may have imbued the egg shell. Maybe filianor use the egg as a catalyst to gave herself and to the city , maybe the whole world immortality , like "stopping the time" who would explain why everything reapet itself ( chosen undead, powerfull sousl who reappear= look dks 2 ng+ ) , the time can't end , so it reapet itself , BUT since life and disparity ( not sure of the word tho) came from flame , it just can't reapet endlessly , each time the flame lose some power to the point it's almost impossible to re-kindle it ( that's dks3) . SO with all that we may conclued that touching fillianor's egg and destroying it ( scumbag we are) we "break" the spell that was holding world fragment together , and the world collapse without is last support.
    That's my theory , never read it anywere ( if someone ever tell it befoer sorry to him/her/it/appach hélicopter , and sorry to you im pretty bad in english )

    Vaati! Don't know if you'll see this, but I got an idea of what the new painting might be! I think she's depicting a new Age of Ancients. It's to be a "cold, dark, and very gentle place", and that describes the Age of Ancients to a tee. Furthermore, she would name the painting "Ash" if you tell her you have no name...and what color is ash? Grey (crags)! Going farther down the rabbit hole, the Painted World of Ariandel is on fire...and the new painting is IN that world! So as the old painting is consumed, the new one gets its own little piece of flame..."But then there was Fire, and with Fire came disparity". And of course, if the painting is made using the Blood of the Dark Soul..."Then from the dark, They came. And found the souls of Lords within the Flame". AAHHHHH

I doubt many others had that same feeling, but i did.

    who else noticed that the entire journey through the DLC parallels your journey through lothric? you start in lothric castle find some dilapidated houses like the ones in the undead settlement, followed immediately by a swampy forested area, like the crucifixion woods. After being carried away you end up in a large building filled with clerics much like the Cathedral of the Deep, discover another swamp, some catacombs, and an old chapel, like Anor London. It seems to skip straight to the Kiln of the First Flame in the form of Gael's boss arena. Overall it isn't very important to the lore but just something I noticed in my first playthrough.

      David Stubbs oh yeah good catch man. As mentioned in the video there were also the statues from the boreal valley. I agree. The Midir fight was cool, but as far as we know at the moment his only connection to anything is the DLC itself. I would have preferred to fight a primordial serpent.
      There's something extremely badass about the thought of fighting a being which has had [arguably] the most impact on the world, and who has steered an unknown number of pawns towards the end goal of kickstarting the age of man.
      It literally could have been the Midir fight with the same mechanics with a different boss design and it would have been leagues better.

    Angel's Egg is a masterpiece but somehow even more esoteric than the entirety of Dark Souls:
    Let me start by saying Angel's Egg is to parts of Dark Souls 3 as Berserk was to parts of Dark Souls 1. There are entire cut scenes that are almost exact replica of scenes from the movie. One in particular is the male character stabbing the girl (which is almost the Anri wedlock scene verbatim.) The way the film symbolizes how people seek faith is also really similar to the way people seek the age of fire.
    One interpenetration is the egg in the film symbolizes the blank slate we are all born into as children or at the very least innocence. The characters in the film are spiritually unripe as are the undead in relation to humanity. And many parallels can be drawn to the ambiguity of the male in the film and our role as the ashen one. Both are almost christ-like figures, both seeking to change something inherent to human identity. Whether we choose to have faith in protecting the egg and linking the flame or destroy the the egg and let the flame fade is up to the characters in the narrative.

    • @Deep_Freeze_DF

      there is a mention of faith in general, not Christianity exclusively. It's taking a pretty big logically leap to say Dark Souls is an allegory for Christ. In fact there's more evidence to the fact Miyazaki is pointing out the flaws in faith, as the Gods curse humans and trick them into preserving their power. If that's a reference to Christianity or any other religion then i'd wager Miyazaki is not too fond of them

Kinda like Mass Effect, it'll have the same dev team, but few to none of the same people that made the series great. It'll be nice to see them try something new. Bloodborne was a great step in the right direction, but I hope their next work is kind of like Guerrila Games and moving from Killzone to Horizon(which I thought was amazing for a game with a smaller team and budget than the buggy mess that is ME: Andromeda).

