I enjoyed the tour of where your wife grew up. Also seeing the Volga River really highlights how large it is. This is something that is hard to imagine when reading textbooks.
Thank you for the video, my wife is from Engels and we live in Italy. Many Italian people think here is much better than Russia, but I can say there are positive and negative aspects in both the places. It’s almost 10 years I’m visiting Engels twice a year and I can confirm the city improved, the opposite of Italy. Last thing: summer is beautiful there but winter too; snow and blue sky most of the time, and you can enjoy the Russian lifestyle in winter. Late autumn like this video not the best season. Thank you and greetings from Italy
I would imagine you have an idea of how little people from the United States have seen of Russia. It really is a pleasure to see the Volga and the childhood community of your wife. My son is schooled at home; he was recently reading about life in the time of the USSR and now in modern Russia. So nice to be able to show him a few of your videos. Thank you 😊
Excellent video! I liked how you told the origin of the towns name (Engels), how you showed the Yuri Gagarin landmarks, and how you interviewed residents of the city. Also found interesting in how you explained what the above ground pipes were for.
This city is situated in a very beautiful place and its surroundings are really amazing. The huge Volga River is fantastic. In summer the atmosphere must be rather different and this place is worth visiting. You have a nice family. Thank you for this wonderful video and my best wishes for a Merry Christmas (you celebrate it in January) and a Happy New Year.
My friend lives in Engels. I would like to visit him drink vodka looking at the Volga River and sing "kakije prekrasnyje v Rosiji vechera". Spasibo za video!
Your country is so beautiful to watch and go around. The calmness and simplicity of the towns are really enjoyable. During the Soviet era, this greatest empire had always been stood as a patron and supporter of my country. Love from INDIA. ♥
Thank you for your videos. Your wife and children are beautiful. It’s a shame our Governments don’t get along. Hope you and your families Stay Safe. take care
in the city i live in they have a farmers market , they set up in a big parking lot every saturday . its all local produce , from dog treats , food and even craft beer
Great video Zangieff! Probably your best so far. I enjoyed seeing the landing place of both Yuri and his capsule. Many people have forgotten how dangerous this was and how he risked his life to accomplish this. Although Engels is not a town I would choose to visit your commentary made it intresting. Thanks for the video.
I am happy that there are improvements being made. Of course, how rapid they come will be determined by how much profit Russia can make from the pipeline. Back when I was growing up we only saw empty counters and lines of Russian's waiting for small portions of bread. So satisfying to see the markets have plenty to sell! This was a pleasurable adventure and very informative.
Omg!!! Saratov!! My study and life place gor 17!!years ... Just need to leave this place to understand how its abandoned!!!))) But Volga river will be always in my heart... Even if now im living between Alps 😍
Very interesting video- it’s always interesting to go back and see where you grew up years later - your wife has excellent English! I thought it looked like a pleasant place with lots of open space, that seems to be a feature of Russian towns. Not many people around , looked very quiet!
You.may be surprised in New York city my friends grew up there and played only on a few steps in front of the apartment. The Soviet Union now Russia again has so much space and open large heavy construction and its fabulous.
I will love to visit Russia during the winter, I love snow and cold weather, I also love tropical weather but snow is beautiful. Russia is my dream place to visit because it’s where my family is from.
This video is awesome. I lived in Russia for a year. Drove to Engels from Moscow and stayed at my girlfriends families dacha. Some of your video made me feel like I was back there. ❤
LOVED this video! It is amazing the cosmonaut/astronauts courage in those days, everything was new, not garaunteed your safety at all, it would take guts to eject from a capsule (I know a LOT of heat is generated when tentering Earth's atmosphere and you can easily burn up) and then have to parachute! I appreciate your honest assessment of the playgrounds for the kids and the interviews from the locals on their thoughts! (I am sure there are many videos say like where I am right now in southern California that would show the glamorous lifestyle of Hollywood, but few about the areas that can be dangerous to live in and how those children live in those neighberhood here) The Volga river is mighty! Looks like a mini ocean! I loved the shops and wonder myself if it is cheaper to buy in local market or the big stores there? I wonder too if the local farmers market may have more fresh food? I also think I am understanding the pipe situation more, if there is a issue during winter it must be harder with the ground frozen if it was underground
Very interesting video Zangieff. I'm guessing it probably makes you more appreciative of life in Moscow. You did a good job on the interviews, I always find those interesting. I like the format and length of the video too. Thanks!
