I would have also considered the 18-55mm, since it has ois. The 16-50 doesn't, and if you have a camera without ibis, it makes more sense. If you wanted wide angle, you could consider the 10-24mm.

Thanks for the review, I have shot with the 16-55 & 16-80 and had similar feelings but was wondering how the 16-50 compared. That about answers that!