    I don't think we travel in time to get to the Gael's boss arena. Rather I think Fillianore is just like Gwynevere in that waking her up breaks the illusion, which in this case is the illusion that the world is still in one piece. The dark sign we see in the sky of Lothric is signifying how this illusion is slowly breaking, and bringing all the Lords to their thrones ends most of the illusion, as it is no longer needed. The last fragments of Fillianore's illusion still remain until we arrive and wake her from her slumber, only for her to realise that she was already dead, just like the egg she was holding. The egg crumbling symbolises how time has truly passed quite a lot, and how everything in reality is already in ruins.
    Or at least that's how I see it.

    I think that tower you can't reach is a "throne room" of sorts, where the Pygmy leaders reside. The leaders who are being eaten by Gael in the end. You can see their "thrones" in ruins in the ash wastes in a circle near where you find Gael. A circle that might just fit comfortably in a tower like the one in the ringed city. The piles of ash engulfing the world now make that area accessible. Not to mention the location of these thrones matches in height more or less to where the tower's base is in relation to the cathedral's upper tower (where filianore resides)

      Themurloc so I believe each great structure is a one of those things that's why they were doomed there because they were too great of a challenge until one day the smallest of the 7 yhorm defeated them and brought them to their thrones which is the ring city to keep the dark soul burning and why yhorm gave the onion knight a way to defeat him because he knew too that one day history would repeat and he would be too great of an enemy so instead of turning into stone he decided to loose but fuck idk

    One thing that Vaati missed is that the symbol of the Sable Church is plastered everywhere in the ringed city - on top of buildings like the lonely tower (at 9:02), carried by statues etc. You can see the identical symbol on the Sword of Avowal, that is used in the ritual where the Lord of Hollows marries Anri.

    • @Yangkai1020
      @Yangkai1020 7 років тому +2

      I noticed that during my playthrough too. Was actually hoping Vaati would have mentioned somehow. Could it mean the Sable Church originated from ringed city, created by pygmy, to rush the world into the dark age, as Yuria's quest line?

    • @fatluigiproductions
      @fatluigiproductions 7 років тому +2

      It would make sense, since the Sable Church is most probably an offshoot of the Darkwraiths, who were also associated with the Pygmies and the Dark Soul and seemingly have the same mission as the Church.

      I imagine TRC IS Londor, with the Furtive Pygmy being the one who founded the whole religion in a protest against the Gods encapturing him and the Dark Soul with this city. There are also people who believe that guy you meet right before the first Ringed City bonfire is the real Furtive Pygmy and it makes sense - he looks like the Pygmy Lords but got no Crown and shows a detest for the Gods!

    • @fatluigiproductions
      @fatluigiproductions 7 років тому +1

      I always assumed that Lothric was built on top of old Londor, given that Farron Keep is what was once the Darkroot Garden / Oolacile etc. Also isn't it mentioned somewhere that the Ringed City was given to the Pygmies as a gift from the gods (eg. Gwyn)? Maybe I'm mistaken though.

He is wandering around behind Filianore's room with his twin blades and he is the only enemy we can encounter before or after Gael. I'm pretty sure From Software did not wonder "hey, we have a spare ringed knight, where should we put it ?". He is basically the only survivor of the end of the world, but since we encounter and very probably killed him before entering the Church of the Spears, how could he still be there ?

    There is a variation of the Dragonslayer Armor set in the swamp of the Ringed City. From the Ringed City Streets bonfire if you go straight across the swamp and hug the wall going right you will eventually come to an area where you fight a reanimated Dragonslayer Armor. The description of the set explicitly mentions our character defeating it in Lothric and says the armor has been possessed by the memory of the hunt.