Great video. Thank you very much. It's good to have a perspective of how other people live and play.its interesting that you and your wife speak English , being able to speak ather languages opens several doors to you. I started to learn the Russian alphabet and it's a bit challenging but I like it. Keep up the good work . If you can show us what is summer like, specially the beaches and how to have fun in the summer. Thank you again and paka-paka.
Very cool to look back at places you show as they are so much like where I grew up (Samara...like rural parts) - great memories. I mean as a kid, those playgrounds and such didn't seem sad at all. It was definitely not easy for our mom though for sure. Haven't been back in 20 years, so watching your videos as a trip down the memory lane.
I am presently reading a book called down the Volga, it's about a man who takes a boat trip down the Volga, starting at it's source, and ending in the Caspian Sea. I really enjoyed this video. The only place I have visited outside the United States is the country of Argentina. It's very interesting to see what provincial life is like in Russia. Again thanks for posting this, I thoroughly enjoyed it
I’m going to give u a shot based on the post I read about this video. I will let you know how it goes. After 3 minutes. I’m liking it And I love it. So I subscribed
What can I say, great people great country. Everything takes time for improvement. Specifically in 90s where we know what happened in Russia. At least I know. But still,it's been only 22 years and without help from outside or huge loans. I strongly believe that Russia will grow way better from now on. Stay strong 💪 guys.
In my opinion this one had a good mix of personal stories and experiences along with the city's historical origins. So far I think this is one of your best videos yet. My suggestion for next time is add some B-Roll with music between scenes and that will give it even more of a polished documentary feel. It is also a good way to show some more of the city.
Thank you for appreciation, I love the way you said it, because indeed this video was one of the hardest for me to make, comparing to some reaction videos or some simple vlogs. So, yes, thanks:) I was thinking about adding the music, probably next time, yes, but I always have a feeling I’ll choose something not good or not much applicable. The music genre, mood. So I try to make a video look and sound consistent only by editing the original videos. But I agree with you
I agree on what Rocky said here before me. And I do like Zangieff’s text in the description box here. Good spirit and attitude 🙂. And more personal stuff in a direct answer via Instagram. But not before Zangieff‘s livestream tonight 🙂.
@@Zangieff Looking at this again, I think the title could be reworked to help with visibility for the algorithm. I don't like this trend, but for better or worse click baitish type titles get more traffic. It also seems like hot words like "Russia" or "Soviet" get more traction too. I do think there is a way to get creative with titles that play into the algorithm but at the same time are not totally cringe. Maybe something like: "World's First Astronaut Landed in this Soviet Provencal City | Engels - Russia in 4K" I personally think something like that is still honest and keeps your integrity but is a bit more flashy for clicks.
@@RockyPondProductions I think that I should much change the name now because it perfectly shows what the video is about. I'm not in fond of clickbaiting names that represent 10% of the video and you just have to watch 90% of extra sonething, that you were not thinking about when clicking on the video. Though, using this "astronaut" context can be interesting, that's why I already put the reference in the thumbnail. My idea is to maybe change a thumbnail, make it more attractive. From simply adding this "first ever astronaut" reference to the current image, or make a different one. Which would both have "Engels" as text and some other catchy detail, that I wouldn't use in the name, but could play with it at the thumbnail level. Question to you, if you are ok to rewatch the video a bit, maybe some of the moments from the video can be used as a background for the thumbnail? Maybe some pauses with me as a part of the image, so that to show that the video is a vlog type. Because now it looks like ... you never know what. It could easily be just a documentary with no host present in the video, but all the information provided through the voice over storytelling.
And so I just changed the thumbnail, what I did: (1) background picture is the same, but a bit brighter (2) changed font to a bit bolder one (3) made a more evident shadow, black font behind the white font (4) changed the text from "I landed here" to "first ever astronaut landed here" (5) added yellow font to outline the "ever" word and to make the picture overall more attractive
Great video Zangieff!,very authentic.Hope to travel to Russia again in 2022 would like to tour on a motorcycle i'm in the process of getting my license.Merry Christmas from Belgium!
