Just some numbers on my 2004 V6 Prado Banger for the last 4.5 yrs. 42000 km at 15.35l/100 with an average 1173 km a tank. Best result was 10.8 highway and worst was 19.5 off road sand or bush. A fair bit of towing a 21’ boat. 3/4 was PULP98. Nearly $12k of fuel at $1.67 ave. The worst thing about the V6 is its fuel usage but I paid $10k for the “unbreakable” vehicle so I’m winning on capital savings. Plus it’s only running a bit over 9000k a year. False floor double bed in the back makes a great go anywhere camper. Thanks for the video.
Averaging 16L/100km around town in my 2004 V6 Grande (4 speed, bullbar, winch, lights, dual battery, 3" lift, 265/70 AT tyres, rear storage system) - so still 1100km range, even better on the highway. Goes up a lot when towing a decent weight.
Had a 2003 Grande V6 that I used for work travel, 85-90% highway driving around 110 km/h hours. Steel bullbar, 2 inch lift, all terrain tyres (stock size) on it. Was averaging between 13.3-13.8 depending on the weather/idling time/short trips etc.
Average 12.2 liters in my 2007 GXL, bog stock other than BF-Goodrich K02 all-terrains on a highway run from Geelong to Gisbourne. As you said, some runs you get better, some you get worse.
That’s pretty well bang on for some highway driving and bit of city. Around town and I mean nothing more than 18k round trip to work, kids, school, sports etc the 120 was 15 to 16 with bullbar, AT’s, fridge etc in back, the 150 was 14 to 15 no mods except crappy KO2’s but raining the same as factory profile. On the freeway loaded the 120 was around 11.4 to 11.5, the 150 11.2/11.4. Just as a comparison my Y62 is around 18 to 20 for exact same driving, same place of work etc, on the freeway though is where they shine, from Sydney to Brisbane the exact same run we did in the prado’s and now in the patrol, 11.6 to 11.8, brilliant economy for such a huge 4wd. The patrol is stock standard with factory tyres but I do have an exhaust but that’s the only mod, same loaded up in the cargo area even the same old waeco fridge from over 20 years ago 👍👍
I’m in the US and I have a 2012 rear wheel drive 4Runner with the 4.0 v6 and with the summer mix fuel I could get almost 500 miles until the “range” gauge would go to zero. That’s usually when I refuel as I know there is still about 3-4 gallons left in the tank. I also have a 2005 Lexus GX470 that typically only gets about 360 miles on the same range. Both are on stock setups but at some point I plan to go to a bit more off road capable setup in the GX470. No need for that in a 2WD 4Runner 😂.
At 100kmh mine V6 Prado took around 9.5 liters open road-highway. At 150kmh it was around 15.5l. Urban driving short trips was around 13.5. All stock model 2005.
Always wanted the dual VVTI V6 150 series Prado premium petrol. Couldn't afford it so settled with a Kluger of the similar year which gives me less than 11 litres per hundred ks on regular unleaded on mostly high way. Sure who wouldn't like extra 4wd capabilities, but there's always a trade off between capabilities of a vehicle and its cost of ownership.
Sounds about right- best I get with 2 inch lift AT tyres (100kg constant load) best on 90-110km hiway only travel is 12.6l/100km - city short trip summer travel 18-19l/100km ; towing 1.5 camping trailer outback open road travel -18-21l/100k… towing same Fraser Island only 27l/100k including north of Nagala rock. Figures all base on 91RON no 95 nor E10 However my new MY22 diesel gives me less anxiety on fuel consumption
I 've had two v6 commodores back in the day. Both were around 11.5/12ltrs per 100km. I never really left town in them though. No difference between wagon and sedan. It was also around 70c/ltr lol!
Best way to test fuel mileage is to fill both tanks and hit the road!!. The first measurement is good for working out fuel consumption but won't tell you how far you can go.
I have a 120 series 2004 V6 that is converted to also run on LPG. I get a horrible 25L/100km(mostly short commute though rural towns and roads) on petrol and 16L/100km on propane. Definitely something wrong with the fuel system on mine because it's way to high and from my past experience with LPG cars(common where I'm from) you should get 1-2 litters higher consumption on LPG than what you get on petrol.
No diesel is steady it fluctuates with the market price unleaded does a competition cycle and then it resets So on average, it’s about the same price sometimes you’ll find it cheaper. Sometimes you’ll find it deer sometimes a lot cheaper sometimes a lot deer but generally a very similar price. If you shop around correctly, fuels fuel cost about the same same. Some people like to use examples when fuel has just gone up I can find unleaded for 30 or $.40 a litter more than Diesel some other people like to use the example when it’s down at the bottom end of the competition cycle $.10 a liter cheaper than diesel perhaps But once again it’s not like that all the time it averages out about the same
Since the day I bought my 2005 v6 prado all I get is 5klm per litre, or 20 litres per 100 a that’s with no second or third row seats in the car! an empty! And my car is maintained, what the hell is wrong with it??
They certainly do vary. You’re probably looking at the average over the whole tank with all the variations included. If you were to do just one or the other type of driving for the whole tank, you would see the variation. All vehicles and engines are very similar although this one can have a much larger variation because I guarantee you I could drive it in a way that would get me 10 L per hundred kilo Met and I could take it out into the high country and get minimum 20 L for 100 kg Met. It would average out at about 15 letters per hundred K for most people like I said in the video this one was a fairly economical run, which is why it’s lower than that plenty of room to get much worse
Great vids and love that you now have a V6! I get 1200km range in a loaded v6 150 averaging 105km per hour.

