      Thanks Jason! That was the main reason for starting the channel, and the more content I create, the more chances people will have to see the boat in action as well. Come October I also plan on doing an end of 1st season review as well. Stay tuned!

    Great informative video Dan. I picked up my SSV 16 side console about 1 1/2 years ago. I got the 40HP Merc and run about 30 wot as well. I put tempress seats on, a Hummingbird Helix 5 and a Bimini top. I love the boat and mine was out the door for $17,000 in change. Good luck to you!

      The Top speeds seem low? I would expect mid 30’s with the 60hp? Low 30’s on the 40hp. It’s not a big difference but I’m looking for a light weight 16-18’ V hull to run rivers in so every mph helps. Nice boat! Your set up is cool and the floors Do look great! Are the “drop in floors” from Lund?

    what is your fuel economy at cruise

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  2 роки тому

      I do not have a precise number for you, but over the 2 hour active break-in period I did not consume the entire 6 gallons of a single fuel tank's capacity. During break in however, there were periods where I was running both higher and lower engine speeds, so I'm going to guess somewhere in the vicinity of 3 ish gallons per hour. I was actually impressed with its fuel efficiency, I hope this helps. Perhaps an actual efficiency test will be a future video!

    Nice boat! Best vid on the ssv 18 yet. Would you be able to measure the distance between both rows for standing room? A vid idea could be simply filming taking various measurements, I can’t find this info anywhere! Thanks! Subscribed

    Thanks so much for the review. Hard to find good videos on this model. I have a Honda 15hp, think itll be enough to get this on plane with one person? How much was the cost for just the boat?

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  Місяць тому +1

      @rippinrogers I believe 18 footer and trailer with the casting deck and floors was in the neighborhood of 8500 w/o motor,, but that was at the end of 2021 so it's likely more now. I do not recommend anything less than the 60hp on the 18ft model, I think if you're set on that motor the SSV14 would be better suited.

    • @rippinrogers
      @rippinrogers Місяць тому

      @@dansmidwestangling thanks for the feedback. Looks like 60hp is the max rating on the sticker of the SSV18, if I look at the 14ft model it says the max is 25hp. My 15hp would still be a bit low using your assessment. I’d bet the lowest a dealer would sell with the SSV18 would be a 40hp tiller? That’s my guess.
      I want to have a pull start motor and no electronics in the boat. So I’ll have to see what I can come up with for a bigger outboard that’s still mainly pull start (not E start and pull start emergency) for the SSV18.
      Do you know if the boat needs a long shaft outboard or standard height outboard?

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  Місяць тому

      @rippinrogers I believe it'll be a long shift, but I'll measure mine this evening and get back to you. As far as ordering goes, a dealers gonna put on whatever you pay them to. You might be able to locate an older 2 stroke that's got a little more oomph and still pull start like you want.

      I'm absolutely sure It would with a 3 blade and the standard lower unit or if I messed with the mounting, but after running it an entire season I'm honestly fine where it is. I've been cruising on average about 25-27 mph, the ride is great and the fuel consumption is phenomenal. If you ever want to trade up I'd absolutely recommend it! The only boat I'd trade mine up for would be the 20ft Alaskan.

    Great review, agree not many walk thru done on basic tillers. 18' is perfect for two or three in a pinch but for one it's just right to solo launch. Agree the CT is a dog on top end but gets in plane fast. You could take motor up one hole will make a diff, but what rpm is it at 30mph. Add a Bimini top and battery kill switch and it's perfect.

    • @dansmidwestangling

      Unfortunately the boat doesn't have a tach so until I get vessel view I don't know WOT rpm. After running it all summer I'm perfectly fine with it as it sits, I like having the torque and hole shot. It's been an awesome boat to me so far, launching/'trailering is a breeze and thus far I haven't been in a fishing situation yet where the boat wasn't more than adequate. Thanks for Watching!

    $20,000 😂 chump change right? My 14ft lund was in great shape and I only paid $1500 with a Suzuki 16 motor. The Tacoma I use to pull that boat was 40k out the door new. $20,000 for that little boat, half my truck? Hell no lol

    • @dansmidwestangling
      @dansmidwestangling  Рік тому +1

      Yeah you're right, kind of. There's thousands of 40 year old boats out there ready to go for $1500. I had them my whole life, and one day I decided I wanted a nice, new boat so I worked hard and got one within my budget. On the flipside, I just got a new to me daily driver silverado thats rusted to F but goes down the road just fine, and I paid 2k for it. That's 1/20 of what you paid for your Tacoma and it does the same thing. In fact, it can actually do more because it has the 5.3 LS engine and a larger bed for 5% of the cost. I personally would never spend that much money on a truck that's just gonna rot in the salt, and think it's just as silly as you think me spending 20k on this boat is. Do you see how silly that argument is now? Are either of us right? NO! It's our money and we should spend it as we see fit and respect others choices to do so. The truth is this video isn't meant for someone like you, this video is meant to help someone who's interested in ordering one to get a better look at what they're getting, and help them make their decision or plan how they can set theirs up. Best of luck to you.

    • @gablamo013
      @gablamo013 Рік тому

      @@dansmidwestangling a boat has much less purpose than a truck. And that Silverado definitely can’t do as much as a Tacoma can. A new Chevy, maybe so, because it has all the amenities + more power. That old clunker Chevy, not even a small chance. I’m just saying, $20,000 for that set up is WAY too much. Even if I got a brand new Honda 20 for my boat, which is the same exact build as yours just 3 feet shorter, I’m only into it $3500 more. Which brings us to a grand total of $5,000. And a near identical setup to yours. My Tacoma came with the off-road package, rear locker, heated seats, premium Nav, premium sound, premium safety package, tow package, and an 8 year bumper to bumper. That Chevy did not. Do you see the comparisons now?