    I want to hit you guys with a theory I've been working on for a while now. Before I get into it, please note that my TV bit the dust before I could finish Ringed City so that may have some answers here that I'm not aware of.
    I want to talk about the Curse of the Undead, and Humanity. The crux of this theory is a quote from Aldia:
    "Once, the Lord of Light banished Dark, and all that stemmed from humanity.
    And men assumed a fleeting form."
    Now, many, it seems, have taken this quote to mean that when Gwyn Linked the Fire, he caused/created the Undead Curse, either inadvertently or intentionally. Even VaatiVidya, everyone's primary source for Souls games lore, went in this direction. But when you think about it, it doesn't really make sense. Undead are not fleeting. They endure. They die over and over and yet still remain. Humans, on the other hand, are fleeting. Humans can die and stay dead. We know this from many sources, but most notably from Anastacia, the Firelink Firekeeper from DS1, who wants you to Link the Fire so she may die as a human. Is this not more a fleeting form than Undead?
    I posit that there are 3 forms to mankind: Human (when with fire/light), Undead (with the Dark Soul) and Hollow (with neither). When the Furtive Pygmy found the Dark soul and split it among others, he created Humanity. But in the Age of Fire, the Darkness was cast aside by the strong First Flame, causing mankind to be Human. As the fire began to fade, the dark in man grew stronger in comparison and the Undead "Curse" began. Gwyn, fearing the Dark Lord and all that as we know, set out to Link the Fire. We're never told explicitly what that meant, but I agree with Vaati in that not only did he provide fuel for the First Flame, but he also Linked it to mankind. I go further to say that this Linking temporarily banished the dark from man; a bright enough light casts fewer shadows. This cause mankind to once again assume the fleeting Human form. This is also the origin of the Darksign, but I'll get into that in a moment.
    We are told from multiple sources that when the Fire begins to fade in each kingdom and age, that's when the Undead Curse emerges. Under my theory this makes sense; the Fire is not strong enough to keep back all the Dark. But because of Gwyn, the Undead now appear with the mark of the Darksign upon them; a brand on their undead forms that attempts to bind them to the light and the fire.
    I think it's fairly clear that the Darksign is connected to the Linking, Undead, and Bonfires, all from visual clues. The Dark Sign is often represented by a swirling pattern, especially apparent in Dark Souls 2 where it's a huge spiral on your back. This motif appears elsewhere; In the Kiln of the first Flame in DS1, the main structure has a spiral pattern in its architecture. Furthermore, in the Boss Arena where you fight Gwyn, the sands/ashe on the ground are arranged as a swirl around the fire there. Of course, even the swords planted in every bonfire have a twisted, swirled blade. Hell, if you look at the fires in the basement of Majula's mansion, there's a vague spiral to them. In DS3, the previous worlds churn around Lothric, churning often havinf a spinning or spiral to it.
    You might now be asking about the Humanity item in DS 1 and how that lets you become Human. How can Humanity, a shard of the Dark Soul, make us not Undead anymore in this theory? Well, think of what you do: While Undead, you can have any number of "Liquid Humanity." But to become Human, you offer one up to a Bonfire. You let the Bonfire burn away your Dark Soul Humanity, and become Human. Still makes sense. And we know from the Evangelists in DS3 that the Curse can be burned away.
    TL;DR; Linking the Fire did not cause the Undead Curse. Instead, mankind is naturally Undead with the Dark Soul, and Gwyn Linked the Fire to mankind to force us into "fleeting" Human forms.