Mine was 13.6 avg . 2008 gxl V6 . Had a 40mm lift and a light bull bar .

The best I ever got was 12.5 lts per hundred. Slight tail wind tailem bend to Melbourne. Best car I've ever had, but it just used to much fuel.

On my 1gr hilux auto, swapping out the stock air box for a trd style one made a real difference

My 5.7 ls1 if I drove it properly was alright do 6ltr in 6 gear at 100 on the hwy .
Really nice one on marketplace for sale’ enquired about fuel economy 12/13 ltrs they said
Best i got was 7.8lt per 100ks...but when you step on it 12.5 to 15 was not impossible.
Light throttle makes a big difference, under 100ks is the go.
You’re dreaming if you think you got 7.8L per 100. Absolutely no chance
150 V6 Mixed moderate driving. 15.2 averaging.
I had a Holden hk Ute 186 it used to get 30 miles per galon country driving
Best way to test fuel mileage is to fill both tanks and hit the road!!. The first measurement is good for working out fuel consumption but won't tell you how far you can go.
Thanks for telling whoever you’re telling how to do what we did in the video that’s what we did thanks
Show us how to sort out the tanks, gauge and fuel unit 🙏
You put it on gas and add a valve saver, then you don't have to worry about the petrol gauge. 😁

That's way too high for V6. On 95 octane and open road stock model you should even go as low as 9 liters on a flat road at 100kmh maybe even less.
750km if your towing,@ 24/lkm.
As i experienced.
14L per 100 is very good in the V6.
Maybe...but where I live 1 liter of petrol is almost 2 Euro so to drive Prado V6 I should own gas station.😂
Hi Anthony, can you say what engine oil viscocity you use? 5w 30 or something else, thanks.
The first oil change has that correct? It’s in a video check them out. There’s a playlist check it out.
Always used 10w 30 in my 3 V6 prado’s. Never had a single issue, off road, towing, etc. never used any either between 10k services
Makes me feel better getting 15 per 100 in my petrol 200 series
I was thinking the same thing about my LX470.
average 16.8 over 140k of stats. 265/70 all terrains, bullbar, winch, roof rack.
How many smiles did you get over that 874ks?
The prado 3.4 needed a 6 speed gear box they would have got better fuel economy if they 6 speed box
Crikey, your premium unleaded is 95 ? Jeeeez. That’s our standard unleaded over here in the UK - are premium is 98 / 99 RON. Premium Diesel is 98.
Is diesel about 20c more expensive in aus?
No diesel is steady it fluctuates with the market price unleaded does a competition cycle and then it resets

Had a Holden HQ 6cyl auto 11.75ltr per 100km or 20mpg get less easily ,,best was 22mpg
Anthony, have you cleaned the throttle body
Not yet

How many klms ?? Could be injectors, common issue on the fj forums with same engine
My 2008 petrol v8 landcruiser uses less fuel. 14L/100km
Fricking hell , 14 per hundred empty, might need to remorgage the house loaded and towing.
Correct
1200klms
In 265,000 Km mine has never varied from 15L/100 city or country or empty or loaded.

168/L ?? Where did you fill up .. 1997 ?
95RON too
Petrol Spy App…it’s bloody awesome, been using it for donkeys years ;)
Dash very similar to a Mitsubishi 380.
Cheap fuel price