I dont support the war, but I don't blame you for it either. This was a very cool video, I really enjoyed taking this history lesson/day trip with you. I really love history, its nice to see others taking pride in Their history. I also enjoyed the video interviews too, don't be shy to do more interviews in the future. You have a beautiful family. God Bless!
I loved your video showing a province outside of a larger city/region! How amazing. One day, maybe I will be able to see this area in person. Thank you for taking time to share with us.
On the ''fallen astronauts'' plake left on the moon during apollo 15 was righten the names of all the astronauts and cosmonauts who died. Gagarin's name was one of them . Good to see that Engels, Russia, still has trolleybuses. Britain made huge mistake in giving up our electric buses for diesel in the 1950s and 60s. Hastings, where I am now, had electric trolleybuses until 1959.
The video is nice showing what it is in a provincial Volga town but i suggest improve the title to make it catchy and a catchy thumbnail. We can benchmark from other channels such as Bald and Bankrupt, Alina Mcleod etc on the titles and Thumbnail.
I just clicked on your videos a couple of videos ago and I am subscribing. You don’t need to apologize for anything. Different places and different populations have their good and bad points. I live in a very small town of700 we don’t have the same chances as a bigger one but we love the small towns as well take care from Canada
Actually the city (apartments etc) do not look in a very good shape but not very bad either. The green spaces between the apartment buildings are very nice (much more beautiful setting than the very modern district in Moscow you share in another video). What you say about the children is very true and touching. Capitalism makes it impossible for the children to have a proper childhood if the parents are not making enough money. The USSR put a lot of emphasis on chidrens' well-being. Thank you for the beautiful video, greetings from Turkey.
In almost every video I've seen of Russia I only see apartment complexes everywhere. Is their not a lot of single family, private home ownership in Russia? I grew up in small towns of less than 3,000 people. 200k people is a large city in my area.
Yes, most of the population in cities/towns live in apartments. Those who don’t are either quite wealthy and can afford a big new family home, or live in an old homes in the part of the town that wasn’t rebuilt with apartment blocks yet.
Really like your Videos, Hope to visit Russian someday. I tried in 80's but Soviets would denies days before we were suppose to go, so I never go to go to Soviet Union back then. Maybe Russia 2025!!
Depending on age perhaps, if born in the countryside there is then a preference to go back to a peaceful place when closer to the end of life. I spent perhaps two decades working and liviing in and around London and you could never pay me enough to live in a place like that. Between Moscow and Maly Tyrish I'd definitely prefer the latter.
около 2:55: Маркс и Энгельс были философами и да, они каким-то образом также были идеологами. Но я бы не сказал этого в отношении марксизма-ленинизма, потому что между ними обоими слишком много очевидных противоречий.
about 2:55: Marx and Engels were philosophers and yes they were somehow also ideologists. But I wouldn't say that in connection with Marxism-Leninism, because their are too many obvious contradictions between the both of them..

My Ukrainian friend says “cosmonaut” sounds better than “astronaut”, and I agree. That is a beautiful monument!
Engels reminds me a lot of where I live now, in Tbilisi Georgia.
This video is 2 years old, I hope renovations to the city have continued. 🙏🙏
crazy that its still called Engels. You are not ashamed of your mistakes and history... thats a good thing in my opinion.

I spent perhaps two decades working and liviing in and around London and you could never pay me enough to live in a place like that. Between Moscow and Maly Tyrish I'd definitely prefer the latter.
It's a bit sad watching this now since there was so much hope and things took a turn for the worse.
They didn't turn for the worst in Russia so far.
You say "fresh air" at 12:04 . Is the air better on the engels site? I live since Jan21 in Saratov and came from germany.
Love the shops! Do they have postage stamp stores and coln stores?
Russia is such a beautiful country. Unfortunately, I don't prefer cold weather...haha
Your girls are so beautiful 😘😘😘
What kind of camera and gimbal did you use here. It's very clear and stable 🥳
около 2:55: Маркс и Энгельс были философами и да, они каким-то образом также были идеологами. Но я бы не сказал этого в отношении марксизма-ленинизма, потому что между ними обоими слишком много очевидных противоречий.
Russia is a paradise. The kids are great the way it is. Dont be sad
about 2:55: Marx and Engels were philosophers and yes they were somehow also ideologists. But I wouldn't say that in connection with Marxism-Leninism, because their are too many obvious contradictions between the both of them..
:( I don't know how to do again