    • @MrSilverKatana
      @MrSilverKatana 7 років тому +5

      that part about humanity doesn't make sense really because then you would be in human form when you don't have any soft or hard humanity on you. plus you can still have humanity on you when in human form

    For the sake of argument, I think the Finger being referred to is Kirk. Kirk was a Darkwraith who tricked Kaathe out of a Red Eye Orb back in Dark Souls 1, which means he had been allied with the forces of the Abyss long enough to gain Kaathe's trust. I believe the line, "...he alone was embraced by the Abyss" is referencing Kirk's allegiance to the Darkwraiths. For this to work, though, I focus more on the Abyss part of the sermon, less on the rebirth. I could be completely wrong here, and would love to hear what you think. After all, I don't do this kind of thing for a profession.

    It's very interesting to me that Painting Guardians are summoned during the Halflight fight, this paints a connection between Fillanore, Yorshka and Priscilla. One could almost imagine that both Priscilla and Yorshka were 'prototypes' for whatever role Fillanore fulfills.
    And given the cyclic nature of souls would it not be oh-so fitting to learn that Gwyn attempted to harness the power of dragons in much the same way Aldia/Vendrick and Oceiros would in later years? Could Gwyndolin's frailty and pale figure - mirroring Prince Lothric - be a result of said experiments? Was Fillanore the first Firekeeper? Keep in mind that Firekeepers are said to be draws of humanity which contain the Dark within themselves - much as the Ringed City itself does.
    Much to consider.

      Accelerator He simply dreamt of Priscilla and, since you learm miracles through stories/experiences, learned the miracle. Though Priscilla may be dead because the painted world of Ariamus probobly has rotted away, though time is convoluted so it may not have.

      Actualy Aldrich ate the painted world of ariamis, ate Gwendolin alive, and ate the dead body of Gravelord nito, the upper part of nito belong to Gwendolin as we can see, part of the lower body is the dead body of nito dont forget the lance weapon Aldrich is using it is the Maind weapon of nito as lance and the Life hunt Miracle Spell is the Hability of Hunt life from prisicilla so yea, Aldrich deservet to die for kill Gwendoln and Priscilla

    Point no. 10: It's interesting to note that the "Ash Serpent" in the Dreg Heap you point out
    is quite close to the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +3. Maybe those serpents weren't
    the Primoridal Serpents we are familiar with. Maybe they started to change when they
    began to consume Humanity.....

    What a journey, I just completed my binge of your entire channel, from the earliest to this, that I started over a week ago, suffice to say it was a great one that inspired me to pick up the other two Dark Souls game that I didn't have.

    I hope in an upcoming patch they add in one of those Super Mario 64 cannons that you can enter into and launch yourself to the mysterious promo structure in the distance through a glass window, where then the interior will have changed drastically since its noclip version shown here and you discover its REAL secret - a place called Miyazaki's Tower, where you must brave several floors of challenges, Game of Death-style before reaching the top and facing off against the actual, _actual_ final boss of the series, why none other than Hidetaka Miyazaki himself. He'll have infinite poise, infinite stamina and will wield Yorshka's Spear as his choice weapon, only this version of the weapon is actually good and can kill you. You can use his soul to transpose to either the Pendant or Bloodborne in its entirety to play, a good bonus for PC and Xbone players who were left in the cold by its PS4 exclusivity. Sadly you still won't be able to obtain a good version of the Yorshka's Spear. Dem's the breaks.

      Na, man. Hidetaka Miyazaki is the NPC vendor of the tower. The REAL final boss is Giantdad, who upon reaching his second phase summons Havelmom and Stonechild to gank you. And worse is that they have active, infinite, DkS1 style poise while you don't.

    the videos you produce enrich my souls game so much. i hated the fight against abys watchers, but after hearing your theory in a different vod, i feel so damn sad and sombre in defeating them. please keep doing what you do, every vod is a damn amazing treat.

    Did you find the Lothric War Banner / & projected heal spell? I'm surprised you didn't mention that area as a secret. It's not a secret wall - but it is VERY easy to miss that 1 drop off point. I bet 95% of players missed that area.

      The Ashen Hollow has a video on the entire story of the trilogy, if you haven't seen it already.
